What a lousy experience. We walked in and headed upstairs to the bar. A hostess (or a server) on the first floor shouted at us to come back downstairs and made a rude gesture . We've been there MULTIPLE times before and seating at the bar has always been first come first serve. She spoke to us as though we'd never been to a bar before and was exceedingly rude. As she stomped up the stairs past us, we decided that we didn't want to frequent a place where we didn't even receive a polite hello upon walking in the door. Cute place with hearty food welcomed after a hike in the Squam Lake's Mount Percival and Mount Morgan loop trail. Service: friendly and super fast. Our food was out without 15 minutes of ordering Menu: We ordered the lobster mushroom bisque and French onion soup, burger with onion rings, fish and chips, zucchini bread, and garden salad to share. The bisque was thick and generous with chunks of lobster in the middle in some sort of sherry sauce- my favorite. The burger was juicy but not particularly tender, and the haddock was flaky and crisp. A bit disappointed there was only a thin breading on the fish but the fries were great. The Corner House is a great restaurant with welcoming staff that make you feel like family. It didn't take long for the barstaff to remember our names (we visit a couple times a month) and even our drink orders, and our preferred seats at the bar. Our family of 4 adults selected this restaurant for Easter dinner. We hadn't been here in several years - but had enjoyed it previously and looked forward to dining there again. I wasn't aware it had changed ownership a couple of times since our last visit. Dinner started out with a brand new waitress/server, who was noticeable new, but was very nice and we weren't in a hurry. We understand the service industry and that training is required, she was very pleasant. Three of us ordered the prime rib special and one had salmon. We ordered the prime rib cooked medium and all three came out well done. The meat was tough and we weren't sure it was even a prime rib cut of meat. The sides were mashed potatoes and green beans - the green beans were not fresh (either canned or frozen). The meals were very disappointing. We brought our leftovers home to feed to our dogs... The lucky one in our party that ordered the salmon off of the regular menu had the better meal by a mile, but it wasn't anything special. Finally, the dessert ordered to go was found to be STALE that evening. As we were eating appetizers a person came out to check on us, and turned on a music system nearby as it was very quiet at the time. I am not sure what the source of the music was, but it was completely inappropriate for dinner. It was very distracting and annoying, but tolerable for a while. Eventually, there was a song that came on with such offensive language, I had to get up and find someone to ask to turn the music off. I was embarrassed to have dinner with my parents and significant other when I heard "suck my d%$*" in the lyrics to a song! And on Easter Sunday! The only thing two of us truly enjoyed were the drinks, in particular the lemon drop martini, and the Earthquake Cabernet Sauvignon, and the special crab stuffed mushroom appetizer (not the ones on the regular menu.) Finally, there was a credit card surcharge added to the bill - which was over $300!! We are not opposed to paying for an expensive meal if the quality of the food is commensurate. Fine dining in a comfy, relaxed atmosphere. A gem in the tiny town of Sandwich NH. This is the perfect place to cap off your day sight seeing, hiking, kayaking, etc. Food was DELICIOUS, staff friendly and attentive. The Corner House is a charming restaurant and bar in the quaint little hamlet of Sandwich NH just north of Lake Winnipesaukee. Everything about The Corner House is understated except the menu. After some soul-searching, I decided on the calamari with sweet Tai chili sauce and my bride ordered the chili. Both were exceptional. The star were very friendly and attentive. Better signage over the entrance from the parking area is the one thing that would help more visitors to Sandwich discover their spot. read more

