Cozy. Hometown vibes. this restaurant should be in a Hallmark christmas movie. Manager Mike was SO NICE he even helped me put my coat on at the end of the night hahaha. our server Becky was really kind. all of the food was fabulous, comforting. spinach, artichoke dip was particularly good for an appetizer. our table had baked haddock, Alfredo pasta, chicken, Parm, baked potatoes, and the seafood risotto. we loved everything we had! This was our first visit to this restaurant but it's easy to see why it's been in business for almost 50 years. We started the evening with drinks at the outside bar. Our bartender Kyle was friendly and attentive, but we did choose to eat inside due to the cooling weather. We were seated at a high top booth in the bar area. This room was warm and inviting. Our waitress Danielle was outstanding.. We got the baked stuffed haddock and jambalaya. Both dishes were well done and delicious. Went in for lunch on a sunday, John was our waiter and he was great! Had drinks , salads and for my meal i had Filet Oscar! Was lil dry but other wise very good, the bernaise sauce made it perfect! Three of us had the "Prime" Rib last night night and it was tough and tasteless. Steak knife wouldn't cut it, we had to saw through. They clearly sell USDA Select grade meat which is the lowest grade that can legally be sold but of course they sell it at a premium price. Hidden gem!!! If you are in the area you must stop for a cozy dinner! They have great comfort food dishes with large portions. The owner is extremely hospitable, welcoming & accommodating. Came for dinner last night and had a wonderful meal and evening. Decor: Country tavern - homey and comfy Service: exceptional! Ryan was so good at his job and made us feel at home. always on top of our needs but not pushy! Food: We got the rustic flatbread as an appetizer, soooo good simple and so much flavor. Hubby got the steak tips, a bit overcooked from his likes but still super tender and seasoned perfectly. I got the oscar salmon which was wonderful, simple, and cooked perfectly. We ended with a creme brulee and strawberry shortcake. The creme was spot on. The shortcake was eh not sure what I would call the bread, an English muffin or something but it was off. Food was great! Everything was hot and and tasty ! Highly recommend seafood fettuccine or any pasta dish as well as the baked stuffed haddock or BBQ chicken and ribs. One of the only places that offers steak/chicken/veal/salmon oscar dishes! Our service was great communicated about the wait times and specials and had great suggestions! The ambiance was a little dark, but won't discourage us from coming back soon and often! Definitely worth checking out stop by to see their new tavern and outside bar! I have given my share of 5 star reviews, some in which I have expressed a desire for a 10 point scale. The Homestead would earn such. It is a historical restaurant that serves big dish, quality food. You won't go home hungry. I enjoyed one of the best French Onion soups I have ever tasted. I also ordered and shared a plate of wings. I asked if I could have the sauces on the side. I was served three separate side dipping dishes (hot sauce- enhanced Frank's I think, teriyaki, and BBQ) and so they were served. Big quality points for customer service. Alas, the Great Gal was a bit disappointed with her wedge salad. The lettuce, she thought was lifeless. The Rockstar of the meal was Ryan, who we learned has only been serving three weeks, although we were told that he has worked in the business for two years... bus boy? Either way, one could easily build the entire business around this young man's approach to his customer facing skill set. A big 10 for Ryan! This is a nice looking, classy full service customer oriented restaurant. I also noted a spic and span clean restroom. Will visit again, for sure!!! read more

It took us a long time to get our food at a not so busy restaurant this evening. My 2 year old son had got his food and finished eating well before all of the adults got their food. Never once did a manager nor the waitress apologize to the table for how long our food took to get to us (the manager might've apologized to a member of our party when she had asked where our food was but not the table). We had a 6:30 reservation; we were seated promptly. The service was very good. Server was knowledgeable. Our family was up here on a family vacation with a person in a wheelchair. This was the best handicap accessible restaurant we visited during our visit. There were a few hiccups with some of the food but the manager (or owner; not sure) took the meals off of the bill. My wife and I had just gotten married today and thought we'd go to a nice place to eat up north. We started out with the nachos and the chicken was in chunks and was very dry and unseasoned. I was a little nervous because I ordered chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner. For entrées we had the chicken Cordon Bleu and chicken Alfredo. My worries came into fruition when I tasted the chicken. Extremely dry and no seasoning at all. Alfredo was dry. Mashed potatoes were lumpy and dry. The most bland dishes I've ever had at a restaurant. Baby shower venue: I couldn't have been happier! Amanda and staff were so fantastic to work with. She followed through on all my special requests from tablecloth colors to special food and drink requests! The chef and his staff really came through for me. Our waitstaff member Jaime went above and beyond helping throughout the day from set-up to clean up! He cut lemons for the water glasses, refilled our coffee/drinks, cleaned up dishes quickly, helped serve our dessert and was a cheerful face in the room! I was so pleased with my special requests for the baby carriage fruit basket, choo-choo train veggies and mimosas bar with fresh fruits and my choice of champagne. Everything was fantastic! Went last night for dinner and pretty sure that will be our last time. We went in about 7:30, the restaurant packed and joyous - not too busy but not dead. Lots of waitresses on, moving food and lots of happy working staff in the bar that was very friendly. Beautiful location so hopeful entry to say the least about first impressions. We get sat in the back, cozy room but had to turn the table as my chair was backing into a beam. Our waitress came a little more than 5mins after we got to the table and THIS is the turning point of when this visit went sour. Our waitress asked our drink order and seemed annoyed with us being there right from the start. We ordered waters as neither of us drink, she asks us if we want any appetizers - I tell her we need another minute, she seems annoyed and walks off. Comes back with waters, we place the appetizers- escargot and potato skins. She says "I can take your entree orders now, I'll put them in later" but it's a big menu and we've barely reviewed it. I tell her again we're not ready and she seems even more annoyed. When she comes back to take our orders for dinner - husband got a filet with French fries and I got a seafood fettuccini which came with sweet potato fries?! Not once were the water glasses filled and with us not being alcohol drinkers, I guess it just was overlooked although no one was getting their water refilled from my room scan. My husbands filet came with "sauce" which was au jus - thankful cause it was extremely dry. My meal was flavorful and more like seafood Mac and cheese with 1/2 cup of fettuccini if that. No salt and pepper on the table, that might have helped. We finished and I didn't even wait to see the bill - I handed her my card and wanted to leave. I don't like going to restaurants where I feel a bother to my waitress when I'm paying $30 a plate. $100 meal that was not worth it. read more

