I had a very short engagement, and he definitely rolled with the punches working with our timeline and song choices. I didn't give him a ton of direction, and he nailed it. Dennis is an amazing guitarist and DJ. He provided both of these services at my August 2012 wedding. Music was one of my top concerns for the event and I was extremely happy with the services Dennis provided. From my walk down the aisle at Rancho Bernardo Inn, playing his original Spanish music to coordinating the ambiance and flow of my reception, Dennis delivered in more ways than I ever could have imagined. Weddings are set on a schedule, but as we all know it is hard to keep on that tight timeline. Dennis played the guitar for an unanticipated extra amount of time while guests arrived at the ceremony, in the steaming hot sun, without complaint. Looking back at my wedding video, I can't imagine the big day without his music...it fit the mood perfectly. Then, when it was time to go to our reception at another location, we were running late again. Dennis took control at the venue and made sure that cocktail hour was running smoothly and our wedding party was ready to do speeches when we arrived. When our limo pulled up, Dennis was there to tell us what to do and before we knew it our entrance song was playing and we calmly walked in. He was so good at letting people know what to do, where to go, etc during the course of the night. The buffet line was never backed up, the first dance, father-daughter, & mother-son dances, and cake cutting all fit into the mix seamlessly. As the sun set, the night turned into the best dance party of my life. I heard all the songs I requested on Dennis' easy to manage website and they played at the best times. When it was time for us to hop back in our limo and have a send off from our guests, Dennis was the one asking everyone to line up outside (not loud on a microphone, he went up to people group by group) and finally my groom and I were sent out the door to a cheering crowd of our family and friends. Dennis is so confident when you meet with him prior to the big day, he puts you at ease. He has a ton of experience - been there, seen it all. He was tailor your day to what you want and support you as much as you need. A quick question via email was always responded to within a day and he never made me feel like a burden or a needy bride. We hired Dennis for our wedding and overall we were really happy with the results. We met with him twice before the wedding and kept in email contact up to the wedding. He helped us prior to the wedding with our timeline, and he also knew our venue really well (powerhouse, del mar) so even helped with layout suggestions etc. Dennis plays classical guitar so perfromed whilst our guests were arriving and also ceremony music. We met with Dennis prior to the wedding and gave him an idea of the music we would like. Closer to the time we gave him some specific songs we wanted / did not want and he respected our wishes, whilst producing a perfect mix throughout the reception. I hired Dennis for my wedding and overall I was disappointed. He was hired to do live guitar for my cocktail hour as well as DJ my ceremony & reception. Although I was very impressed with him before the wedding, I was upset with several things that happened during the event. The guitar playing during the cocktail hour was great & I would recommend him for that. However, he neglected to do several things I requested of him while he was DJing. For example, I asked him to play one song in it's entirety during the ceremony and he cut it off before it had ended. I also asked him to take any requests my guests had and he ended up refusing to play a song my 7 year old nephew requested (it was a normal song- Justin Timberlake or something) because it "didn't fit" with the set he was playing. By the way- no one was dancing and he could have played anything at that point. No one really enjoyed his music selection throughout the evening and it was like pulling teeth to get him to play a song I wanted. If you do hire him I would suggest planning a set list with all the songs you want played and be very clear with what you do or do not want him to do. I thought I was clear enough but I guess not. As the bride, your day is special and important and it sucks to be disappointed or notice things that deviate from the plan you discussed. Overall, he just wasn't as professional or as good during my event as I expected from our meetings beforehand. read more
