This store is insanely cute and has a very vintage-y feel to it. The candy displays in the middle of the store are very cute and always color coordinated. The displays on the walls are also cute. The chocolate covered things are my favorite (chocolate covered pretzels especially!). All in all, cute feel and cute display candies. I'm taking one star off because sometimes I feel like the candies from other brands is old. I've tried a few different things that I thought seemed like they had been sitting there for a while. Dust on some of the product, candy that was all stuck together in the bag, etc. I'm also taking another star off for the pricing. It's insanely expensive, and I feel like I've been to other candy places with better chocolates and candies for cheaper prices. If you're in U-Ville and need somewhere to stop and get candy, or if you just want to look around and check it out, I would recommend it. However, I don't think you need to go out of your way to come here- it's not the BEST candy store around. read more

Yes it's pricey, but I've done my research. I've been here many times over the years, because I love their flying saucer discs, as well as their peppermint shortbread chocolates. Actually, everything is pretty delicious if you have a sweet tooth. But lately, I was in charge of setting up a candy bar for about 40+ shower guests. I started finding myself in a bind, as I wanted everything to be a varying shade of pink. It's just not easy to come across pink candies these days...you'd think so, but... So after going to all of the top bulk candy stores (where I thought I could find things more affordably), I realized that I wouldn't be able to present the table in an aesthetically pleasing way without picking up extra goods from The Confectionary. They have all of the old school candies (buttons, rock candy, color coated taffy, beautiful pink lemonade gum balls) that provided the extra oomph that the we were looking for. Yum! I LOVE this place! I went all the time while I was a student at UW and discovered so many delicious treats. They have absolutely every kind of candy you can think of and everyone who works there is super helpful. They have adorable pre-made gifts and you can make your own custom gifts as well- who doesn't want to receive candy? It's great to be able to just grab a snack for yourself or make a gorgeous chocolate box in the same place. When you go you MUST try the half-dipped caramels- they are amazing. I have been coming to the Confectionery ever since I was a little girl. The candy girls are so friendly the second you step in the store and always offer great samples and show off the new products. By far my favorites are their chocolate covered gummy bears that they have in milk, dark and white chocolate. I love this place! It's absolutely adorable. You feel like you're walking into kind of an old-school confectionary. Around the holidays, it's especially fun to visit. They seem to fit so much candy into one spot and have a huge selection. Service is great, everyone is delightful and very helpful. Samples are everywhere if you ask for them. The only thing I wish they would change is their truffles. They are extremely expensive and probably some of the worst I have ever had. Lolli and pops also sells these and just... ew. Stopped in one recent day to grab a few small items to add to some Christmas gifts I was putting together. Chief among these, I was looking for a large candy cane to tape to the top of a package. For some reason, I'd been having a hard time finding one other places I'd looked. But, The Confectionery, as expected, did not let me down. They had a whole counterful of these, in various sizes and flavors. I was able to find exactly what I wanted. But, the real reason I am writing this review is to give a shout-out to the excellent customer service I received there: Although my purchase was small, it was breakable. And, as it was intended a gift, I wanted to make sure it remained in one piece until it was safely in its recipient's hands. I was trying to figure out how to best get it into my purse in a way it would stay safe. The employee who'd waited on me noticed my doing this and offered to bubble wrap my candy cane so it stayed protected! It's little gestures like this that really make a business stand out. A trip to the UVillage is never complete without coming to The Confectionary. I've been coming here for years and I will continue to come here as long as it's here. They have a wide selection of chocolates and candies. Try coming up with one and they probably have it, from truffles with ganache, brittles, caramels... I could go on and on- It's like the Nordstrom version of candy stores whereas The Sweet Factory is the Walmart- hence there is no way to compare the two. Their customer service is next to none. You have a question on what you are purchasing? Try a sample to be sure. The staff is knowledgable and super friendly without being too fake. The selection is always fresh and in impeccable presentation. I have never had a stale piece of candy or chocolate EVER. Although pricier than most candy stores- the art of confectionary that this store brings, the wide selection of chocolates and unique candies makes the experience and price worth it. The quality of the chocolate is decent and offers great taste that you would expect. Nothing in the shop is truly unique or mind blowing unfortunately, however you are bound to get a consistent and decent product whenever you go. This place is good if you are looking for something fancy/unique for yourself or a gift. Prices seemed ok. Frans (also in UVillage) seemed to have higher end chocolates (ask my chocolate snob friend from Belgium), but we picked out a few things. Service was less then stellar. It's a bit crowded and mom's if you insist on carrying your baby around- don't bump into me or the beautiful display- really... She asked if we wanted a bag or a box, she should have reccommended a box, we got so many items the lil bag was full and difficult to carry. I've been coming to The Confectionery since I was a kid and it continues to be my favorite candy store in the Seattle area. Unlike other candy stores which are usually pretty tacky and not well kept, the Confectionery is tidy and everything is displayed very nicely. The girls working there are very helpful, and if you ask about an obscure licorice or even a throw-back candy, they'll know what you're talking about and lead you in the right direction! Their selection is hard to beat, as well as the freshness of the products that they have. Overall, going to The Confectionery is an experience in itself, and can warrant spending upwards of $20 on delicious sour belts and lemon truffles! Yum! read more

