I had a fantastic experience this summer buying my first coop apartment with Michelle Sedlitz's help. Like for many others, the few times I'd browsed listings in the past, I've come across realtors that I couldn't see myself working with due to personality differences (I can't work with someone that doesn't get back to me in a timely manner) or I was discouraged because the realtor would tell me that I couldn't find what I was looking for in my price range. But given how much mortgage rates dropped, the value proposition in buying vs renting really changed for me this year and I thought I'd give it another try. The first email I got from Michelle after we spoke on the phone had all the information I needed on buying a coop versus a condo and I referred to that frequently in the months that followed. She was so prepared for the most novice of homebuyers. Meanwhile, I was still looking for things I had grown accustomed to in renting - east side Manhattan (but not UES), high floor, sunlit, great view, near a train, upgraded kitchen and bathroom, doorman building, safe area... and I wanted it for a lower monthly outflow than my rent. Michelle never discouraged me on the possibility of finding it, and we did! And her guidance, relationships and persistence helped us get it. She was always available for questions, even late night. I'm not sure Michelle sleeps. She responded to texts and emails within an hour, or at worst within a few hours. She was also very patient with me through my own impatience with many parts of the process (in all honestly, buying a coop is a terribly inefficient process that sucks all the hope out of you if you're a meticulous person but Michelle's encouragement helped me stick it out, like someone cheering on a marathon runner). She followed up with everyone to make sure our application was always on track, and we ultimately closed a little under 3 months after being in contract. I NEVER felt Michelle was just a realtor looking for the commission, she was more like a very experienced friend helping us through the process. I really appreciated this first experience buying a coop and now I'm really happy in my new home and so glad we went through it. read more

This is for Karen Kemp. We were extremely displeased with the way we were treated by Ms. Kemp. Admittedly she does more commercial real estate--this seemed to be a departure to do a private home. Even so, relationships are relationships. My first (non) encounter with her was the day our inspector was set to come and do a walk-through. Karen needed to be there to let us in. She told our broker she was stuck in traffic--would be there soon. An hour went by. Our inspector had another job to go to and couldn't stay any longer. We were charged $450 (half of his rate). That would have been frustrating enough, but we assumed we'd get an apology from her and an offer to refund us. We were in for a surprise. My partner and I were on the subway when we got a text from our broker, who had waited for her to arrive (over an hour late). Not only did she not apologize, she was livid that we had left. When we asked to reschedule she said forget it--we needed to let her know if we wanted the house by Monday (it was Friday) or she would go with the next buyer, even though we had had a verbal agreement. This incident was not isolated. It typified our entire experience with her. I never write reviews like this, but I'm doing so for two reasons. 1, most importantly, anyone thinking of working with her--or Corcoran--should know the way she does business. 2, I think there are consequences in this world for the way you behave. Jaime Fuest was sooooo incredibly helpful during our search. She is extremely knowledgeable about the market and knew the ins and outs of every apartment we saw. After a grueling search dealing with money hungry brokers whose only concern was to sell an apartment, my husband and I were lucky to find Irene! She showed us an apartment in Jackson Heights and I was instantly in love with it and the landlord. She taught us about the importance of building a connection between the landlord and tenant. She worked hard to build that connection in one day through deep conversation and going through our paperwork to show we were qualified candidates! My husband was not convinced, because of his allergy as a child to carpets and so we turned the apartment down. I was heartbroken! Irene called us back about two days later and told us the landlord would remove carpets from the living room. My husband still being stubborn and traumatized from his childhood allergy was not convinced and wanted all carpets removed to which the landlord could not comply. I was devastated, witnessing my devastation and dealing with pregnancy hormones my husband thought about the beautiful apartment that will be a perfect home for our new family and instantly called Irene. Even though there were other people on the line for the apartment, Irene worked hard to make sure we got all our paper work in and wrote an email detailing our passion for the apartment. We move in on August 1st and I couldn't be more thrilled! I am only sad the process is over because in the brief time of knowing Irene, I became attached to her positive energy and happy vibe.
