My wife and I stumbled upon Bon Bon Candies while exploring Bainbridge Island. As the name implies, Bon Bon Candies sells a wide selection of bon bons. In addition, they also offer a wide variety of "high end" chocolates (that would be perfect as gifts), fudges, and other every day sweets, like jelly beans, sour candies and gummies. My wife and I tried out two bon bons -- a whiskey salted caramel and a strawberry cream one. The flavor in each were very pronounced, the outside shell was crunchy, and the inside was rice and decadent. Definitely had to check out Bon Bon Candies, my husband and I love sweets so we had to grab a couple things for the road trip to Portland. Everyone was so sweet when we entered, I loved the display of homemade fudge and because it was right after Christmas the Holiday sweets were on sale, they even had fudge samples. The fudge was really nice, I'm not much a fudge girly so I opted for some sours and gummies. They also have nostalgic sweets and Swedish candies too. So you just can't pass by this store without stopping in even if you don't buy anything. While visiting the west coast we had a wonderful moseying around Bainbridge. The fudge here is decadent..............not cheap, but if you just let it melt in your mouth it's worth it. And the Marshmallow chocolate covered at $1.50 is a small treat. read more

Seriously the cutest little candy shop! Everyone is really friendly and their confections are so good! We sampled some of their fudge and then got some to take with us on our picnic. Funny how so many remote locations or small towns always have that randomly placed candy shop. Visiting a candy shop wasn't on my itinerary, but it was a welcome coincidence walking into Bon Bon Candies. At the front of the shop, they have a full display of different chocolate and fudge flavors. On each wall of the store, you can find sour candies of all kinds, chocolate covered nuts, and chocolate bars imported from different parts of the world. I walked out of the store buying dark chocolate cashews, rainbow sour strips, and a caramel cashew bar. Nuts and chocolate are an unmatched sweet and savory combo. For the dark chocolate cashews, each mouthful started off with the bitterness and sweetness of the chocolate, ending with a salty crunch from the nuts. I liken the rainbow strips to those of the airheads sour candies, but softer in texture, pleasantly sour, and more delightfully sugary. The caramel cashew bar was quite unique for me. It combined the smoothness of caramel with the creaminess that you get from breaking down the cashew pieces. Honestly, you can't go wrong with many of the selections at Bon Bon Candies. Fantastic service, very friendly. Pretty big place, enough for our family of 5 to move around. My kids immediately ran to the lollipops so our plan of "just here for fudge" didn't work. But man, lollipops are great for long rides home. So on to the fudge: we got the tiger butter, peanut butter chocolate, raspberry chocolate, and mocha. Honestly all were delicious but if I were to do it again, I'd definitely repeat the mocha and the raspberry. My husband doesn't like fruit in chocolate and still liked the raspberry. I am from New Jersey and I recently discovered this website and when I saw all of the great reviews about their fudge, I just had to try it for myself. Well, it was even better than I expected!!! Walking down the street in downtown Bainbridge, you come across a collection of shops, local small business to be sure; and EVERY great small town, needs a sweets shop. It's almost a prerequisite, oh heck, it's a requirement and here it is! It's a cross between retailer of touristy gifts, and hometown, homemade sweet shop. Why does a slightly touristy place get 5 stars? It's the selection, for whatever customer you want to be. If you want to be the crazy tourist, wanting something that represents the Pacific Northwest, why not get a chocolate shaped like a salmon or the Space Needle! If you are the local, they have a wall of hand made, local made treats, from sugar candies, gummies, to chocolates. There are also collections of worldly candies, from around the world. What makes this place even more awesome, besides selling Frans chocolate items; is the scratch made Fudge. Yes, they have amazing fudge here, and a wide variety of flavors, and when the kind salesperson handed me a sample, I was in love... with the candy of course. I walked out with nothing, but the girl had a nice bag of treats, and the Seafoam (Chocolate covered spun molasses) was pretty darn delicious. If you are in Bainbridge, and just shopping around, this place should be in your list to visit and purchase from. Like everything else on the island, Bon Bon is a quaint little somewhat pricey candy shop. The smell of fresh caramel and chocolate makes it impossible to avoid; but this is not the place to skip over while here! They have a fabulous variety of chocolates all local and delicious. I personally love their fudge options and their caramel filled logs that have different nuts and white chocolate. So good! This is a perfect place if you're trying to do some last minute shopping for cute gifts, or if you're looking for something to control your sweet tooth. I love the variety of Fran's chocolates here! I'm a sucker for their sea salt caramels! They also have salt water taffy. I love salt water taffy but they don't have as large of a variety as other places. I'm a fan of retailers that take me back in time to my childhood. Bon Bon Confections is one such business. They have an excellent selection of candy, candy, and more candy! The staff is friendly and smiley, much as I would imagine I would be if I worked in one of the greatest places on earth. The space is very cute and I feel like, well, a kid in a candy store! Growing up, I remember Violet Crumble with a lovely sweet honeycomb surrounded by creamy milk chocolate. Since I was also growing up in Hawaii, it was equally likely that the honeycomb would end up melted and I would have a sticky mess on my hands. So...yes, I bought a bunch of Violet Crumble bars when I was here! The case is stocked with fresh, housemade fudge sold by the pound. Bonus points for selling Fran's, which I love every bit of. They also make their own salt water taffy and stock Cow Tales - chewy caramels with a cream center all bundled in a tiny stick. During my visit, I was in a large group. The chocolates here are good, but the service left something to be desired. The employee who helped me at the fudge counter was a bit rude. They cut slices of fudge and pack them into small boxes. I was hoping to try a few different flavors, but they refused to cut pieces smaller than 1/4 pound, which is really quite large. I've never encountered this restriction at a fudge shop before. What's more frustrating is that I had just watched them cut about 10 tiny slices of different flavors and pack them into a box for the previous customer. When I mentioned this, they brusquely told me that I was mistaken. Maybe they were having a bad day, but it was pretty offputting. read more

What a great shop. Walking down Winslow way you will see GIANT lollipops in the window and nostalgic candies calling your name. The smell of sugar and chocolate wafting out the door will draw you in. A MUST STOP on Bainbridge Island! This local fudge shop offers a varieties of fudges, truffles, and other pre packaged treats. When my friends and I came in the shop keeps were friendly and engaging. They immediately offered us a sample of fudge and were happy to let us try different fudges before we made our selections. There were rotating flavors that featured thin mint and Samoa Girl Scout cookies. Everything i tried was delicious which make my choice difficult - I ended up getting a portion of thin mint and a portion of peanut butter chocolate. While my friends and I were making our selections the shop keeps engaged us in easy conversations - we felt at home at this shop and got recommendations for additional stops on our Bainbridge visit! read more

As far as confectioneries go, Bon Bon is definitely up there. Located on the main drag of Winslow, this chocolate/candy store really delivers a fantastic lineup of sugary treats for very reasonable prices. You'll find all your traditional PNW-exclusive chocolate here (I'm looking at you, Theo's), but that wasn't the main appeal for my group--we all gravitated towards the pay-by-weight licorice and taffy sections pretty much the moment we entered the store. Suffice to say that I have never seen as extensive a black licorice collection in any other confectionery in the US. My boyfriend is half Finnish, and saying that he likes licorice would be an understatement. We picked up a half pound of licorice that tasted very similar to the Panda brand licorice one can find in Scandinavia--delicious! Another friend of ours grabbed a pound of flavored taffy, and that did not disappoint as well. There were a few sampler trays around the store for all customers to try, but the staff are more than willing to let you try a piece or two of the pay-by-weight options before you buy. All in all, I highly recommend this place to anyone with a sweet tooth. read more