Appetizer was good, but after 2.5 hours our entrees never came and we ended up leaving without our food. Worst part is we had reservations at 600pm. Manager said the food was in the oven as we were walking out the door and told us we were exaggerating how long our wait was. Disappointing, will not be coming back. It was my parents 53rd anniversary and we were celebrating with just our dad cause our mom passed away unexpectedly in Dec. So the dinner was great and the desserts were even better :). I've always wanted to stop by here and have dinner especially after seeing the outdoor patio. Food wise I found it basic. I had the broiled scallops with rice pilaf. The rice was pretty much out of the box and dry. The scallops w bread crumbs were just ok. The dish was on the dry side as well. My friend had the half chicken and ribs. She said it was flavorful but not memorable. Portion was large. The service was great. As far as the drinks go I would not order a mixed drink we had ordered 3 different mix drinks and although the description sounded wonderful the drinks were not as described for instance a basil blackberry margarita was a regular margarita w 2 blackberries and basil stuck in it. A little muddling or blackberry flavor would of been better.. they were nice enough to let us order another drink and advised the bartender so they can improve the beverage. My suggestion would be that if you did order a drink stick with something out of the bottle such as a glass of wine or beer. It seems like their wine pours were a good portion. This place has amazing potential as the ambience is wonderful. I dont mean to insult but bringing a new chef in with some eclectic inspiration could really improve this location. I love to cook and the dry rice and underwhelming dishes would not be let out of my kitchen. read more

Our dining experience was marginal. Our waitress was very nice, but there was a very rude younger waitress with long blonde hair working that night as well. When we were brought to our booth one side looked like a glass of water had been spilled on the seat so I couldn't sit down this rude waitress was at the booth next to us and I asked her if she could get a towel to wipe it up. She said she wasn't our waitress and walked off. She ended up coming back with a towel and did one swipe with it disgruntled and walked away. There was still water on it so I took it upon myself to get a napkin from a neighboring table and finished wiping up. They have a nice wine list and good pour. Our apps were really good and came out quickly. It was our dinner that took a very long time to be served. We got a Groupon special to come over to The Homestead and waited until my spuse's birthday to make a reservation and come over. We were impressed and on all facets of operation, the restaurant performs better than we were looking for. We were greeted by one amazing waiter, Jamie. Seriously. The guy has its act together and I hope The Homestead realizes they have a star player. We were seated with no delay and got a round of cocktails before ordering the main courses. Their pineapple martini was very good although the margarita was perhaps a little bit light on the tequila. Our main courses were more than plentiful. I had their Bourbon Steak Tips and it was delicious. It came on a bed of rice pilaf with a superb melange of onions and peppers. Ambiance-wise the place is nice although a little dated. Homey, comfortable feeling throughout. Their several dining rooms are used at the same time, creating privacy for guests when the place isn't crowded. My only criticism is the heavy vinyl tablecloths, more representative of a tent camp than a nice restaurant. Overall an outstanding dinner. We will return. read more

While our particular server was very polite and nice, she never delivered the salads before the meals and failed to tell one of us that the meal ordered was no longer available so when all the meals came after about a 25 minute wait he had nothing in front of him and had to reorder something else while we all ate. Nothing was even comped for the mishaps. The food quality was mediocre at best for everyone. I brought friends there for dinner and was extremely embarrassed that they didn't have a good meal. read more
