The first time I met Dennis it was clear he knew his stuff. I had a list of DJ's and even some meetings set and when I left I cancelled every one. He was the DJ at our August 2013 wedding and I couldn't be happier. The reason our night was as amazing as it turned out was in a large part due to Dennis. He is an incredible emcee and the night flowed so smoothly. There was never a dull moment. The thing that impressed me the most is that when my husband and I finally sat down at our sweetheart table he asked if he could get us a drink. SERIOUSLY?! Come on guys, that is rare and just seriously amazing. I had a few unique requests that didn't even phase Dennis! The most important to me was meshing two very different songs for my father/daughter dance. I wanted to dance to one song, more of a pop-type with my biological father and to a country song with my step dad, not an easy thing to mash-up! I also wanted the two to fade into each other and be cut down so the dance wouldn't be two full songs. The final product blew my mind, it was perfect. He even slowed down the country song so that it was more "danceable." The way he invited my step-dad out to the floor was classy and casual, it wasn't an awkward moment which was what I was concerned about. He absolutely did EXACTLY what I asked for. I got countless comments on the way the evening flowed. With Dennis you get way more than a DJ, he is an amazing emcee. So many people told me it was the most fun wedding they'd ever been to. The music was SPOT on all night, it was a blast. The dance floor was constantly packed and even my older relatives were out there dancing because the music didn't alienate them. My husband and I told Dennis all we wanted was for people to have fun and dance, and they did all night. He found a way to satisfy everyone's music tastes (even though I like country, my husband likes reggae and my parents like classic rock!). Last minute we sprung for some up-lighting. It isn't my style to go outlandish and I was worried it would be too expensive, but I wanted the room to have a little something extra. Not only was the pricing totally reasonable, but Dennis actually made us a custom light color to match our accent color in the table linens. The room was bathed in a soft glow and looked absolutely perfect. He goes so far above and beyond what you'd expect from a run-of-the-mill DJ, and that's simply because he isn't one! (I don't think I'm being biased but) our wedding was hands down the most fun event I've ever been to and I think a large part of that is because of Dennis. Simply put, Dennis is on point! My husband and I were trying to keep things simple on the night of our wedding reception so we didn't hire a wedding planner, and really didn't think we'd need a real DJ and could get by with maybe a set list or something. Then we thought we'd hire an uber cheap DJ that would just play music off of a computer. Then after coming to our senses, we sent an inquiry to Dennis to ask about his DJ services. We had Dennis DJ our wedding last month and truly could not have been happier with the selection. If you don't read another word of this review, simply take away my 100% without hesitation recommendation of Dennis' DJ services. At our first meeting with Dennis, it was instantly apparent that he was more than capable. His music knowledge alone was beyond impressive. At that time, we didn't yet have very specific ideas of what sort of "vibe" we wanted for the wedding but we knew what we didn't want. We didn't want to hear any typical corny wedding songs (see: We Are Family), we didn't want any trance/House-type music, and we didn't want a cringe-worthy cheesy DJ. I personally wanted to hear lots of 50s and 60s golden oldies during dinner as a tribute to my dad who loved oldies so much. Dennis completely understood our concerns and said he prided himself on NOT being one of those cheesy wedding DJs and was happy to oblige any of our music preferences. Basically, we just wanted to keep the dance floor packed all night long. We booked Dennis for our reception DJ a couple of days after our meeting and were confident that we had made an excellent choice. And we were so right! We had one special request for Dennis. My family is Greek and we wanted to do a few traditional Greek dances. Emailing back and forth with Dennis in the weeks prior to the wedding, he was very helpful suggesting times in the night when we could do the Greek dancing while still keeping the party going. I was thrilled that he was so happy to help us make the night go as smoothly as possible. The wedding reception was better than we could have imagined. When introducing our family members giving toasts, Dennis was eloquent and energetic. He was sure to know the names of each speaker and their relation to us. During the Mother-Son dance and the Mother-daughter dance, Dennis helped to make the moment so special with his kind words and remarkable introduction. The evening felt very personal, exactly what we wanted. We even had guests ask if Dennis was a friend of ours, as he seemed to know us so well. On to the party! Dennis did an AMAZING job of incorporating all our selected song preferences into the evening. Everyone loved the