Do NOT sign a lease agreement and please consider never moving into this complex. Not only is the rent high and unreasonable with all the ridiculous fees it is also UNSAFE. Whether it's cockroaches taking over the apartment you JUST moved into or somebody being shot, its ALWAYS something. They want to charge fees for each vehicle yet they don't have security in the complex. They NEED armed security. Why would you have to pay to park when they're already charging you like $2600 for a 2 bedroom paper thin wall apartment. They're taking serious advantage of residents. They DO NOT care about your health or the health of your child because if they did nobody would be dealing with cockroaches, mice, or fruit flies. Nobody would have to wait weeks after reporting the issue. And finally, 3 cars were stolen out of the complex last night. One of them is my daughter's vehicle. She and her husband who work their asses off just to live there is so troubling to me. They have a baby and should not have to deal with all this shit for what they're paying. Hey Commons, want to charge fees for residents cars? Then hire a security company! My daughter and her family should feel safe for what they pay you! You're money hungry and do not care what happens to the people that have no choice but to live there because they can't afford to move. If you're gonna charge parking fees you should be responsible when cars are stolen out of there. read more

Generally good, but is better if 1. upstairs wooden floor doesn't squeak and do not have a sporadic noise maker upstairs. Management office CANNOT help on these issues. 2. Paid parking from 7 pm to 7 am. If you don't have visitors to visit you for dinner, I guess that's fine. Or $6 parking fee during their stays. Start charging from 7pm is absolutely a rip-off and to discourage friends from visiting you. read more

I have never felt inclined to review a place of business, ever. But AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. They constantly send out all the emails about minors running amuck in this community; it is crystal clear that these parents do. not. care. Children screaming at all hours, running around unattended at astonishingly young ages(I've seen literal 2 year olds that can barely walk on their own), littering EVERYWHERE, sharing codes to different buildings with eachother to play hide and seek... I could go on and on. The shameless cash grabs are also ridiculous. Fees to use the AMENITY center, fees for guest parking-- it's almost laughable how greedy they are. I've lived in other apartment complexes, much nicer than this and managed by Avalon-- and the gym and guest parking were 100% free, as they should be. Marijuana and cigarette smoke. I mentioned a couple of months ago that a new neighbor has started stinking up the hallways with marijuana ever since they moved in. I was told to take a picture. Not only is that impossible (they smoke indoors), but I'm not going to go on some spy mission and take pictures of someone without their consent. That's just weird. There is also a gentleman that likes to smoke cigarettes outside my building. I like to have my window open, especially this time of year, and he frequently stinks up my apartment with cigarette smoke. Nothing is being done about this. Dog poop and litter EVERYWHERE. The amount of dog poop and litter that was on the ground once the snow melted was INSANE. I was happy to see that a lot of this was picked up once landscaping resumed. Unfortunately, this only lasts a couple of days because that's all it takes for people to ruin it again (especially with litter, it's everywhere). Suffice to say I am counting down the days until my lease is up. I absolutely hate it here. Residents here are rude, trashy, irresponsible, and selfish. Oh and incredibly unfriendly. God forbid you smile at your neighbor, or they will look at you like you have 3 heads. read more

This complex is OK! I live off of the main street- neighbors are polite and quiet. Parking has never been an issue. Apartment has central AC, dishwasher, in unit washer and dryer. Newly painted and plenty of windows for light and cat spying. I do think that every building is different, so who can say. But I am very happy with my ground unit. People cannot expect the Ritz when they rent here. Maintenance team and Black Diamond response team (24/7 issues) are super responsive and even played with Mitten the angry cat! Do not hate this place from the reviews. read more

