Restored my faith in good bbq the cornbread is nostalgia one of the best I've had in a while and the combination of the pulled pork with potato salad is amazing. This is a must try the service was great and super quick. I don't think we waited more than 3 minutes before it was all ready and even though we did takeout the atmosphere was fun light and classic. 10/10 read more

Hell yeah bbq ! Was my first thought. Well I may have jumped the gun on that. So I've seen some reviews it's in the area where I work and I love bbq. So I was in the area on my day off and was super stoked to check out this spot. First customer of the day so everything should be absolutely perfect! I ordered a brisket sandwich and the pork belly appy. The brisket was dry ! Yes dry for being the first customer of the day that thing should have been juicy as all heck. Sadly not the case, now my radar is up and I'm extremely sceptical now. So I try the pork belly, they smoke it then they deep fry it ! Yes you read that correctly deep fried pork belly after it's been smoked. For $34 I was greatly disappointed, I get it times are tough taxes are at an all time high. There's buggery afoot at every turn. But my word I can do a much better job at home no joke. I swear eating out nowadays isn't worth it . Will I go back not a chance I rather go to Costco or a butcher shop by my own cuts of meat and do it at home. No I recommend the place sure if you can't cook and you crave some bbq there's not very many options in the lower mainland for brick and mortar restaurants. It came with ribs, pulled pork, roast chicken, beef brisket, large fries, 4 sides (beans, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad) and cornbread. We walked on and new instantly thats what we wanted for dinner it smelled so good, definitely worth the wait for a table. 3 of us got the combo plates with ribs. 2 of our ribs were amazing and 1 order unfortunately were not so great end pieces. Food came out super quick, the fries were excellent. Cole slaw... not so much. Our waitress was really friendly. We asked for butter for our cornbread and she brought out the individual serving packets in a dish of warm water so we'd be able to spread it easily. I didn't get to try their Burgers and yes, that seems weird when eating at a place called Burgers Etc BBQ House. I guess I decided to go with the Etc BBQ. The husband and I shared the smoked chicken platter. It was good, but I wouldn't say the most amazing BBQ in the city. The chicken was moist and it came with fries and an additional side, which was macaroni salad for us. My favorite part was probably the fries. Crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. A great alternative to Memphis Blues, Parking is plentiful along Hastings, as well as the side streets. The inside is definitely hipster-like, with maroon instruments attached to the walls, and beaten up wooden furniture. Staff are friendly. As with most other BBQ places, the food is definitely a few bucks more. My friend and I went all out with the BBQ sampler ($46). 6 types of meat, with fries and 2 sides. Ribs, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, beef brisket, wings/drumsticks on a skewer, and sausages. For the sides we had coleslaw and mac & cheese. Everything hit the spot. One thing I particularly like is that they went somewhat easier on the salt. Really wish more restaurants would follow this trend. We left stuffed. This thing delivers. I wish I got to try this place sooner and my experience at Burgers Etc blew me away. BBQ ribs were the main reason that I went and luckily there was today's special to meet my BBQ craving. Today's special consists of 2 meats (ribs, pulled pork, BBQ chicken and sausage) with fries and salad for $14.99. Price was definetely reasonable and the portion was big. Food came out fresh. Meats were tender and delicious. Fries and salad were also delicious. Server was helpful when I asked for more BBQ sauce. I heard that new owners took over a few months back but this my first time back since last summer. The bbq has definitely improved since. Previously, the bbq wasn't bad but wasn't really anything to write home (or here) about. This time the takeout ribs were meatier and really nicely done, staying moist and tender. I generally hate bbq chicken as it often comes out dry, but their chicken was moist and glistening with the pink from the smoking. The beans and cornbread were solid, and the fries, even thought they sat in a closed box for the quick drive home were still crispy, yet tender still inside due to being a thicker cut. Lastly, the two meat dinner is a pretty great deal as far as bbq goes and the box was fries was huge for the $4, so plenty of value on top of being really solid bbq. If you've experienced any true BBQ in the American South then you should understand that the food here, while tasty and served by a very decent staff, is more of an homage of that than a true equal. They do the standard BBQ menu items: pulled pork, pork ribs, brisket, sausage, and chicken. They offer very reasonable prices and a fair portion for what you pay. I've been coming here for years ( when they first opened as Burgers Etc. ) and the best decision they made was to reduce the number of items on the menu. This enabled the kitchen to focus on higher quality for a smaller number of dishes. As a result, the food has become more consistent. I would recommend this place if you're in the area and just want some BBQ style meat. The food is good enough, the prices are fair, and the staff are really nice. Good neighborhood joint. read more