We like the downstairs, upscale old New England inn vibe. More casual upstairs. Same eclectic menu. Great cocktails, good food! I had the macaroni and cheese with fresh baked chicken and steamed broccoli! Very good. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Like every where, less staff present so pretend you're in Europe and practice patience while having a slower, relaxing and very enjoyable dining experience. We had a party of 3 and went upstairs to the bar area. They have had extensive work done and it's roomy, cozy and a pleasant atmosphere. We had apps which were incredible and we had Moose Tracks and a Fiddle Head ipa. Our server was polite and attentive. I will go back and hopefully sit at their corner nook or bar. Looks fun. Cute restaurant in a historic house in the center of town. A bit short staffed due to covid, which seems common in the area currently, and can create long wait times. An interesting range of offerings, from fish tacos to poutine to chicken tikka masala. Unfortunately, the food offered more to be desired - the cauliflower bites were more breading than cauliflower, and were drowning in sauce. The tacos were under sauced, under seasoned, and under filled - also served a bit cold. Thankfully, they have a wide selection of cocktails, wine, and beer to distract you from the food....! read more

**This is for July 2020. Policies may have changed since.** My boyfriend and I ate outside- everything was safe! The patio is a beautiful spot and it was nice and quiet, even with all full tables. People were eating inside but it was maybe a party or 2. There was sanitizer and masks could be provided, and all the staff had masks on. One thing to note- the menu was hard to read online, so I took pictures and posted it here. Cocktails were tasty, my lobster ravioli came with a bunch of additional lobster meat, and the fries (sweet potato and regular) were crispy and delicious! Everything tasted great and was priced fairly- the portions were large. Every table around us had lemon bomb cake for dessert but we were stuffed, so we skipped the obviously delicious dessert. The only thing that might benefit from change (and I'm sure you can do it if requested) is the basket the Fish N Chips is served in. It was a little too small for the generous portion and a plate would have made cutting it a hair easier. A perfect date spot! read more

