    Delicious German chocolate cake.

Decided to make a visit again for the Thanksgiving buffet. If you look at my picture from two years ago, the turkey this time looks nothing like it. This year looked and tasted like a turkey loaf. The taters and stuffing again were like glue again, and trying to get them off the serving spoon was a feat! Everything else was pretty good, incl the desserts, with one exception. The pumpkin pie was Frozen solid!! What a faux pas on Thanksgiving!! I made the Very young manager aware of it who took them all off the dessert buffet. Very sad. The staff is terrific. Pleasant, friendly, and very attentive. If they'd get those few things corrected that I cited it would be a fantastic Thanksgiving buffet!!

My wife favorite local eatery! I had the Apple salad with Salmon & she, the steak with Sweet potato fries. I enjoyed mine, the wife couldn't finish hers so we took it home but not before dessert- lava cake a la mode and she had a brownie a la mode!

Ate at Mad Boar Restaurant 6/20/26. Fall off the bone Ribs tough as leather. Reordered tenders and of course overcooked!!

Food was terrible! Fall off the bone Ribs were as tough as leather. Reordered chicken tenders and they were overcooked. The picture is what I left after eating one. Don't waste your money!!

Stopped for lunch on the way to Myrtle beach. Average food. Our server Sam was no top of all our needs. Bbq sandwich and old world dip were good. Gravy for dipping had way too much Rosemary and stole any taste of beef. It comes on the side so use it sparingly.

Excellent service and really good food. The Big Chief was outstanding; melt in your mouth pork and a perfect baked potato. The apple pecan salad was wonderful. We had the pretzel bites for an appetizer, and they were perfect! The establishment is really gorgeous, and since it's December, it was decorated for the holiday, and Santa even came by our table to deliver after dinner mints. What a joyous evening. We will definitely return to the Mad Boar.

We stopped near by to charge so my boyfriend and I decided to try a bite for this restaurant. He ordered The Boar Burger and I ordered The Brisket Mac-n-Cheese...spectacular choices from the menu! Boyfriend said, "This burger is bussin bussin. Wow this is one of the best burgers I've had in a really long time!". Nonetheless, the staff members were very polite and attending. The building and the interior have a unique layout, you must see this place yourself!

    Salad was fresh and delicious

This place is nice. If you're hosting a lunch or dinner with the fam or coworkers is is a solid spot. Date night, special occasion def visit this place. The appetizers were good, bang bang shrimp is a HIT sauce was more like thousand island then Thai but it works, i mean gooooddddd. The pretzels are a solid choice too, the queso is superb, i could drink it lol. I got a chef salad with chicken and it really was delicious, i just wish they used different salad parts lol there was over half of the salad was the thick hard center part but the ranch is a mush have. The ham on it was cubed not sliced and the cheese was shredded walmart cheese. Son got the BBQ plate and he said its a must have. I WILL be going back. The only reason this is a 3 for me is because the food (delicious) was very basic, like you make it at home, it wasn't anything special looks wise.... the service was bad. I don't know if i just didn't look like the part or i did something that upset our waitress but it was very negative, I could say more but its ok if people have bad days, were all human. This is an absolute must try, I normally wont go back to places with bad service but I, hands down, will be giving this another shot. Ill post a new review when I do!!!

We had a reuban sandwich and the desparado sandwich with a cup of Manhattan clam chowder. It was really really good and the ambiance was very pleasing. We were next and got the last table for two. The place was completely full. After reading the menu, the daily special was 1/2 price burgers. They also gave first responders 20% off on Mondays. They have specials every night, so it is worth it to check that out before coming in. We started with a basket of hush puppies and corn muffins with yummy molasses butter. If you get in between 3:30 and 5pm, appetizers are 1/2 price Monday through Friday. I can see why this place is so busy! So I decided on a burger, who can pass up half price day? And we also got the knuckle sandwich, which was 20% off for first responders, so my hubs got that. Off to a good start. Also tried fresh squeezed lemonade, really delicious and fair priced. The burger and the sandwich were huge, we both had to take half to go. You get one side for $1.50, but added sides are $4 each. Still ok since the prices are good. There were charges for the added bacon and cheese on my burger but still at half price, it is a great deal. The restaurant is very rustic, pub atmosphere and very relaxed. The bar was completely full, so that must be the highlight of the restaurant. Looked lively and busy. Service is very good, the servers come back to check on you often. Chloe was very sweet and attentive. The only disappointment was dessert. We chose the cake of the day. It was chocolate Bundt cake with cinnamon frosting. To be completely honest, it tasted like boxed cake mix and canned frosting. It was very small, so I knew it was probably cake mix. There was nothing special about this; it was also pretty dry. Even if they purchased their desserts from a local bakery, it would have been better than what we got. I won't say avoid all their desserts, but I wanted to point out the cake specifically. So overall: The prices were excellent, food and service is really great, and the pub atmosphere was nice and comfortable. The plus was that on a busy night, we didn't wait for a table. They do not do reservations so prepare to wait, or just go earlier. I would definitely come back here, and enjoy some more of the large menu. 5 stars

This restaurant by far has been…read morethe most consistent in the quality of the food, which is the best of all the restaurants in the topsail area. It is not fine dining and has the sports bar vibe. It is a relatively small place and I recommend going on non peak hours in season. If you are into oysters, they have a great selection of both local and regional on the half shell. If you prefer cooked, chargrilled or steamed is a good choice. While the menu has a great selection of seafood, the chalkboard specials features extremely fresh local catches which change daily. While there are several restaurants in and around the topsail area this is the only one where I have never been disappointed. If you go at peak hours during the vacation season expect to wait but it is worth it. You can't miss with any of the steamed shellfish offerings and if you prefer fried there batter is light and not overpowering. As a sports bar, they have a large selection of tap and bottled beers and a good mixology of liquor options which is only outdone in my opinion by Rick's in Sneads Ferry

I could've asked the price upfront (and usually do) but what the heck... we're on vacation. The server suggested we get a "double" and share it. OK. Sounds good. It came out quick. There was a TON of food for two of us. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn. It didn't have a lot of seasoning also on it, but - no problem - there was a rack with every hot sauce you'd ever need, plus salt, pepper and old bay. We both ate our fill and even left a few potatoes. The bill comes and it's less than $40. It might be the cheapest great meal I've had in a long time. Or maybe it's the "greatest cheap meal" I've had in a long time... I don't know. Bar ambiance, but pleasant enough for families. Mostly high tables. It all seemed very nice.

Best bite of the night was truly the Rockefeller Oysters, which come with a fresh biscuit but Kyle made sure I had the saltines I really love with them. Those were *eyes roll back in your head* REALLY good, especially for the quality of the cheese. Second best was the Blue crab pasta, which used local crab, but I think average flavor overall. Great portion and loved the capers but, didn't get the depth I expected from shallot and white wine sauce. I wouldn't get the salmon gyros again, even as creative that combo sounds the salmon was overwhelmingly not fresh and there wasn't enough tzatziki to cover it up. We loved the toasted naan and fries. Kyle told us the staff loves to get the salmon gyro but with fried chicken instead, I may try that next time.