I love this little place. I always want to go in and buy everything. They usually run out of the peachy penguins I love though, so that always bums me out, but they have some other tasty finds that I can satiate myself with instead. I do feel like a little kid every time I come in here. All wide eyed and ready to spend my hard earned money. The almond toffee balls are delicious! Walking by I saw saltwater taffy and nearly ran into the window glass. I'm going through a large bag now of assorted flavors as I type. The kids keep asking for some because they ate all theirs, but these are MINE. I love saltwater taffy. Reminds me of Ocean Shores and Atlantic City. Anyway, this is a cute place, done up like an old fashioned candy shop, with lots of big glass jars, lollipops and assorted sugary, diabetic coma inducing goodness. There's chocolate here too, but with Fran's available in U Village, I didn't bother. All I wanted was the saltwater taffy, though I'm getting tired of shouting "Hands OFF!" Damn teenagers. read more

This store is cute and all, with a ton of choices to pick from but like other reviewers stated, it's over-the-top insanely expensive. The service is 50/50. Not exceptional but not the best either. The chocolate isn't really worth the price from all the items that I have tried - some are just gross while others are severely lacking in flavor. My favorite however, is the giant chocolate covered pretzel with peanut butter chips on top but they stopped carrying them or something so without that being offered still, I don't think it's worth shopping there. read more

I think it might be the last privately-owned business in the University Village, and it shows. The shop has a huge selection of different candy, everything from gummy hamburgers to an impressive array of truffles from around the world. The girls that work there are very knowledgeable, and if you are looking for a certain kind of candy, or a certain combination of flavors, etc, they are more than willing to help you find it, and give you some samples to make sure you like what you're taking home. Their selection of decorations, cards, stationery, glass jars and even funky retro lunchboxes also make them unique. I have no idea how you could leave the store without buying something! read more

When I was little, and University Village was mainly QFC (where Restoration Hardware is now) and the shops across from QFC, this was the forbidden candy shop - with its huge glass jars of colorful, foil-wrapped treats and cases of candy I'd never heard of. I wanted so much to spend our errands there instead of in the frozen foods section. Both mom and my allowance said no. The "no" was so loud that it wasn't until a week ago (age 25, thank you) that I visited the Confectionery again. With the benefit of a bigger allowance, I browsed the many varieties of foil-wrapped chocolate hearts (dark, milk, crip rice, with and without words or lollipop sticks), and then inspected the seafoam, dutch mints, caramello, and collector's edition Jelly Belly packs. You can find everything here, and they try to carry what's fresh and in season, too (no salt-water taffy until summertime). After buying mom a box of bordeaux creams for Valentine's, I enjoyed browsing the sexy little designer ribbons and gift bags on display as well. Eat your heart out, Willy Wonka. P.S. The Confectionary loses a star for its customer service, which can be spotty. Mom was right, sometimes it seems like unless I drop $30 on candy I'm not a valued client. read more

Stopped in here for candy for a first birthday knowing I would pay a fortune but thinking it would be delicious. When I got home I set the giant bag of jelly bellys on my counter and the bag split open so I was left to salvage what I could. I got some cute milk chocolate malt balls and they are GROSS! I cannot serve them to my guests. Perhaps they should suggest these serve an exclusively decorative purpose and are not meant to be eaten. Needless to say I am super disappointed and could have bought jelly bellys and saltwater taffy just about anywhere else and saved $$! read more

I love the ambiance of this place! Almost every time I'm in the UVillage, this is a spot I hit. This is what a candy store should look like with beautiful displays filled with people (and kids) eying candies and a large selection of candy from myriad flavors of candy sticks to spicy hot cocoa, from candy necklaces to raspberry chocolate truffles (yummy!). I used to live in Seattle and shopped at The Confectionery quite a bit for shower/party favors, hostess gifts, etc. The owner designed a candy bar for our wedding reception. She had little cellophane bags with stickers with our monogram to close them. The candies were all delicious and matched the decor of the reception. It was a beautiful touch. Now that we live in San Francisco, I have not found a store that can do the unique and high quality gifts that they create. For example, my nephew was in his elementary school play. The Confectionery made him a bouquet of candy that was so cute! It even had chocolate flowers! I also use them a lot for corporate gifts and thank you's and have them shipped. I agree with other posters that this place is not cheap but I think there is really no place that you can compare it to. (I have looked all over SF!) If you are looking for inexpensive candy, there used to be a Bartell Drugs in University Village. If you are looking for high quality, great tasting products that are presented in creative and beautiful ways, this is your place. read more

definitely not my favorite chocolate. It didn't really satisfy my craving, and was way too expensive for the quality. Moreover, when you walk into the store, you are hit with a sickeningly sweet smell. The tacky penny candy kind. and a 2"x2" bag of candy corn was over $2.50.
