As a new resident to the Port Moody area it's been my mission to find great places to eat and enjoy a cocktail or two. My latest quest has been to find a great "greasy spoon" place that I can hall my ass into after a long Friday or Saturday night. I was recently pointed in the direction of the Coquitlam grill by a friend of mine who lives in the area. Now before I go into the review first let me say that I recently moved out west from Toronto (don't hold that against me) and when I lived in Toronto it was a weekend passion of mine to hunt out small little dives, greasy spoon gold nuggets, in search of the best breakfast. I have been to quite a few and my standards for what deems a greasy spoon worthy of ranking are as follows: 1) Atmosphere - is it a joint, a rustic "Mel's Diner" type 2)Quality - Is the food good? 3)Price - Is it worth the price? Breakfast shouldn't be over $30 for two. 4)Service - Are the people capable of doing their job and can they understand "mumble" which I usually spew early in the morning with no motor skills. So to that end let me say a few words about Coquitlam Grill. Upon first pulling up to this "mall" type location I was saying to myself "great, this is going to suck." The sign out front doesn't leave you saying "wow what a cool little place." I walked in and found myself in a homestyle atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised. The people were friendly and inviting but not to an over-the-top level where you want to smack that chipper little smile of a person's face. So far they were a shocking 2 for 2. I sat down and ordered eggs benny, a true test to how good a greasy spoon is. If the sauce is packaged it's game over. My friends all ordered some version of a traditional breaky, eggs, sausage, home fries etc. The cool thing that impressed me was that the waitress used an iphone to take our order. The restaurant owner created an iphone app for the servers to use that allows them to place orders directly to the kitchen. BRILLIANT. No more screwed up orders. Over all the food was great, the service was excellent and the value was spot on. My breakfast was somewhere in the $8 range. So I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back again. In fact I suggest you go check it out. P.S. - My one beef is this. If you have the smarts to create an iphone app for your restaurant then for god's sake create a friggin website. read more

Just wanted to write an update review, they've really improved the atmosphere of the place. Everything seems like it's been replaced and it has a real classy feel to it now. My father in-law decided to treat us to a dinner out for thanksgiving, so I'm thinking all right; someone is taking us out for dinner and they are paying... So we get here and he announced he organized that we all had our choice of turkey, turkey or turkey. He had arranged a group meal as it turned out. Ha! So, we handed back the menus and all ordered the turkey. Well, when it came wow talk about surprised!!!!! I found the portion very large and I can't remember that last turkey dinner that was that good!!! Everything from the gravy to the mashed was perfect, nice and hot and the bird regardless of white or dark was moist and delicious!!! Plus it came with soup or salad and pumpkin pie and whipped cream... I'm being rolled out of here I'm so full! Seriously, I am thinking I will do a dinner here for my side of the family maybe next year, This was amazing If the rest of their meals are half as good as this dinner was I can't imagine anyone not gushing in a review about this place! And oh ya, the price is very reasonable as well.... Went here to kill some time in the early morning, I don't expect a lot from restaurants, I'm not a demanding customer. Bring my food, refill my tea pot once. I have very simple needs. It started off ok, a friendly fella showed us to the table and got us tea to start and gave us menus. Waitress came and took our orders and food came quickly. Everything seemed promising. ...Except that was the end of any interaction we had with anyone. We watched as the tables behind us, next to us and all around us got coffee refills, got friendly service, got checked on, plates taken away, water brought to them. It wasn't busy in there, there were a few tables, and we were in the middle of the room in plain sight. It's not like they didn't see us looking around trying to get our tea pots filled with a little more hot water, they looked over at us, and walked away. After one lady (not our waitress) came round with a coffee pot, we politely asked for water for our tea, she left and never returned. Eventually, after about 45 minutes we got more water for our tea, had one last cup of tea and then the wait to pay starts. We make every indication that we are ready to leave, even to the point of putting our coats on, but nothing. We sit there like idiots in our coats, holding our debit card while the table next to us pays and leaves, and the table behind us.... Eventually we get up and go to the front counter and wait another 5-10 minutes and the friendly guy comes and finally checks us out. Honestly, I REGRET PAYING. We shouldn't have. And I am annoyed at my Sister for actually leaving a tip that they didn't deserve. Mediocre food, not the worst but nothing to write home about. Service: non-existant read more

