AVOID AT ALL COSTS!…read more Chase built our house in 1998-99, and we've regretted it many times over the years. So many things weren't done correctly: they put on the hardwood flooring and linoleum after the baseboards were installed, so they go up to it, not under (and I'm looking at the curling edges of the lino right now). The master bath shower was plumbed backwards, and they refused to fix it. The roof leaks - to the point that a piece of the kitchen ceiling collapsed 2 years ago. The duct work was uninsulated in the attic, costing us a fortune in extra heat (and preventing us from getting central AC). The kitchen cabinets weren't hung correctly and the countertops are coming away from the walls. The wall to wall carpets weren't stretched when installed and are now rumpled and lumpy in the centers. We couldn't have the light green vinyl siding we wanted ("no one makes that color" they said) - and yet it's on the house 3 doors down that was completed 6 months later. So many problems, all of which have been ours to either fix on our own nickel or just live with - any problem we called them about got a "well, what do you expect us to do about it" reaction, so we stopped calling. The final insult? They took about 6 months longer to finish than they promised, costing us thousands in extra rent. We have family that have worked with other contractors, for both new construction and renovations, and I feel comfortable rating these clowns as the worst we've ever encountered. I'll say it again: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

It was so bad that at our closing he simply walked away; neither the buyer or seller wanted to deal with him anymore. He even pressured an 87 year old neighbor who was dealing with his wife's debilitating illness to sign into contract with him. He has no clue about road associations in Maine and harassed each property owner on our road even though it was not necessary.

I contacted Gage about designing and constructing stairs to our second floor and creating a rec…read moreroom, half bath and storage room. Due to the demolition required to build the stairs, we asked if they could begin that process when we left for an 8 day vacation in January. He agreed and after meetings to tighten up the design and engage his plumber we trusted our home to Gage and his team and left. Before we left he told us he not only planned on building the stairs but basically completing the entire job! While we were gone we got consistent updates, pictures and videos of the progress. When we got back the job was 99% complete. He gave us time to figure out if there were any adjustments to make and took care of our requests. They do good work on an aggressive schedule. We highly recommend.

Village Builders was hired to repour the concrete slab in our basement. When we moved in, we were…read morealerted by the sewer inspector that they had covered up the house trap, which would need to be accessed to clear through a blockage should that happen. We initially contacted village builders to see if they could send someone to uncover it, which would only require breaking through about 1-2 square feet of the slab. We were told that they had actually already removed the house trap during the initial job. We then had another sewer inspector come, who confirmed there was still indeed a working house trap. Of course, a few months later, our sewer did get backed up and overflow a bit into the basement. They were pretty snarky when responding to our request to have the trap addressed, asking "Can you explain to me what your goal here is? I am a little confused. I am not sure what benefit would come from opening up the concrete, if there is an obsolete trap below it - can you explain this intention to me?" I ended up having to bust through the concrete myself, and the trap was accessed by the plumber and an auger was run through the blockage. We resent the picture of the trap to Village Builders, requesting a cover be placed over it. They responded that they would figure out a quote, and then never responded. If you want a job done right and accountability for a mistake, do not hire them. Fixing this problem would have only taken ~2 hours, but they were obviously just annoyed at being asked to fix their mistake.