oldies during dinner and before the toasts. All of the kids were on the dance floor doing the twist which provided some fantastic dinnertime entertainment and gave us some amazing photos. Once the open dancing started, Dennis was brilliant at reading the crowd. He played song after song of our favorite dance tunes which kept the crowd moving all night long. He even put on some classic 90s hip-hop which everyone loved. We had provided him with a list of songs that we wanted to be played during the night and he incorporated them in perfectly to keep up the party mood. Dennis also offers various lighting options to enhance the reception atmosphere. Since our reception would be help outdoors in the evening, he suggested dance floor lighting to provide more lighting for the photos and to really spotlight the dance floor. His prices for lighting are also extremely reasonable. Looking back, we are so pleased we included dance floor lighting. The photos really did turn out better with the added illumination and our guests felt like we had put a lot of thought into the aesthetics of the reception. Now, weeks later, we STILL have friends and family commenting on the music at our reception. We just had Dennis Dj our wedding this past weekend. Let me just say that he is truly a great DJ. When we first met with him we knew that we had to have him as our DJ. Since we booked him he kept in contact with us communicating every detail he needed to give us the wedding of our dreams. Dennis J worked it at our wedding 7/28/12!! We have been slacking on doing his Yelp review, but since then we hold him in high regards, especially after going to a few weddings after ours. Dennis put in SO much time into discussing our reception, selecting music (which was a challenge with 4 generations of 3 different cultures attending) and ensuring our day went smoothly. We were doing a DIY wedding reception and couldn't afford a wedding planner. Much to our relief, Dennis helped keep the reception on track, kept people entertained and on the dance floor (including our parents and relatives from Panama!) until our curfew, and was always professional. He has amazing DJ skills (uses real turntables and mixes it all himself) and reads the crowd constantly. He came out the night before and set up all his equipment, ensuring lights and sound were perfect until the wee hours of the morning before the wedding. Some DJ's we interviewed were cheaper, but after seeing all the work Dennis puts into your party, it is very much a deal he is offering you. Our guests are still raving about our party a year later, and we have definitely noticed the difference in quality after attending 4 other weddings after ours. Dennis was the DJ at my wedding one week ago. He ROCKED it! Dennis is patient, professional, funny, and extremely helpful. It is clear he is passionate about music and this comes through in his performance. When we first met with Dennis he took as much time as we needed to go over the entire wedding timeline/process. Dennis took as much time with us as needed and I never felt rushed. My fiance is a huge music guy but Dennis kept checking in with me to ensure my musical tastes were also represented. I remained in contact with Dennis throughout the wedding process. As the wedding date approached we met with Dennis again to go over everything. We did not have a wedding planner or day-of coordinator and Dennis did an excellent job of providing feedback and suggestions for our timeline. Again, I never felt rushed and Dennis took the time to explain everything...even some things multiple times since I was in a wedding "fog." At the actual wedding, Dennis outperformed my expectations. He took the time and care to make sure everything ran smoothly. I felt completely confident in him. He even had a special surprise for us that really blew us away! The music was such a success. There were family members on the dance floor that I have NEVER seen dance in my life! My father-in-law and 80 year old grandma were even dancing! This is going to be an extremely thorough review of all of our interactions from start to finish. I'll spoil the ending, he is awesome and worth every penny :) When I first contacted Dennis it was through email and we went over all of his different packages. He not only is a DJ but also provides uplighting, pin spot lighting (for the cake), dance lighting, and monograms for the dance floor. He also provides music for the ceremony, before it actually begins (seating music), and just all your musical needs throughout the procession and recession. He sent us a variety of links to previous weddings that he worked as well as many pictures showing us all of the different lighting could change the atmosphere and feel of a room. When we decided to meet for the first time, Dennis was extremely prepared with a worksheet, timeline, and showing us his website as a potential client on how he prefers to work to get our day completely perfect. We went over specifics of certain events he would announce or emcee and specific times that he wanted us to zone in on to tell him where to be and what to say. During our very first meeting, we placed a deposit and went with him immediately. At no point throughout