The Butchers Block BBQ was always one of those restaurants we walked by and said we should try one day. Finally, we made it in to try their delicious selection of BBQ meats. If you like BBQ, this one should definitely be on your list. Like many popular establishments on Hastings, they suffer from too much demand for their seating capacity at peak times. We had to wait about 20-25 minutes for a table. When you walk in they have a clipboard you can put your name on. The clipboard does ask if your entire party is there, as they would probably frown upon one person reserving for a group for any length of time. We will come back here again, so we may figure out when their non-peak times are so we can sneak in without the wait! The owner himself was there at the time. It feels like he is probably there a lot which is a good thing. You could tell he had a steely eyed determination to make sure his customers were pleased, especially with the food. They asked us a number times how it was, even though it was pretty obviously amazing! OK, so the food. We ordered a few things, beef brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. I normally don't like beef brisket, but this beef brisket was almost my new favourite thing, it was just that good. The ribs were on a whole new rib level. A lot of restaurants claim their ribs are "fall off the bone" delicious, but the Butchers Block BBQ delivers and then some. The pulled pork was just as great. We also ordered iced teas, which you might think is not worth mentioning, but I am pretty sure they brew their own iced tea and lemonade and it is probably the best iced tea I've had at any restaurant ever. A fairly decent BBQ at a fairly decent price. While I wouldn't say this place is among the best in Vancouver, it's certainly an enjoyable place to eat at if one is craving BBQ meats such as brisket, pulled pork, etc. A few days ago, I went with some friends for the first time to satisfy such a craving and I am happy to say that it did a decent job at satisfying said craving. Fair pricing, fast and friendly service, a simple, yet intriguing dining atmosphere, and good food are all present here. On this occasion, I ordered the two meat meal special which included a handful of pulled pork, four ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, and a small block of cornbread, all for just under $18.00 before taxes. I also had a bottled rootbeer which was also pretty nice - reminded me of the same taste as A&W rootbeer, which I didn't mind. One of my friends ordered the same food, but opted for the bottomless lemonade drink at $2.50 which, in hindsight, I should have went for instead of the rootbeer. In short, the food and drinks were solid, but I gotta say that the star of the meal was a split for me, between the surprisingly good cornbread (which was later revealed by the servers to be made by the local bakery across the street) and the pulled pork which I found to be tender and made to perfection in-house. The ribs were not perfect for me - I would have liked to see the meat fall off the bone a little more, but the taste was fine. The beans were actually really good and I was happy they weren't too much like soup. The coleslaw was average and needed more flavor as it was a bit bland. Overall, this is a great place to eat! Found this site on my computer so we tried it this week, was very disappointed in the food, my ribs and chicken looked good but were dry with not much sauce and had a hard time chewing them. The chicken looked real good but again hard time cutting into it. After telling the waiter, she brought another dish of ribs but they were not different. Okay, I admit it. I'm drooling just thinking about their beef brisket! It's soooo goood. I have it EVERY time I'm there. It's mouthwatering. We came for a dinner on Thursday. It was around 7 PM (they close at 8 PM) and it was just us and one more table. It was chill. I reunited with my fav beef brisket sandwich with a side of green salad ($11.95). One side is included. My husband went for a platter which comes with 2 types of meat, fries and coleslaw. ($16.99) He chose BBQ chicken & pulled pork. Food was amazing. We flushed it out with a bottomless lemonade. It's house-made and it tastes good - not too sour, not too sweet. If you don't drive, have a beer. They have always something on special or just try a craft beer. Also try a milkshake, really good. Over the course of few years, we have tried almost everything, even the burgers that are now off the menu. (I think this was a smart decision, the combo platters are their main feature.) Service is consistent and friendly. The owner seems to care and he is often present, working. My only complaint is the new branding. It's all true - this place slaps the meat between the buns better than just about any place in town. And what about that meat? I haven't actually ordered a hamburger, just stolen bites from the husband's plate (he's good like that). The patty is perfectly tender and tasty, the best I've had that wasn't made by my Dad. I like the offerings from the BBQ side of the menu, like melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork sandwiches with sweet n' smoky BBQ sauce and big juicy Italian sausages that take a little strategizing to eat, but are well worth the effort. This is a tiny place, with the smell of barbecue and grilled meat that fills up the red-and-black room and makes my tummy growl and my taste buds go poing. That's why I'm making it my review no. 500: it's completely milestone-worthy. The only drawbacks are the sides. I really haven't found anything spectacular on non-meat side of my plate - the beans are bland, and the fries taste a little prefab. Fresh-cut fries, for example, would make an already amazing burger meal really sing. But they get it so right with the thick and creamy milkshakes (which can be boozed up), and a nice selection of red wines that go well with barbecue and don't pretend to be all fancylike. Totally acceptable BBQ. Something that's hard to