I would recommend them only for basic repairs and only if you're not in a hurry. I have used them many times and they do an adequate job on repairs, and always do a bad job on polishing. I also would not bring expensive or important shoes to them - no $400 Guccis or shoes for the wedding - because their repairs are sometimes sloppy. I have gotten some good solid resoling that lasted. If you're looking to extend the life of a pair of shoes, they'll do a good enough job. They also carry a fair supply of shoe cushions, laces, dyes, polishes, shoe freshener and the like. They also sell new shoes from time to time, but I've never actually seen anyone buy shoes here. But, every single time I have gone to pick up repairs they were either not done, not started, or they take forever to find my shoes - and then realize they're not done or not started. I don't bother to ask for anything to be polished anymore, because they always have forgotten to do it and do a bad last-minute rush-rush job. Being on the Starbucks end of the Costa Verde plaza, parking here is a real pain. Don't even try for a spot out front, or in the lot next to Roy's, just give up and park underground if your car is small enough to fit in those tiny spaces, or by the Strip Club and walk over. read more

They do a good enough job but the prices are SO steep that it's hard to believe you're not being gipped... My repairs were 1. one of the straps ripped off my large L.A.M.B. tote, he managed to sew it on nicely but for $37....wtheck 2. a protective sole for the bottom of a pair of frye boots.... with the heel pad fix it was $48...that's literally 1/6 of the shoe cost!!! I don't recommend them as their prices seem extremely arbitrary...they rarely go with what's on the board above the counter and seem like they raise prices just so they can say "well, normally it's this much but I'll cut you a deal". sketchy. I've had numerous pairs of women's shoes repaired over the years and never have I encountered such poor craftsmanship in repairs as at The Computerized Cobbler. I dropped off my shoes on a Wednesday and they agreed to have the heel repaired by Thursday so that I could wear them to a special event on Friday. (The price that I was quoted for the repair was $7 more than the price on the sign for the specific repair I was seeking, but I thought I'd iron it out upon pick up.) When I arrived on Thursday to pick them up, it took them some 30 minutes (!!!) to locate the shoes and once they did, they informed me that the repair hadn't even been started! It wouldn't be ready until the next afternoon -- long after my special event. When I returned to pick them up a few days later, I noticed that one shoe was heavily damaged by the repair to such an extent that it physically cannot be warn (not aesthetic damage). For this, the clerk would only reduce the price by 20%. So here I am, having paid $20 for a repair to a pair of shoes that I can't wear until I spend another $20 to have them repaired again! I've never had a problem here, although I've never come for anything too sophisticated. Just a shoe shine every now and then, always done quickly and to perfection ... often while-u-wait. And the guy who runs the place is as nice as could be. Parking could be easier, but this is UTC. If you choose to live in a neighborhood like this, you get what you deserve. read more

aw poor computerized cobbler with such low reviews! ive used them a few times for minor repairs to my 'daily' dress shoes. yeah, like most retail places i go to, its because it's close to where i live. but im not a shoe connoisseur and don't need some special fancy cobbler i can entrust my $500 shoes to. maybe there is a better place for that. but for basic repairs i think they do a fine job. every time i have used them i have been completely satisfied. they guarantee their service (for a year i think?) so if you keep your receipt and something happens to them they will re-repair for free. that happened when the front toe thing broke off my dress shoe for a 2nd time. no question asked! i wouldnt say this place is any more special than another shoe repair business but they do what they are supposed to do...fix shoes. there was one of the times when i came on my scheduled pickup time and they hadn't even started the repair yet, but did it right away while I was there...I think it only took like 10 mins. i never asked but i am rather curious why they chose their business name. i mean really....what isnt computerized now? unless robots repair their shoes...that would be cool dude. read more

I took in a pair of $120 Kenneth Cole oxfords that were coming undone at a seam on the front left edge... I was never quoted a price, which I realized as I got home. When I went to pick them up, they had trouble finding them, and once they did find them, the repair was more expensive than I was used to AND not really that clean. You can still tell where the seam was coming undone, and the patch on the inside of the shoe to hold it together wasn't aligned properly. So instead of it pulling the seam back together, it's only shrunk the appearance of the tear. The shoes still LOOK like they're falling apart, so I'm not comfortable wearing them to a nice event... I've had to demote them to other occasions, and that was the purpose of these shoes. I won't return here. read more

My dog ate those blue shoes in my profile pic. My dog ate $900 YSL shoes. My dog has never eaten shoes before. Apparently she has expensive taste. The strap was chewed off, the suede had tooth indentations, and Leather Magic (the first place I went) decided that simply GLUING the strap back on the shoe would work. Uhm yeah, no. I called Nordstrom and they suggested that I come here. I figured the journey was worth saving the shoes. This guy is awesome! He gave me two options--half-moon parches on the back of each shoe or he could re-do the whole trim. I opted for the patches, and honestly, they look pretty spiffy. It's almost as if my YSLs were customized, just for me. They looked better when I picked them up than when I had bought them! Today I brought in one of my favorite handbags, and a pair of completely trashed Cole Hann shoes that I used to wear daily. He was able to re-stich my handbag and fix the heels on my shoes in about 30 min--just enough time for me to go next door a grab a smoothie. It's a long drive for me, but he does a good job and gives you options and suggestions. Totally worth it, even with the cost of gas. read more

