Delightful coffee shop! Not only they make a pretty good latte and offer nice scones and pastries, they host local art and artists year around with no cover charge! Was there a few nights ago and some amazing songwriters were right there playing some of the best heartwarming folk songs! The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I'd give it five stars but was forced to wipe down our table so we could use it (I also wiped down our neighbors which they thought was hilarious, but hey, I was already doing mine, right?) and after getting settled we were asked to move our selves, our drinks and our dog so they could get into the basement. Not a huge deal, and likely the prior patrons fault for putting our table on top of the locked trapdoor, but a bit of a hassle. Great HH wine prices and the view cannot be beat. read more

Hidden gem in plain sight. I'm not normally downtown during the workday but I had a lighter meeting day so decided to go spend a few hours working at The Commons. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and saw the place was buzzing with folks with the same idea. It was not just a great latte and great views but to also be surrounded by a good energy that really helped me focus and get a ton done. We came here on a Sunday, in the afternoon. Beautiful atmosphere, though a bit cluttered. It's very warm and cozy.. you want to stay a-while. It was full up at the time, but we found a pair of seats open on their nice couch up against the northern wall, counterclockwise from the entrance to the right and back. I ordered a Matcha Late, it came in a To-Go Cup, with a pretty design on-top. I wasn't asked if I wanted it for here or not, so I was surprised at the to-go cup. I'm a Matcha lover, and the Matcha here comes unsweetened as the only option. OK, I like mine mostly un-sweet. They do a "roll your own syrup" here for the simple syrup (which I'm used to), unfortunately it wasn't on the counter and I had to wait several minutes for it, as my drink cooled down. This method, sadly means messing up the pretty design if you dig sipping through that. I do a nice under-stir on mine, so it's not super messed up, just disturbed a little. I'll add: The syrup bottle was clean, but leaky at the spigot seal and made a mess on the counter as it dripped both at the seal and out the tip as it should on the latter. Onward: I always order an Oat Milk Matcha, and this one was quite thin once you got through the foam. So the base milk isn't as quality and "oaty" as my favorite shops. The drinks menu is really well priced, very competitive. I didn't pay $6+ for my drink, like I often do. I was happy! The help wasn't super friendly, not like other coffee shops, but responded to questions and simple chit-chat when asked and engaged. They just weren't very chatty or "bright and cheery". I felt like they were removed from that part of their job. The guy on the other side of the counter at the drink line was cool though. I felt better about the place after interacting with him. He was really attentive and helpful. My friend ordered a Bánh mì and an Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sando. He was over the moon with both of them. I will say there's a lot of garlic in the Bánh mì, but it was delicious he said. I do love the selection of games and card games here they have. We played a game designed to help you get to know your friends and family better with deeper questions. Very inventive, I had never played these cards before and really loved them. Overall, I will come back. And I'll keep chatting with that guy and just get to know him better. Maybe he takes a little to warm up to new people. I'm cool with that. I think you'll find it homey here and be welcomed and enjoy yourself. read more

Two of my favorite liquids are beer and coffee. If you're also a fan, this is the place! The Commons Cafe and Taproom is right in the heart of downtown Bend in an old home. They're off a public parking lot or a quick walk from anywhere along Mirror Pond or in town. They have lots of cozy indoor seating including tables for working, sofas, group tables for playing games, etc., they also have outdoor tables along the side and on the front porch overlooking the pond. The ordering counter is inside in the middle. They have a number of classic coffee drinks, pastries and sandos, and desserts. In the evening it transforms into a taproom with a great beer list, but canned/bottled beer to go. Prices here are reasonable and all the staff was friendly and welcoming. You also really can't beat the view. We all ended up here many times on our trip, mostly for morning coffee. I look forward to visiting again. read more

On a warm Sunday afternoon I strolled into the commons cafe not knowing I would be pleasantly surprised on how nice it was and how friendly the staff were. I ordered their house white wine and it was delicious and reasonably priced. I proceeded to sit outside as it can get slightly loud and busy inside since it's a small space. Wanting to take a coffee break while visiting family in Bend, we headed over to The Commons. What a great little shop! Our drinks were spot on and kuddos for having alternative milks (oat, almond, soy, etc.). It was pretty cold out the day we were there and the seating inside was maxed out. They do have some great seating outside, but on a cold day it was a bit uncomfortable. There were some heaters, but since we had one individual in a wheelchair with us, we weren't able to navigate ourselves close to them. A few more heaters outside in the cold weather would be a great improvement! Even better - bring in some gluten free bakery items! read more

This is the homiest, local coffee shop ever! The Commons is located in downtown Bend, close to the Deschutes riverfront. Located in what looks like a reconverted ranch-style home, The Commons has spacious seating (ranging from couches to tables), outlets, and a great patio area with a beautiful view of the river. Grab a coffee or tea to-go and take a morning stroll along the river, or grab a small bite and enjoy good company on their patio! And if you're sticking around for a while, check out their community bulletin boards for local events! I stopped by for a quick caffeine boost and bite to eat and was impressed by their coffee, tea, and baked good options. I'm always suspicious about the freshness of coffee shops' baked goods but I'm here to tell you that these were SO tasty. The croissants were fresh and crispy, and the matcha and chai were the perfect pick-me-ups. The staff was extremely friendly, and the atmosphere was calm, productive, and energizing all at the same time! And if all of this wasn't enough, they also serve various craft beers and occasionally have live music! You'll just have to visit to find out for yourself... Found this on yelp and it was walking distance from our hotel. Very friendly efficient staff and delicious coffee. Had the savory puff pastry with brie and tomatoes warmed up-very yummy .Husband had delicious oatmeal cookies. Showed up at 7:15 pm. Tried to order a latte, but cashier said he had shut down the espresso machine. Ordered a loose leaf tea that he handled without washing hands or using gloves. Responded in a very disgusted and rude way when I asked for more tea for the large cup of hot water he served it in. When he brought the tea,which was again handled with unwashed hands, he "tossed" the tea bag in my cup showing obvious irritation. Not the cleanest looking place to begin with so these actions only confirmed my first impression. Great location, might think about cleaning up the bad attitude, poor hygiene, and being able to deliver coffee during operating hours. No response to message I sent to feedback requested on the receipt. We won't be back or recommend. Keep the $3.75 and invest in some soap and water to wash your hands. read more

