Visiting Illinois, I recently visited an Ulta store in Geneva Il , determined to find lipstick and perfume, but was instead greeted by aisles that resembled a post-apocalyptic wasteland - products everywhere and employees restocking shelves like the it was Black Friday. After aimlessly wandering around for 10 to 15 minutes looking for my products, not one employee offered any greeting or asked if I needed assistance. Disappointed, I was about to make a break for the door when a retail superhero appeared out of nowhere and swooped in to save the day. I communicated my needs to this lovely young lady, and she efficiently pointed me in the direction of the products, providing top-notch service to someone who was feeling very ill at that time and just wanted to get in and out the store to get home. Given that I ended up dropping over $100, I think I'm justified in expecting a higher level of service - especially in today's economic climate where every dollar counts. I read that Ulta Beauty's in-store service policy requires every guest to be greeted immediately upon entry. Advisors must provide a friendly, personalized experience. The standard greeting procedure dictates acknowledging the customer, sharing current promotions, and directing them to specific areas. Perhaps Geneva Il Ulta could remind their staff that saying hello to customers and offering assistance upon arrival might just make them stick around long enough to part with their hard-earned cash, instead of choosing to walk out in silence. If that happens again at any Ulta, I'll be outta there faster than you can say 'ohh she used profanity' even if someone heartedly asks if I need help on my way out. Customer Service is becoming non-existent these days and very sad to see this happen. Two stars for the young lady who helped me otherwise I would have given a 1-star rating! read more

I got a curly haircut with Karlie P. She is an elite stylist so she's supposed to be pretty skilled. She was kind and everything but she does not know how to style curly hair at all. I paid for the haircut that came with styling. However, I should have saved my money and just got the haircut without styling because she did a horrible job. The haircut itself was good, no huge complains. But when it came to the styling, she left my hair so frizzy. It was clear she did not know how to properly style curly hair. She literally started curling some of my pieces with a Dyson air wrap. Then, she grabbed the diffuser attachment and BRUSHED my hair with it. I think it's common sense that a diffuser is to blow dry your hair not to brush it. Overall, not a great experience and won't be coming back. She has wavy hair in her profile picture which is the only reason I trusted her with my hair. Save the hassle and go with a certified curly hairstylist instead. read more

Poor service, very slow cashiers, and not very professional. Store employees are not very knowledgeable when it comes to money sense. On a recent visit, I paired in cash for my products and when the cashier returned my change, I was short by $10. She had closed the register and started to walk away, however I immediately counted my change and caught the error right away. The cashier corrected her error, but she was so flippant about it and laughed it off. I wonder how many times this has happened before? Yikes. More recently I needed to make an exchange for a product in a slightly different tone, so while it should have been the same exact price to exchange, I was overcharged. After it was all said and done, It took the cashiers 15 minutes to get me through the whole exchange process. This place is a joke and the associates are not the sharpest tools in the box. Save yourself a headache and perhaps visit a different Ulta location or other cosmetics store completely. read more

My friend came to get her hair done. She explained to the hair dresser that she wanted her roots and ends to be one solid color of blonde. The dresser gave her brassy roots. The established offered to have my friend come back so they can fix the mistake. Against my advice my friend went back to have her roots corrected. The dresser made it even more brassy and orange. If you don't know how to do platinum or any shades of blonde at least be honest. We called corporate and we are awaiting to hear back from the location to see what they can do. Even a refund won't make up for the hassle, inconvenience, and damage to her hair. Please beware and go to real salons. read more

Always has what I need in stock and the employees here are super kind and helpful! Everything here is laid out very well and it's easy to find the products you're looking for. Their points system is great as well! I also come here sometimes to test perfumes before purchasing and they have tons on display. However, some are empty or smell a bit like rubbing alcohol as if they've gone bad. Please have employees check and update this area more often! read more

The hair services I receive from Dawn at the Geneva Illinois Ulta are exceptional! At each visit (every 4 weeks) she makes me feel that I am her only client. I just had a color and "gentle" highlight done at Ulta for the first time yesterday and I LOVE IT! Lore was the stylist and I believe she is extremely gifted at her craft. She listened carefully to my wishes and concerns and gave me the look that makes me happy and confident. Rissa is a hair color goddess. It had been about a year since I'd gotten my hair done. I loved my stylist in the city, but didn't love spending $500 to get my balayage and cut done. Being kind of a hair snob, I was nervous to get my hair done with someone new, especially because I have THICK hair and a lot of it. I scheduled with Rissa, and I could not be happier that I did. She listened to what I wanted and delivered GORGEOUS results. My balayage is beautiful. Like "people stop me on the street and ask me where I get it done" beautiful. She takes her time with the application, which is great - because a) I know she's a perfectionist and b) she's awesome, so it was great to get to talk with her. She focused entirely on me, and I didn't feel like I was a burden or taking up too much of her time. My cut took no time at all, and my hair - which has bleached/highlighted ends - feels SO HEALTHY. I am so pleasantly surprised, and I will 100% be going back to the burbs to get my hair done with Rissa for... like... the rest of time. 10 out of 10, totally recommend Rissa. read more

