Many visits over many decades, and it's time to calibrate the full experience from my last visit. Food is first. As an example, the Prime Rib is good, but it should be and could be excellent. Seasoning and preparation, need to be revisited. One thing completely missing is menu variety. Adding a "Chef's Special" would be a good way to start. Service has always been excellent. Ambiance needs attention., as some areas are not up to what one expects in a $60+/person dinner tab. The overall experience is "almost" memorable, and with some modest changes, it could be always memorable. I am great supporter of "The Squire", and only give these suggestions to make it even better. I look forward to reviewing with a 5-Star rating. But today, only 3-Stars is a fair assessment. read more

When you arrive at this quaint restaurant and Inn you are instantly transported to another era in Scotland. But first you need to find it. Yelp's directions are wrong. Look at the pictures I have included at the bottom and put those in your GPS. Service and ambiance is outstanding. Food, eh. A chef should know you view your dinner first with your eyes, then with taste and smell. Plating was not the best. Definitely lacking. My husband got the steak sandwich that tasted fine, but was crammed into a small plate and accompanied by an additional plate for lettuce and tomato in case you wanted them on your sandwich. It was very awkward to eat. My very large house salad with Korean beef was served in a medium bowl that was already spilling over when served. Plus, the first thing I saw in this overstuffed bowl were green/gray oxidized hard boiled eggs. Yum, NOT. Eating this had salad flying everywhere. I must say the blue cheese was outstanding. The ambience is great! The food is absolutely horrible. Picture of our stuffed mushrooms . The fillet mignon was not a fillet mignon. Staff were friendly and we loved our room. I would definitely recommend for the wine and the stay but not the restaurant. read more