Visited on a Tuesday night before the theater at Barnstormers. Not very busy but decided to sit at the bar for a quick bite and drinks. Hostess was very pleasant and the atmosphere and ambiance were perfect. Mood quickly changed when bartender welcomed us (seemed tired and ready to go home) at 6:00pm. This was our first visit to this restaurant so first impression is everything. Ordered wine and a few appetizers. Service was fast but again, mood was negative. Bartender and waitstaff continued negative chat. Might expect this at a lesser restaurant but this place was not cheap so expected a good vib. Perhaps offering bread basket or asking if we wanted another drink would have been nice. We ended up just handing bartender our credit card, paying and leaving. Food was okay. This is a cozy old inn. The waitstaff was very nice. The food wasn't very good. We ordered appetizers that were ok. The salads were good. The main course was baked haddock, mashed garlic potatoes & carrots. The haddock was served swimming in some liquid that washed over the fish & the crumb topping. It was unappetizing to look at & it was pretty much tasteless. The potatoes didn't seem to have any garlic in them & we had to send them back because they were barely warm. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Came here a couple years ago wasn't the best, came back because sometimes ppl have bad nights. Never got food. I am not kidding. Had a reservation, never got food, the manager came out and tried to say sorry but did it in a condescending way. Then proceeded to get mad we were upset with the service and say "what more would you want" IDK food In all honesty people and restaurants have bad nights, but this manager was not apologetic at all. Really like the changes to the upstairs at The Corner House! Large u-shaped bar really opens up the environment. My brother and I had a light dinner at the bar and the drinks, food and service were all well done. The energy was good and folks were friendly and chatting with others they didn't know as a result of the revised layout. If you haven't been in a while, check it out. I will be back soon. Very disappointed. I ordered steak tips which I was assured were very tender. Not only were they far from tender, but they were lukewarm. Extremely unappetizing. The mashed potatoes had large chunks of undercooked potatoes in them, and the zucchini and summer squash mix was sad and tasteless. I had requested rocks on the side with my raspberry cosmopolitan, and there were 3 melted cubes in the shaker when it arrived. No bread and butter before the meal and just a very underwhelming dining experience. It was great a few years ago and I think the old menu was still showing up online because we were all excited about the many other menu choices that were not available when we arrived. The Corner House is off the beaten path, it is one of those hidden gems the locals love but don't want to be too open about. Because nothing wrecks a meal faster than sitting adjacent to some ass hat from Mass-of-two-sh.... complaining incessantly about every detail or that the food isn't up to par with x-y-or z stupid place that they're used to eating in their snob Mecca. Yes congratulations, you live in an area with 3 restaurants on every corner and they're willing to cater to your artificially inflated sense of self importance because...they need the business... Corner House Review: First off, The Corner House is locally owned. It's not a part of a chain of restaurants owned by out of staters who are striving for restaurant monopoly in NH...cough cough (common man). The owner lives locally, is invested in the community, and is physically present in the restaurant. She took the time to come greet me, talk with me, and was very interested in my feedback regarding the food and overall experience. That is extremely rare. When I first arrived I was greeted and warmly welcomed, I was taken directly to a seat (granted I did come on a Wednesday) I ordered calamari, and Corner House salad to start. The presentation was excellent. Very appealing plating. The calamari was outstanding! Crisp, flavorful, and not oily. My only input here be to explore other dipping sauces such as an aioli, or perhaps a sweet spicy Thai pepper sauce. The salad was incredibly crisp and fresh, and an eye popping portion. Flavors were extremely well balanced between the Gorgonzola, cranberries, and walnut. The maple vinaigrette was just the right amount to flavor but not overpower. Extremely well done. For my entree, I enjoyed the strip steak Med rare. It was prepared perfectly, impeccable temperature. . The Demi glaze was very smooth and complemented extremely well bringing a sweet contrast to the perfectly grilled carbonaceous accent to the beef. Excellent meat quality. Very tender and perfectly trimmed. The mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery, and tasted like moms. Not the pasty instant potatoes that other more "high end" restaurants in nearby areas (Meredith) sneak onto your plate thinking you're too buzzed on the pre meal aperitif to notice. Regarding staff, all were kind, attentive, and very eager to provide a wonderful dining experience on all accounts. As stated earlier, the owner even took the time to greet me, inquire about my experience, and welcome me back. This is a restaurant that truly stands out in New Hampshire. I have noticed the negative reviews below, and would say this; The one thing that this restaurant has as a specific and unique challenge, is that it is located in an area serving a transient seasonal population. Many of these people are pathologically self-centered. They spend much of their painful existence stewing in the despair of perpetual discontentment and irrational expectations. They are profoundly miserable, and the only means they have of entertainment or joy is attempting to draw others into their maelstrom of self loathing. And, since they don't live locally, they feel that they can spout off on the internet whatever irrelevant thoughts come to mind because they have no accountability and no local investment. These people are pathetic, and they are a blithe to our communities , and their opinions should be valued as such. The Corner House is outstanding. It is an absolute asset to the community. Dined here for the first time last night. Everything was fantastic. My husband had a scallop risotto special that was delicious, daughter had a venison special that she loved. I had the tips and they were super tender, great portions. Calamari app was a good amount of breading and crispy but tender on inside. Finished off w a creme brûlée. Yum. Just the worst restaurant I've ever been to. terribly managed, staff is slow and non responsive and the owner seems to think they don't need the business she complains about. the owner who is also the bartender consistently complains about customers and people who call with questions. We just discovered this place. It was in between where our friends were staying in ME and us. I found it via an online search. I made our reservations online and guessed at "upstairs". I was hoping for a regular table rather than at a bar, and that's what we got. The four of us very much enjoyed our dinners. The boss and our friend got the special bisque and both thought that it was delicious. I was disappointed that they served Pepsi over Coke soft drinks. C'est la vie. My only issue was that the dining room was warm and stuffy. I saw that there were both a wall A/C unit and a split unit. That they were off made me think that they weren't working. Either someone requested that the A/C be turned on or the staff waited until there were more patrons before doing so. I guess that I should have said something. Oh, yum! We went with some friends on a beautiful evening and sat on the patio. The atmosphere was perfect, and the mosquitoes didn't show til the plates were cleared. We did apps and dinner outside and then went up into the pub for dessert. All of the food was delicious! The polenta was ordered after I read all of the rave reviews, and we were NOT disappointed. Yum! The cranberry haddock, chicken parmesan, burger with portabello, Tuscan salad, fries and onion rings were all gobbled up with nothing but grunts and moans for conversation. Special note for the fries and onion rings. Two different seasonings, both delicious. The onions were super sweet too. I would head up to the pub and order those with beers and dessert. Sometimes the happy is worth the fat. This is one of them. The key lime pie is tart and the tiramisu is dense and creamy. I'm not sure why I only gave 4 stars to Corner House Inn last time I was here. Maybe because it was a first time visit and I am hesitant to give out 5 star ratings (look at my stats and you'll see). We went here for a family dinner and I was very impressed both by the quality of service and the extraordinarily good food. Enjoyed the local 603 beer. Lobster salad potato skins - heavenly! Lobster and mushroom bisque - exquisite! Seafood saute (lobster, scallops, shrimp) - delicious! Their house buttermilk-dill salad dressing is delicious. Between the appetizer, soup, salad, and entree, it was divine. My only regret was that I didn't save room for dessert. My wife pretty much had to put me on my side and roll me out of the restaurant. read more