I like to come in here to try perfumes and checkout the makeup products without being stormed by a sales associate. I love the selection Ulta offers. The prices are reasonable. On the weekends the stores gets super crowded which is a turn-off due to not getting a greeting upon entering or getting much assistance. I haven't tired the salon in ages however it's nice to have a one stop beauty shop. read more

I visited this store twice today, unfamiliar with beauty products, armed only with a texted list of items to shop. On each of the two visits, immediately after entering the store I was greeted by a friendly staff member (different person each visit) who offered to help me. The first time, the store employee took me to the place where my products were located and helped me make a selection. She then took me to a location in the store where she could check out my purchase without waiting in line up front. On the second trip, that person looked at the photo in my text messages a knew just what I needed. She asked me to stand by while she went deep into the store to retrieve the item for me. She returned with the sad news that the item was not in stock, but brought an alternate product for me to see. I might have received this level of service because I'm male, gray hair, and use a cane to maintain my balance. But I'd like to think every customer gets this excellent care! read more

Stopped in on Sunday to pick up one item and asked Maria for assistance. Several hundred dollars later I was pampered and treated like a queen. Maria was wonderful and assisted me in my one request and found more items that I found I needed and Alex in the salon was great in trimming my bangs on a whim. I visited Ulta while in town for business, I called last minute to get my hair and makeup done for a Gala I was attending. I was able to get in and my stylist Marissa "Rissa" was awesome! I advised her I needed an up do and had no idea what to do. She asked to see my dress and together we discussed a few ideas before coming to a flower head. It sounded perfect to go with my flowers on my dress. Rissa was great, she was personable and very professional, we laughed a lot. The hour or so it took to do my hair was a great, I didn't feel uncomfortable and at no time did it get boring. Overall I'm in love with my hairdo, I would definitely recommend her or the team to do anyone's hair. I also got my make up done and I think her name was Jessica, "sorry" I told her I wanted to smoke you look but not nothing overwhelming for my age. She did a beautiful job and discuss the whole process with me. I ended up buying some of the makeup she used. I'm so thankful and glad that I was able to get in, the store in general was great. Ulta Girls, you rock! Two of the cutest gals ever- gorgeous Blake Lively and Selina Gomez lookalikes- helped me today and save my life. They were patient, efficient and adorable. Customer service over and beyond. I needed fuchsia lipstick, eyelid primer and a last minute Mother's Day gift pronto and they ran around the store like it was the most important thing in their day. I was treated extremely rude by the manager when I asked about exchanging a Pureology shampoo for a different one. I did not have a receipt, because my niece had picked it up for me at an earlier date. I had asked the day before, when I was in to make a purchase, if that was something they would do, even without a receipt, and I was told by the cashier that it should not be a problem. Went in the next day, Saturday, and the manager was very demeaning to me. Opened the bottle and smelled it. Like I was trying to rip them off or something. Told me she could only give me the last price towards another bottle. I did NOT want money just an exchange for a different kind/scent of shampoo. She looked it up and said she could give me .08 cents. Yes .08 cents toward a different shampoo. She explained that she has no idea what my niece paid and that she could have used her rewards to purchase the bottle. So that justifies her giving me .08 cents? Who does that? That was a huge slap in the face, in my opinion. read more

This was my first time at Ulta's brow bar. The lady that did my brows was very nice. I wasn't expecting to have a wax burn afterwards though. The pictures are 24 hours after my appointment and it hasn't changed at all...so I'm hoping it'll start to heal soon for the holidays! The first brow she did is the one that hurts the most and has the biggest burn. So I guess if you get your brows done, don't have any major plans for the next few days in case you have a wax burn. Well, just like every retail store around, workers are scarce. One person checking out a long line of woman on a Wednesday night. No excuse why the manager couldn't jump in and help, but she didn't! I received a birthday offer, went in to make a purchase and pick up the gift, SURPRISE, they were out of the item and it's only the 11th of the month. They had the same product available in a different package that they sell, but the manager wouldn't allow the clerk to give me that item because it wasn't in the "correct" package for the free gift offer. How stupid is that? Not the customer service you would expect when more and more people are shopping Amazon instead of brick and mortar stores. The battle of Ulta vs. Sephora will never end. Ulta's got two things Sephora doesn't: a much more beneficial customer points program and the ability to compare drugstore brands to prestige brands under one roof. My first visit here was the day after Christmas, to exchange a gift, and the line was long - but just as long as it would have been on any weekend day. There were 2-3 cashiers at any given moment, and they kept things running smoothly. Before I could blink, I had my merchandise credit in my hand and was ready to shop! I left here with quite a haul. Every item I came in here for was in stock, which again was a pleasant surprise right after Christmas. Everything was easy to find too. I left here with a new favorite perfume in tow, Givenchy's Dahlia Divin, and a new favorite eyeshadow palette, Lorac PRO. Tip: there are security TIMERS on some of the perfume! If you remove it from the shelf, be prepared to head directly to the register. I walked around with a bottle in my shopping bag for quite some time, and an alarm went off! In the future, perfume will be the last thing I grab before I head to check out. read more