the planning process did I ever regret that decision as he always responded within 48 hours of an email and always returned my phone calls. What is so great about him is that every other vendor that I mentioned his name only had good things to say about him and that he is a well-seasoned professional in the wedding industry of San Diego. The rest of our planning was through email and through phone calls as we lived in Sacramento at the time. He does require that you fill out his worksheet and timeline on the website and have it submitted and final with no more changes 1-2 weeks before the actual event. Though we submitted our worksheet, the day required a little more flexibility and Dennis was very accomodating since the actual ceremony ran a little longer than expected. Since I had a very small intimate wedding (less than 40 guests) he coached our wedding party where to walk and stand and guided them throughout all of their entrances, he acted more like coordinator as well and it was much appreciated. He has an amazing speaking voice as he announced everyone who came to make a speech. He also socialized and mingled with all of my guests and just made everyone feel really comfortable. During our cake cutting, he even ran out to the back of the restaurant to get me a knife since the restaurant forgot to provide one, I attached that picture here it was hilarious! During open dancing, he played all the right songs and his ability to scratch with the turn table is awesome! He is really good at reading the crowd even my no nonsense aunts and uncles came out to dance. All the songs that I requested, the ones that he did not have, he had no trouble getting and our entire night went off without a hitch. He would bring the microphone to my parents and walk it back and forth to any of one of us waiting to speak during our little game we made for the guests. We were referred to Dennis by Amy June Weddings and he was the only DJ we talked to. Since we don't live in San Diego, we only had a phone call with him and knew after that call that he was the right guy. The playlist he put together was awesome - really energetic and fun to dance to. He was a great emcee, and a couple of our guests said he was one of the best wedding DJs they'd ever heard. Dennis rocked it at our wedding a little over a month ago. He is a true pro and paid a great deal of detail on executing what we had envisioned our wedding to be. The experience we had with him shows exactly why his 5-star rating is well warranted. Music selection is essential to the wedding. Dennis helped provide ideas for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and the actual party itself. He had a template that we worked off of, which made things way easier. After submitting the template, he provided candid feedback on what will work or not, which was extremely helpful. Also, he was flexible in using the music playlist we created on spotify to help inform the direction we're trying to go. When we met him in person prior to the wedding, you could tell that he paid attention to all the details, he even made sure that he took notes on pronouncing any funky asian names. We also got up-lights as part of our package. Dennis met with us at the venue prior to the wedding to run a demo with a couple of lights, however we weren't quite sure how the room would look without having all the lights in there and how it will play off against the built-in ambient lighting at the venue. While we're no experts at up-lights, we were impressed by the high quality dynamic lighting system he used. He was able to easily program different color schemes & combinations and change them up at a switch of a button from his laptop. This allowed him and our photographer to help us determine the best scheme the day of the event. We were actually able to sneak in some photos of us utilizing diff color schemes prior to the reception which turned out fantastic. Throughout the reception, he also checked in with us from time to time to make sure that things are going over smoothly. He even made sure that the bride and I were well "hydrated" at our table :-) While my night got blurrier as the night went along, judging by the photos and videos of everyone dancing, it looks like everyone had a blast! Through this experience, we learned that picking music and lighting is actually way harder than it sounds, luckily we were able to just have Dennis take care of the hard part. Dennis was our DJ for our wedding and I am very glad he was. He came recommended by our wedding planner Thomas Lewis. We were living in Tampa and planning our wedding in San Diego from there. Dennis had a great online portal where we could put all of our music preferences. He also on two occasions sat down with us (once on Skype and once in person) to work out details and I'm so glad we did because he of course knew things we would never have thought of. He explained clearly everything he wanted to do and why. We realized how much easier it would be for our guests with Dennis there to give them heads ups and guidance so they could just relax and have fun rather than wondering where they were supposed to go next and when. The only thing he did that I could have done