This was one of the worst Airbnb experiences I've had, especially for a long-term stay. I booked this listing for 30+ days while relocating for work. Within the first unit (Unit 201), we encountered a roach infestation. Multiple roaches were seen over consecutive days, including near our food, which forced us to throw away groceries due to contamination. Despite reporting this immediately, no extermination or inspection ever took place. We were then moved to a second unit (Unit 303), where on the first night we found a bug crawling on the bed sheets along with stained sheets and towels. At that point, we could not even sleep in the bed and had to use the couch. This means we experienced pest and hygiene issues in two separate units in the same property. While management eventually acknowledged the situation, the response was slow and reactive, and the issues should never have occurred in the first place, especially for a long-term stay. Cleanliness, pest control, and communication were not handled at an acceptable standard. If you are sensitive to hygiene issues or planning an extended stay, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

One of the worst apartment leasing experiences I have ever had. I have been trying since Monday to schedule a tour at Commodore Hollywood Apartments and have been unable to get assistance from an actual person. Every attempt led to an AI system, and despite being told that someone would contact me, nobody ever did. Several apartment listing sites advertise open houses on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Based on that information, I made the trip to the property and walked five blocks to the leasing office, only to find it locked, with nobody answering the phone or responding through the call box. The most concerning part of this experience was my interaction with Joanna. Rather than listening to my concerns, she repeatedly interrupted me and talked over me while insisting she was "trying to help." She then stated that a leasing agent had called me back. That statement was completely false. I never received a phone call, voicemail, email, or text message from any leasing agent. When I challenged that claim, instead of looking into what happened or acknowledging the possibility of a mistake, she doubled down and became even more dismissive. I then requested the contact information for her supervisor or corporate office so I could address my concerns with someone else. Joanna refused to provide it and told me that if I wanted that information, I would have to "look it up online myself." Think about that for a moment. A prospective resident who has spent days trying to schedule a tour, received no callback, found the office locked during advertised open house hours, and was then told that management contact information was not something she would provide. Instead, I was told to find it myself. The lack of communication was bad enough. Being given false information and then denied basic management contact information was completely unacceptable. Based on this experience, Joanna desperately needs additional training and coaching in customer service, communication, and how to properly handle concerns from prospective residents. More importantly, this property needs a leasing staff that actually communicates with prospects, follows up when promised, and is available during advertised office and open house hours. If this is how prospective residents are treated before they sign a lease, I would strongly encourage others to consider what customer service might look like after move-in. read more

Update: It's been 3 months since I moved out and still have not received my security deposit back. I have to email them multiple times a week and they keep deflecting making up excuses for why I haven't received it yet. They're so incompetent here, you almost have to laugh. -- Living here was the worst experience I've had at an apartment complex in 15 years. The people who run The James are unorganized and dishonest. The building is old - which would be charming, but it's so poorly managed and maintained that it's mostly just sad. They had people sign long leases without telling anyone there would be construction next door and everyone would lose their parking. They continue to charge astronomical rates for parking, despite the parking being miles away in an unsafe area. They also are so incompetent that they openly cc you on emails to other residents - and keep doing it after you ask them to remove you from a very private conversation they're having w another resident. One of many privacy mishaps while I was there. The people who work have trouble with even the smallest things. A simple ask like "can I have the key to my unit's mailbox?" will take weeks and 20x emails before you get a coherent response. Because the building is poorly maintained, it means there is mold / mildew everywhere - open the window in your bathroom at your own risk, as it leads to an interior chute filled with mold. You'll hear all your neighbors - both in their apartments and anytime they walk the hallways. The bathrooms are tiny with poor ventilation. The AC / heat unit in your room will also have mold on all the filters. It's impossible to get mail, packages, or deliveries here. None of the windows in your room will open because nothing is maintained. They pretend to have amenities and functioning wifi, but I spent every day on the phone with their ISP trying to get it working. This place is a disaster and severely overpriced. The James is a millennial oasis in an apocalyptic enclave. The building has a beautiful garden I'd drink vodka in and a gym that kept my cakes caking. The smart TV was great for all my Netflix & Chill sessions. The cherry on top was, Lizzet, the gorgeous charismatic Woman at the front desk! Lizzet made my stay so much better. If you're in Los Angeles short-term or long-term and require a place in the middle of it all, look no further than The James! My partner had been traveling into LA for work several consecutive days/nights a week from Santa Barbara. Before he lost his mind being stuck in traffic on the 101, he searched for a place where he could relax, rest and unwind after work. The leasing agent Lizzet was absolutely wonderful and accommodating for his unique situation by explaining pricing, various apartment availability (spacious studio and one bedrooms--providing video tours virtually), and the option of a cleaning service. The building is super neat given its history as a hotel and beautiful architecture. They did a stellar job with the interior design maintaining a hip vibe. There is a quiet lobby that can be used as work space, a communal bar for social hours, hot coffee in the mornings, a small gym, a private dog walk with outdoor patio and more. The apartments here are fully furnished and move-in ready! They come with all of the necessities of a private Wi-Fi router, fully stocked kitchen (oven, coffee maker, utensils, pots/pans, refrigerator, you name it--though no microwave), plus all of the utilities (internet, water, electric and trash) and amenities built into the price. Street parking can be limited but they partner with a nearby garage for a fee. It was so nice to stay here with my partner for a long weekend given its close vicinity to all the entertainment LA has to offer (2 blocks from Hollywood Blvd with nightlife and restaurants and in between West Hollywood and Los Feliz) and fairly quiet area given its location. I am surprised that I'm looking forward to my next visit to the 'big city.' read more

