    Tenderloin

Best tenderloin we've ever eaten!! It's a drive but so worth it. It seems everything that came out of the kitchen was super sized and delicious from the murmurs around the restaurant.

Had to try their breakfast! I ordered potatoes and onions with a side of sausage patties. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy with two eggs over easy and sausage patties. Our waitress was very friendly. She got us everything we needed. It's always a friendly place, community type seating. Always met with a smile. The food was pretty good, my husband is just likes it a little spicier. Portions are huge. We will definitely be going back to try more things on the menu!!

    Chicken BLT - fried okra

Just be aware on ordering- LARGE portions-great okra- all the food we ordered! Small town old fashion decor, tables are 8'. Worth the stop!

Tenderloin!! The bun is a normal size. Wow!

Paula's Cafe is, hands down, the best thing Craig, MO has going for it. The tenderloin is worth writing home about. We split it four ways and hand leftovers!

I called ahead and ordered food after reading their writeups and weren't scheduled to arrive till 2:08pm (they close at 2pm). As luck would have it we missed the turn off and turned around 10mi past their exit. I'm glad we did! Craig, MO is a quaint little town and the food at Paula's is abundant and delicious. The meat on the cheesesteak was tender, lean, and seasoned just right. It was smothered w/ peppers and onions and absolutely filled the to-go container. Instead of a roll they used two hamburger buns which was perfect to share w/ the hubbie. We were so hungry we ripped into it b4 I thought to take a pic! The sides were decent and abundant. And the blackberry pie had the right amount of tartness (not over sugared) w/ a perfectly flaky crust. We WILL be back.

    Gizzards and sweet potato fries

Nice lunch at Paula's today. It was our first time eating here, and good it was a good that we were hungry, because the servings were monstrous. Everything we had was good and priced well, so I would definitely recommend. The place filled up quickly, so it must be a popular joint. Looking forward to coming back.

forgot to get a picture of the picture perfect chicken!

Beautiful Crispy Fried Chicken with just the right amount of seasonings and fixins was the special for today. My kids are very picky eaters and even they loved it! Service was Perfect, only to be surpassed by the quality of the food! Topped it off with homemade, yes homemade chocolate pie! If passing through, don't let the City's Post Flood/ apocalyptic decor scare you! This restaurant was packed and seating was scarce at lunch time. We saw 3 cops and 2 EMT eating here along with all the local farmers, so you know it's good! I have heard the pork tenderloin's are bigger than your head and the breakfast menu is on point! Don't miss out on a great meal!

The food and service was great and the portions were insane!! We will definitely be back when we travel through the area again!

Grilled chicken sandwich with pepper jack cheese balls.

Great old time atmosphere, great friendly service. We were greeted by the locals that were eating at the cafe when we arrived. Food was great and price was even better. The entire family of 7 loved it and had plenty of left overs for dinner later.

After a fire destroyed the previous location, Billy and Paula were forced to move down the street. Turns out this may have been the best thing to happen to this small town. Paula's cafe has a real country feel on one side, and a 50's red and black theme on the other. We decided to stop in for breakfast after being frequent flyers for lunch. Turns out the portion sizes are just as large as their lunch specials. They've got a nice community table where you'll see all the local farmers chatting it up ... So don't worry when they look you over upon arrival. Just take a seat and enjoy the atmosphere and food! You'll want to come back for lunch and dinner! We ordered an omelet and a ham steak breakfast. The menu claims it's a two egg omlet but that's an understatement, so be prepared! These are probably great options for a hangover cure! Enjoy your visit! PS: try the pies!

This what I got. Scrap sandwich

I went for the their famous Tenderloin but because of not ordering their meat for the week no tenderloins. So I ordered a Reuben. It was big on appearance.but the Reuben was a scrap sandwich no big pieces of corn beef just a mixture of scraps of beef and corn beef.Ccouldn't really see the sandwich it was covered with dressing. I guess to hide the meat. I still want to try the tenderloin. Just disappointed in my sandwich.you better call ahead to reserve your sandwich.bring your own ketchup,it was old tasting or cut rate.