without was tell us that our venue had a reputation for taking a long time to bring out entrees after salads. Since there were no actions we could have taken to decrease the likelihood of that happening, I would rather have not known because it caused me unnecessary apprehension. Maybe a different couple would have appreciated the heads up so they could be prepared, and maybe even I would have felt differently had that actually happened to us! Anyway, he was fantastic. The music was great. He felt out our crowd and gave them what they wanted. It was a good volume during dinner so people could enjoy their meals and visit and he accomodated our families with a special flash mob song that he didn't find out about until everything was said and done because it was a surprise for us. We just had our wedding in San Diego at the Catamaran Resort and Spa. We are from New Orleans and was searching for a capable DJ who could cater to our southern style. Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful as all of you know. When it came down to finding a DJ, we sent out several emails to see who was available for our January 5, 2013 wedding. We were getting married at Paradise Point in San Diego. We had several replies but when we received Dennis's email, we knew we had found our DJ. He responded with several links to weddings he had done in the past, samples of music he has done and all of his credentials. He had several questions for us about what we wanted and even had ideas of things we hadn't even thought about. From the first time we spoke with him, we knew our ceremony and reception was going to be amazing.........and they were. We had Dennis do our ceremony music which turned out absolutely amazing. He helped us to lengthen music when we needed it longer for our entrance and you couldn't even tell it wasn't part of the song. We sent him what we wanted and he made sure it was perfect. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The music was cued to perfection at just the right times during our procession, sand ceremony and recession. The reception was at max energy the entire time. Our dance floor was never empty at all. Dennis knows how to keep everyone's attention on the bride and groom at all times. He is an amazing emcee. We hired Dennis for our Nov 30 wedding, after being referred by our wedding coordinator Amy (Amy June Weddings and Events).. Now if you want a DJ that uses real turntables, emcee's, AND knows his music extensively.. he's your guy! Hire him, like NOW :) We first met with Dennis at a meeting our coordinator set up and we instantly knew he would be our DJ. His knowledge of music is very impressive! And we didn't know it at the time but if you want to have a smooth, NOT BORING reception.. that there was actually a structure for the music played. And Dennis explained all of this quite efficiently. We had a guest count of a little over 230, a mix of our older Filipino aunties/uncles/relatives and the younger crowd of our friends and family with very minimal kids.. and he knew what kind of music to play and at what times to help create a smooth flow to make sure the guests were having fun the whole night. He also made sure that all the music played was "clean".. meaning he made sure to edit any song that had cursing or explicit lyrics so our older guests wouldn't get offended. (but of course if you're into all the explicit lyrics, he did mention he doesn't mind playing those either at your request!) Not only that but he knew what would work best with all types of lighting.. where to place them, what kind of looks they create.. etc He also made sure he knew how to pronounce names of our very big bridal entourage for the grand entrance (we had 13 bridesmaids, 11 groomsmen, and 10 pairs of sponsors to give you guys an idea of how big..) One important thing we wanted was a DJ that could also emcee.. and he did just that, without being cheesy at all.. He made sure to make announcements when needed and kept the party going through out the night. And since my hubby isn't much of a talker and I talked a little too much cause i was pretty tipsy, he even made the final toast for us! And of course we couldn't thank him enough for adding a few more lighting touches through out the venue.. which really helped create a beautiful glow in the room. Also, whenever we emailed him with any questions or concerns, he would ALWAYS respond super quick. I found Dennis on yelp. I was planning my 40th birthday party at my house, (January 21st, 2012) and was looking for a DJ. I had come across Dennis's page and put his number in my phone. While doing so I accidentally dialed it. I never left a message. About a half an hour later he called back with a message, to me that spoke volumes. DJ Dennis was our DJ for our wedding this passed Saturday 07/13/13. His musical services went over and beyond what we expected! Dennis has much experience in being a DJ for weddings, and it truly shows when he is playing his music. Our wedding was full of guests who were entertainers and performers, so it was a crowd that knew how to have a good time...if the music is right. And that night Dennis made sure the music was right. Our dance floor was pretty much packed the