We have been trying some different breakfast spots lately and this place is fairly nearby. We stopped in later on a Sunday morning. We weren't really greeted as we walked in but a woman said hi as we took a seat. No one else acknowledged us and we didn't realize she worked there because she was just kind of visiting at a table. There were also two other tables being used by young children to play and nap. So, it was a little awkward... Anyway, another woman finally came out from the back and gave us menus and coffee. We had eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and blueberry pancakes. It was fine. It's really standard food that kind of just feels like you went to someone's house for breakfast... including a little burnt edge on the pancakes. We both ordered Jozi's Fave and received perfectly cooked eggs (over medium for me and scrambled for him), turkey bacon with the perfect amount of flex and crisp, and delightfully large and fluffy pancakes!!! As we talked with Michelle, we learned that she and our families are long-time friends who grew up in Cleveland, together. This on top of the service, intimate feel, and amazing food solidified this spot as a breakfast stop for me on any return trips home. This breakfast place is terribly mediocre. Despite having great potential from it's prime location, diner decor and solid menu, the breakfast here left little to be desired. I will not return. I tried the owner's namesake menu item. The scrambled eggs were good and went well with the hot sauce I was offered. The sausage links were fatty and chewy; opt for the bacon if you come here. The French toast needed more time in egg/milk because were it not for the powdered sugar on top, I would have mistaken them just for dry buttered toast. I also opted for a side of the potatoes. They were cooked fully but seem more appropriate for a Thanksgiving dinner with their cooked-far-too-soft consistency and the large cuts. For breakfast, I'd prefere the potatoes to be cut up in smaller pieces with a nice crunch from a griddle-cook before serving. If weird smelling silverware bothers you, steer clear. If it doesn't, you're in the area, and you want diner coffee with a side of good-enough eggs, this your place. read more

My dad took me in here for the first time. He loved this place when he was alive. He'd go every morning as a retired police officer. Josie & Michelle were regular people he mentioned in everyday conversation. He'd get the Crazy 8 with home fries. It was his jam. When the doctors got on him about his weight, he didn't stop going. Instead he would just eat half and bring the rest home for us kids or a later meal. Now to the point, this isn't a place you stop going to for any reason. The service is tops and it is paired with kindness and care for the customer, the establishment and the product. We ate breakfast here right before my first kid was born. I got the Crazy 8 and my wife got the Banana-can cakes. That crazy 8 is filling and cheesy. Josie doesn't play with those ingredients. This omelet is always overflowing with okey-gooey goodness and veggies and meat. The 10-12" pancakes were light and fluffy and giant. Bananas and pecans everywhere!!! I honestly have no idea how this is such a low rated establishment. I had such a great experience here yesterday. I came here on a recommendation claiming that this place made the best blueberry pancakes -- I was not disappointed. First of the pancakes are huge! They were so dang delicious even for simple blueberry pancakes they were perfect. And the amount of blueberries was outrageous (in a good way) SO. MANY. BLUEBERRIES. I also had some bacon which standard delicious bacon. Also had an order of potato pancakes and they were also very good. I would have liked them to have a little more onion flavor and be a bit crispier but that's just personal preference. Now for the coffee... I absolutely hate diner coffee. I thought their coffee was pretty good. Next for the service. This is a family owned and operated business which I love. The owner and her daughter took or orders and served us and were very attentive and friendly and the place was very busy. We had a few good dining experiences in the western suburbs of Cleveland while in town for my cousin's wedding. The first came on our first morning in town. As we were driving across town from one hotel to another, we stumbled into the Coffee Pot restaurant in Lakewood. My wife researched nearby breakfast places while I ran into Target for a quick purchase and the Coffee Pot was her suggestion. It would be very easy to drive past the Coffee Pot without even noticing it was there. I don't recall any protruding signage, just the simple neon in the front window. We were looking for it and nearly drove right past it. The inside is as simple as the outside with a few booths around the front and right sides, a long bar counter on the left where the server/cashier worked, and some small tables filling the rest of the space. At the back was the kitchen, where one cook worked to prepare all the food. We were told to sit where we like from the woman behind the counter. I found a high chair beneath the register for our little one, and she was right over to take a drink order. I just had water and my wife tried their run of the mill diner coffee. Though nothing on our visit would be out of this world, it was all so cheap and in plentiful quantities. For breakfast my wife had an omelette which was served with home fries and your choice of toast. I didn't sample the omelette, but she really seemed to enjoy it. The home fries were really good served with sautéed onion in the mix. I ordered a short stack of blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon. When my order arrived I was sure glad I went with the short stack of two pancakes. These were the largest and thickest pancakes I had ever seen. Even with my wife's assistance, I could only eat one and a half. The bacon was crisp, just the way I like it to be. Our entire meal cost us $16.39 including tip. The Coffee Pot is a great place for a cheap and filling breakfast. read more