My wife and I came here excited for what we thought would be a cozy dinner at a charming, hole-in-the-wall restaurant in the woods. The pictures looked fantastic, and the ambience when we arrived was warm and rustic. The owner was kind, and our server was very sweet -- she even shared that she's a schoolteacher. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. We started with salads, but they arrived without dressing. After waiting 15-20 minutes, our server noticed and asked the busser to bring some over. He seemed irritated to do so, rushed through the dressings so fast we had to ask him twice to repeat, and then scooped what felt like two pounds of blue cheese onto my salad. My wife's raspberry vinaigrette tasted like strawberry syrup. Next came the Korean beef and turkey appetizer. The turkey was the highlight of the night, flavorful and well-prepared. The beef, however, was nearly all fat -- one piece was so tough and rubbery I had to spit it out. Our entrées were the Oscar chicken and the 8oz sirloin Oscar style. The moment they reached the table, both my wife and I smelled a strong, unpleasant odor of bad seafood. The crab topping was definitely off -- we both pushed it aside immediately. My steak itself was cooked nicely medium-rare, but between the strange flavor and the bad crab, it was hard to enjoy. My wife's chicken was decent once the crab was removed but extremely dry. As for sides, my garlic mashed potatoes had an odd taste and texture, almost as if they'd been sitting for days. My wife's baked potato was so dry it was nearly inedible. The final bill came to $124 with tip. For that price point, we left very disappointed and both got sick and had to pull over on the way home.While the owner and our server were both genuinely kind, the food quality was not even close to what we expected. Home Grown good ole country food! So, I must admit, this restaurant was one of the coolest restaurants I've seen in a very long time! It has a Scottish feel to it, although I've never been to Scotland, I will compare it to German restaurants. It is very cool, on the outside it is surrounded by trees and that's exactly what the restaurant is built around, so you will see natural live trees on the inside of the restaurant. The food was AMAZING! I mean there was no other way to explain it. I ordered the teriyaki turkey and Korean beef with the stuffed loaded baked potato! OMG! The taste was one of a kind for sure. I also had the sweet tea and whooooo, boy do I miss the sweet tea from North Carolina! The service was great as well. While we were waiting for our food, I went to the back and did a small wine tasting. I purchased a small wine glass with several bottles of wine, in addition to two jars of homemade moonshine jam! Holy cow! I was able to ship this back to Vegas! I can't wait for it to get here! I would definitely say, if you're anywhere in North Carolina or plan to make a trip, that would be the place to visit. It's a lovely, nice, homegrown restaurant and wine shop with other small trinkets to buy if you're interested. Lastly, the most important part is me being home with my father's side of the family. My sister made plans for our whole family this year for Mother's Day. She decided to plan a lunch at Country Squire, in Warsaw NC, due to its exquisite history of have excellent food. On this particular date, this was not the case. The establishment has not been updated, or even kept up. The parking is horrible and I'm saying it's hard to even drive on the parking lot. We had reservations, so we were seated immediately, but this is where the positive comments, with the exception of all the staff being nice and courteous, stops. It took us and hour and 45 minutes to complete our meal. We have a large party, and several people walked in and out, before we even received our food. Incredible atmosphere and service. This place is super cool and has a lot of options. The food was fresh but not quite as tasty as we had hoped and definitely not worth the price (for the food--I'd go back for the service and atmosphere). For appetizers,, onion rings were great. The Korean beef had good flavor but the larger bites were undercooked and the cut was tough. Salads were good--they had homemade dressings. The blue cheese was good but much different than most. The Italian was enjoyed. The filets were good and cooked well. Not a lot of seasoning and the bacon around it was too wobbly for me. We went here for my birthday and stayed at the Inn. Let me describe the package. 1 night King bed, tickets to the local museum, wine tasting, 1 bottle of wine to take home, $40 off of your dinner, and 2 glasses of wine included with dinner for $150 -- WHAT A STEAL Let's start with the accommodations. This place was built in the 60's and has a rustic Scottish vibe. I didn't take any pictures of our room but it was wonderful. In a wooded area with the most gorgeous view. The staff were amazing. So friendly and hands on. The owner was there and gave us a tour and the history of the business. You could really see how much of her heart she has poured into this place. They made a point to make every guest feel like family, and we definitely did. The wine tasting was great and I was VERY impressed with their selection. All of the wine was outstanding. We chose a blackberry wine for our bottle and blueberry wine for our 2 glasses with dinner. The dinner was such an experience. I ordered a Caesar salad which they made right at the table. It had real anchovies and egg in it. A lot of places will use artificial or substitute to cut on cost. She cooked the egg and anchovies with lemon juice which was so super cool to watch. I wasn't sure what to order so they cooked some sample portions and allowed me to try. I decided on the Korean beef and turkey and OMG! It was melt in your mouth fantastic. Since it was my birthday they finished the meal with pound cake and ice cream that was delicious. The next day we came back to the restaurant for Sunday brunch. Since we had such a heavy dinner I wanted a light lunch. I got the chicken salad and fruit platter and it was exactly what I was looking for. We came for our anniversary dinner. Its been closed all the other times we stopped in. The place is lit with candles. So dark and intimate. They offered free wine tastings. Wine tastings are always fun, regardless of your take of wine. I found a couple I did like. They are a little sweet for me. They have a little veggie platter with dinner. Turkey glazed appetizer- yum!- I got prime rib. Stuffed potato. With salad. Hubby had pork chop and same sides. They make their own dressings! The blue cheese was amazing. Tell them how much you want lol. They bring all these little dishes to plop extra of any needed condiments- dressings, sour cream, butter, bacon... Staff was great. Note: This review is for their wine. Excellent flavor, price, and wine selection. At the NC Pickle Festival in Mount Olive the Country Squire Winery tent caught our eye. After, tasting some of the fair's unique creations (like pickle beer), we were looking forward to trying some wine. The tent was well run with employees working each side. As a result, we quickly reached the front of the line. The menu could be easily viewed while in line and was posted at multiple sides of the tent. When we reached the front, one of the friendly, enthusiastic employees greeted us and informed us of the wines available. She allowed us to taste multiple wines. The blackberry and Granddaddy's Smokehouse blend were incredible. Both had rich, full flavor. The blackberry was more like a juice and tasted just like blackberries. The Smokehouse blend was like a bourbon wine. Prices are reasonable. Overall, we had a good experience here and recommend Country Squire Wine to others! read more

