Whenever I'm in town I try to go somewhere new. This charming spot was calling my name. I absolutely loved it here! It's a very small and charming location. The bar area seats about 7, I think. But that made visiting with the regulars so much more intimate. The staff there were absolutely amazing!! They were so friendly and welcoming and assisted me with my choices. I got the muscles which came with truffle fries. I only had one fry and it was great but I ate all those muscles myself. Mmmm. So yummy!! The drinks were fabulous as well! I will absolutely be back. Note is an amazing spot on North 2nd Street in Harrisburg, nicely removed from the bustle of downtown but still close enough to be easily accessible. This is a lovely destination and a great romantic spot. I like to describe Note as "small but mighty." The space isn't huge, but is immensely charming and eclectically decorated (and outdoor seating as weather permits). The wine list isn't extensive but is well curated and has a nice range of styles. Similarly, tge French-influenced menu is small, interesting, but accessible to varied tastes. Note clearly has a large neighborhood customer base and "regulars" but the atmosphere is welcoming to all. The venue is well-suited for conversation and interaction. Service is attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Note is a wonderful, classy part of the Harrisburg restaurant scene. I highly recommend! read more

Visited for my mom's birthday dinner. Called ahead for a reservation (highly recommend). The atmosphere was wonderful and inviting. The staff were awesome and very knowing of allergies. We were a celiacs and dairy allergy table, meaning we had a lot of questions and answers needed. They were awesome. Two of us had the duck, which was very juicy and yummy. We had come here for years for special life events. I came for my birthday this December and the food was excellent BUT - entree sizes are too small for the price. I usually get the duck- and the picture posted here is what I'm used to. I got 5 medallions at best - a few brussels sprouts and smear of this and that. My husband got maybe 5 very small lamb lollipop chops. My daughter got the portabella mushroom - same. We all got appetizers, wine, desserts - which I'm glad for. If we had just ordered the entrees we would have left hungry. Bill was around $400 for four people. I'm so disappointed because the food/ people are so great - but you cannot cut back on serving size without cutting back on price. read more

Let me start off by saying that the singular hostess/waitress was pulling her weight by far and was delightful. There is a decent diversity to the menu. We started off with the soup, which was flavorful but a little thinner than I had hoped. Was excited about the melted Brie dish but was a little disappointed that it is served cold. Where the meal went uphill was the gnocchi with lamb (would not have enjoyed the dish nearly as much without the lamb) and the salmon, which was perfectly crispy on a bed of polenta and mushrooms. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. Emailed Ruth for reservations and she was ver responsive even though I missed my original reservation. It was pricey but definitely worth it. I recently had dinner at Note. This was not my first time there and won't be my last. I find the staff friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. A small bar offers drinks and small variety of wines by the glass. There are outdoor tables in 2nd Street which can be noisy at times but otherwise very neighborly in some ways! I find the food consistently good, well prepared and very innovative. Appetizers and entrees are unique and delicious. Most nights there are special additions to both. Reservations are recommended. Parking can be challenging at times so give yourself a few minutes to get settled in. A wonderful evening for couples, friends and families. read more