Beside paying for parking There's no parking at night... there's car that are or look abandoned but they can not be towed just taking space that others in need. I am handicapped and I gotta walk long distances because there no handicap parking where I reside. I can't get a copy of my lease as they say you can get it at anytime on the app. They got a nice problem. Maintenance will maintain the entrance neatly but the rest of the place looks trashy. They don't clean like they do in the front. It's not a secure place I had someone break into my car not only mines but like four others call the office and they said there's no security here or anything just to file a report thankfully a neighbor had an outdoor camera and that's how the NPD ended up catching this guys. You pay so much rent and feel like you're living in the projects still. Very unsafe neighborhood. My daughter also had to move out of her townhouse because her neighbors boyfriend threatened to shoot them. There's multiple fights every other day. This place is a disgrace to human nature . they charge for every single thing yet do the bare minimum with fixing this nasty mice infested units . They charge 35 for each person on the lease that has a vehicle even if they are in high school or 7 dollars a day to park for your guess . Yoir car will be towed if you park with out paying fee each night after 7pm , Lights Gas, Heat , Water & Sewer fee residents have to pay for each month . This is on top of your 3,000-4,500 Rent . Call the office for help they either dont answer or rush you off the phone . Pool is on site however is an additional 500.00 fee yearly . The community gets real dark at night it's very scary . because of housing crises it's very hard to find apartments only reason why I'm still here living in misery. DO. NOT. LIVE. HERE. I have had issues here for a long time but definitely more since they moved over to UDR (a new management company). From a safety and security perspective someone was shot three times on a third floor balcony on Landsdowne way a few weeks ago and I had to find out on the news because the complex never released a statement or reassured residents in any way. Another huge security issue is mail theft. I have had multiple packages stolen. Amazon will sometimes take a picture of the package outside of the building or your door and within 1-2 hours of the package being left it is gone. I ended up getting a PO Box ($150/year) and using the Amazon lockers down the street because you never know which packages you will receive and which you won't. If you call management they tell you to call the police, when you call the police they write it down in a notebook but have told me on multiple occasions this is a serious problem with the complex and management needs to work out a solution (they aren't and they won't). There has been an excavator directly outside my glass slider digging a huge hole in the ground for weeks with no notice from the complex, I had to ask the workers why they were here to find out they were digging up a gas line. The apartments are small with thin walls, noise is a huge issue. Children crying, dogs barking, loud music. It takes maintenance days-weeks to respond to simple service requests like needing a ceiling light fixed. The straw that broke the camels back was when they towed my rental car. My car was having work done and I had a rental. I stopped by the office 3 times within a weeks span to get a pass and knocked and no one answered - the sign on the door said there was no one there. When I called and explained the situation and asked them to either pay to have my car released or ask the towing company to release my car and waive the fee they wouldn't. They said I should have called the office for a pass if no one answered the door (after repeatedly telling me if I knocked on the door during normal business hours someone would have answered.... guess I hallucinated it). Needless to say I will not be renewing my lease and strongly urge people to not live here. It isn't a safe place with violence and theft and the office management clearly doesn't care about the safety or satisfaction of the thousands of people who live here. read more

DON'T LIVE HERE!! This is by far the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. Always people yelling. ambulances and cop almost every week from something. I have had my packages stolen multiple times and management says we arent allowed to have a ring camera... They have no security of people walking through to get to the train and management does not care about your safety. To begin with, I am not a resident. I scheduled a tour to view the apartments available. Due to COVID the tour was self guided and I knew this going in. I received an email with instructions on how to begin my tour. The first item on the list was to go to the leasing center to start my tour. I arrive at the leasing center and there is a note on the door saying that no one can go inside due to COVID and to call the number. Totally understandable. So I call the number and it brings me to a menu, then to another menu. Then back to the first menu. I finally hang up and call again and immediately ask to talk to a real person. I stood outside the office, the phone ringing and ringing. So out of frustration, I left. Did they call me or email me to ask why I wasn't present at the time I said? No. They wasted my time. I could have been viewing apartments that actually wanted a resident. Also if no one was there, why send me multiple emails confirming my appointment, and why send me a list of instructions to follow if they won't follow their own instructions? I'm unhappy and won't be renting from the commons. read more