I started off thinking that $21 was a lot to pay for an eyebrow wax, but that it's my birthday weekend, and I want to treat myself. I went in and the pro that I was matched with was Molly. She was VERY professional, knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and most important/relevant to this review-she was very good at her job! I initially asked for an arch and tint, and the tint would have been an additional $19. She explained the purpose of the tint, and that it would not help me accomplish the look that I wanted to achieve. She didn't just try to make an extra buck for Ulta/Benefit Brow Bar. She also went the extra mile and explained exactly how to maintain my eyebrows in between waxes as to not interfere with any progress I've made (I've been growing my brows out for weeks in order to re-shape them). I would definitely recommend Molly at this location! She knows her stuff, and you will leave a very satisfied customer. read more

Lore is the most competent, skilled, educated, and just downright tops in her profession. I presented to her with a head of hair which was a mistake from another salon. After carefully listening to what I wanted and looking at the pictures of where my hair had been 6-9 months prior and just 3 weeks prior Lore careful began the process of correcting the color while maintaining the integrity of my long hair. The consultation considering my daughter's wedding just 5 months in the future and my desire for a fancy updo at that time which I'd been working towards. Lore did conditioning treatments between correction, didn't over process, asked often how I was doing, and explained actions thoroughly. I'll let the picture speak for itself. I presented to her with hair that felt like straw and looked almost like a light tangerine...I had been lost two nights sleep and left my house ONCE to get my husband Imodium AD, I was wearing a stocking cap. I recently moved to the area, and in my search for a new hair stylist scheduled an appointment at the Ulta Salon. I went to the same stylist twice, and both experiences were mediocre. First, my stylist was unapologetically late to both of my appointments. Second, she was rather rude and uncomfortable to talk to. When I asked for her help/opinion about a new hair style or color she acted annoyed. I ended up paying for a "haircut" but got more of a trim. Only reason I come here is because of the coupon. The service here is spotty. They seem to have a turnover of different people working every time. Seems like the only time they're friendly is when the cosmetic reps want to try to sell you something. When they see you're not interested, they drop the cheery-deary act, and walk away. The aisles are cramped, and some displays are lower, so it's hard to see the items on the bottom. Seems like the displays are just slapped together. Also, there seems to be more than a few damaged items laying around. I bought a roll on stick blush, only to open it up, and find it was a store tester. Best Store/Salon ever! I've been shopping at this store for years, and every time I walk in someone greets me and asks if I need help. When I say hi and walk away, someone else around the corner also asks if I need help. In fact, no matter where I am in the store, someone is there asking if I need help, or if I look around staring into outer space or look confused, they find me, lol! If I need help and nobody is around, it literally just takes 10 seconds or less to find someone! Everyone in the store is so nice! Also, I started using Lore Pepper in the salon about 4-5 years ago? She is the best hair stylist I've ever had! When I go for a hair cut, or color, whatever...I feel like I'm having a "girls day out" cuz all we do is talk and have a blast! I love this store! I went to the Ulta Salon for the first time and enjoyed my experience. Rachel was my stylist and she was very sweet, easy to talk to and did a great job on my hair--cut and color. I highly recommend her-- She was also able to get me in on short notice. My only qualm with the Ulta Salon was that I was quoted 3 different prices by the receptionist on the phone and was placed on hold 2-3 times while she figured out a price for me (which was different every time--and Rachel cleared pricing up with me when I got there) Over all, Rachel took great care of me (style wise and price wise) and I was able to get out of there with a great experience and even better looking hair for a reasonable price! read more

A short review for a short trip: The ladies at this Ulta were a treat. I ran in for a quick nail polish emergency (needed it for my Halloween costume). I walked in and informed the ladies that I had forgotten my coupon and my Ulta card. The wonderful staff took care of both for me. They were able to look up my card, and give me the coupon code, so that I didn't miss out. Super happy Chrissy up in this place! Awesome service from the girls- left me nice looking brows. I did the wax and tint and cost was 40 bucks. For people with thin or light brows I would recommend tinting however mine is dark and thick so the tiny didn't really work wonders for me. read more
