The combo will satisfy the heartiest of appetites! It's actually plenty for two people. The fish pieces are pretty big. Actually everything is sized well which makes The Codmother a great value for fish and chips in San Francisco. It is of course no frills since it is out of a food truck but that's okay because greasy fish and chips is not meant to be sexy. Very good value and very good food. I look forward to another visit!

I've been meaning to try this spot and I am so glad I did!! I ordered the Codmother's combo which came with 2 fried fish, 4 pieces of shrimp and fries! The fish were huge, meaty and flaky with the perfect crisp! The fried shrimp surprised me with a light fluffy crisp and perfectly cooked meat! Possibly my favorite fried shrimp now! I love the tartar sauce and red sauce that came with the meal! And of course I had to use the vinegar on the fried fish as well! Yum! The fries were amazing! They give such a generous amount! I had to add a can of coke to go with all this delicious fried food! They have an outdoor patio area for seating with large umbrellas to shield from the sun. The staff are very friendly. They keep the area pretty clean. I highly highly recommend stopping by to try out their delicious fried fish and shrimp! Next time, I'm going to try their calamari, fish tacos and of course get the Codmother's Combo again!!

Started up by some real British folks, it has since changed ownership but the food remains very British, and very delicious! Note this is outdoor only seating with zero ambience, but that's why the prices are so good for San Francisco. $20 The Codmother combination: two golden, thick, crispy beer battered chunks of moist, flaky, whitefish...delicious! Almost as good as what I've in the UK...almost. Four big crispy deep fried shrimps are succulent and sensational. All of this beautiful deep fried British goodness rest on top of a generous mount of golden chips, that are really more like American style french fries.
We are talking Hole-in-the-Wall! It may be hard to find this hidden Food Truck that doesn't look like a food truck. The Combo Fish and Shrimp was delicious! The dip for the Calimari was tasty! The Fish was hot. My friend suggested you poke holes in it with your fork to cool it down. No frills but so good. Food doesn't come out super quick but do you want that? Workers are great and easy to talk to.

I had high expectations due to reviews , maybe because we didn't try the fish and chips I missed out on the hype but I was really looking for delicious clam chowder and this just wasn't it for me it tasted bland and like regular clam chowder with very few clams it tasted more like potatoes and cream. The fried calamari was also just ok nothing really to write home about. The service is hard to speak on because you order and pick it up yourself. They don't have cocktail sauce either which is weird. The ambiance is also hard to speak on because it's kinda like a taco truck vibe with seats outside overall I don't think I'll be back. Maybe if I want to try fish and chips I'll give it another shot.
I was in San Francisco for my mother's birthday. She wanted fish and chips. The ratings were high so we decided on this place. The staff was friendly. Menu prices reasonable. My lower review was the food. My mom ordered fish n chips for 17.99 Clam chowder..no bread for 13.99. The clam chowder was disgusting. It was so watered down like water...a few potatoes...I saw no any clams...and no clam flavor at all...see my video. I make clam chowderfir my mom a few tines a year becauseshe loves it...I know what it should taste like. I tried my moms to see if she was over reacting...nope..it literally tasted like drinking warm milk..no flavor...disgusting and for 13.00 for maybe 8 oz...they should feel ashamed of themselves... My mom however loved her fish and chips. Fresh fish...batter light and crispy...good tartar sauce. I ordered the calamari and fish tacos. I loved the fish on my tacos..did not like the sauce. The smokey flavor was too much. It took over. I would order them again with no sauce...they give you a good size piece of fish on the tacos...and the fish is good. The calamari was good. Again the same sauce to dip made it where I do not want to eat it again. I dont like the Chipotle sauce...the smoke flavor is too powerful. A simple white crema would be much better. That is what I eat locally and keep ordering the tacos again and again. If I am in SF again..I would choose another place to eat. They have outdoor eating area. Flies and birds flying around. Covered tables which was nice since it was hot.