I have never been to this place, BUT I got their Granddaddy's Smokehouse white wine, I love it so much!! It is a table wine and has 11% vcol, but you barely taste the alcohol, and it's pretty sweet with smoky undertone, smooth and mild. if you are like me don't really like alcohol but enjoy the flavor and being a little tipsy so you enjoy a relaxing good time with friends, this is the one to go for. First I will say that the restaurant has a romantic ambiance and the food and wine is very good. The staff were very friendly. However the attached decades old motel style lodging needs a huge remodel. Faded and outdated furniture, unsafe wiring on hanging light. No security latch on door. Had to lift the toilet lid to stop it from running to discover it full of black mold. I am sure that in the past this facility was the place to go before the bypass to I-40 was built. read more

We were impressed with the Pinot Noir and Cab Sav/Merlot blend. Also a full bodied Merlot. Most wines are $16. Merlot is $32. Nice discount for six or more bottles. Nicely appointed gift shop. Wine tasting is complete abd entertaining. RESTAURANT: atmosphere is everything. Lots of seating in a variety of dining rooms. One very large room is perfect for events.Lighting is dim. Extremely disappointed. Recently visited with another couple after a 2 year pause. The waitress's service was vey good. My wife and I ordered queens cut prime ribs. I also ordered bearnaise sauce. Our meal arrived and I asked for the sauce and the waitress advised they had none. I should have been advised that when I ordered it. Their beef tenderloin is shown coming with bearnaise sauce - had I ordered IT would it have been delivered without it and then advised it was not available? At first bite our prime ribs were very salty. My wife would not eat another bite. After advising that the chef said they were delivered that way (I believe that is BS) my wife advised she would take a medium rare ribeye. I ate my prime rib but should have also returned it. Although cooked as ordered, all three cuts of meat were less than one half inch thick. You can get better cuts from Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn's. The "made at your table" caesar salad was only OK. The oddest thing about the service was delivery of butter and sour cream for the baked potatoes. You are given a knife, the waitress scoops a spoonful of either from bowls she was carrying and you are asked to scrape off how ever much you want. Weird! The owner is Scottish - is that how THEY do it? Next time, we will go to Ruth Chris - we will not have these issues there. read more

I first learned of the winery at the Sip, Savor & Shop event at the Greensboro Coliseum on April 1st. There wine is perfect for those who love NC muscadine grapes. I grew up eating them. Muscadine grapes are more sweet in flavor. The encounter I experience with the tasting room associate at the event was unique and helpful. She was knowledgeable and fun. I think she had coloful dyed hair. I purchased 3 bottles. Let me say I was having a special event for 40 persons so I cannot say how the regular dining room is but the quality of the food and service at the party was exceptional. The price was very reasonable for a steak dinner including tax and tip. Variety of choices was amazing and every guest I asked was very happy with their meal. Lunch at The Country Squire is truly a delight. Today my brother, nephew and I had lunch and the food was delicious. Two of us had sirloin burgers, and one had Chicken Alfredo. Each dish was prepared to perfection and presented with such Southern flair that one might forget all the world events, and allow a brief respite to kinder times. The "Squire" was all decorated for Christmas and the ambiance was top-shelf. I highly recommend this fine restaurant. read more

I got the prime rib and my husband got the sirloin. Both were fantastic. The crab bowl was good, but my Maryland standards are high and it definitely needed way more crab. Wine is good. Service was not great. Our server took quite some time to come to our table, and when she did her greeting was "ready to order?" She was obviously busy and helping a party of 6 next to us which took up most of her time. Her service got better once they left. Atmosphere is cozy and dark, like an old Scottish restaurant. We also stayed in the vintage inn next door. Vintage is a good word to describe it however it was very clean. Bath towels need to be replaced they are closing in on threadbare. Made a reservation for 12 a week in advance for a birthday party. We were seated in a noisy dining room with literally a post separating the table. Waited an hour for salads and had to hunt down the waitress and ask for them. At the 1hr 45 min mark still no food, although tables all around us were getting in served and leaving. Spoke to the manager/owner who couldn't have cared less. Finally got food after 2 hours. My dinner was $35 - the filet was raw literally, I can eat food a little rare but this was raw. Bread was a soggy top from a hamburger bun. My husband, the birthday boy, couldn't eat his food either. The Bernaise sauce was broken and the shrimp cooked to death. Everyone was miserable we paid top dollar for awful food And worse service. We could have met at McDonald's and done better. This used to be a nice place but they no longer care. read more