Very fortunate to have stumbled on this place via AirBNB when the place I had originally booked fell through at the last minute. The place is sooo much better than I originally booked. All brand new amenities in the unit, sheets, towels, kitchen supplies. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice features in the building. Laundry, complete gym and even a coffee lounge. Located in center of Hollywood everything is within walking distance. Target with groceries an easy walkable few blocks, plenty of restaurants steps out the door and plenty of shopping. Excellent hotel with excellent location located at the city center,extremely clean & comfortable . Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the friendly receptionist Lizzet ,she made our trip more interesting with her advices & tips about the city ,supermarket ,shops,restaurants bars are within walking distance. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody! It's a true sample of excellent hospitality. Thank you again Lizzet for going that extra mile for us, your guests!!! This review has to do with the management, not the rooms or the cleanliness of the hotel, although it might very well be relevant if you are making a booking. I signed a contract for a 2 month parking spot rental through whereipark.com to park my car at the James of Hollywood. The minimum rental period designated by the hotel was 2 months. I actually wanted to rent on an ongoing basis, so a 2 month minimum was fine. When I appeared to get my gate opener and my assigned spot, the hotel representative (Yuni) told me that they had canceled their contract with whereipark.com, and that I would not be able to rent past 2 months as the lot was going to be developed into a building. I was a bit bummed by this, but she told me they would honor the 2 month agreement because as she put it to me "it was not my fault". So be it. They were honoring the contract for the minimum period. I signed the contract with the hotel, paid, and started parking while looking for a replacement. So far so good. However, 4 days before the end of the FIRST month, I got an email telling me my contract had been canceled and I needed clear out and return the gate opener in 4 days. Yuni tried to say she had told me I could only have the spot for one month (completely false). Then she defaulted to "well we just don't have anymore spots". Not my problem - they signed a contract with me, so they should honor it. It also makes zero sense as there always seemed to be a few spots here and there in the lot. I should also point out that many different management team names were cc'd on the email chain canceling my contract prematurely. Not one stepped forward to fix the situation. Bottom line, this hotel cancelled a signed contract with me, mid-term, for no reason and on a moments notice - totally leaving me in the lurch with no place to park my car. They messed up and instead of dealing with it internally and finding a solution, they passed the problem on to me, the customer. Basically the exact opposite of what the hospitality industry is all about. I suppose they feel my chance for legal and financial recourse is minimal, so hey - screw him! If they feel free to behave like this with parking tenants, one imagines they would do the same to people who might book a room for a short or long term stay. Imagine booking a room for 2 months and then at the end of the first month being told "oh, sorry there was an error- we can't accommodate you for the second month!" If you're looking for a long term rental at a historic LA hotel, try a place like the Villa Carlotta instead, or some other such place. There are plenty of them in Hollywood. These guys are flaky, and you will be the one to suffer because of it. read more