This place is a hidden gem! Right on Madison in Birdtown with plenty of street parking nearby. Inside is very small with really no waiting area so if there happen to be no tables then you may be out of luck/have to wait outside (this hasn't happened to us yet!) The menu is typical breakfast diner-style so don't go expecting a fancy meal. Also to note: it's SO inexpensive (our bill for 2 entrees/2 sides/2 coffees was $15). I had banana pecan pancakes and home fries which were both amazing. Definitely give this place a try if you're looking for some home cooked breakfast with no frills. read more

I've had some great meals at The Coffee Pot, but there are a few things that miss the mark that make me wonder why some things can be so good and others so mediocre. The sausages. Why do they serve these things. I've had better sausages from a free hotel breakfast. There's no skin and it's very greasy and mushy. Like the kind you fondly remember from elementary school cafeteria breakfast. These are the worst part about The Don where you get a little bit of everything - everything else is on point (excellent bacon). I honestly would have rather paid the same price and had them exclude the sausage. I've never had really good coffee from here. The last two times I've been there it barely tastes like coffee - just hot water. You gotta have that strong diner coffee, especially if you're going to be called "The Coffee Pot". This is not a difficult one to solve - they're just not using enough coffee beans for the water. Most gas station coffee I've gotten is stronger. The Banana pancakes are AWESOME as are the home-fries. The omelettes are made very well. They have a lot going for them. Overall, they're at 3.5 stars right now in my book. Stronger coffee would bump it up to 4 stars and better quality sausage would make it 4.5 stars. read more

The menu is somewhat small but trust me, there's enough on the menu to be satisfied with. I settled on the eggs and corned beef hash, with home fries and toast. I added a short stack of french toast and my partner ordered the Big Boy. Warning - The Big Boy is a challenge and unless you got a super big appetite I don't recommend it - try The Don which is a smaller version of the Big Boy. The Big Boy is 3 eggs, 3 bacon or sausage, grits, home fries, and your choice of toast or pancakes. The pancakes are HUGE! Everything was stellar. The food was cooked perfectly, the bacon wasn't too greasy and the grits were cooked just right. We both left full and happy. If you like a real home cooked meal, then forget about Denny's or I-Hop and go to The Coffee Pot. Not only was the food great, but the service was wonderful. They made me feel welcome, and to be honest, sitting at the counter felt like I was sitting in their own private kitchen. I think I've found my new favorite breakfast spot. I had read so many reviews about this place I had been wanting to go in here an try just to get my feel of the place. I mean you see negative reviews on places. But you can't really get the feel for a place unless you go in an see for yourself. So we was out a about an decided to stop in an see what all these awesome reviews was about. The Service in here was awesome. The sweet waitress came an set us down in a timely manner and was great on service. My partner an I took an ample amount of time looking over the menu an finally came to a choice that we both ordered the same things just a few things fixed different. We both had the BLT, for the ones that don't know what that is it's a Bacon, Lettuce, & Tomato Sandwich. I have seen those in my past fixed alot of styles. This sandwich was made just wonderful an yes the Cook throws the bacon up on here no piece of the bread was not covered with bacon. I love a place that shows love in what they are cooking and this lady does superb way in everything she cooks. This is a place that we will be going back to again on another day for some breakfast.