This complex is a nice, convenient commute into Boston. The townhome we rented was spacious, and seemed reasonably priced when we moved in. However, between the neighborhood noise (thin walls so neighbors can be easily heard, screaming children throughout the neighborhood), the old, outdated bathrooms in the townhome we rented, and the fact that we were charged high fees for needing to end our lease early, and charged additional surprise fees to reglaze the old bath tubs after we moved out, our experience overall was not positive. This place is a joke. I have called the leasing office ample times over a water leak issue only to hear the same response "we will let maintenance know." Only to see that a few days later the leaks are still there but now worse. Neighbors are loud, dogs bark at all hours of the night, kids riding bikes in and out of cars in the parking lots. Mold in the fridge the first day we moved in. $300 for an amenity center you can't even use because it caught fire. They won't return money!!! What else can I say about this lovely place. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STAIRS I WOULD. I applied to a unit in this property and received ONE contact. There isn't anyone in an office to speak to and no one knows answers to specific questions. Everything is to be converted into a text message that no one answers! I was told multiple times I had to leave a message and they will get back to me. NOTHING. There is no communication among the staff because I had three people call me in the same day about applying to a unit I already had. I was charged an application fee even after being denied. Jaida Smith called me but couldn't give me a reason for denial and told me someone will follow up to discuss the denial. All she said was, " call the number in the email." I then emailed Jaida Smith a few days later who by the way was extremely rude and she spoke as if she were the landlord of the property. She spoke to me as if she were the one collecting rent and refused to listen to what I had to say. I also spoke with Francesca via text for weeks and for three weeks in a row it was " I was on vacation." That's some vacation huh ? Neither one of them got back to me. That $75 they are asking for an application fee, lol - they can shove it up their asses while responding to calls and emails. read more

I would NEVER recommend living here at Windsor Gardens has gone down hill in terms of the type of people who has moved in. I have been here 13 years and the last two years has been 360 turn around. My car has been hit and keyed, trashy people who have moved in has no regard for time of night in the meaning of quiet. I pay market rent and the person just one door over pays nothing as there on section 8 when they told me they were on section 8 thinking that I was low income as well. This is what has moved in here. I'm almost out of here as my new home is being built. I pay $2,800 for a three bedroom and this place is so NOT worth that price with the types of people now taking over the place. It's a want to be high end look but it's all looks. The people in the office do a good job at showing you the updates but it's all smoke and mirrors. I Can't wait to leave. I have had friends ask me about this place and I go out of my way to tell them to stay away! Trash left on the grounds, dumpers over flowing and trash gets blown around the parking lots. Ask your self this question for those of you who work 8 plus hours a day. Would you want to come home to this type of living environment and you pay $2,800 bucks the 1st of the month? How would that sit with you? Since this place was taken over by "certain elements" it's become an embarrassment to Norwood as I have friends outside of Norwood who owns homes and has seen an up tick of police constantly going into the complex. There goes the neighborhood type feel! The office needs to do a much better job a screening people. There has been a crime notice sent out a few times, a few cars were broken into. This is what happens when the element changes the area. Call the management all you want. They just yes, yes, I'll send out a notice. That's it! Pros: - Commuter rail is on-property - Landscaping is beautiful and the workers do an excellent job - Well-equipped gym - Smart home features like electronic lock, thermostat, smart plug - Patio and patio storage Cons: - High rent for the value - Mice - Water leaks - Pool, gym, preferred parking spots have an extra fee on top of the rent - Poor sound insulation between apartments - Kids skateboarding amongst the cars - Loud HVAC (townhomes) in living room - Little storage space in kitchen and closets - Nickle and dimed at the end of the lease We moved because the rent was too expensive for the value of the townhouse. There was a mouse problem that was addressed with traps and glue strips, but never followed up on and continued throughout our third lease. There were three water leaks that were immediately addressed and corrected with no damage to our personal property. One involved replacing the hot water heater and the molding for the door was replaced in an unprofessional manner. The rent does NOT come with access to the gym or pool, which is an extra cost. Having said that, the gym is well-equipped (we never used the pool). I'm not sure why but we could hear neighbors clearly through the walls on one side, but not the other. Kids rode bikes and skateboards in the parking lots all the time. I felt for them and the parents as everyone was stuck at home during COVID, and the playground (which looks very nice, but we never needed it) was off-limits, which was the correct choice during the pandemic. The landscaping is very nice and they do a wonderful job keeping up with it. All apartments are "smart" with keyless entry, voice-controlled HVAC, and 1 smart plug. We loved that aspect of staying here. The townhouses have a built-in washer and dryer which are surprisingly effective given their small size (we were in a two-bedroom ... three bedroom townhouses have larger machines, I believe). HVAC is in a closet with two doors ... one in the kitchen and one in the living room. It is quite noisy. The townhouse kitchen looks big at first, but there is limited cabinet space. We had to add shelving and two large carts to get everything stored correctly. Ultimately, the high rent, noise, and mouse problem, plus extra fees for the gym, pool, and some parking spots was too expensive and outside our limits, and so we are now in a smaller but much better-planned apartment nearby. We were incorrectly billed an extra day on our rent after move-out even though we moved out the day before our last day. I've emailed and called without return communication as of this writing. It's very convenient for the commuter rail on property. One of us used it for a while but eventually got a car so didn't need it. Update 8/28/2020 We are now being harassed for one extra day of rent even though proof of moving out beforehand was given. Unacceptable. The review has been lowered to one star. Steer clear of this disrespectful-to-residents property. Update 9/2/2020 We are no longer being harassed for one extra day of rent, and charge was removed. I have loved living at this complex. It is well kept, the neighbors are quiet, and they provide activities to bring the community together. Many families live in the complex, which creates a very safe feeling. Maintenance acts fast to any requests made and the office is very communicative! read more

