Turtle Kraal Campground is the dumpiest of dumps…read more There is NO WAY this place takes your breath away like another poster said unless you're talking about what a dump it is like another poster said. And NO....it is not clean as a whistle. Since 2014 they have four reviews. This speaks volumes. The place has NOTHING going for it. Wide open, hot as hell in the Summer with no shade and bees everywhere. If you leave anything out during the week, expect it gone when you return. Imagine being among people who steal from you. Report it to the office and they do NOTHING and say they haven't heard of any other reports. Report to the police and they tell you they have been out there MANY TIMES with people reporting things stolen. No activities at all. NOTHING. They have some lazy really fat guy named Fred Weber going around in a golf cart complaining about the children riding their bikes too fast. What the heck is too fast? If you have any plans on even thinking of this dump, call the police first and ask them the history with reports of items stolen first. Pay more money, go somewhere else, and have an enjoyable vacation. Could I give ZERO stars?

Unfortunately. We were on the wrong side of the tracks for this stay. Hardly worth the $60 during the end of season. The site was dirty with trash and a fire pit that wasn't cleaned. Our picnic table had muddy dog prints all over it and the water connection was less than 6 inches off the ground and just above the sewer connection, which made attaching sewer connections impossible. They have posted 9 pm quiet hours, yet our 9 pm late arriving seasonal neighbors were loudly partying and drinking until well after 1 AM. Quiet hours simply are not enforced. Fortunately, we only had one night remaining, cut this trip short, just not worth the money we are spendjng.

The owner is incredibly accommodating and has consistently gone above and beyond to make sure we have what we need to enjoy our time at the campground. The one time there were issues with water and electric, the response time was immediate and the issue was fixed within an hour. The campground itself is small and no-frills. We're a young couple that spend most of our days out on our boat and don't require more than a spot for our camper plus a little yard to have a fire at night, which is exactly what we get at Edge of Woods. Our neighbors are all friendly and we've been able to enjoy many summer nights with friends here. What more can you ask for on the big lake?

We drove around and found a lawn sign in front of one of the trailers. No one was there to great us, so we waited in our car for about 20 minutes. The care taker finally show up, but was more focused on brining in his groceries than helping find a site. I truly mean that we needed to find a site. When we had drove around the campground, we truly thought there were no tent sites. He walked us in behind a row of arborvitae where there was a long strip of open space. The ground had exposed stumps, leaf piles, and garbage. Between the arborvitae and the rock wall there was just enough space for us to set up our tent. There is absolutely no privacy! The strip of open space was considered four separate tent sites. There was no space to do anything after you set your tent up. There was no picnic tables or place to sit and eat. There was one fire pit for the four sites. Even this was a metal pan style fire pit with the bottom falling out. The bathrooms are a converted trailer with a single toilet and one shower. It was disgusting and clearly not cleaned often. There was not toilet paper provided either. This was incredibly deceiving when we booked it. The owner seems like a nice enough guy, but is incredible hard to get a hold of. He does not return calls if you leave a voicemail, claiming that he doesn't have enough time with the three jobs he works. We paid $40 a night. Definitely not worth the price.

Every morning we'd wake up to them doing their rounds and maintaining the sites. They were all very kind to us and our dog. Overall the KOA is impressive. Lovely tent camping sites, a beautiful well maintained field for kids to play and clean facilities all around. When it comes to our site, we were disappointed. We were in site 18 which when parking to give ourselves a place to hangout next to the fire pit put us basically right on top of our neighbor. (Check out the pictures - the only view we had from our window was their camper) Our hangout spot near the fire pit was right next to our other neighbors so it basically felt like we were all hanging out together. The worst part for us was the highway right through the trees is highly trafficked at all hours of the day and night. Yes we heard tractor trailers at 3 am. It was so loud from traffic at times we couldn't hear each other speaking. This area of the KOA made us feel like we were at a rest stop on the side of the highway instead of in the beautiful wilderness camping. We would certainly return but without a doubt would need to upgrade to the much more beautiful spacious sites in the back. If you plan to camp in an RV spot we recommend you do the same!

