This place is fantastic for a number of reasons. First and most important, the crabs have always been amazing. My family has made crab feasts a tradition for longer than my 34 years, and now with crab quality so low (and expensive) in many areas of the Northeast, we depend on The Crab Place. They're amazing. Second, the crabs always arrive in great condition due to their packaging, no easy feat. Third, I've had to reach out a couple of times to change delivery times and once to update an order. DO NOT ORDER FOR SPECIAL EVENTS Paid $100 for overnight shipping for steamed crabs for our wedding reception. No crabs delivered. Crab Place clearly put in the wrong date for delivery- two days after the wedding! Matt didn't care- he was arrogant and rude; never said sorry for ruining our wedding reception and even questioned my claim. Two days later, after multiple calls, he begrudgingly admitted it was their mistake and issued a refund and a credit with next purchase. That's not how you run a business. Shame on him. read more

Let me tell you about this place. Yesterday was my father's 84th birthday. We were all born and raised in Baltimore but we all live in various states of the Southwest now. Everyone came to my home to celebrate with my dad and so I had ordered a bushel to be shipped. FedEx and the weather did not comply and my crabs were stuck somewhere on route. Matt kept checking their possible progress across the US. He then drove another bushel 40 miles to ship when it did not seem the original shipment would make it before all the family departed for their respective homes. He was amazing! After all the hassles of shipping during Hurricane Florence, this overnight shipment arrived about 2 hours before the FEDEX time commitment of 4:30 p.m yesterday. This review is regarding delivery. My family has all moved from the Eastern Shore and finding good crabs has been a challenge since. I wanted to surprise my parents with steamed crabs for a birthday/Mother's Day treat. I researched lots of online stores and took a leap of faith with The Crab Place. They did not disappoint! They were friendly and helpful when I called with a few questions. The shipment arrived timely and crabs were very cold, packed on tons of ice packs. I ordered 1.5 doz colossal males and they were fabulous! 2 were damaged, but I took some loss into account when ordering. Will definitely be buying from here again! read more

Excellent! Food was great, service was good and friendly. Stop there for lunch/dinner. First impression was just another crab shack/bar. Well what do you know, the food was excellent! As fresh as seafood can be right out of the water. We had the fried oyster appetizer to share.10 lightly battered n breaded oyster deep fried without being greasy soggy mess. Delish! My husband got the crab cake sandwich, which was nicely seasoned and broiled to crispy crust outside jouicy inside, plus generous portion to boot. This came with fries which cut in semi spiral slice, like what you would do apple for a pie, then lightly battered and fried to crispy outside. I got fish the tacos, which came in trio you can choose between rock fish and shrimp or mix n match. I did 2 Rock fish one shrimp. The fish/shrimp was lightly batteted n fried served on flour tortilla top w generous heap of mix coeslaw and cheese. The dressing on the coeslaw was very nice, crunchy w a kick of horse radish. So fresh, fusion restaurants in any metropolitan area would envy. The taco came with light n fluffy hush puppies. So much food that I was so full. The price tag? $10 for 10 fried oyster. $12 a piece for cc sandwich n taco. I normally do not like fried food at all, but this is goood. Go try it. read more