find in the Vancouver area. The meats are very, very, VERY succulent. Fall-off-the-bone ribs. Melt-in-your-mouth brisket. Nice multi-dimensional sauce. I just wish the meats were just a BIT smokier and flavourful. There should be a bit more seasoning or smoke added during the slowcookery, methinks. The sides are hit and miss. The beans are okay... not the best in town but they have some meaty lumps... think of a GOOD can of pork and beans. The corn is just warmed up niblets. The fries are super. And the chipotle mayo on the side is stellar. The cornbread could be the best I've ever had. Definitely worth a couple bucks. Very flavourful bbq-ed meats!! Smaller location with limited tables. We got lucky as we came in at about 5pm, and there was a bike race going on today on their street so many roads were closed off which made this place a bit difficult to access. I got the "Beef Dip Sandwich" with fries and gravy. The sandwich was delicious! And although the au jus that comes with beef dip sandwiches are supposed to be on the salty side, I found this one a tad too salty. My boyfriend got their daily feature item which consisted of "BBQ Chicken, Pulled Pork, with Fries, Coleslaw, and Corn Bread" for $16.99. From his feature, the pulled pork was just delicious! The meat literally melts in your mouth. The corn bread was: meh. His brother got the "Beef Brisket Sandwich" and with the macaroni salad. The sandwich came with lettuce and tomatoes as well. This was one of the most delicious Burger Joints we've been to! We were visiting from Seattle and staying at the Howard Johnson hotel down the street. We happened to jump on Yelp and found that this place had good reviews. People weren't exaggerating about the deliciousness of the food!! I had a grilled onion and cheddar burger with fries and my boyfriend had a bacon cheeseburger with brisket vegetable soup. The burgers were large, juicy and delicious, the fries were flavorful and lightly dusted with some sort of yummy seasoning, and the soup had a smokey and amazing flavor and was so thick it was more like a stew...so good!! It's a small, cozy little restaurant and the staff were really nice and conversed often with us at our table. They only take Canadian debit cards or cash and we didn't have either but they let us know there was an ATM literally right across the street, very convenient! I have been coming here for a few years so should review. My standard order at Butchers is the two meat combo with ribs and brisket or ribs and pulled pork. You choose two meats out of a variety. Order comes with a side of fries and coleslaw. They also have little extras you can get like corn bread and bottomless lemonade or Ice tea, baked beans, and you can get your bbq meats with a Salad if you like as well. They used to have Burgers but eliminated them to focus on BBQ. I recently returned and they have started making them again on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Look forward to having one soon as they are amazing. I really love the ribs here. They are perfectly cooked. Not too tough and not too soft. Personally I am not a big fan of mushy or overly cooked ribs. I like to feel I am actually eating like a carnivore and get some resistance but not so much its too tough. I feel they cook it just right. Seasoning is not overly powerfull too. Brisket is also very good as well. The other items like sausage and chicken are nothing to write home about but I know some people are a fan. Service has always been friendly and homey. I think as others might have commented, they need to work on their sides a bit like perhaps improving the quality of fries, offering rice once in a while or maybe something else. My favorite BBQ place in the city. Their ribs are absolutely fantastic - tender and flavourful. I can't have the sauce because of a wheat allergy, but the rub they use for them is so delicious I don't feel like I need it. The pulled pork and brisket are other favorites, always done to perfection! They also have really really good fries, salad, and there's is the only coleslaw I actually like. But good food aside, the thing that really makes this place is the people. I think I told them my food allergies once and they have remembered for years and are always very knowledgeable about the ingredients so I have never once gotten sick. I feel like they have a lot of pride in the food they serve and that they really value their customers. I know every time I go in I will get good service from wonderful people. Nice casual atmosphere but there was no heat. Had to eat with jackets and toques. Place looks beat up but goes with a rib place. Floor felt greasy which to me indicates how dirty a place is. A new waitress that they have there told us we could not join 2 single tables together for the 3 of us even though others had and explained "im sorry it's father's day we a really busy" Ya no kidding it's father's day. That's why I'm here and you clearly cannot understand basic geometry to see that 3 of their plates would not fit on that table so why even give us that table?!?!? Had to leave. The smell of this place when you walk in is enough to make your mouth water. They are not messing around. The selection of meats and sides was great. Between myself and my dinner date on our combo platters we tried Smoked Italian Sausage, Smoked Chicken Wings, Brisket, Smoked Chicken and Ribs. All of which we had absolutely nothing but great things to say. They were all flavourful and still juicy. The sides we tried were Pasta Salad, Baked Beans and Garden Salad, the Beans and Pasta Salad were great the garden Salad was slimy and disgusting. They offer bottomless iced tea and/or lemonade for 2.99 a person which seems like a good deal until you get it and realize it is the powdered kind mixed in juice pitchers.
