The small burger chain, Lexie's, should not be missed. They have a handful of locations in Massachusetts and NH. The one in Newburyport is on the main drag and is easy to get to. The dining room is small but clean and bright with neat artwork on the walls. Piped in music was not too loud. The staff is friendly and engaging. Their burgers are just the right size, never too big and not too small. Delightfully messy and tasty! Their fries are perfect and can be ordered in a few different ways. As someone who loves a good burger, I was excited to see so many delicious options on their menu, and it was difficult deciding on what to order. I ended up getting the Instant Classic and my partner got an Urban Cowboy and we split a side of fries. Since it was a nice day outside, we ordered takeout and sat in one of the parks down the street. This was probably one of the tastiest burgers I've had in awhile... the flavor combinations and quality of the different toppings made me not want to put the burger down! I have to confess up front that I don't want to like this place. The primary reason for that is food-for-price, which to me is very low. That said, the food was really quite good... burger ("Green Goblin") was really tasty, just too small (4oz) for the price. Onion rings were good. Even the lemonade was good, though, again, small for the price. Three in our party and we all liked the food. The place is small and was actually quite dirty. A lot of food on the floor... There isn't a ton of space so you might not get a table if it's a busy time but the wait has always been reasonable for us. The burgers were really good, not too big but still filling. You order your food at the counter and then find a seat .The place is pretty small so if a group comes in you'll have to get your order to go. So we just beat the rush. I ordered a classic burger with American cheese I think it's called a yo man in their menu with a side of onion rings. it came with lettuce tomato pickles and an herbed aoli sauce. The burger was small lacked flavor, and was on the dry side despite the aoli sauce. I had to add some ketchup for a bit more flavor. The onion rings tasted as if they were coated in corn meal with this gritty course taste to them and were very thin. The staff were friendly and the place was clean bright with these bubbly pastel playful colors,with peace and love symbols through the space. Despite the cheerful atmosphere the food was lacking. We stopped here because my boss demanded it as he knows I'm a foodie and Yelp too much. You have to order over the phone or online, so make sure you do that instead of just showing up. We ordered online and were sent a text saying it would be ready around a half hour from them. Unfortunately it was actually an hour wait.. for take out. Not sure if they deliver which would make sense of being that far behind, but we only saw about four orders come out during our wait. They did tell us they were behind once they gave us our food. They're not doing chicken burgers at the moment (which is what my boss recommended), so we went with the bean patty option. Order - Urban Cowboy Beanie Burger, potato wedges with cheese and bacon, and a beanie burger w lettuce, tomato, pickle, and jalapenos. Hey - the bean burger option here is great. Definitely solid. Still a good size with good flavor and great texture. My gf is gluten free and she said the buns (I think they're Udis) went really well with hers). Sadly - after an hour wait, it was pretty underwhelming. My wedges were lacking when it came to cheese and bacon. Just not much going on, so bummer there. They also had a hair attached to the cheese. Sh*t happens - it just humors me a bit that out of the small amount of cheese they put on my fries.. a hair lands. They missed the jalapenos and sauce on my gf's beanie burger, so that was lacking. We stopped in Newburyport to stretch our legs and have lunch. We finally found parking downtown and walked up to Lexie's for lunch. We both were craving a great burger. This little place is a gem. They pretty much just have burgers and for the vegetarian they do have a housemade vegetarian burger that was absolutely scrumptious. Mr. B ordered the Burger Special for the day. It was a perfectly patty with battered and fried mushrooms, onion a nice spicy aioli with pepper jack cheese. It was truly delicious. I ordered the Urban Cowboy with the housemade black bean vegetarian patty. It had cheese, avocado, bacon, a fresh chimichurri sauce with crispy onions and BBQ sauce. It was amazing. We shared an order of housemade onion rings that were crispy and so good. What I loved about the burgers is they are average size, not oversized wasteful. Just perfect. We've come here pretty much weekly for years, and as of the last few months, they just cannot get a simple order (3-4 items) right no matter what we do, including leaving a note in the