whole night. Not only that, we also had Dennis set up his computer-controlled uplighting (DMX) lighting which is lighting that changes according to the beats and the music. This was a great addition to the dance floor and added to the entertainment value of the night. We are so happy that Dennis were able to keep us, and our guests entertained the whole night. He was so good that at the end of the night, our guests were chanting "one more song! one more song!" But due to music restrictions he couldn't. They probably could have gone all night because the music was so good. We mainly communicated through email, and he was very prompt in responding back. Dennis really makes sure to cater to his clients and their guests. And as for the value of his services, it is VERY reasonable. Comparing his services to other DJs, and his quality of services, he should be charging more. So his value is great for what you get in return. When I first met Dennis I was very impressed by his professionalism and knowledge of music. I knew I was going to book him as soon as the meeting was over. After my wife and I discussed it, I called him shortly after and booked him for our wedding. I know we made a great decision, most of the other DJ's that I looked into just didn't have that same personality or musical drive. I am sure we weren't the easiest couple to work with as my taste in music doesn't translate very well on the dance floor. In fact, when I was filling out the paper work we mostly included the important songs of First dance, Father Daughter, and Mother son, everything else was left blank. He kept asking me what kind of music I would want to be played and I simply told him its up to him. I was a bit nervous that I didn't give him much direction in what we wanted played, however, when we were at the ceremony as well as the reception everything was great. I was very impressed by the music and to see people that normally don't dance on the dance floor, dancing the night away(some weren't even drinking!). I am not a big dancer and neither are my friends but that didn't matter the music was so good you just had to groove to it. If you're looking for a DJ for your wedding, Birthday, or any other type of get together, I would highly recommend Dennis. He can really read a crowd and will know what to play to please any and all crowds no matter how diverse their musical tastes are. I know that our wedding day wouldn't and couldn't have been as special if we didn't decide to hire Dennis as our DJ. We just had our wedding with Dennis less than a week ago. Dennis was the ultimate professional and was a pleasure to work with. Prior to the wedding we communicated frequently via the phone and email to get all the details ironed out. Not having paid attention to too many wedding to which I've been invited in the past, Dennis served as a great resource to help me understand the typical flow and structure of the ceremony. I was able to send him music electronically for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception that he did not have in his library (I am sort of a music hipster), and that went off without a hitch. He even edited a few songs to cut out certain sections to my preference for the ceremony and it sounded great. His DJ Planning Worksheet provides nice guidance on how the reception could flow (but things are still totally up to you!) and it serves as a very efficient and organized way to document your interaction with the DJ. Dennis even offered some suggestions on how we might be able to entertain our guests during the reception which played out well. On the day of, our beach wedding was nearly ruined by rain because our hotel pulled in their sound equipment. Dennis, the ultimate planner, had an emergency speaker with him that he was able to set up and he basically saved the mood of the ceremony. During the cocktail hour and dinner he played the perfect set to match the vibe. He even came over during dinner to make sure I was pleased with the musical selections, which of course, I was. During the reception he did an excellent job MCing and moving things along with toasts, dances, and games. And then during dancing, he broke out some of his own remixes (Journey remix, Gotye & Avicii mash-up, etc.) that brought the music to a different level. I image you can find DJ services cheaper than Dennis, but there is no price to the peace of mind you have knowing that you have a consummate professional behind the mic. read more

