Who said we don't have authentic Chinese restaurants in the north. The Crab House in Broomfield is a hidden gem and probably one of the best tasting Chinese restaurants in town. Most foodies only know it as a popular Cajun seafood restaurant in the area, but what makes this place sparkle is actually its Chinese menu. The chef used to be the executive chef of five star hotels in China and primarily only prepare the Chinese menu for the true connoisseurs. To be exact, they specialize in the Huaiyang and Sichuan cuisines. For foodies who know how the different dishes taste in China, they would not be disappointed here. Ordered fried calamari, lobster bisque, and the fried oyster basket. Two months ago, someone wrote a review saying the calamari was over-seasoned. Well something has changed, as the calamari I got was very flavorless, had to use the lemon and the sauce, and added salt to make those very chewy rubber bands taste like something. The lobster bisque, while having a lot of meat in it, was also rather flavorless. It is like their chef also works for an assisted living center and has completely forgotten the use of salt. Plus, paying $12 for a very small cup of soup with little flavor is robbery. The fried oyster basket was the only shining point of my meal, except that I ordered cajun fries and received regular limp saltless fries. The oysters were good. I guess the reason the food was mediocre was because they were taking their lunch break and just hurried the order. I ordered the food at 13:21 and received a text 5 minutes later saying it was ready. When I walked into the restaurant, the entire staff was sitting around a table eating. While thier catfish was tasty, their tale on calmari rings was dismal. Nothing more than breaded and deep fried rubber bands. The sauce was nice (And btw complimented the catfish), however the calamari was rubber. I've had properly cooked calamari. This was NOT it. Interesting new restaurants that pop up in the Westminster area always pique my interest, and The Crab House was a new addition to the location - I'm a big fan of cajun and seafood flavors, and Westminster isn't super know for having seafood restaurants, so I was definitely excited to try this place out! I've been to the Crab House on two separate occasions, so I think I have a decent holistic view of this restaurant. The restaurant isn't very busy on my two visits (a Saturday and a Sunday around 7pm), so there isn't a wait time and you're likely to get seated almost immediately if you decide to stop by. The service is fast around the times I have visited, and after ordering, you should receive your food in about 5-15 minutes. As other reviews have mentioned, the decorations and interior are a bit corny for a seafood restaurant, but I think it gives this place a certain whimsical charm. I've been able to try the Combos and Po'Boys which I'll review down below: Seafood Boil Combo ($53): The boil comes out to a decent size - split between four people, may be a bit underwhelming since the boil is mostly shellfish and looks to be more than it actually is. Since it is a boil, you get some gloves and a bib to put on, just be prepared to get messy. I thought the flavor was pretty tasty! We got the All In One sauce, which I thought had a nice and tangy garlic flavor with a decent and warming heat. There are also halved Yukon potatoes, headless shrimp, and corn cobs underneath the seafood - these really soak up the sauce. For $53, it is decent given the amount and variety of seafood that you can get here. Shrimp Po'Boy ($11): Similar to the boil combo, it is a little bit underwhelming since the sandwich was a bit smaller than I expected, you only get like 4-5 pieces of shrimp in your sandwich - but the shrimp was fried nicely and the sandwich was hot coming out. There isn't a lot of sauce on the shrimp, so you may feel like you are wanting a bit more dimension to the sandwich. Overall, I thought it was a decent place to fix your cajun/seafood craving in the Wesminster and Broomfield area - you'll probably spent around $11 - $25 for a decent meal here. Though next time, I would just stick with the boil as it seems like what they are best at here. read more

I would see a yes, but when we went in there for my 45th birthday, it smelt like Fabulosa. The only thing I can taste is Faso. The only thing that you can smell is Faso I get it I get it I get it, but Fabulosa is so strong it should be used at the end of the night when you're closing not in the middle of the day when you're still open, I mean come on the smell was so strong that's all I could taste and we're out of fish place. There's crab. It wasn't what I expected. I was super bummed. The waitress did fine but again the only thing I could smell is this fabulous so my suggestion is stop with the Fabulosa or only use like one drop a Fabulosa just way too strong way too strong. I like this place, though I'm a bit concerned that it never appears to be busy enough to stay around. That said, we are lucky to have a local seafood boil restaurant nearby and so I recommend that people check it out! I like the extra spicy sauce. I am a spicy food aficionado and by the end of the meal my nose is starting to run - perfect! The seafood is fresh and hot, the waitstaff are prompt and friendly and they provide enough extras to make a messy meal less so. Food ok. Service is not so great. Been there a few times and not going back after the last visit. They advertise that they are open till 10pm. If you get there at 8:45, like we did, they tell you there open but since it takes twenty minutes to cook, they already closed the kitchen and aren't serving food. This is a restaurant!! We've eaten here a couple times. It's not the cheapest but it's great for a special occasion. The steamed seafood bags are excellent. Generally, the crab and shrimp seem to be the best. I've had some of the other shellfish but the Freshness was questionable. Stick to the basics including hush puppy, chowder and basically anything fried at this place. read more

