We originally had Christmas dinner plans at Hotel Colorado, but after dining there on Christmas Eve and being very disappointed with the food especially for a $250 bill .. We decided we didn't want to risk having the same experience again for Christmas dinner. As we were leaving, I happened to come across Brass & Anvil and decided to call on a whim to see if they had any availability for Christmas Day. To my surprise, they were fairly open and able to accommodate us, which ended up being such a blessing. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Luke (I believe that was his name), a 16-year-old host with the warmest smile and such genuine kindness. He seated us with care and made us feel immediately welcome. Our server, whose name I unfortunately can't remember along with Luke, provided excellent service throughout the entire meal. The food was absolutely amazing! Every dish was delicious, and there was not a single complaint at the table. The drinks were fabulous as well, perfectly crafted and enjoyable. Overall, the entire experience exceeded our expectations!! We had an amazing experience at Brass & Anvil and would absolutely return. I'm sad to write a review like this about a local business but it's worth mentioning. To start out, my boyfriend placed an order for take out and the person over the phone (bartender) was not friendly. My Alfredo was not seasoned in the slightest but the salmon was heavily seasoned and tasted like chemicals. My boyfriend's burger was meh. The cornbread muffin is a joke ($5). We spent $85 dollars on food and ended up with upset stomachs and stopped eating our food. First and last time trying this one out. Expensive ingredients with no skill in the kitchen. The ambiance was great. The owner should rehire the kitchen staff and work on the menu. A beautiful restaurant needs talent. read more

We asked to be seated inside on a 90+ degree day because we were told there was AC on in there. If it was on, it was on too low as our entire party was sweating and sticking to the chairs and benches for the duration of dinner, made worse by the presences of the many cast iron pots that all dishes are served in! Our waiter was friendly but so soft spoken we had some trouble communicating/understanding each other. Food-wise this was an OK experience. Nothing stellar. Our party tried the half chicken, the steak, and the fish for entrees. We ordered the broccolini, the fries, crab cakes and the purple potatoes as appetizers. The purple potatoes were not purple (which was odd?) and you seemingly have to pay for any sauce you want to use on any dish, to the tune of $5-6 a pop! Everyone generally had a "meh" attitude towards their choices, with the exception of the broccolini -- which was considered universally excellent! read more

We enjoyed a nice dinner here! Note that tables are extremely close together-not an issue for us but some may not prefer. Our waitress was very kind. I got three vegetable sides for a vegan option and it was plenty of food! I loved the "purple potatoes" (although not purple) and the mushrooms. The broccolini was also good with quite a kick to it. Very disappointed in our dining experience. Treated as if we were in a diner not a nice restaurant! Before we were even done eating, waitress came by to inquire about dessert and placed bill on the table. We sat down for a relaxed meal before 5:30. There were few tables occupied. No coffee or other hot beverage was offered. And, one waitress was training another waitress. I felt compelled to write the manager a note. The response was unsatisfactory lip service. The inside of the restaurant was cool with myself and other patrons wearing their coats. I asked if they could turn up the temperature. Waitress said she would ask someone to adjust the thermostat. While we were there, it remained cold. As to the food, the 16 oz Delmonica bison was tasty but seemed less than 16 oz. I've dined at this restaurant 3x in the past 4 months appreciating that they offer grass fed, local meats. Perhaps my emails to the manager will spark some improvements in service and ambiance. read more

Our experience started with Avery, an amazing and friendly hostess who kept us informed and entertained throughout the evening. I've never had a pork chop that delicious (and enormous) in my life and can't wait to go back and have the same dish again along with the sides that it came with, the pear and goat cheese salad was also one of my all time favorite salads, this place is a hidden gem. The prices were very reasonable for the area as well. My mother loved the fresh trout and the boys had the sirloin steak that came in a cast iron skillet and was also perfect. Lastly, the ambience was very rustic and made you feel like you were eating at yellowstone ranch, very Comfortable and well decorated. We will be back soon. read more