We took two suitcases and one pair of heels to get repaired. The heels just needed the heel tips repaired but he did a bang up job of it and looked like he broke the heel and then tried to fix it. One suitcase just needed a little stitch job and that cost me 15 bucks. The other suitcase was not even touched. He made us wait 20 mins and then decided to get working on the chain that was broken. It took him 15 mins to fix it and it wasn't done after a week of keeping the suitcase with the guy. Don't think I'll go back. read more

Wow - I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before I went; I don't think I would have chanced it! Though I am glad I did. I have a favourite pair of Calvin Klein "snakeskin" heels that have been much-loved. The shoes were nearly worn through near the large toe joint, the heels needed to be recovered, and the soles re-supported. They reinforced these areas, and cleaned them up: 3 working days, $32; pretty good job! I also had a leather purse/briefcase that the strap needed to be reconnected to bag - they did this (though on a slightly different area of the bag, which ticks me off, but isn't all that noticeable) and reinforced the current one for $12. Workmanship seems fine, and you are definitely paying for the fact that you simply are too lazy, and probably don't have the tools, to do it yourself. Either way, it needs to be done, and you can get it done here. Huras (sp?) was very helpful each time I've been in. read more

Why They're a Shoe In: ONLY because it is so close to my house, oh so convenient and affords me an opportunity to chat with the old men next door at Starbucks who are sure to cheer you up even if you had the worst day ever. 2 stars for the fact they haven't yet lost my shoes. Why They Give Me Blisters: It seems that every time I come here (because apparently my misshapen feet require much shoe customization) there is some crazy shoe drama going on. One time, I stood in line while a couple went at it with the clerk as apparently the store lost the woman's expensive shoes and had no good explanation. Yelling and threats of lawsuits ensued. Boy I wish there was another Cobbler closer to me. This past time I went, a very elderly lady wanted to try on her shoes to look at how they fit before they stretched them. The clerk refused saying it was unnecessary and proceeded to try to explain to this poor old lady that he wouldn't gain anything from her trying on the shoe first. C'mon Computerized Cobbler (C.C.)... do the right thing; just let the lady try the shoe on for you it will take 2 seconds and make her feel like she is getting her money's worth! And again, boy I wish there was another Cobbler closer to me. Lastly, as I have been going to the C.C. for years now, having been what feels like an eternal resident of University City, I have watched C.C. attempt to become more organized over the years with different types of receipt/ticket systems. However, I will say there have been numerous times when they looked bewildered trying to find my shoes as I waited and waited and waited... there appeared to be no rhyme or reason where they stored the shoes that were finished. So when I tried to find a new shoe repair, this one didn't last long. After being charged a ridiculous price to have the bottoms of my heels replaced, I was told and given a ticket they would be ready in a week. When I came back to pick them up, I was told to come back the next day as they weren't ready. I stated that my shoes were supposed to be ready the day prior and showed them the ticket. Still, I was told the next day. This is the exact reason why I moved on to a new shoe guy. When I politely requested that some of the price be refunded, they refused. I would like to agree with all of the other negative reviews of this place. The receptionist is extremely rude - on all 3 occasions I was in the store. She seems very bothered by customer questions. I trusted a very expensive pair of shoes to this place - NEVER AGAIN! First, they charged WAY too much to do the repair,. Then they did not have the repairs done when they said they would be ready. Also they then charged me more for the "extra" repairs that I am SURE I had paid for the first time. But like the other reviewers experienced in this place, the woman is so rude and argumentative that I just gave up and paid - AGAIN. By that point I just wanted my shoes back. The final product was not good at all - messy, the leather was not cut in straight lines (my 4 year old cuts better), glue visible, shoes not cleaned for me, just overall terrible. Do not go here. My daughter wore out her expensive red suade boot heels walking around New York for two years. She literally wore down the heels-about 1-2 inches! The CC was able to purchase new heels in the same red suade shade that matched the boots and made them look new again! Then I took in my daughter's favorite leather jacket with a v-shaped rip on the back of one sleeve. It's so well patched that you cannot tell it was ever ripped. Great workmanship. A bit expensive but they got the job done when nobody else could! So I had a designer sweater/jumper hybrid and the zipper stopped working. I took the garment to 2 different tailors; one said they would have to replace the entire zipper and would not be able to match it with 100% accuracy, and the second tailor said nothing could be done. When I took the garment to Computerized Cobbler they told me they would simply repair the zipper and quoted me $18 JUST to take off the zipper head and straighten out a small piece inside that was bent. This place didn't get 5 stars from me for the following reasons: (1) I thought the repair was expensive considering the job was small and not labor intensive. (2) They try to get you to commit to a free foot exam where they will then try selling you specialized expensive shoes. (3) After I booked the appointment from sheer lack of awareness, they phoned me and told me I had to re-book the time. By then I was keen and alert, so told them no thanks. So here is why they got 4 stars instead of 1: (1) They were very friendly and nice people. (2) The guy was upfront about the price upon first inspecting the garment, so no surprises and (3) they fixed it as good as new when nobody else could. read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet? I love it!! This place is AMAZING- they are fast, friendly, and-- maybe I've always paid too much?--- I haven't run into any of these crazy prices everyone else is talking about. For simple stuff like heel caps and patching up my "well-traveled" clubbing heels, I've always gotten off fairly easy. Plus they've done a couple last-minute fixes for me (15-30 minutes) and I couldn't be more thankful. I also got an extra hole put in my belt, and as far as I can tell it was free.... I'm very surprised by the negative reviews for this place. I would have thought that all their reviews would be 5 stars. I came here because the hardware on my briefcase broke. I came in around 5pm and the guy at the front was very nice and friendly. He gave me some options and his opinion. He offered to have it done in 20 minutes at no extra charge since I really wanted it on the same day. I decided to hold off and told them I would be by the next day. They do great work. He even told me that if it broke again that it would come with a warrantee.... that is how confident they are in their work! Great place, great people... I will continue to come back. Humberto recommended I get a new heel and leather on the heel, and he would repaint all the worn out parts to look like new. I decided to go for it. I recently got married and entrusted him with 2 of my expensive wedding shoes (1 did not need it on one of them) to get the vibram sole on them so they would be more comfortable and he did a great job! One sole I choose a khaki brown and the other I choose a dark brown. They used to be better but I think the guys there are getting lazy. I just took my shoes to get them repaired, one pair being a strap needing to be re-glued on my wedge sandals. Well, they didn't pay attention and connected the strap over the other one when it needed to be under it. Meanwhile there was a poor lady trying to figure out what had happen to her shoes. They had promised her that her shoes would be done three days ago, but when she came to pick them up two days after the "due date", they told her to come back the next day. She did, but they couldn't find her shoes! And she was just standing there, looking confused and frustrated. She was really polite and nice to those guys, but if I were her, I would have thrown a fit. So the bottom line, these guys are going down. I'm looking for another place to get my shoes repaired in the future. read more