Unbelievably my ac is not working. This is an on going problem here. First my heat didn't work, then my ac crapped out. All the hvac units were replaced and my ac is dead! Called emergency maintenance line but seriously doubt the "24hr" maintenance team will respond before Monday morning, it's Friday 5:30pm with a hot weekend expected, this place is incredibly awful. read more

Worst part is you are locked in a lease for 12 months and you need to pay a penalty to break it. Been living over 3 years in Windsor Gardens. First the good things. Lovely community, few places for the kids to play. Good amenities center, Gym, Greenery is great, Pool is great in summer time (although you need to pay extra for that) and best of all the commute. The commute is the single best thing there. I would give it 8/10 if it wasn't for the poor and careless UDR management. The things that you have to live with: The buildings are old, very thin walls, and you have to sign an agreement that you accept that the buildings contain asbestos. Many times you can't tell the difference if someone is walking in your own apartment or the upstairs apartment. You can hear everything, even the vibrator of the phone of your neighbor's phone. Basically you need to be lucky to get a neighbor that will respect you and try to keep the noise down as much as possible or get the top level apartment. Old buildings mean rodents. Few people are lucky that their apartment doesn't have this problem, but most people are unlucky like me. UDR doesn't do anything active for the problem, they simply do things passively. Once a week, a pest control person comes in and just lays down traps, that's it. It doesn't take a genius to understand that it would only be a matter of time till you get your next rodent visitor. We suffered for 14 month like this. One time, in daytime we had a big one cruising around in our kitchen. After a lot of shouting, one maintenance person came put that blocking foam all around the dishwasher from the outside, ugly, messy on the floor, instead of pulling the dishwasher forward and plugging behind it. A while later maintenance had to remove the foam and when he pulled the dishwasher to the front, you can see thousands of Mouse droppings! I sent the horrific video of the mouse droppings to UDR, the result? I didn't even get a comment on it. The lease terms are very short with UDR, a maximum of 1 year. UDR also started adding "hidden" fees or "add on" fees, extra for parking, extra for water consumption. They added Smart rent automation, which never fully worked and when we got a power failure one time it stopped working completely, to be fair, I didn't report this. For old tenants they promised they wouldn't add these fees but eventually started to do so. When it came time to renew my lease, they had increased it close to 7.5%! they also started adding the parking fees and water fees. I asked them to fix my rodent problem before I renewed. They wasted time, they sent the pest control person who puts the traps 4 times (one full month) before agreeing to sending someone to track down holes and plug them. Instead of fixing this once and for all for myself and all future tenants, they just send the weekly pest control guy who probably is paid a flat fee. Two weeks later I call to complain again and they say I need to add in the request again, I go into the management software and I see they closed my previous request to block the holes as "done"! Obviously it wasn't done and nobody fixed that. When I moved out, they deducted $380 for replacing 5 window shades. These shades are the cheapest you can find, basically 15 - 25 dollars max per shade, Walmart has them for 15. When I emailed back to complain about this, they didn't even reply to my email and my check was sent to me with the amount they decided was fit. To keep a long story short, UDR successfully makes this community rating go down to 2/10 or at best 3/10. UDR leasing team don't care, they do the bare minimum just to get it to work for you and be done with it. There is no preventive maintenance, just when something breaks. If you are the sort of person who complains nicely and expects them to be professional, you will suffer a lot like I did. If you are comfortable with shouting and constantly complaining, perhaps you will get better results. read more