We recently dined at Note for dinner on a Saturday night, and, WOW! We were really impressed by both the delicious food and the awesome service. The menu, while not lengthy, has some great options, which include a variety of innovative dishes. The beverage list perfectly complements the food and includes unique cocktails, wine and beer. We really enjoyed our cocktails which included the Bee Sting with bourbon and the Spicy Margarita. We then started with the mussels for an appetizer, which was a total showstopper! The broth was oh so delicious (with pancetta on the side since my wife does not eat meat) to the point where I considered sipping the rest of it with a straw or just bringing it home to bathe in. Instead, we simply opted to sop it up with the perfectly grilled garlic bread that came with the dish. For our main meals, my wife had the Pasta Primavera with seared scallops and the grilled marinated Mushroom Cap. Both dishes were cooked perfectly, were presented well, and had amazing flavor! Homerun. We also enjoyed a few glasses of their Gruner Veltiner. This review would not be complete if I failed to mention the incredible service we had from Jenna! Pretty disappointing dining experience tonight. This is really a lovely eatery, with a nice bar and lots of al fresco seating. Music is nice and menu is interesting. But it's really hit or miss. Prices are on the high side, e.g., $30 for a small piece of rockfish with a side of greens (the server had told her it was $28). B and I got (apparently) the last two servings of the special soup a spicy crab potato soup. Not much crab evident, and B had probably 4 times as many potatoes in her cup. M had the mussels, which had a weird sweet (fennel?) taste which really detracted from the mussels. M and I had pasta dishes, but her ragu ($28) was not hot. My gnocchi ($26) was fine, as was B's fish. The biggest problem was the slow pace of the meal. We waited and waited with no food on the table. About ten minutes after ordering, the hostess asked if we'd like some bread(!). Something was clearly wrong in the kitchen, because everyone in the restaurant was sitting with no food. No explanation from staff for the delay. Long wait + high prices = no redo. read more

Folks are saying this is Harrisburg's best restaurant. I'm looking on the map and I see its close to the water. I'll swing by and judge for myself. I walk into a nice looking space. Giving off an old school Brooklyn vibe, I settle down by the bar and ask for a happy hour menu. I'm looking to have a small plate with a glass of wine. The menu selection is throwing me, I don't want to eat a full entree and the small plates are small. $5 per cheese selection? What are the cheese selections? Do you offer any meats?? There is a Chicken Liver Mousse, but the Candied Strawberry is making me say no bueno. I see the description warm and savory Gougeres, Baked with Herbs & Gruyere Cheese. Mmm mm! I ask the bartender, what's a Gougeres?? Its a fancy term for homemade dinner rolls... I ordered a Spanish wine, I usually gravitate towards a Tempranillo but I see another wine from Spain not using the grapes from Riojo? I'm open so I ordered a glass. The bread comes to me, lots going on. The herb butter, the baked Gruyere Cheese, it was a nice treat. The bread isn't very dense, very light for bread baked with Gruyere Cheese. The wine comes to me and I see its a generous pour. Packed with punchy fruits, this is a beautiful Spanish wine. Note Wine Bar, I thank you for the hospitality. The wine was excellent, the Gougeres? Note Bistro is small and intimate, it can get a little bit noisy. Went for Sunday brunch with friends. Our young woman server was excellent, I wish I had caught her name. Small menu. The eggs Benedict had two perfectly poached eggs over belly pork and with an arugula salad on the plate. Highly recommend the fried potatoes. Susq. Sunset Martini Cocktail was OK but would try something different next time. For older customers and icy days I would strongly suggest a hand rail on the right side of the entrance steps. read more