You can't buy REAL UGGS anymore. They are made in China and need to be broken in and are a pale reflection of the original classic. I had 3 pairs with worn down heels and a hole in the toe and had been told by 4 different repair places that there was nothing to be done. I was referred to Humberto by a friend and I'm so grateful I checked out the possibilities! He replaced the soles, fixed the hole and refurbished the boots like new. Got classic tall size 8 Uggs from when they were actually made in New Zealand? I'll buy them. Now I know I can get them revamped indefinitely. read more

This place is awesome. We usually get one of their coupons in the mail around once a month but even without the coupon their prices are reasonable. The first time I went there I had broken the heel off one of my favorite boots and they repaired it so well that you can't even tell which heel has been fixed. And more recently one of my strappy sandals straps detached while I was wearing them so I brought them in and not only did they fix the broken strap they also showed me that the straps on my other sandal were right about to detach too! This was after quoting me the price to fix the original strap and they didn't charge extra to fix/reinforce the other straps :) So far now they've repaired two pairs of boots, one pair of strappy sandals and one pair of pumps. I highly recommend the computerized cobbler and will definitely be returning. read more

I went here to get a pair of my shoes fixed. I got the slingbacks of one of my heels shortened and it only took a few days and the work was exceptional. It did not look messy and it fit perfectly after they fixed it. I just dropped off a purse to get the straps shortened and they can finish it today. The prices are a bit high but it is La Jolla so I am not surprised. I am hoping the work on my purse will be as nice as my shoes! Oh and what is computerized about this place?? read more

I did not have any work done, but the place had a decent collection of shoe supplies and stuff for your feet. My fiance asked about getting his work shoes touched up where they had been scuffed and she said this costs $5. We didn't think that was a bad price to freshen up $60 shoes. read more

When customers return a pair that can't be sold as new, I take them to The Computerized Cobbler for touch-up to be sold through my online outlet store. Convenient location, but really expensive. I had one of my sandals fall apart, with the part that goes between the toes completely detaching from the sole, making them unwearable (since nothing was holding my foot to the sole). I brought them here to get them reattached, and they said they'd had to remove the sole to reattach it. Okay, whatever. $20-ish. Um. That's a little.... Fine I guess..... I mentioned that the elastic on the part that goes around the ankle was also completely destroyed, and asked for that to be replaced on both shoes as well. Keep in mind that each of these pieces of elastic, fully stretched out (natural wear and tear) were barely a centimeter long. That added another $14 to my bill. I mean, I can kinda understand the price for the first repair (though it was only for one shoe....), but this is a bit ridiculous. Either way, they repaired the elastic well, and the toe thingy decently. Really expensive though. When I came to pick up my shoes (a few hours late, I might add), they said they needed another half hour or so. It was kinda clear that they hadn't really started on the repairs, but I hadn't had breakfast so I went to eat at Starbucks next door. Wasn't really inconvenient, but something to add. For comparison, I got my pair of heavyweight genuine leather boots resoled (interior and exterior soles), with the inner heel patched up and the whole thing polished, for about $55 back in San Jose. read more