I went to the crab and cruise this past weekend. The crab feast was great. Our waitress was so wonderful that we gave her $40 only because it was all the cash me and my sister had. The crabs were huge and all of the food was tasty. The low rating is for the cruise. The boat is nothing like what you see on the videos. You actually wonder if it's safe before you board. We were told to use the bathroom before you get on the boat because there's only 1 bathroom that serves both men and women. The music wasn't the advertised genre, but pop and rap. There was no dancing because of the wrong music. We paid extra to be on the upper deck. They evidently oversold tickets because we ended up sitting on lawn chairs. I recently attended my first crab cruise with the Crab Place, and I must say it was fabulous!!! The food, music, and atmosphere were all very wonderful. The restaurant and its' facilities are very clean. And when I arrived, my reserved spot had all of the necessary crab aids. I also enjoyed the cruise. Everyone was allowed to bring their own drinks! I've ordered jumbo crabs twice and 100% satisfied. Crabs were big, extra seasoning was spot on. Arrived packed well and 8 ice packs for 1 dozen of crabs. I ordered from their competitor and will never order from them again. This place is cheaper, much better quality, big sizes and this order had 2 extra crabs. I lived in Maryland all my life until I moved to Chicago over 25 years ago. It great to know that I can count on The Crab Place if I want to get my crab fix. My wife ordered a bushel of crabs 2 weeks in advance for Father's Day, delivery was for Saturday. My wife checked to see where the delivery was Saturday and it said 6 hrs away and delivery was Tuesday. She called and emailed with little response, the crab place said it was fed ex problem. No complaints here. Ordered 3 lbs of lump crab meat on a Sunday night for delivery Xmas Eve which was 2 days later. I live in Cali. a long ways from MD. Crab arrived on time and was fresh and cold in 3 tubs. I refrigerated and then transported to a party an hour away the next day. Used 2 tubs to make some whopping crab cakes Xmas day. Took the last tub back home (another hour long trip) and used it 2 days later to make some more killer crab cakes. All of this is to say that it's fresh stuff..it held up to additional transportation..yes I used cold packs but fish can be touchy so it's a gamble if it's anything but really fresh! I didn't have to correspond with the seller (and that's a good thing!) but from what I have read they sound like VERY fair folks. So I will definitely purchase again..in fact I'm placing my New Year's order tonight. Every one is looking forward to more crab cakes. Thank you very much! read more

This was our second time ordering crabs. Our first order was in February and we may have been a little too optimistic about the quality of the crabs that would be available at that time. We contacted The Crab Place about our disappointment and Matt reached out to us with an offer to "re-do" part of our order and suggested a better time of the year to order. Extremely disappointed, my first time at the Ultimate Summer Crab Party. We paid $550 for 2 VIP tickets. Waited in a long line to get in, we had to get our own drinks. We waited in line for a hour for a pineapple drink, chef tables long lines. We decided not to wait for the special dishes available due to long lines and heat. I drove almost 4 hours for this. Should've paid for the lowest price tickets (same service across the board for everyone). When I asked the host what is the difference for VIP holders he said you get to sit up front to see DJ Jazzy Jeff. Really you can hear the music 3 blocks is this what we paid for! That was all we recieved not to mention no cruise. The host said several times there were many of hiccups and I had to pay for those hiccups. And to add group A holders were at the same table as VIP to make room because they decide to put 800 people under a tent for the first time. This was not well plan and my first experience was awful. Never again and I'll be sure my friends and family don't fall for the okie dook either. read more

