Went here for lunch on a Monday while on a road trip. First tip, they are cash only. While my…read morefriend went to the BP next door to grab cash, I got a table. The waitress was super accommodating because we had a child with. Right away, she asked if we would like crayons or cars. The toy cars were a huge hit for the child and kept him entertained the whole time. It was a great thing since the restaurant was pretty full. As for food, it was standard diner food, just what I wanted. I got the veggie omelet, which was pretty good. It was a very thin egg layer and filled with veggies. I think the mushrooms were canned, but they didn't necessarily taste like it. The rye toast was also tasty. My friend got the beast burger, which we thought was super interesting to have that combo of meats on the menu. It did need some condiments as the combo of lean meats made it a little dry, but it had a good flavor. We also got the 9er, which was just the right amount of food for a child. Overall, we had 5 star service and the food was just what we needed on the road trip.

The service was less than welcoming but nothing to make us want to leave. Good parking. Small town restaurant. We might give them another shot when we come back to that area of town.

Our stay here was perfectly acceptable. It's a no-frills place in the Park Falls, which is in…read morepretty rural northern Wisconsin. The lodge has about a dozen rooms or so, and while they're small they are perfectly fine for sleeping which is what most anyone around here is going to do anyway. I happened to be in town for a family reunion but a lot of folks are going to be here for the hunting, boating, or other recreational activities that the area has to offer. There's a small restaurant attached, which we didn't visit whilst here. But there were definitely folks from town stopping here and not just the few of us staying at the hotel. Honestly it was pretty unexpected that there was a restaurant/bar here given how small the place is, and there's not a TON of restaurants in the area, so it's a nice feature. The woman who checked us in was nice and showed us to our rooms. I really appreciate that they have serious locks on the doors, electronic locks--it helped me feel much more comfortable since the other deterrent to entry is a simple chain on the door. We had two rooms, one with two full or queen sized beds and the other, a family room, had a full bed and then a bunk. The bottom bed of the bunk beds was a full size. I wasn't expecting a bunk (though luckily wasn't planning on staying in that room) but it's important to know since a bunk isn't everyone's thing. What was unfortunate is that when my mom made the reservation back in April, she asked if they had cribs in the room as we'd be traveling with my newly one-year-old. The person said "oh yeah we should get one of those..." and assured her they would have one by late July, when we visited. When mom called in June they said they didn't have one. Rather than make my mom stress about finding a new place I bought a play yard for the baby but that pretty disappointing and made for more for us to have to travel with. They also seem to have only showers, no bathtubs (at least in the two rooms our party was spread amongst) and the water smelled a little strange, perhaps just well water; not a sulfury smell. Overall a very casual place. There's ample parking here, more than will ever be needed for this lodge. The A-Frame doors are open 24 hours. Given the location and type of accommodation, though, they aren't open 24 hours for check-in. You'll want to be sure you confirm when you can check in and then make sure you'll be there in plenty of time to do so. There's not a check-in desk or anything, so just head to the bar.

The rooms are simple but clean and a really great value. Highly recommended if you are traveling on a budget or just want to stay somewhere cozy and safe. The Loon is quintessential Wisconsin vibes.
