Was a regular here for about a month, but decided to wean off the caffeine. Right around the corner from my apt, this little gem is amazing! I've had their dirty chai and iced coffee, and I LOVE it! This place serves pretty good coffee and tea, but it generates an incredible amount of waste. To not have recycling when you produce so much paper and plastic waste is the exact opposite of social responsibility. Pretty surprising given that they are in Golden Triangle. There is a public recycling bin across the street. Fix it. read more

Seriously, the only thing that keeps me from buying coffee here every day is the fact that I'm desperately trying to save more money. I've never had anything other than coffee here, but the coffee is all you really need. The macchiato is pretty much perfect, and the dirty chai is wonderful on cool and rainy days. After going in for "fancy" drinks the first few times, I finally just ordered a regular old cup of coffee. This always seems telling with coffee shops. Is the regular, plain old coffee just as good as its dressed-up menu neighbors? It is at The Coffee Bar! It's obvious that this place knows its coffee in any and all forms. You're not going to be disappointed. It's definitely small. It has almost always been crowded, in my experience. If you're looking for a place to sit and read or write, you might want to grab your coffee and go find a park bench, but it is absolutely worth the crowds and lack of space. But the service is great, the coffee is excellent, and the place (from decor to latte art) is incredibly Insagram-able, if you're into that. The only negative thing I can think to say is that if you don't know it's there, you'll walk right by it. I know I did! Definitely keep an eye out for it, though, and stop in if you have a minute to grab an excellent cup of coffee! read more

Great coffee and friendly staff. Love their Cortados! It's well lite and hip. The place is small, usually busy, and seating can be limited. I find it's best for coffee on the go or a small meetup with a friend. I personally could not sit there for a few hours and work with all of the hustle. The coffee is worth stopping by. read more

My favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood. I go there almost every day. I drink only espresso drinks (cappuccino, latte, macchiato) so can't say for cold, brewed or flavored drinks, but in my opinion their stuff worth five stars. read more

This is the greatest small coffee shop in the DC Area. I used to work nearby and stop there for my morning coffee - it was always full but the wait was very bearable because the staff was hands-on! I like the place, there are always people in this coffee shop. The vibe and the aesthetic are great. In terms of the coffee, I could order the cardamom latte. It was one of the best coffees that I had in DC. Not only that but the bar is quite close to the White House. You could grab a coffee and quickly stroll over to the White House on a chilly day. Attractive place, nice service. I'm not a coffee drinker: I do chai and hot chocolate. I tried each drink 3 times in order to be as fair as possible (someone could just have had a bad day, so I wanted to get an average). Chai: tasted like sweet milk each time (i.e., no spicy flavor) Hot chocolate: tasted very, very weak each time and the color was very pale, indicating that there is very little actual chocolate in the cup. I'm a chocolate aficionado and half Belgian, so I'm pretty picky about this. So far, the best "authentic" hot chocolate I've found is at Quill bar in the Jefferson Hotel 1 block away. It has a dark color, rich chocolate taste, and is not too sweet. This place is near where I live and run errands, so I really want these drinks to be better. I hope they find better chai and chocolate sources and also use more of them in each drink. read more

I'm torn about this place. The baristas are always friendly, no matter how packed the place is in the mornings. However, the quality is pretty wildly inconsistent. Sometimes it can be amazing, sometimes functional, and sometimes "I can't believe I paid $4 for this!". La Colombe seems to be the gold standard for price, consistency, and quality in my experience, but I'm hoping this place can work out the kinks and become a good alternative. read more

I love coffee. Black, unsweetened coffee. Dark, french roast. If you're like me, you won't find anything to drink at The Coffee Bar. But if you like frou frou drinks with milk or soy or spices, or whatever, or if you like puny, light roast coffee that tastes like it's diluted with sawdust, then maybe this is the place for you. I wouldn't know. As I said, I love coffee, as in roasted coffee beans, ground and infused with hot water. And I don't see the point of spoiling a good cup of coffee with a lot of garbage. read more

Delightful espresso! TCB is a hidden treasure among all the office buildings in the area. The espresso is perfectly smooth and creamy. Local pastries and great service. The only drawback is it's very tiny so space is very limited. Not a place to camp out and work, but a fantastic place for great coffee and espresso. read more

Sweet little place. I was wondering around DC running errands, which for me means dropping into little paces like this a few times during the day. I like it here. The service was friendly and inviting, and my not so young anymore (and probably never hip) self felt quite welcome. I wouldn't want to spend too much time there as the space is small and doesn't say "linger" to me, but I wish I was near it on a regular basis so I could stop in, well, on a regular basis. I got an Americola, which is yes, Coke with espresso in it (seems to have become a thing as I've seen it offered elsewhere). Despite the Coke, I could tell the espresso was smooth and balanced. I was warned twice not to shake, stir or otherwise jostle it because it would explode, which makes me wonder how many times that has happened. But that is neither here nor there. I wanted to really like this place because it is an independent coffee shop right next to Starbucks and Peets -- and it is so cute -- but they are so incredibly overpriced. I know I had a slightly "special" order of a soy dirty chai, but it was more than $7 -- for one drink! Even though the quality and the atmosphere at The Coffee Bar is better, I can get the same thing a couple blocks away at Au Bon Pain for $2. read more

Sorry, but 4 dls. for a chocolate croissant that is not even to die for and 4 dls. for a green tea which is not even served in a tea pot? They do not even know how to serve green tea, which was served with boiling water. If you are just pouring water with some loose tea leaves, there is no way you can charge 4 dls. This is a great local coffee shop. All of the staff are extremely friendly. They make an effort to remember your order if you are a frequent customer. there are pretty christmas lights and printed out insta pics hanging up on the walls. the atmosphere is cute and hipstery (if that's a word). the space is really small, so most ideal for grab-and-go, although there are a couple of spots to sit. the shop was packed at 8:30 AM on a weekday. i had a vanilla latte, and it was tasty enough. the prices are typical of a coffee shop in DC - my drink was $4 or 5 or whatever. so, overall, it was a fun place to try. read more

LOVE this place! Took a break from work this morning to grab a mocha and a bagel. Trendy rustic/industrial/vintage decor (which I love), and great coffee. Friendly staff, and they seemed to know some of the customers, which was really cool and had a neighborhood feel, despite being located in the business part of DC. I left off a 5th star because it's a touch pricey (not too high for what they offer, just a touch high for me), but I will definitely be back. Thank you TCB! read more

The best coffee in the area by far. Not a huge variety in snacks, but you're not there for snacks. You're there for coffee, and maybe iced tea, and you are in for some FINE coffee. I'm so ruined for other coffee places - I used to go to Peet's and now I will literally never go back there. My only hesitation in five stars is the price, but you get what you pay for and TCB is well worth it. read more