Oh wow...come on people. Shakers deserves some recognition! It's a small town classic mom and pop…read moregrill. I just can't believe there's only 3 reviews about this place. I'm ready to call Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! I figured Shakers would be the most popular attraction in Mound City, Missouri!! Anyhow...let me give a little info and background on Shakers. I was driving along my cross country road trip through Missouri and was yearning for a homely/informal restaurant that would be popular and authentic to the area. So I Googled "places to eat" in Mound City and Shakers appeared. Then I ventured on over here. Shakers is a little family burger and ice cream joint. They have a menu posted on a board next to the takeout window. Walking up to order...I could just sense whatever I chose was going to be hot and fresh made to order. Shakers is situated just off the main road. I parked in the lot and then strolled over to the front section where they featured picnic tables to sit down and eat at. When I was ready, I just went up to the window to ordered. The menu board was very simple, with cheap prices ranging anywhere from $5 - $10 or so. I'll list the whole menu board right here... - Ice Cream Treats - cups/cones, floats, malts, ice cream shakers, sundaes, flavor bursts, and ice cream specials! - Finger Foods - chicken tenders, popcorn chicken, beer battered shrimp, Buffalo chicken, cheese fries, nachos, mozzarella sticks, French fries, onion rings. - Sandwiches - pork tenderloin, chicken filet, deli turkey, tuna salad, grilled cheese, hot dog, chili dog, hamburger, cheeseburger. - Baskets (served with French fries and Texas toast) - chicken tenders, jumbo popcorn chicken, boneless Buffalo chicken, beer battered shrimp, catfish tenders. Basically, anything and everything you could ask for from a good old fashioned hamburger and hot dog establishment....Shakers featured. Seriously, they cater to the entire family and children. The menu board may appear small in stature, but it's packed with All-American favorites! I ordered an old cheeseburger with onion rings, soda and a large cookie dough shaker. The meal came to around $15 and then I threw a few dollars in the tip jar. I then waited at the picnic table for my order to be called. I was very surprised for the summertime just how quiet it was here, but because of this 2020 pandemic, I guess a lot of people were staying at home. Still, I was just grateful they even let me sit down at the tables because....I was getting quite tired of eating in the front seat of my car for almost every meal along my cross country drive. Another really cool aspect about Shakers is they had a drive-thru. So for those who'd like to take their food "to-go" with them...this was convenient. I maybe waited 10 minutes for my meal. My burger and onion rings came inside of a vintage old fashioned basket. My cheeseburger fresh was right off the grill. It came with lettuce and tomato on a soft bun. The onion rings were out of this world!! They were so hot and crispy straight from the fryer. The onion rings were the star of the meal! And my cookie dough shaker was filled with plenty of cookie dough pieces. For every bit I took...I had a piece of cookie dough in my mouth, lol. The shaker was like a meal in and of itself. Finally, Shakers was such a pleasant surprise on my trek through Missouri. It was a great way to have a no frills type of meal sitting down outside at the picnic tables while enjoying the warm summer weather. This charming family quick-stop grill was the ideal place for that meal I was craving. I highly recommend Shakers to everyone in Mound City. I hope this place is doing okay through the horrible pandemic. I hope Mound City supports them well. I assume the word is out on this place. Just...3 Yelp reviews is shockingly disappointing.

Well let me start off with the fact they are over an hour away from our home. Considering they have ruined us on any and all other burger and fries, it might become a habit. Husband had the Blackberry Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger. I do not on the norm like blackberries, but on this!!!! The blackberries sweetness stands against the strong overpowering blue cheese and they meld well to make a wonderful tasting combo. I ordered There Goes My Gryo.....how did they get a freaking lamb burger, a very lean meat be that juicy!?!? I dont know but with the peppers, tomato and onion made a fresh hamburger, might be good with some kalamata olive....but I am not complaining. It was delicious. I am picky on my fries and usually dont eat the full amount restaurants serve. I had to stop myself. They are more like a shoestring but not hard or crunchy. Seasoned wonderfully! My suggestion you go in there with a big appetite, grab lots of napkins and be ready to devour the best burger you've ever had!

Placed order within 2-3 minutes of walking in. Sat down at the bar and waited. The place looked well kept and fairly busy for a Thursday afternoon. Meal was ready in less than 10 minutes and it was delicious. I would say that they are higher priced, but the portion size for the price is solid. Personally little heavy for lunch, but I might try something else little lighter next time or just come in for dinner and try a shake because they look good also! What I ordered this time was delicious and I will be back and refer! Thank you!