Our service was prompt and oh so friendly! The service was fantastic, and our meals were so good! We plan on going back for the full experience, with lodging, dinner, and wine tour and tasting. I made motel reservations 4 months in advance (which included dinner) but because their reservation system is paper-based, my reservation got "lost in the shuffle" (literally). Dinner was excellent...served over a couple hours which was extremely nice. Staff was great. The atmosphere was very unique...something we look for in restaurants. 3 of us went for a birthday celebration - 2 prime rib orders and a 6 oz sirloin ($125 for the meal). The prime rib was over cooked and not seasoned. The steak was the saltiest steak Ive ever eaten. The stuffed potatoes (twice baked) were dry and grainy. The only thing we were able to enjoy was the Shrimp dip. My wife and I went here to check it out after hearing about it for years. We absolutely loved our visit. The complimentary wine tasting was the very first thing offered when we walked through the door. The tasting consisted of ten wine sampling's of our choosing. We enjoyed every one we tried. We then were seated in one of several dining areas. Our waitress soon came and took our order. Our food was very good. We were not very hungry so we both decided on the Korean beef burger. It was so good. I want to go back soon to try the Korean beef which is supposed to be one of their specialties. The owner made sure to check on us several times and all the staff was wonderful. Service was so slow. It took over 1 1/2 hours to get our food. We generally love this place but this visit was very disappointing.

I'm going to try my darndest not to give an obnoxiously long-winded review, though 'The Country Squire' deserves all the credit it gets and more! First of all, the 'Country Squire' is more than just a restaurant. It's also a winery AND a Village Inn. It's located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees, which gives it a very obscure, secluded feeling (in a good way). You honestly feel as if you've stepped into another century (or a movie set), by the time you shut the door to your car. It only gets better once you're inside the lobby! The first thing you'll see is a large room with a complimentary refreshment table, and quaint waiting area furnished with tiny chairs, benches and tables with wine bottle's centerpieces that hold candles covered in multi-colored wax-drippings. There are SEVERAL dining halls to choose from! One hall features portrait paintings that are old and creepy, with typical grim-faced models (and the eyes follow you) but I think that adds to the atmosphere. There are also trees that extend from the floor and up into the roof, tables that are suspended by chains that hang from the ceiling, etc! There is even a rumored haunting that has been investigated by several well-known 'Ghost Hunting' groups. Ask for a historic tour! The buildings the restaurant is comprised of bricks from old buildings and there is a building edition that is dated as old as the 1700's. The main host of the Country Squire Restaurant has a charming Scottish accent and the staff are very friendly and informative. I love that the waitresses wear old-fashioned dresses, aprons, and bonnets. It makes me feel like I'm in a Hobbit town (Forgive my frequent 'Lord of the Rings' references on Yelp. I'm a massive LOTR geek.). A large majority of what is served there is MADE FROM SCRATCH. The croutons, the salad sauce, the rolls, a high percentage of the food, the wine and the dessert -- all MADE there. Just a FEW more perks are: Wine tasting. It's a winery, so you can schedule wine tasting! -- A full bar inside the restaurant. -- A gift-shop full of handmade items from original paintings, unique jewelry, hand-sketched/blown glass -- Etc. Outside, the landscape is absolutely charming with it's old brick walkways, creeping ivy, metal and driftwood benches, wooden gazebo, fountain, etc. If you happen to stay at the 'Country Squire Inn', you can see the gorgeous vineyard from your room window. I think that's all. So much for my attempt at a short-n-simple review. OH!!! Be sure to say, "Hi!" to Willy (or William'ina) -- who is a hobbit-sized mascot in metal armor, usually standing in the lobby. P.S.