Honey let me tell you The Crab & Cruise in Crisfield, Md is a WHOLE Experience. I attended the Jumbo Crab old school hip hop & R&B Crab & Cruise on 8/17 and although I initially felt like it was a little pricey I left feeling like it was worth every cent and more. The crab feast was everything the crabs were truly jumbo and came out hot, fresh and frequently. Although I wanted to focus on mainly eating as many crabs as I could I did taste the other food ribs, corn on the cob, hush puppies, buffalo wings, steamed shrimp, Soda and Beer. Everything was very good!!! After the crab FEAST we went up the road to board the boat for the Cruise portion. The boat had 2 Floors with DJs on both floors. You were also allowed to bring your own drinks and coolers on the boat and they and the boat provided cups, ice, water & soda. They also had fresh, big juicy raw oysters with the fixins and they were delicious. Now when I tell you we partied on that boat we PARTIED!!! DJ Cleve on the top floor turned that party out and kept the party so live no one could sit down. This event has my total stamp of approval and if you get the opportunity GO!!! I'm gonna tell u what u really need to know. We got there 15 minutes before it was supposed to start so we missed the how to eat crabs demonstration although there was a lady up front still demonstrating if u asked. They gave u a table and seated you. It was already pretty full and a very large place. The first thing they did was bring your drinks about five minutes to four. Then came the corn on the cob which was very good grilled to perfection. Next was the ribs, wings, meatballs and then about ten after four came the crabs. Mmm mmm good. We also had fries, hush puppies, and rolls. Our waitress was very good. You had a hammer and plastic knife on the table but I suggest u bring your own cracker and rubber gloves. The crabs are covered in old bay. I noticed there were no kids and at these prices u know why. The music was really good. Old school R & B. They played a couple of line dances closer to 6pm and the crowd filled the floor. At first it doesn't seem like 2.5 hours is long enough but it was really plenty. The cruise left at 6:30 and we were ready to go. They also stopped the music to acknowledge birthdays and anniversaries. At 6:30 we moved down to the cruise. All I can say is that it was excellent. The music and the people. They had soda and water, ice and cups and of course the oysters. The tour guide was good and we got back at 10 on the nose. Just know that there are only two bathrooms on the boat and smoking is allowed in one section on the bottom deck. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the tables in the restaurant were too close together, they allowed smoking outside too close to the building and the fries did not come out hot. I ordered from the crab place for my 25th birthday which fell on a Sunday this year. I live less than five minutes from a place who sells crabs and a bushel was $260. I decided to do my homework and see if I could get the crabs from somewhere on the shore and was willing to drive. As a hospitality/culinary major as well as a Maryland girl, I know a fair amount about delicious blue crabs. I began researching and reading yelp reviews about ordering crabs and after reading what I felt were VERY mixed reviews I ordered from The Crab Place. I am so happy I took the chance and was beyond plesed with the quality, delivery, and overall experience with The Crab Place. My crabs were delivered Saturday afternoon by 5 pm and we just kept them in a refrigerator until Sunday afternoon. They were a great size, tasted awesome and were beyond reasonably priced.$180 for a bushel. After researching the negative reviews for this company a common trend arises, most unsatisfied customers are ordering from very far away and when MARYLAND CRABS are NOT in season! POOR customer service!!! Do not order from them if you can't see your crabs before leaving. They will send you crabs sizes smaller than what you paid for. Then tell you to ship them back and require tracking to replace them after they made the mistake. Send people the size crabs that they ordered and not short change them. The manager wants me to pay to send crabs from California back to Maryland in order for him to correct what is wrong. I have already paid for expensive next day shipping to get the WRONG size crabs. The right thing to do would be to just ship the crabs that I ordered, refund my money or send a courier to pick up the wrong crabs that he told me that he won't be reusing. But he'd rather be petty and tell me to reship them via ground in order to make my order right. There says 100% satisfaction guarantee. That is a lie!! read more