As I was walking around San Fran I stumbled upon this lovely restaurant. The atmosphere was really nice and the service was nice too. There is a wait of 15 minutes, but it is worth it! The food was great! I had the Shrimp & Chips, the Combo and the Junior Fish & Chips. The Shrimps are so good! I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the Fishermen's Wharf!
After visiting the Fisherman's Wharf area, we stopped at The Codmother for some fish and chips, clam chowder, fish tacos, and loaded fries. Wow, the food was really good! When you enter, you order first and then find seating, which is limited, so avoid peak times if you want a place to sit comfortably. The food came out promptly and was freshly prepared. Note that there is no dedicated parking at the location, but nearby garages and street parking are available. Also, there is no bathroom on the property--you will need to walk to find one. Overall, the food was delicious, especially the clam chowder and fish tacos. I would highly recommend The Codmother if you're in the Fisherman's Wharf area and craving fresh, tasty seafood.

This food truck is about a 15 minute walk from Aquarium of the Bay. We got here at around 1:30 PM, ordered, and got our food within 15 minutes. It gets really hot, but thankfully there were quite a few benches with seating that had umbrellas to provide shading. Each bench also had malt vinegar (a must), ketchup, and salt. Fast casual eatery. What we got: - Fully loaded fries - super saucy! The menu says it has garlic, melted cheddar, and homemade Baja sauce. Definitely tangy and easily shareable amongst 3-4 people. - Fish only - comes with two pieces of fried fish and tartar sauce. This was pretty good and not too bad of a portion. We split it and ate one each. Good batter to fish ratio! Got our fish and chips cravings satisfied for sure! Bonus points for the pun, the Codmother is actually hilarious and definitely won me over. Would totally come back for more if I'm ever visiting San Francisco again! read more

This hidden food truck is serving up some of the best Fish & Chips in San Francisco!! The awesome part is that they have their own little area, offering up some tables for dining giving it a nice chill vibe. You order up at the window, or they also have a kiosk if they're very busy where you can place your order. First round, I went with the fish and chips. It took about 15 minutes to be ready which was not bad at all (It's made to order as it should be) and took a seat to enjoy. First off, that fish comes out piping hot!! It's also quite a large portion of fish which is much appreciated. Now flavor wise, the cod is absolutely delicious. Perfectly fried and flaky! It comes with tartar sauce which goes so well with the fish! Well it was so good the first time, we went back the next day and got more of the fried cod and also got some of the fried calamari. And WOAH.... Okay, that calamari was amazing!! First off, the batter itself is so well seasoned! If that's not enough, it's served with their homemade chipotle sauce which is so so good. It has a little spicy tangy flavor that goes so well with the calamari! It quickly became one of my favorites. read more

The food is amazing. My husband and I go to San Francisco pretty often and we visit the pier all the time to eat seafood but instead of going to the Pier 39 will be coming here next time. Service was exceptional and very friendly people. I would highly recommend to anyone. read more

Very good fried seafood. Batter on the cod, shrimp, and calamari seasoned well and all was hot, fresh, and crispy. I REALLY enjoyed the super flavorful garlic fries. Why doesn't every restaurant offer these??? Clam chowder was good, but maybe not the best we had during our stay. We ordered way too much food for 2 people but grabbed a couple of to go boxes to take back to the room for later. read more
I keep seeing all these fences up all around San Francisco this August. On a Summer stroll in the Fisherman's Wharf area and the tourist trap of San Francisco there is another jungle you can explore it on the surface when you look out to Angel Island, Alcatraz, Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. Although Seagulls and the Wharf Rat ( Greatful Dead Song IYKYK) roam the asphalt of Fisherman's Wharf there is a wild biodiversity and an ecosystem which is an undiscovered planet in the shark infested waters ( I see sharks on land) called the Pacific Ocean which is 36,000 feet deep. I been to countless places around Fisherman's Wharf and enjoyed lots seafood like the late Alioto's ( RIP= Restaurant in Peace). For Mother Nature's finest casual offerings I go to a deal I cannot refuse at The CodMother. This is one of the best values not only at the Wharf but in the whole city of San Francisco. This place feels like a fenced backyard patio with communal picnic benches of an outdoor food park with the food truck serving you items like Wild Chips and Fried Calamari . They also have fried shrimp and Baja tacos. This place has one of the best fish and chips in the city. The fish is fresh, crispy, and soft. The batter dipped in tartar sauce gives it a big splash and a tsunami of flavor. The weather has been clam chowder in July in SF so I got the clam chowder which was savory served in a sourdough bread bowl. The food here is so good you may leave a mess at the CodMother but don't mess with Mother Nature. Capture the Summer of Love moment at the Wharf with a picture "snap"or with digital phone photography called the phone "tap", sometimes you may see food out of cap-tivity like seafood being posted on digital platforms "app "with a lot "cap", find a table at CodMothers and start a session to "yap" Navigate around crabs in the bucket, pigeons, wharf rat, and see a seagull wings "flap" as your doing the tourist "lap" your guide is a digital app or "paper map" and grab a seat at the Starbucks on 49 Jefferson street and do some pregame sipping on a Matcha "Frappe", just don't get stuck in the game at the San Francisco "Tourist Trap" read more