I love this place! The people are super nice and accommodating. It reminds me of my mom's family restaurant growing up. The seafood never disappoints. My husband gets extra spicy and is the best e've found up north. Not to mention the Michelada is made correctly which is not always the case at many restaurants. I had an itch for a lobster roll and this place was fairly close by . The interior was the usual if not a little corny decorations but plenty of seating. The place was fairly clean and orderly. Our server was good, smiling and attentive. We ordered crab cakes as an appetizer and they were crunchy on the outside also very tasty . The lobster roll was just ok, plenty of chunks of lobster but the roll was just so so and took away from the lobster. For 20 dollars I was hoping for bigger and better but it was ok. The shrimp and crab leg boil was really disappointing. Shrimp was good and easy to eat. The crab legs were like rubber. When you try to open, even the longer legs, crackers did not work, shells too soft, kind of fishy. The lobster roll was lobster and Mayo, lots of Mayo. It needed celery, onion and something else crunchy, like eating paste. Coleslaw, it was like soup, tons of Mayo, two slivers of carrot and runny. Couldn't eat it. If you want an East Coast very casual seafood eating experience, then this is probably as close as you'll get in the Denver area. The interior is cute, very dockside motif. The service was OK. I really enjoyed the hush puppies. I had not had those in many years. I had a combo seafood boil, and was not aware that it comes in a big plastic bag. It was a satisfying amount of food, but a bit pricey. And it was very salty. In my opinion, if you really like Maryland and lower, New England style seafood boils, you will love this place. Five stars. I had my 84-year-old mother and my 24year-old daughter and my 52. Mom voted 4 stars, daughter and I voted 4 stars. So 4 overall. Mom got the fried oyster basket. Oysters were well done. Not cooked too hard so the oyster was nice and moist, great flavor. Breading was crisp on the outside flavorful and moist on the inside. Daughter had the crab leg and mussels combo in the mild garlic butter. She says, delicious; not drowning in garlic butter, but there was plenty; crab sweet and flavorful; mussels were delicious, not rubbery, just right. I had the crawdad boil, Cajun hot. Excellent, nice flavor, plenty of butter, and other spices. Came with mini corn cob and a couple taters. We're nowhere close to the water, bill was $60. Good meal for the price. I loved this place! As a huge seafood boil person I loved the crab and shrimp here. Awesome sauce I recommend the All in one, it was clean, good decor and awesome customer service! They've got everything. Fried things like chicken, shrimp, or fish, and the recipe has been mastered. The waiters are super supportive, cheerful, and food is fast. OK so, I rarely write Yelp reviews unless something is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, and this place is a combination of the two, I think. The food? Decent. It probably would have been a lot better had it not taken almost an hour and a half to make it to our table. Now, I know what you're probably thinking, it was a Friday night, it was busy. Well yes, it was a Friday night, but it was NOT busy. We walked in and got a table right away, and half the place was empty. We ordered drinks, the bar made them, they got to our table. Nothing surprising there. I probably would have had another had our waitress bothered to come by and check on us AT ALL, other than dropping the appetizers off about 15 minutes after we ordered them and to bring us the check much later. Honestly, it looked like she was afraid to come over to our table, especially once the 45 minute mark had come and gone and we were still sitting there hungry and getting agitated. Hell, I wouldn't have wanted to either if I were in her shoes, but if she would have let us know that the boil-in-a-bag meals would take so long to actually make it to us, we probably would have ordered something different, or at least another appetizer or two and definitely more drinks. Bigger bill, more tip money, it all follows, but no, we were just ignored. Womp womp. For the price of the meals we got, I would have hoped for at least a little bit of courtesy if the kitchen was short staffed or whatever (not that we were informed), but hey, my wife wanted to go to Crab House so we went but we won't go back. For the time it took for us to wait for our food, we could have gone down to a similar restaurant in Aurora (or maybe in western Kansas), ordered, ate and been back home if traffic wasn't too bad. My husband mentioned to the waitress that it was my son's birthday, and she asked my son if he would like chocolate or cheesecake. Happy to see it finally open. Stopped in for a late lunch with the neighbor. We were the only ones there, but it was 2:30 on a Monday afternoon. The manager/owner was very friendly and answered all our questions about the renovation of the former Villsge Inn. They did an excellent job. All that doesn't matter if the food and service are bad. Fortunately that's not the case here. We both got 1.5 pound boils of shrimp, mussels and crawfish. It was DELICIOUS.