For the price and portions the food is great! However, there is a definite lack of service. Not sure how the training process is done but the servers are all short and impersonal. I am not saying this based on minor experience. I actually dine here quite frequently. The server's barely say hello or ask how you're doing, they get to the table after sitting there for quite awhile and just jump straight to asking what we'd like to eat. I don't think I once received a quality check on my food or a refill on my drink, just the delivery of the bill. I had so much respect for coquitlam grill. I loved their BTL sandwich meal.... but today. I was let down. I ordered using Uber eats so the meal would be delivered to my home. This is my go-to breakfast place. No matter when I go, its always busy but the wait is never more then 10 minutes. The restaurant it self is huge. I always order the "French Breakfast" which comes with two french toast slices, eggs, sausage or bacon, and shredded or cubed hashbrowns. Go for the cubed, they are seasoned perfectly. The hosts do most of the work, they take the drink orders, refills, payments, cleaning and the server usually shows up, stares at her tablet to take your order, and leaves. We were in the neighbourhood looking for Breakfast at 12pm with no luck at White Spot. There was a little bit of a wait but we were served drinks within 2 minutes of being seated. I had the trucker's breakfast which was enough for two people so I got it packed to go. There were free coffee refills and 8 different kinds of hot sauce. Will definitely be back! read more

Our family has been going here for coming up to 15 years. It's changed quite a bit over the years, as has the menu, but it is still a pretty consistent experience. We have our favorite waitresses and menu items, but love trying new things like their specials. Depending on when you go and who you get for service, it can be a different experience each time, so do try more than once if you aren't pleased the first time! read more

This spacious, obviously popular restaurant is located in the eagle ridge area near where the old theatre used to be. It's across from Tim Hortons, beside Lordco & near Club16 gym. Parking can be somewhat difficult due to the popularity of these other businesses. The wait staff are usually friendly and professional. We were quickly seated by one of the hostesses and promptly served coffea and tea by one of the bus girls. Our server, Meghan H was extraordinary; lovely, effervescent, charming & very attentive to checking back on us all throughout the meal. Our dinners were generous and hot. My dad had a very light cod and rice while my mom had her usual Salisbury steak loaded with onions. I had a creamy cup of soup as a starter, with my usual BLT and a tossed salad with tomatoes and thousand islands dressing. All the meals came promptly and were delicious. The thing I love the most about the breakfast here is that you get everything, if you want French toast you also get hashbrowns eggs bacon and sausage not just French toast. Went here for a work lunch today. I have to say I was not really expecting much from this place kinda looked a little rundown. But going in the tables and cutlery were very clean. The server was very attentive and quick. The food was okay. Had a burger and fries very hot and fresh. The burger was a frozen patty but still one of the better frozen burgers. I've been here for brunch many times - highly recommend the French breakfast

I originally went back to have their bacon, onion and liver dinner. Tonight is the last dime I give them. That's because waitress hovered only to ask me on my last bite if she could clear my plate for me. I had my mouth filled. Chewing. She hovered some more so with my mouth still filled with food, I pushed my plate towards her and said: "If you must" And, she did. I looked around at how leisurely everyone else was eating their dinners. Lingering. And noticed I was the only person of colour and was left to wonder. I was fed up with wondering and by the time I got to the till to pay my bill she was already with my bill. Weird. I told her that it would be the last time I patronized the Grill because I felt she was pushing me out the door "intentionally," and I didn't like that. She said it wasn't for "that" reason, which made me think it all the more. It's a place with a bad vibe, if a person of colour I'd give it a pass. I got that message! read more

Awesome place to get a good ol' fashioned breakfast. Their lasagna and turkey dinners are also excellent.

This is a great family restaurant. There are so many options to choose from on the menu and almost everything we have had heere has been great (the crusted Halibut was only OK so I would not recomment it). The garlic bread is awsome and I also have a hard time choosing between the ceasar salad and fries because they are both great! I've been to Coquitlam grill twice now and haven't be satisfied with either of those visits. The first time I ordered the stir fry. It was cold. It's a vegetarian dish so I expected a lot of veggies. Got maybe 3 pieces of broccoli. But I did get a bunch of onions and other less-favourable vegetables. Had barely any noodles or sauce in the dish as well. Generally lacked flavour. Was also salty as mentioned in a lot of other reviews. Today was my second visit. Ordered a veggie pizza this time as I wasn't satisfied with the stir fry. I put my hand over it to check if it was warm and it was this time. Genuinely surprised. Still did not eat the food due to the fact that it was mainly topped with onions. Onions aren't most people favourite so they might as well just remove them from the recipe. After the rest of the group I was wish finished eating for the most part, a waitress came over and asked if there was something wrong with the food. Instead of being rude I just said I wasn't hungry, which wasn't a lie because I ate before I came. Not too long after the waitresses asked if we would like strawberry or chocolate sundaes. I opted for the chocolate but didn't receive it. Ended up eating someone's else unwanted ice cream. The waitress walked past me several times, saw me, but still did not bring me my sundae. She asked if everyone had one and I said I didn't get one yet. Still didn't get one. read more