Staff friendly. I ordered the fish,shrimp and chips. Gave condiments to go. It was good but not great. Had a bit of a doughy consistency. Big pieces which is a plus. I probably won't go back because everything tasted similar. No difference or flavor difference. read more
We were pretty starving by the time we arrived. We ordered: Clam chowder: one was very buttery. Could have more flavor otherwise. Good amount of clams. Clam chowder in sourdough bread bowl: they forgot our sourdough bowl so had to come back...and you know how much is sucks to turn around and drive back through sf streets. Fish n chips: 4/5 nice and crispy, fries were meh Fish tacos: 3/5 fish n chips were better Calamari: 5/5 nice and crispy and good flavor. Parking in this area is horrendous. Tucked off food truck near the wharf. Looking for a quick sit down lunch and on a decent weather day this spot was perfect. Place your order at the truck then enjoy your meal at the picnic tables. Food was suuuuuuper fresh like, wait a few minutes or you'll burn your mouth, type fresh. The fish was battered and seasoned perfectly. The Gilroy garlic fries could've used a bit more salt but were still packed with flavor. read more

First, I have to say that it is unseasonably cool in SF right now so i was a little hesitant to sit outside but the tables are almost enclosed by plastic panels on the fence. At 60 degrees it was quite pleasant. The food is cooked to order so it does take a few minutes. Absolutely worth the wait. I ordered the combo. Fish and shrimp. The shrimp were perfect. Plump and juicy with just a hint of the lightest batter. The fish was very good as well. Traditional batter fried cod. This place is legit. read more

A permanent food truck in SF! We stopped by on the way to the pier since we were craving some fish and chips. We ordered the bread bowl clam chowder and the fish and chips. There were only a couple other people there, and our order took around 10 minutes to come out. The service was polite and patient. There was ample outdoor seating. Food was high quality and fresh. The clam chowder was hot and the bread bowl was really filling. The fish and chips were hot, crispy and fresh. The fries were alright too. Great food, very comforting! I got fish and chips. Not sure but the chips tasted awful, it had this odd taste reminiscent of the bathroom, and the sauce was having too chemically of a taste. The fish was stellar though mostly, I would honestly have preferred the fish to be crispier. The food was ready decently fast. The place has outdoor tables set with umbrellas. read more

We finally made it here! Not quite on the bucket list, but definitely on our radar from the day we came to town. In 89 days, we intend to try something in every culture that we can find. Today, the Codmother represents jolly ole England. We arrived with a party of eight, including two kids. No matter, they have a kids menu. They have limited outdoor seating but the place wasn't at all busy. A bit of a shock from all the stories we'd heard. Our table was even covered by a tent! I think I'm now infatuated with how the English prepare their fish & chips. Nothing hits the fryer until you order and pay. It all comes out hot and crispy that way. Everyone ordered something slightly different and it was all delicious. They're very accurate and punctual. The only wait time is the preparation. The staff are very hospitable and helpful. There's something called "Bay Area pricing" but this joint is far more reasonable; especially when you factor in the large portions. Would love to come back here next year! read more

Soup was a little watered down for my liking I personally like it a bit more thick/creamy however it was still delicious. Fish batter was crispy and inside was juicy.