The Corner House is open again -under new management but with much the same menu as before. My husband and I went there for lunch today and it was fabulous. I had the fish sandwich and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. Both were really delicious with excellent house made tartar sauce and barbecue sauce. The rest of the menu looked great and we'll be going back very soon for dinner. The dessert was excellent but the The Creamery is also there in the front area of the restaurant serving their well known delicious Ice cream. It's very sad to see how badly run the Corner House Restaurant has become. The kitchens priority appears to be given to the upstairs bar instead of the main level dining room as they were obviously short staffed and continuously told us our meals would be coming up shortly. Our party of 6 was first told that our drinks and appetizers were complementary after our meals failed to arrive after two hours. We finally left after waiting for THREE HOURS. After enjoying Corner House for decades, we all agreed to never dine here again. read more

We were there on a Friday night in June and noticed we were one of two couples in the bar. When we saw the menu we saw that the ownership had changed. Stopped for lunch after hiking. Sat on the gorgeous patio. Pub menu. Crab cakes are a 10+! Pure crab with very little filler. So good. The veggie quesadilla was surprisingly tasty, crispy and loaded with cheese--the cheddar they use along with the Monterey Jack has great flavor. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent--tender and juicy and flavorful, and the chicken Ceasar wrap was good. The fries were amazing. Great start to this new venture! This place is one of my go to favorites, cozy atmosphere, and great food. the bar and seating on the second floor is where I go usually. although the regular table seating is cozy also. haven't had anything bad here. sometimes the service is slow depending on how busy it is. it can get crowded and a bit noisy but worth the trip always have fun there. the onion soup is fantastic! read more

Our server, Zach was wonderful. He was attentive and friendly. The food was mediocre at best. This is not fine dining. The calamari was more fried dough than calamari. Went to the corner house on a whim the other night and was not disappointed. As i understand it the establishment had changed hands and we were curious how the menu changed. It was a well rounded menu with options for all. The pork belly app. is awesome! All the food was really good. Only hang up I had was the "hand-cut garlic parmesan fries" were not hand cut. They weren't horrible, just from frozen is never as good as hand cut. Would defiantly recommend and we will be there more often read more

Was told to come with a larger party prior to 6 and we'd be fine. Arrived at 530 and the hostess told us the kitchen couldn't handle the "load" of 6 adults and two children. Was forcibly turned away with a 4yr and 2yr old instead of merely letting the kids eat first and the adults a little later. Ok atmosphere, menu was an odd combination of fancy and low-beat? Nothing "wowed" me about the food. Not bad but not memorable either, nothing I'd go back for. Their quesadillas was way overpriced, I mean come one it's just quesadillas. Comes with olives although it never states on menu. Being I despised olives I just scraped off, and that was a pain being they filled it to the rim with them. Comes with a VERY BLAND guacamole on the side too. Overly priced for subpar food masquerading as fancy. Nah, never going back there. read more