order to please double check as our order keeps coming incorrectly. Just tonight on an order of four items: - Quoted 20 minutes, was ready in less than 10 and cold by the time we got there (they will not answer the phone and you do not learn approximately how long it will take (sometimes 10 mins, sometimes an hour+) until AFTER you place the order and they text you; whoever thought this was smart should find work in another industry) - Missed/incorrect items on one burger and a to-go sauce container that was basically empty that you pay extra for - No utensils (we asked specifically) - No napkins (we asked specifically) - No ketchup (we asked specifically) - Shake had very clearly been sitting out for the 10+ mins before - Shake partially tasted like their special shake for the night, which we did not order, making us question if equipment is being cleaned correctly between orders We've been happy to support Lexie's through the pandemic but what is the point of trying to help a business that seems to be barely trying. read more

This could very well be my favorite burger joint in the state. Really. It's unassuming inside, as Lexie's looked like a former bar. The restaurant is small and it's popular with the kid crowd during lunch. I can imagine this place to be really cramped and maybe take-out is the best option. The What's Up Doc special was amazing. The burger wasn't too greasy but had a juicy flavor to every bite. Plus it was the right amount of savoriness to it. The bun held up throughout the meal. The cheese was melted nicely, with a nice texture to the good amount of bacon inside. The chimichurri sauce was a hit and the caramelized onions were a bit sweet. Lastly, the sriacha aioli provided a little kick to the flavor profile. The combination of all the ingredients presented a well-orchestrated symphony and everything tasted fresh. The only kinda douche-y thing was that I wanted that sriacha aioli instead of bbq sauce and got charged extra, even though I didn't ask for an add-on, just a substitute. Didn't see (nor told) substitutions being charged extra. The truffle fries were crisp and well-fried. There was a good amount of truffle-fry flavor to it. I liked the size to them as well. They weren't matchstick thin but not thick either. The only gripe was that fries were a bit too salty. Prices are really reasonable here and having add-ons won't kill you, budget-wise. Having the mini chocolate chip cookie was a nice touch. Service was generally good. It's a haul for me to get here but I have to do it again. read more

Don't get me wrong, I am a die hard Lexie's fan. I've been going to the Portsmouth location for years along with the Durham location since their opening. I was excited to try out their Newburyport location for the first time today. We got seats upon entering and already knew what we wanted to get. We ordered fish tacos, and instant classic burger, truffle fries, a lemonade and a water. The lemonade came out right away. The fries, burger and tacos came out next. While the fries and tacos were fabulous, the burger was extremely rare. As I've eaten Lexie's at many locations, this surprised me. The hostess asked if there was a problem and I showed him the burger. He said their standard medium cooked burger was fairly rare, but this level of rare concerned me. Another customer also asked him if his burger was cooked to a safe temperature, so I knew this wasn't just my burger. I wanted to enjoy my burger rather than be afraid of it, because they're so good! The interior is very colorful and decorated with children's drawings, so cute! The burger and fish sandwich were served with a potato bun and were delicious. The truffle fries were very good too; we could really taste the truffle oil. The hands down winner was the House Fave 2.0. I'm not even a huge fan of peanut butter but that drizzle was the perfect amount! However, one downside to our meal was the onion rings. We didn't mind that the rings were pretty small, but we couldn't ignore the batter and cook of the onions. As you can see in the picture, the batter is extremely light in color. They were soggy and just didn't seem right. To top it off, the party next to us received their order of onion rings after we had paid the check. Theirs looked beautiful! Golden brown and crispy! I was in disbelief that we had ordered the same thing. I asked the waitress if they had ordered a different style of onion rings to which she answered they were the same. After I had told her that ours did not look like theirs, she just looked confused and walked away with our check. I tried to be understanding since the waitresses look very young, but I wonder why the chef sent out two completely different orders of onion rings. Again, this was the only downside. The other things we ordered were delicious! I just hope moving forward, they will be more consistent in their frying. read more
