I will have to go back and try some of the other drink and food options. This is probably against the norm, but I'm not the biggest fan of drive-thru coffee. While I understand the ease and convenience, I miss the days when the coffee shop was special. For the average morning "Omg, I need this to function!" cup of joe, I prefer to brew at home. I remember when a certain green fish-lady started to spread her java across the country and local coffee shops were popping up around the city. You didn't stop by to grab a quick cup to go. You went to the coffee shop FOR the coffee shop. It was an event. Sometimes, literally. Shops would host live music, poetry readings, and other community activities. (Gosh, I really love being a Gen-X'er and living during those cultural times!) There is something special about spending quality time with a good friend. Meeting with my friend was good for my soul. Whether it's an old friend you've known your entire life, or a new friend you didn't expect to connect with so well, a hot cup of coffee (or a nice, dry red wine) can help facilitate these soul nourishing conversations.

But, I did see some old timers posted up with coffee, sitting at a nearby table. They looked very comfortable and not like patients. So, you can visit San Damiano without being a patient. There is free parking in the parking garage by the building. They serve Starbucks coffee here, so you'll find many of your favorites, but not the fancy milkshake-like coffee drinks. Prices seem to be a little less than a Starbucks store, which is nice. They also sell a few refrigerated beverages (Pepsi products). No real food to speak of, just some pastries. But, if you want food, you can go a couple of steps away to the hospital cafe, which is excellent. Oh! The coffee shop is also a gift shop, with a few little comfort items available for purchase, like scarves, neck pillows, socks and stuffed animals. They also have a bizarre selection of candy. You'll find all of the popular heavy-hitters, like caramel creams, Chuckles, peanut brittle bars and ... Zagnut? Who in the world wants this kind of candy? I feel like this is where the old-fashioned candy bars come to die. I almost bought a Zagnut just for the novelty. There is no seating in this coffee shop, but there is lots of seating just outside of it. Just order your coffee and get it to go.

But the moment I spotted the 32 oz coffee bucket...I was sold. I've been searching for a coffee shop that serves coffee buckets, so this instantly became a must-order. Not only was the bucket such a fun experience, but the coffee itself was perfectly balanced despite the larger size. Plus, I was thrilled to take the bucket home--I already know I'll be reusing it! I can't wait to come back and work my way through the seasonal menu. The atmosphere is just as impressive as the coffee. Second, the cafe space itself is super inviting and decorated really nicely. There is also a little space for open mic nights, with instruments like a keyboard and acoustic guitar set out. There are cozy places everywhere to sit, including couches. This would be a great place to study or work remotely. But dang, man. Waiting 40 minutes for two burgers and an order of loaded fries ain't for me. And there was a family of six who were ahead of us who were still waiting for their food after we were done and leaving. The problem is that there is one kiosk to order from. There's no one at the counter to take orders. And there was one person in the back making food. They also don't have all of the items that are available in the cafe on the kiosk menu. For instance, if you wanted a can of Coke or Sprite or a bottle of water, you can't order that on the kiosk because they're not listed. So you have to flag down the lone guy in the back making the food. The burgers are supposed to be smash burgers, but they were just regular cheeseburgers. The loaded fries were fine -- just ground beef, grilled onions and a special sauce. Kind of like a deconstructed burger on top of fries. To top it off, it kind of smelled like sulphur in the cafe, which was a bit of a turn-off. I don't know what was going on there, but I don't want to smell that egg smell when I'm trying to eat my food. The strawberry refresher was good, my child said. They have a lot of different beverages here (which are fortunately on the kiosk menu), like said fruity refresher, hot coffee and iced coffee, matcha lattes, smoothies and other drinks. I hate to give out a two-star review, but my experience could have been a lot better, so I have no choice.
