The food was perfect! The service was non-existent. The venue is unbelievably cute, located right on the Eagle River. For a restaurant of this location, building and menu, they should absolutely be killing it. But not with the service that's being provided. We felt unwelcome. We came in at 11:06am on a Saturday. No one was there at the hostess stand. We walked in, there were 2 tables of 1 diner each (one inside, one outside). A waitress came around the corner and in a challenging tone said, "How can I help you?!??!" It was as if we weren't supposed to let ourselves in. "We'd like to eat lunch" Again, tone, "We're not serving lunch. We serve breakfast til noon." "Then we'd like to eat lunch" "Sit wherever you'd like" What happened the next 39 minutes was not what anyone would expect out of a small town diner/mexican spot with the CUTEST venue possible. No eye contact. No pleasantries. No refills on water or iced tea (the male patron's coffee was refilled by the other server). When asked for sweetener for the iced tea, not only did she say she thought they were out of all sweetener because of the breakfast rush, she visibly slumped her back, dropped her head, sighed and trudged off. When asked for ketchup for the homestyle potatoes (there are no ketchup bottles out), the same behavior to go and retrieve a disposable ramekin of ketchup. The oddest thing was that there were 2 servers and only 4 patrons. We were never checked on by our server, the younger of the two. The other tables were touched on once each by the other server over the 39 minutes we were there. When a male bar patron came in during our last 10 minutes, he was treated with exuberant hospitality and attention. I tried the chicken burger. I asked if it was a chicken breast and I was told it was fried. The breading was nonexistent and the chicken was rubbery. The buffalo sauce I had on the side, thank goodness was spicy, you could smell how spicy it was. This was not a chicken breast. It was something frozen and there was very little taste and it was so thin it was ridiculous. It was not a chicken breast. Their fries were seasoned and hot. When I sat down, they gave free chips and it seemed to be a homemade salsa which was pretty good but watery. The service was adequate, but I had to ask my waitress to please come over. The venue is excellent. The location is fantastic. Unfortunately I left unimpressed with the food. To cap it all off they charge me for my glass of coke. Interesting way to cap off my meal. We ordered two burgers cooked medium‑well and received them rare and very rare. They were completely undercooked and not edible. Since it was a pickup order, we couldn't even send them back to the kitchen, so we ended up wasting $60 on food we couldn't eat. My husband also ordered the enchiladas, and there was no warning on the site that they were spicy. He could only take a couple of bites, and the dish didn't even look like enchiladas. It looked like soup. Honestly, I would give zero stars if I could. This is our second disappointing experience, and we were really hoping things had improved. Unfortunately, they haven't. Beautiful location soured by terrible food. My 9 year old and I decided to get dinner on our way home. Really nice location along the river. The server was friendly. But, good grief, they couldn't cook a steak! Round 1 both steaks were very overcooked. (we asked for medium) The prepared new steaks for both of us. My second steak was fine. Well, sort of. Was supposed to be a rib eye. It wasn't. My son's second steak was basically a raw piece of meat. So back to the kitchen again. They returned his steak with 1/2 now cooked, the other 1/2 still raw. Back again. When he finally got the remaining 1/2 back we discovered they it was all fat and gristle. The server told me they weren't responsible for that. Eventually they took it off the bill. I was a little hesitant after having not the best lunch experience here this summer, but I was told that their breakfast was very good! So today I decided to give it a shot! I ordered the cowboy burrito (breakfast burrito) with a raspberry mimosa and it was phenomenal! One of the best burritos I've had in the area! The service was slower but being out with a friend, taking our time, I totally did not mind. My kids got the pancakes, eggs, sausage, and fresh fruit. I was very surprised that the fruit wasn't your typical cantaloupe junk. It was raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and all fantastic quality! We left stuffed and very happy with our visit! I am always looking for great new restaurants, I found one. Riding by I noticed the sign but could barely read it as the background and words have similar finish. Location is a 9, right on the river however there is a beautiful grassy flat with benches between the patio and the water that is not in the liquor permit. You can place drinks on the banister and enjoy the river and relax on the bench. I ordered the ribs, baked potato and asparagus and it was 5 star. Bones slid out of perfectly seasoned pork, just used the bbq sauce as a kicker but was not needed. Ex-large potato filled with cheese and al dente asparagus. Great drinks at the well stocked bar, no draft beer but lots of choices. Menu is well balanced with lots of genres. As noted in another review, the service is a bit lacking not that the people were not nice but need procedures and confidence. Hopefully will hire a well seasoned wait-person to train the rest and make the experience fully round. I am a bit confused about some of the reviews as I asked about the ownership and it sounds like it was taken over 1 1/2 months ago. Will definitely go back for more. Highly recommended and right off the interstate, easy to find but turn in is a little tricky. Enjoy! read more

We were passing through on a road trip to Sturgis. We were looking for places that aren't IHop and Dennys for breakfast. We were greeted right away and told to pick some where to sit. Both the people that waited were very attentive when we needed something. The breakfast was pretty basic we ordered the Vintage Breakfast which is 2eggs, toast or pancakes, hash browns or house potatoes, and bacon or sausage. Everything tasted good except my husband had house potatoes which he said they tasted like they were soaked in a spice. The hash browns were better. The only suggestion would be to hang some kind of fly strips or bug zappers because the flys were everywhere. Overall an enjoyable breakfast place on the river. Would recommend. read more