Campsites were clean and neat. Sites were well shaded by trees. Bathrooms clean. Cabins looked well taken care of. Can't say enough nice things. We would go back for sure. Nice area, too. Just spent 3 days/2 nights here over fathers day weekend, and it a worthwhile stay. Typically we…read morestay in a tent site, but this time we rented a cabin. The cabin was a decent sized spot with bunk beds for the kids, a microwave, coffee pot, sink, mini fridge, and full bathroom. It had heat and AC so it was really easy to adjust to whatever was most comfortable. Outside of the cabin was a stone patio with stone fire pit. Around the pit was 4 quality made Adirondack chairs. Next to that was a picnic table and a propane grill, which had propane provided to us. All we had to bring was our food, and pick up firewood. The KOA offered linen service for 10 dollars. The staff delivered sheets and blankets, and even offered to make the beds for us, which was a nice gesture. I think it's worthwhile if you're trying to cut down on the amount of stuff you're packing for a trip. They also sell firewood, which they will deliver to you as well. 3 bundles for $20.00. We bought some and the first bundle we tried seemed a little green. I mentioned it to the staff at the desk and they provided us with additional wood that was much more seasoned. On top of the wood they dropped off some extra kindling, and a fire starter. Also, they do a 10am curbside trash pickup at the sites, which is really convenient. Overall, I'd say this site excels in customer service, cleanliness, and location. They are a very welcoming group. The only downside, which isn't a HUGE downside, is that the sites can be a little cramped. So if you stay up late, and make a little bit of noise you may have some unhappy neighbors. In regards to the location, it's right off the highway, but you don't hear the highway. Gas station is less than a 1/4 mile away, and sells beer and wine. In the other direction Quechee Village, Gorge, and Woodstock are all within a reasonable drive.

We used their website to reserve site 14, which showed it was on the end. We arrived after a long day of driving our Class A and towing a trailer. After checking in, a very grumpy man 'escorted' us to our spot. He showed us the wrong spot and we said we need to speak to someone. We had to go back to the front and my husband spoke to a very snotty young lady and tried to sort it out. He showed her on his phone the spot on their reservation site that we reserved and she agreed, but needed to call the owner. At this point I came to the office to try to reason with them. After awhile, an extremely rude man came in with a terrible attitude. He was constantly on his phone; either pretending to be busy or recording me. Who knows. When we tried to rationally talk to him and show him the site we reserved on their website, he laughed and said, "I don't have to do anything. I'm the owner and I can do whatever I want." He refused to even look at our phone to show him that their reservation website is wrong. We paid an extra $25 to lock this site. He said both sites were patio sites, but one is on the end with more separation and some trees blocking the site next to it, while the other has another site right on top of them. The sites here are the closest I have seen in four months of traveling full time. And just to add, the road noise is pretty bad, and what is the deal with the resort fee? So overpriced for what you are getting. Never was there an apology. Their solution was for us to move on the day the others arrived. No other option. We spent almost $1,000 there for eight nights. he obviously did not care about our business. What a way to run a place. We only stayed one night because it was late and there was nowhere else to go. We left the next day and they charged us for two nights and refunded the rest. This place was a terrible experience that literally left me in tears in how we were treated. Highly recommend skipping this overpriced joke of a place.

I made the mistake of going here out of nostalgia rather then checking reviews. BIG MISTAKE. At first sight it wasnt bad looking, and I was genuinely excited to check in. The girls were friendly at main office and kind of helpful. This is the point where it all went down hill, and the crap show started. Upon getting to our site within five minutes my niece steps on rusty barbed wire puncturing and scraping up her legs. Causing an appointment at the doctors office for a shot. Then after smelling something horrible for almost two hours we looked up to see dead lobster shells hung on branches above the camp. Amongst the shells trash was basically spread out threw the sites with no obvious attempt to pick anything up. DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS. I was terriffied of catching hepatitis with this disgusting place. Not only was there poop all over the bathroom the showers were just as terrifying. I mentioned all these problems to the "manager", but that was a waist of time. He is just as incompetant as his house keeping staff. I mentioned all this to the house keeping manager as well she shuckled after saying I just cleaned them. Which she hadn't because I just walked from there. LIARS ALL OF THEM. Hopefully the owners see this, but I imagine after seeing other reviews like this they obviously dont care. Just a couple photos of some stuff as the other horrific things are enough to imagine.

With two adults and two kiddos we rented a RV right by the river (could have easily fit 6), the place was immaculate and the staff is even better!! With a 6 year old and 4 year old we were in and out of the beautiful river that is nice and shallow until you walk out 10 feet or so, great for kids who can't swim yet. And just riding around in a rented gold cart everything looked clean, can't wait to try the splash pad next time. So many other kids around they made friends and the adults got to relax. Would absolutely recommend this place to any family camping or rv'ing GREAT place