I decided I wanted to treat myself to a nice crab feast for Mother's Day . Although crabs are quite available here in North Carolina and I definitely know how to cook them, I think I must have been homesick and just wanted a taste of home. NOTHING like a MARYLAND BLUE CRAB! No thing!! So I began to search the internet and decided I wanted to try different places and make my own judgement. Now, I know my way around a blue crab. After all , I had an uncle back in the day that owned a fish wagon. Every Saturday morning uncle came by. We had fish , shrimp, and crabs when we may not have had anything else. As a little girl I sat on many a curb and cracked crabs in my brown paper bag! So I decided to go with The Crab Place and another place...that starts with an "L". The orders were placed on the same day and they arrived together by Fed ex on Saturday afternoon.i opened both boxes at the same time. The crabs from this place was packed nicely, seasoned as I requested. I ordered the colossal males and a dz. large females. All the crabs were nice weight. Nothing strange on them . I loved the simple fact that the box had a packing slip affixed. It also contained a measuring ruler, paper table cloth and the styrofoam box was taped nicely. The ice packs were STILL ice and the box was nicely cooled. I tasted one of the female crabs which was cooked nicely, not mushy and overcooked. I also joined the VIP Club here to save on future shipping. Every positive thing I experienced here, I did not experience at the other place. I will definitely purchase from The Crab Place again! After many years of being a customer with no complaints whatsoever (4 orders in the last 12 months), I had a batch of crabs in which several crabs (8 - 10 was my estimate) were inedible given the smell...stench really. I wrote a note to let them know of this and was told that I could have a dozen free crabs on my next order to make up for the inconvenience. As I do not want any more crabs this year and I am not sure that I want to order again from the place that sent me some really bad crabs, I let them know I would prefer a partial refund. Apparently the matter was referred up the line as the COO wrote me a note asking for details on my issue - which were clearly stated in the email messages that were part of his note to me (right below his note actually). Pointing this fact out was not well-received as I suspect the matter was deemed to be too small to warrant looking into prior to contacting me but still not the client service that I hoped to receive. It was also pointed out to me that I was not making things easy for them. After a few more messages back and forth, I was told that there were a 1/2 dozen "buffer" crabs in my original order (standard practice I am told) and that the bad crabs I received would be netted, so to speak, against the bonus crabs in my order. I never counted the total number of crabs in the box and the website says "Approx. 6 Dozen" for the order I placed so it is curious to me that we now have an precise data on exactly how many extra crabs I received. In any event, so now I am somehow down to only 2-4 crabs that were actually paid for that are worthy of a refund. On an order of almost $350 (includes shipping), I am to receive a $15.99 refund [equal to 3.6 crabs]. There are a few other options for ordering blue crabs online and I will be checking them out in the future. read more

As a native Marylander in Colorado I had accepted the idea that I never be able to get 'real' crabs here. I took a flyer on overnighting some steamed crabs and shrimp to Boulder for my bday and was really quite impressed. Pretty heavy, well seasoned, cooked right and EASY to unpack warm and eat...I really can't complain. They sent me 14-15 to account for any suboptimal crabs in my dozen but they were all just fine. Unless you're in Maryland and can get em fresh out of the steamer, this is a very close proxy. Good product. read more

They were a decent size, however, the taste and consistency of the meat was not pleasing. Being that I have ordered several times before, I decided to call them 1st thing Monday morning to give provide them feedback on this experience. I was told someone would be contacting me to further discuss my dissatisfaction. I gave my email address as well as my telephone number. At this time, I have received no communication from anyone at their company. We are land locked and ordered 1/2 bushel of crabs shipped fed ex. They were great. They come in a cooler, packed in news paper and ice packets. It was a hot summer day and weren't delivered until late afternoon. Still all was nice and cold. It took us 2 days to eat them all and they were still fine the 2nd day. My family and I did this yesterday on 7/13 for the 70/80s old school R&B crab & Cruise. Babyyyyy when I tell you this was the absolute bomb.com, I MEAN IT!! Everything was so organized and on point. Their customer service was impeccable! We had a group of 4 and we arrived about 3:45pm to check in. We had assigned seats so there was no confusion. At 4:20 they brought out beer as promised. About 4:25 our server Annah brought us butter and seasonings and any other drinks. At 4:30 sharp they brought out sooooo many huge crabs and just dumped them on the table! There was soooo much. I thought they'd let us eat crabs before they brought of the rest of the food but no, the food kept coming. The ribs, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, more crabs, jumbo steamed shrimp, wings, the best corn on the cob I ever tasted. And by the way, the ribs were falling off the bone! For 2 hours we just indulged in unlimited food. We never had to ask our server for anything, she was right there bringing more food and more drinks. At 7pm we drove about a mile down and boarded the cruise. Just amazing! Good music, good vibes while the sun was setting. It was byob which was fine. I ordered 1/2 dozen of Colossal Male crab and Jumbo 1 dozen if Female crabs to be delivered Friday April 20, 2018. So I received a email today from Carmen Thomas who works for their customer service. All I have to say is their customer service is on point. There was weather issues windy for fishing for colossal crabs which she explained. Then she said she was gonna give me Premium Jumbo and throw in some extra crabs for my inconvenience. I also had the option of the same order but get the money back of the difference. I said I would take the extra crabs. Lol Carmen was very helpful and very nice. They definitely are on top of things. Making the customers feel good and making them feel like the number 1 priority. 15Nov2019: Born in NJ, raised in MD, been back in NJ for 18years, I long for the taste of MD crabs smothered in Old Bay and seeded red peppers. My son came home from MD last week and only had 3 lonely blue crabs left from his dozen and none for me! I searched the internet and the local CBS news station had an archived news story on "Best Crabs?" Walla, the Crab Place. The crabs came as ordered, no mushy crabs, all crabs were weighty. I would definitely order again. The only draw pack was the seasoning and spices. Although I buy crabs in Maryland from the usual suspects, I would prefer a little more spices on my crabs besides Old Bay. read more