Dennis DJ'd our wedding in October at the Estancia LaJolla and rocked the house! It's true what they say about weddings...people will remember what the bride looked like, how good the food was and definitely how good the music was. I am very happy to give an amazing review for an outstanding DJ! I normally don't take the time to write reviews, but in this case I actually created a Yelp account for the sole reason to compliment Dennis and make sure everyone knows they can be very confident about hiring him! A good DJ is a key component to a fun and successful wedding. I admittedly did not understand how crucial their role was until you see a wedding (my twin sister's wedding) with a terrible, unenthusiastic DJ. It caused all kinds of stress and unhappy feelings, which every bride knows is the last thing they need! The point is, you don't have to worry at all with Dennis. there is A LOT of planning when it comes to a wedding, so make this your easy decision and get to planning the rest of it. Dennis was very professional and prompt. My husband and I decided on a destination wedding in San Diego, so we had phone conversation meetings and they went very well due to his organization and experience. My absolute favorite part of his work was how amazing he was at choosing the songs that would get everyone excited and on the dance floor! He sends you worksheets to help in planning the music throughout your wedding. One of the questions was, "How old are you?" and "How old is your partner?" Little did I know how important those questions were! He took the time and researched what songs were hit songs from back when we were in Jr. High/ High School/ College. It was so AWESOME!!! Seriously, my girlfriends and I would get so excited as we talked about the fact that we haven't heard these song in a while and how we use to love them! Most people know what that feels like, when they hear songs that bring them back to a specific good time, and that is exactly what it was. On top of that, my husband is hispanic with a BIG hispanic family and I forgot to mention that to Dennis. Therefore depriving him of any Latin music preparation time. Luckily he observed the crowd and took action. He played some hispanic music that got his family on the dance floor, it was so great! Dennis was a terrific DJ and MC! His style was exactly what we wanted. In terms of the MC, he was "non-cheesy," effective, and did a great job keeping us on schedule without us feeling hurried at all. We gave Dennis a lot of flexibility in terms of what music to play, with our goal to "keep people of all ages dancing," and Dennis absolutely delivered! We were really very happy to see people dancing the whole night. Not only young people, but Dennis was able to lure our older guests out onto the dance floor without losing the young guests. We had a number of people text us after the wedding to say how good the DJ was. Not only that, but he did manage to integrate nice personal touches into the playlist, something that is difficult to pull-off well, and was really impressive. Moreover, he was flexible and accommodating and easily accommodated a wedding folk dance from Southern Europe! Also, I should add that we were planning this from thousands of miles away, so it was really important that we had a great DJ. Our wedding was about 130 people and was on Shelter Island. So the music - amazing. The MC - really solid and great. We also had some uplighting, and that really added to the effect, really well done. All in all, Dennis was a fantastic DJ, he is super professional and organized, and he totally eliminated any stress in terms of organizing. Dennis was the DJ for our wedding 2 weeks ago and it was a great experience. Choosing music for our wedding was probably one of the harder things for me to do. I just wanted each song to really resonate with each event, and did not want to settle for typical "wedding music." Dennis was super organized and provided a worksheet for my husband and I to coordinate our music with the timeline of our wedding. It made everything really easy. The day before the wedding we met with Dennis to go over everything. He double checked our song choices, as there were several different versions of some of the songs, and definitely put my mind at ease as far as transitions into each event. The day of the wedding, Dennis was on top of everything! We had an event coordinator, but it really felt like Dennis was more on the ball than anyone. He really kept the time for everything. From speeches, to cake cutting, to bouquet/garter toss, Dennis ensured everything ran smoothly. I have never been a fan of video montages at weddings, but Dennis put one together that still brings me to tears, and changed my mind on how I feel about them all together.The music he played kept our guests dancing and having a good time. A favorite memory was him playing " The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and everyone singing along. My only regret of the night was that it was not longer!! Dennis could not have done a better job!! I cannot say enough positive things about Dennis. He was absolutely incredible in more ways than one. From the initial meeting, he was professional, organized, and really made us feel at ease. He was able to offer helpful tips about how to make a reception run smoothly and the type of music that works best for what we wanted. During the actual wedding, he completely ran the show. He was more than just a DJ. He kept the wedding organized and made sure we stayed on schedule. His music was great and he kept the dance floor packed through the entire reception. He was also able to cater to every type of guest, from grandparents, to smaller children. One of our favorite parts was the video montage he put together for us. It was so unique and personalized and so much more than your traditional slideshow. It was really personal and everybody loved it. Plus, we now have a keepsake of our entire life together.