I lived there for 4 years for the convenience of the commuter rail and the living quality decreased every year. -Terrible maintenance staff who responds to requests only when they feel like it. -Appliances that crap the bed on a regular basis. -Walls are paper thin and neighbors conversations can be heard through walls clearly. -Crying babies, domestic disputes... Nobody at the office gives a rats arse - You can smell what other people are cooking in your apartment. - The maintenance staff will show up whenever they feel like it and does not abide by requests asking for a general time frame of when they will show up - There are constantly renovations taking place which can be extremely loud withing your own unit. Jackhammers, hammers, drilling, you name it... - Terrible neighbors (all throughout building) who have no concern for being loud in the hallways, slamming doors, or leaving trash and crap in the building -We watched out neighbor get carted out in a "bodybag" and there was no notification of somebody in our building passing - There was a shooting IN the complex this year. Somebody was SHOT 3 TIMES on a balcony and the complex provided zero notification to the community - Police constantly driving through the complex -Packages are stolen on a regular basis DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF LIVING IN THIS DUMP read more

This is not a few day or a week that you will stay like hotels. I hope my bad experience below will help you decide before you consider to be tenant to this place. We sold the house and we had short time searching for the new home. We made a mistake and just don't want to have other people to trap in the same. Please reconsidering again if you want to rent this place. I have been here for one month but had a lot of bad experience. Poor management, they let you moved in even apartment isn't checked and prepared to ready to move in. The amount of this money you rent here, pls check norwood garden Or pay a little more at avalon, OR many some place else. We got into apartment that Stove, microwave were broken before we came in. Bathtup water is running down very slow, you can hear people walk upstair with noise of footstep 1 or 2 am. All of this you find out when you are living here, they took deposit but apartment wasn't prepared for you to move it. Maintainance people have to come in to your apartment many times, disrupting your living by fixing things that is broken even before you move in. The worst is their solution in order to replace microwave they have to demolition kitchen cabinet to put the replacement microwave which it could not fit to space. This place isn't called as your home. They will show you all fancy thing but we will tell you the truth. read more

These people are con artists. I lived there for 3 years and had renters insurance. I provided proof of this and then the company that owns the property had changed. They then charged me monthly for renters insurance and when I requested a refund because I said I already had it. I provided proof of this including receipts of the renters insurance and the address of which it was for. They said that was not valid proof and refused to refund me so I had to pay double the renters insurance. Including the full month fee when my lease ended on the 1st of a month. They refused to tell me what would have been valid proof of insurance seeing the receipts, company name, address where the insurance was listed for which also included the policy number they consider as "no proof" read more