Was just puttering on yelp and saw the reviews for "the Crab Place." When I saw some of the negative comments, felt I had to put in a review. We have ordered jumbos a number of times, maybe 10-15, and have always had an excellent experience. Order comes when it is supposed, the number of crabs is always more than what is ordered, and the size is accurate. They are spiced perfectly, and have always been delicious.We will be ordering again soon. I have never ordered live crabs, but I specifically remember seeing the warnings about ordering live crabs on the website. They quite specifically recommend against it. I'm a little concerned about this post because my issue is still ongoing. I've read the reviews (and wish I had prior to ordering) and I agree with some aspects of them given my own experience. On the positive - I'd say the website was great - easy to follow, looks professional and honestly met what I had expected it to be. I think it gave good detail on the products and made my purchasing experience a pleasant one. Although the shipping was pricey - I expected that because I've ordered live seafood from many locations several times and knew it wasn't going to be cheap. The package arrived timely, in tact, and all outwardly appearances were good. Although Fedex didn't adhere to my delivery instructions - it truly wasn't an issue because I was here when they arrived nor was it the fault of the company. However, this is where my positive rating ends unfortunately. I immediately opened the box of what was supposed to be 3 1/2 dozen LIVE crabs and much to my dismay quickly found out that of the 38 that were in the box, 35 of them were dead and the remaining 3 on their last breath (literally). So let me repeat again that I've ordered LIVE seafood many times and fully expect to see a certain level of deadloss - its inevitable when you are shipping something thats alive and thats why I even sprang for the overnight delivery as to limit their time confined. They are very upfront on their website that it's a possibility that you will experience SOME loss and it seems the magic % is around 15%...or at least thats figure the website repeatedly uses. Despite that, I was more in the mindset to expect about 25% of them to be dead - and would have been OK with that. But I must say having 92%, and ultimately 100% loss threw me for a loop and really put a damper on the surprise birthday party goers that afternoon. So after my immediate anger subsided, I sat down to email the company to let them know what happened so I could stay within their 24 hr notification requirement. And yes, I was upset as I think any reasonable person would be. After that time, I did go back to review the ordering policy for Live crabs again to ensure I understood it fully. I had read it as part of the ordering process and just wanted to be sure I didn't misunderstand something. It's unfortunate that the company doesn't honor refunds in these situations but I can also understand the position they are in - I'm sure there are some people that would be less than honest about the deadloss. So - the credit for the same item, steamed, I'm OK with. Not ideal because honestly I probably wouldn't have ordered from there again but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and use that credit. Here is my HUGE issue. I expected that should I reorder that I would also be credited the shipping cost...it makes sense to me. Remember how I said it was pricey? Well, I paid $90 for overnight shipping for an item I paid $118 for. Fine - I chose to do that. But given the circumstances, I would have expected the company to credit me that cost as well. I am quite sure that their expense would NOT be that expensive and as a good faith effort to provide GOOD customer service there should be some consideration. So my options are to be out the total cost of the original order including shipping or to spend another $75 to have the new order resent. So at the end of the day, I'll end up spending more on shipping by ALOT than the actual cost of the crabs themselves. Something is wrong with that picture. Matt was quick to respond to my emails and as much as he said he was apologetic - he basically referred me back to the online policy and reminded me that it was at my own risk that I ordered these items. Then, I get an email asking me to share my feedback on their Facebook page - really? I've since gone back and read that for a 3rd time and I still do not see any reference to the shipping being done at my own cost. So it appears, based on their policy, I gambled and lost. What kills me is their lack of basic customer service skills. How about do what's right by the customer - cough up 1/2 of the shipping cost even - that would be something. But to basically shut it down by referring to "policy" is just ridiculous. In reading other's posts here I take some limited comfort in knowing it's not just me and took a hit. After I have my 2nd "credited" order resent I will likely not use or promote this business again. They'd have to completely WOW me to change my mind on that - which is unfortunate because I could hae been a lifetime, repeat customer. I also expect that I'll have a comment on this post about how I should pay attention to the live ordering policy or some other reason why they wouldn't liable for my experience. Instead, I'd challenge The Crab Place to step up, show their customers that they truly do care about their customer experience and make it right. Only time will tell... read more