Downtown Bend is filled a variety of shops. After a brisk dog walk I stopped by Commons Cafe for a coffee. The interior is spacious, cold case is stocked with yogurt and kombucha drinks. Tried the cold brew and it was slightly more acidic and fruity not too mellow or smooth which I prefer. The local roaster Thump coffee is excellent and is served at nearby shops like Jackson's Corner. Quick visit next time will sit down for a beer or two. read more

We tried this place after a lesser experience the last two or three times. The staff don't seem to care much about the fact there are paying customers in their midst. Somehow that sits poorly with me as a customer, and the tracks from the overall experience of paying six dollars for a pint of beer. Call me crazy but there are plenty of other places that are more fun and where you're welcomed with a smile and service that acknowledges you and your 20% tip are not only welcome to but accommodated and celebrated! Location: It is located near the intersection of NW Brooks St and NW Oregon Ave. If I recall correctly, there is a two hour parking area walking distance. Make sure to check the signs. The People: Friendly. The Drinks: - Cold Brew: Strong and tasty, solid option. The Snacks: - Pretty good compliment yo the coffee. The Venue: An amazing spot to write/work/study (both indoors and outdoors). Different areas of the venue have different seating arrangements, so one could definitely find the one most suitable for productivity. The name was enough to make me want to check this place out. I have crow's feet of my own and I love the concept of commons in the context of "all people are welcome here." Plus I wanted to see what the new tenant had done to the interior of this old historic house when they turned it into Crows Feet Commons. Part bike and ski repair shop and part coffee and other beverage shop, the odd combination of functions invited investigation. The bottom line for me: one visit was enough. My Yelp opinion as to why follows. AOK though and worth a visit by curious Yeeps and other Peeps to see if if Crow's Feet Commons works for you. If you fit the demographic here, which seems to skew to younger, biker, skier population, you might find a new favorite place which would be a good thing for the nice people who own this enterprise. But for me...well...different strokes for different folks. LOCATED INSIDE OLD HOUSE As historical aside, the Goodwillie--Rademacher house is a Craftsman style that was built on another parcel in 1904 and moved to the current location, which fronts Mirror Pond, in the early 1900's. In 2007 it was added to the register of Historic Places. As a taxpayer in the city of Bend, I also appreciated the Crow's Feet Commons folks taking up residency in this city owned old house that the city had recent trouble finding a tenant to fill given the location off Mirror Pond Plaza. The Plaza attracts at times what one might call a "fringe" collection of people, using politically correct language. The previous tenant in the house, an arts appreciation non profit, found the increasing vandalism and even reported physical threats from these people intimidating enough for the largely female staff to move out and move on. COMBINES BIKE - SKI REPAIR SERVICES WITH COFFEE HOUSE GATHERING With that as context, I was predisposed to want to love Crow's Feet Commons. But I didn't enjoy it. Which has less to do with the business and much to do with the fact that I am simply not in their demographic. I no longer bike (due to MS) and I never did like skiing, so I'm not a customer for the bike and ski maintenance services or ski rentals (all located on the right side of the house as you enter). It seems as if the folks who own this place and work there really know their stuff in that regard, so if you're looking for those services, this could be a very good place for you. But, I do love coffee and it was the coffee house (to the left as you enter) portion that I came to check out. I was eager to see if this might be a new coffee location for me to come to and recommend to others. Based on the experience here, I won't be back or recommend others join me here. There are simply too many other places in Bend to enjoy coffee (and reading or conversation or whatever it is that you want to go with it) that are more comfortable. On the plus side, the prices for coffee beverages were on par for Bend. The Americano I ordered was very good and made from Stumptown coffee. (Odd though, given Bend has a number of local roasters that they picked a Portland company.) They also serve hot chocolate, tea, kombucha and even beer and wine. The eats are limited but include Sparrow bakery products, always a very good thing to have in the repertoire, and grab and go sandwiches from Little Bites. A couple of mid height tables with stools provides seats for maybe four more. Not a single standard height table in the place means it is somewhere between impractical and impossible for folks with disabilities or even small children. Maybe the recent entrée of the Paraolympics organization in Bend will encourage useable height seating when athletes who use wheelchairs come rolling in and find it missing. That aside, I found it simply uncomfortable ambiance here.. Different strokes for different folks. A plus is the funky woodburning fireplace, original to the house, which was lit on the cold winter day I visted. There is a TV mounted in the corner of the room. I can see this coming in handy for folks who might gather here to watch sporting events. If you have little children in tow, there is a play area in the corner. A good thing as it is unlikely wee ones can safely use the high perch stools. read more

This is a historical location turned into a very beautiful coffee cafe and tap room. It's not large at all but I love what they've done with the space. You basically walk around the coffee bar and kitchen. Outside the seating overlooks the river.