Don't do it, not worth it. The same owners have an "Aspen state of mind" and are just trying to up-sell anything, without any of the value. Just like the Brass Anvil in Carbondale, the Bull & Buck restaurant in Basalt isn't inviting and the food isn't awesome; plus the staff comes off as arrogant and rude and clearly out to make as much money as possible through up-selling. One drink cost me $14 without tip! Sloppy sales tactic ALERT! Food is seriously nothing special, over-priced and a restaurant clearly owned by people who are focused on money making versus actual appreciation for food, customer experience and specialty drink. I do not recommend this place, they are rude, not culinary focused and not environmentally conscious (use of styrofoam or plastic straws, wasting water, etc). The vibe I got was that staff were CLEARLY not interested in the gastronomic experience or caring for the environment around them, just charging as much as possible. You can get a better steak for a much better deal in the Roaring Fork valley. read more

Our group of friends have been friends for 12 years. We try and get together often but you know how life is, it gets in the way. Any way, we were vacationing in the area and wanted to have a late lunch in town. When we arrived at Brass and Anvil, Dylan was the only server there. He sat us, waited on us, was the bartender and was just delightful! He was very attentive, even though he had several tables, and made us feel like we were the only ones there. Barf emoji for our four terrible flavorless appetizers with unfriendly service that were more expensive--over $100 in appetizers and no drinks for the two of us--as a far better quality delicious meal at one of our favorite restaurants in Aspen. Aloof, snooty, unfriendly staff that you'd expect in Aspen--not in unpretentious down-to-Earth Carbondale. Husband and I were very excited to warm up with "Creamy Chicken Wild Rice Soup." It was not creamy and tasted like rice water. It had no taste. We ordered single corn muffins at four bucks a pop. They were extremely dry corn muffins. The bourbon butter was interesting and perhaps the best tasting thing of the night though it was impossible to spread on the dry corn muffins that crumbled when we tried because the butter was hard as a rock. Crab cakes did not have any crab. They were solid breading cakes disguised as a crab-cake. Tasted like fried breading--like stuffing only not delicious like stuffing--because it was bland. The Google rating is a mirage because this place is NOT good. Overpriced everything including the most expensive steak on the menu which they claim is a Wagyu, my friends and I ordered 3 Wagyu steaks the same way, they lied and said someone else got our steaks and we ended up waiting over 2 hours for the steaks to arrive despite it not being busy. Then the bill was $400....would not recommend going here expecting a true steakhouse experience and definitely very poor value for the amount cost. If you do decide to venture here, avoid the wagyu at all costs, the NY strip for $35 cheaper was probably better. read more

Came here with the family starving after spending all day fishing and nicking, It was our last night of vacation. The Brass & Anvil didn't disappoint!!! We arrived about 30 min before closing so we did need to decide quickly what we wanted. We sat in the bar area and had 2 menus to choose from. The obstinate ass Aka Moscow mule was very good and refreshing! Hubs and I split the Delmonico bison and ordered 2 sides. My oldest also had the bison, middle son had the sirloin and they split truffle fries. Sides were huge and plenty to share. My youngest had the halibut and chips from the bar menu portions were also huge. Other than the pricey menu everything was cooked perfect and the service was great. We don't mind splurging on vacation dinners if the food is good and portions are large. This was perfect last night and plenty of food for a family with 3 teenagers! read more

My husband found this spot on Resy. Everything was just ok. For starters we ordered the corn muffin, crab cakes and Caesar salad. The muffin was super dry. It crumbled as soon as the knife touched it and the chive butter never melted. Moving on to entrees, the 14oz ribeye and rotisserie chicken were good. Shareable sides were ok... the smashed purple potatoes were pretty much extra crispy french fries and not great. Best thing we had here hands down the Maple Butter cake! Our party of two enjoyed a nice dinner on a quiet Thursday evening here. The pork chop entree served with a delicious mustard sauce is huge but a tad overcooked. The calamari and shrimp appetizer is also good. The corn elote was just okay. It tasted a bit like a cheesy corn soup. The bartender did a good job of recommending a beer on tap and wine by the glass. The dining room is nicely furnished and comfortable. Happy hour! I came to Colorado to visit and I love Colorado and their love for happy hour, so when I saw that they had a happy hour menu I of course had to check it out. It was okay. The corn bread muffin was dry and hard as a rock. I've seen other reviews saying the same. I was expecting a soft delicious corn bread muffin. Hoping they can work on that. The broccolini appetizer was super amazing and cooked perfectly. I had the goat cheese salad and it was also good. My partners overpriced steak wasn't that great. 3/5 because it is very overpriced and not super impressive. The high price could have been compensated with outstanding food but I didn't feel like that was the case. Nice atmosphere and nice servers, as well as a cool concept.