First let me say that I am have been eating crabs since I was knee high to a grasshopper born and raised in Baltimore. But since moving away, I opted for delivery instead of a trip to Maryland. The crab place does sell well prepared crabs, fresh and seasoned to taste, but they fall short in customer service. The bait and switch, or bad business ethics is something I won't let slide. Second time is not a charm, I ordered large crabs for delivery from The Crab Place in mid June. Large females 3 1/2 dozen medium seasoning shipped overnight for 137.00. The crabs arrived and they were a decent size, what I would expeect for a large crab. My family enjoyed them, and we decided to order again for the 4th of July weekend. Again, I ordered large females 3 1/2 dozen medium season, and what I got was a great dissapointment. The crabs are measured from shell tips to determine sizing. Although a few measured 5 1/4 inches, these where the smallest crabs I've ever eaten. I never buy small crabs because I don't like wasting my time picking a teeny tiny shell only to pull out a slither of meat, I know the difference between a small crab and large crab. Fast forward to me calling Matt, one of the owners who explained that the first time I ordered someone mistakenly gave me jumbo crabs instead. SERIOUSLY!! I did not just fall off of the dumb gum tree. I was OBVIOUSLY shipped small/meduim crabs and he was to money hungry to admit the mistake. He did offer me a free dozen of jumbo crabs if I orderd a half bushel of jumbo crabs. Get real, this is the kind of bad business practice that needs exposing, because after spending more than 274.00 in less than a month others need a warning OVER PRICED!!!!! Do yourself a favor and take a ride to Baltimore or any where other than this place. read more

I ordered one bushel of steamed male blue crabs from this company last weekend. Just a few hours after eating, I came down with the worst case of food poisoning (by far) I've ever had that nearly sent me to the ER. Others in my group that consumed the crabs did not get sick for full disclosure. The crabs are steamed at the restaurant and shipped overnight on ice - but they don't recommend you reheat them to any particular temperature to kill bacteria that can occur along the way. We reheated them just a bit because didn't want to dry them out and what a mistake that was. Have never been so sick in my life. Have eaten crab for 20 years with no issue and first time ordering from Crab Place resulted in this. Just as bad as the food poisoning was their customer service. After asking repeatedly over email to speak with the owner, they finally connected me with him on email. Matt refused to accept his company's responsibility for this, at all, and refused to speak to me on the phone saying that would not solve anything. They refused to issue a refund of any kind unless I shipped the unused crab back -- which of course in between four days of constant bathroom visits and my fever that topped out at 103.6 was right at the top of my mind -- and I had thrown away.
