Every time I come here it's like no one is really working. They just talk and mess around which is okay to some point but when the line is taking 20+ mins when there's only 5 people in line, with 6 employees on the clock that are visible, it gets to a point where I take that as inconsiderate to your paying customers. I just don't think that's okay, and when I'm in a rush to get to class it's frustrating because they could easily do much better. Every other coffee bean is always fast, they seriously do just take their time and it never fails. Ever since they got rid of the two Starbucks we had on campus, this is the last place on campus to get good caffeine. I recommend downloading the app and placing a mobile order ahead so that maybe by the time you get to the store your order is ready. They are absolutely slammed. Always have a line or a crowd waiting for their drinks. There's not really anywhere in the store to sit but I don't think your want to side inside the store. It's loud with blenders goin Goff. Every single time I walk into this shop I leave regretting even walking in to begin with... The associates/ servers are rude, mean and arrogant. My orders vary, sometimes I'll order a large water w/ ice and snacks or a blended drink. It's NOT complicated. Every time they forget my water and I have to ask multiple people or be ignored at the area where they give you your drinks. People that placed their orders after me end up getting their drinks before me and when I try to speak up, the associates pretend they can't hear or see me when I try to catch their attention. Even placing my order I feel so uncomfortable because they're always in their own world by being in their own conversation with each other, dancing to the music or on their phones as if I'm not even there. I'm the type of person to try and not bother workers because I know how much they endure from experience, I always say "thank you" for everything and I don't ever write bad reviews! I was a Starbucks customer more out of habit than out of preference for their coffee. Then, I decided to stop by The Coffee Bean because a classmate had recommended I try their coffee. Well, I haven't been back to Starbucks since. The coffee here is much better especially their brew of the day (light roast) plus they have so many other types of sandwiches and pastries to choose from. I had awesome professors this semesters so I bought them each a gift card from Coffee Bean as a way of showing appreciation for their efforts. Yes, the lines can get a bit long but they move fast. They haven't updated their hours on yelp, but they're officially back open from 7am-7pm! It's the best spot for coffee on campus and it's located right in the heart of CSULB @ the USU. I recommend using the app to order ahead as well as earn points. If you don't, you will be stuck waiting in line for 15 minutes, and then another 15 mins for your drink. App orders are picked up at a table off to the side, which is kind of iffy as it's basically an honor system. read more

My only complaint is that my siblings who were visiting campus were waiting for 15 minutes for 2 iced teas and were being ignored by some girl when it wasn't busy. Another thing too, sometimes they say they have an item, but then they say they're out of it. I like CB's pumpkin spice Chai Frappuccino, but here it's never made right, even when choosing the thickness of it, it is always watery and tastes bad. But I guess it'll do. I've been a regular patron since the semester started and on each occasion I have noticed that staff was consistently friendly and had positive energy on every occasion. I love that! It's rare to find that kind of service and they should be applauded for it. Drinks are pretty standard, but they also offer unique refreshments that I wouldn't expect from a coffee shop such as their spin on Thai Tea. That's pretty cool and I've seen other students on campus with it so it must be popular! Another thing I appreciate is that they offer almond-coconut milk as a dairy substitute. Most establishments offer soy, as does this one, but not many offer almond milk which is hard to believe since it's become such a staple in people's preferences. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before all coffee shops hop on it, but until then...at least coffee bean offers it! I know it gets pretty busy in here around 11a (not sure of the other times), but they're efficient when it comes to putting in orders and getting them out. My only suggestion would be having a bigger outdoor seating area. I think it would make sense and is practical for an on-campus location. read more

The baristas are very nice, friendly, and helpful (when you don't know what to order). They've never messed up my order either. However, if they did make an error I'm sure they wouldn't have an issue making a new drink. They are very accommodating and friendly. I think it'd be cool if they got on the Tapingo thing. The line never gets super long, though, which I appreciate. They get orders out relatively quickly and efficiently. The prices are good too. I really like this coffee bean, and it was always me go-to coffee place while I was at CSULB. In fact, it's probably the best quality coffee that you can find on campus. Everyone who works at this Coffee Bean is so friendly, and they always chat with me while I'm ordering my drink. They all seem like they are happy to work there. Despite how busy they get, especially during certain times of day, this coffee bean never has a horribly long wait. I really appreciated the fact that I could grab a latte quickly on my way to class. The Starbucks on campus has crazy long lines most of the time, and I think Coffee Bean has better quality coffee anyway. They open early, and even stay open during the summer which was helpful to me because I worked on campus for three years, which included summers. Although there is very limited seating inside, it is connected to the USU which has a lot of tables, and it also has outdoor seating - so seating has never been an issue for me. The employees are always cheerful and pleasant, the food and drinks are always good, and I keep coming back. This location is located in the middle of the busy CSULB campus, and has a pretty consistent stream of customers lined up, but service is always excellent and fast. I usually get one of the Ice Blended drinks with the no sugar added powder. Other items I sometimes splurge on include the butter croissants, the bagels, the iced teas, and seasonal drinks like the Winter Dream tea latte, or the pumpkin or honeydew Ice Blended drinks.