Stopped by this afternoon after shopping to have a beer When we walked in there was a sizable sign that offered three different margaritas for $5.00 each The waiter brought chips and salsa Which was very tasty and we ordered the advertised libations. My strawberry marg was delicious. The negative side of this visit was when the check came. It was $24.00 I objected, mentioning the advertised price. He said that was the "Thursday" special. This being Friday the price was $11.00 each. He adjusted rhe total to 21.00..? That translates into poor customer service and greed. Just saying. read more

I found this place while heading to the Vail airport. Great find. This place is in a great spot with a view on the river. They have a nice dining area as well. The breakfast menu was pretty impressive and they had a full bar with breakfast cocktails available. The shrimp omelette was pretty tasty. This would have been a 5-star review except for the service was really slow for only having one other party dining other than me. I didn't mind too much since I wasn't in a hurry, but I could see some people being annoyed by this. read more

Went as a local to see what the new addition to town was all about...not good. Waited 10 minutes to be seated..no one came..had to ask the bartender if we could get a table..there were only 5 tables taken at the time..server took our order and never saw him again except to ask for the check. We got our food In a fair amount of time..my salmon and mashed potatoes were cold, husband's steak was over cooked and baked potato hard..we had to ask for salt and pepper, sauce for the steak, dressing for salads..napkins. we will not be going back. I love the scenery of the river all Though we sat inside. 1-we got menus 10 mins after we sat down 2-we ordered drinks 2 margaritas 1 michelada 1 Soda 1 water 3-it took 15 mins to get drinks and that was after I got up and went and asked the girl if we were going to get service, the girl had been at the bar talking to a guy. Was not busy only one table was there 4-margaritas came with out ice and no salt Because margaritas were spilling all over 5-dropped food and never asked if we wanted another drink or refills. 6- menu is very hard to read very very small letters. 7-no description on items it just saids "Ribeye" "salmon" No description 8- gave card to server and brought back a tablet to sign receipt, she added 18% gratuity automatically with out asking or even telling me that was added. Until I asked if it was added cause I noticed an extra charge at the bottom of the tablet. I moved here 20 years ago and I used to be a server and worked in different restaurants through the valley, Vail, Avon, Beavercreek. The ambience and location by the river is the ONLY thing remotely good about this place. As a local I was very excited for a new place to visit and even have a beer while I floated the eagle but all it has done is caused the boat ramp to be a complete mess and added no value. Food - absolutely terrible. Eaten here three times to give it a chance and not once was I able to finish any of my dinners. In addition the salsa they gave was in a cup that was the size of a shot glass for a table of 6! Service - well if there was some I might comment but it took hours for get our food in an empty restaurant! Server visited about three times the entire three hours it took to get our drinks and food which all came out incorrect! Wow! What a waste of time. I had mistakenly chose this restaurant on a road trip passing through - thinking it would be a quick pit stop for tacos and fries. Boy, was I wrong. No one to greet me at the host stand for 5 minutes... should have left then. After being told to seat myself wherever, I was given a bar menu specifically for drinks and not food... which would have been fine had I sat myself at the bar I guess? Nevertheless I ordered what I had mistakenly thought were shredded chicken tacos (MY mistake was thinking they were tacos after misreading the menu. They were enchiladas)... however, I had specified with my waitress that I'd like "SHREDDED CHICKEN tacos with no cheese, no green sauce and no beans". I even pointed to the menu item as I ordered. There wasn't a problem until the tacos came with beef. I told my waitress "I thought I had ordered the chicken tacos" her response "you said beef" - which is interesting I would say such a thing considering I haven't eaten beef in about 8 years. Should have left then. (To her credit) She then politely pointed out that the shredded chicken tacos I was originally referring to were enchiladas. My mistake. I reorder the shredded chicken enchiladas same as before - no cheese, no green sauce and no beans. She even double checked with me as she was inputting the new order... 25 minutes pass for some chicken enchiladas. When I received my new order they come smothered in cheese, green sauce and beans. It felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Feels like a bad joke that I'm unfortunately not "in" on! 45 wasted minutes of my time thinking this would be a quick fix. I finally left after this. 2 star review goes to the french fries I ate during my wait for the food I never got to receive! My advice - quadruple check your orders with the wait staff... maybe even a fifth check to be sure. We waited for 20 minutes for a menu and water, 20 more to order, and 40 more for any sort of food to arrive, which was chips and bad salsa that we didn't order. Our water was never refilled without request and a 5 minute delay, and silverware was not provided until the food came out. The burger was fine, but the Mac n cheese was the worst I have ever had, somehow lacking a cheese flavor altogether while leaving a rancid taste in your mouth. When we were ready to leave, after finally having received our food, we had to go inside and actively find someone to let us pay. I was excited to learn that a new restaurant had opened in this iconic landmark in Gypsum. The building and its location on the Eagle River create a perfect relaxed atmosphere. I went for breakfast with a friend around 9am on a Friday. When we entered, a couple of other tables were enjoying sizable plates of food. I was impressed with the variety of options on the menu and ordered a veggie omelet with hashbrowns. My friend got the chorizo and biscuits. We both asked for coffee which came out piping hot and flavorful in large mugs. It took about 15-20 minutes to get our food, a reasonable time. The portions are large! I immediately cut mine in half because I did not want to be stuffed and wanted some for the next morning. My friend could not finish his because he was too full. And it was Delicious! Breakfast/Brunch is my favorite meal to eat in a restaurant and it can be hit or miss. Cowboy Kitchen has nailed it! The ingredients were fresh, the hashbrowns were not overly browned or too greasy which is common in other places, and the omelet was loaded. The server was very attentive without being annoying, probably because she had a wonderful smile and was friendly. We never went without coffee top-offs. I'm looking forward to going back to try the lunch and dinner menus in the near future, and I've already promised to return frequently for breakfast! read more