This has to be our favorite restaurant in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-York-Hershey region. Hands down, I would give it 6 stars if that were an option. The husband and I come here frequently because it is so good. Last night, as usual, we were blown away. The new menu came out last week and also, as usual, it is creative and complex. We started the meal off with the Isreali Spiced Vegetable Soup. Um, yeah. This was kiiillllleeerrrr!!! I have a photo of the menu here and it is at the tippy top, as it should be. I also took a photo of the soup after we devoured half of it. This is something I will surely get again before it comes off the menu. We also had the Lamb Chili with crème frâise and ricotta, which was also crazy special. Next, we moved to the Iceberg Wedge salad. This place always has a wedge salad on the menu and with each new menu, it seems to be a new twist of what you would think would be a simple salad. Always a favorite. Last night, this had a white wine raisin sauce and chutney and homemade Waldorf dressing. For the main courses, we had one of the Slow Braised Short Rib with aged cheddar pomme puree, heirloom baby carrots, cermini mushrooms, and port wine and tarragon jus. This short rib falls apart so spectacularly I don't even know why I was given a steak knife. I could eat this day in and out! My husband had the special which was Duroc Pork Chop served with kale, polenta, and a vegetable that may have been done ratatouille style. Done perfectly and a little pink (per the new lower temperature recommendations, Yes!). The wine at Note is a broad, wonderful, European selection. Usually, I let whoever is behind the bar pick a red or white variety for me depending on what I'm eating. Service is spot on, but that is what you get when you go to a very stable, little restaurant that has a longtime staff and owner. There is talent here in the kitchen, behind the bar, and on the floor. Over the years, there have been changes with the chef and sous chef and each time, we think Ruth (the owner) could not have gotten better than the last one and each time, the kitchen talent keeps reaching new levels. Hugs and kisses to everyone in the kitchen ; ) **Bonus points: the menu is marked with "GF"(gluten-free) and "V" (vegetarian) and there are a lot of choices for this. We saved Note Bistro & Wine Bar for a special night and it surpassed our hopes. We ordered a bottle of Pino Grigio and food from the small plates menu. Mine was mussels and French fries. The mussels were perfectly done and it was a generous portion; the French fries were beyond good, crispy but with the potato still inside and a lovely sauce. My daughter has Patats Bravas. In Spain, this is fried potato chunks with mayonnaise; here it was a tasty tomato sauce with potatoes. My wife had a chicken pate and it was wonderful. We all shared. Dessert was a chocolate mousse and flan. The flan was perfect, creamy with a hard layer of sugar. When we first moved to the Midtown area of Harrisburg, we noticed Note and it was places like that which made us want to live here. I think Note will become our go to place for special celebrations. I have been waiting to try this place since I've moved here and was glad that they participated in restaurant week. They have happy hour that ends at 7pm. Their cheese plates are half off as well only for happy hour. I would caution that you ask. Ambiance: 5/5 I would call this a very cozy date night place riddled with couples. There are not very many places in Harrisburg that date night worthy, so I love that they offer an cozy intimate vibe inside. For outside seating they have a cute but limited outdoor seating that is pet friendly as well~ I got to try this place due to restaurant week in harrisburg. Together we shared a half off cheese plate during happy hour and I got to have some wine. Do note their sizes are small for individual glasses.....I would call it more of a tasting for their smallest size. Cheese selection was lackluster. There was a 3 course dinner option so we shared where we could. I tried the savory "gougeres" and the carrot and beet salad. I loved the gourgeres and they were basically glorified cheese balls and the salad was extremely fresh. For my main dish, I had the seared icelandic cod that was roasted with calabaza squash and tomatoes & green chili puree along with basil XO sauce. I honestly though the XO sauce made the dish. My only sad hiccup was that my friend found sticker on the tomato...which concerned us a bit if they washed the tomatoes or did they just forget to take the sticker off. Nonetheless, we didn't tell our waiter and didn't want to make a big stink about it. I had this very dense chocolate mousse for dessert which really wasn't memorable as I only finished half. These guys really worked hard to satisfy our group! We were in town for a family funeral a few weeks back, and needed a place to kick back and relax after a lot of emotional family meet-ups. MY folks really love wine bars, and I am a big fan of quirky and exotic menus, so this place fit the bill perfectly. Our big wild card was our two kids - 4 and 8 years olds, who love food, but can be a bit difficult at times, as you can imagine. So, the reason we give this place 5 stars is because as a whole, they brought their "A-Game," without fail. Sure, there were areas I would want to see improvement in (fried artichoke hearts looked like frozen artichoke hearts, etc), but when you look at the entire experience, it's great! Our waitress was awesome. Again, we brought my parents and our KIDS to a "wine bar," and while our children are experienced bon vivants, they are still kids, and we give this place total credit for accommodating us! (Don't be a goon and turn this place into the pediatric Wine Bar, though... they would hate us!) OK, so... food-wise, we liked this place a lot. As mentioned above, fried artichoke hearts appeared to have come from a can and been breaded, so they were underwhelming, but filling. The octopus tentacles, however, were stunning. At the risk of making every octopus in the world a pentopus or worse, this place knows its $#17... I think they drizzle them with honey as a glaze and precisely char grill them. Either way, they are supremely delicious, and I should not be telling you about them because I loved them and because I also want octopi to survive. Actually, forget everything I said... Their gnocchi were incredible, and to be honest, the pasta this place turns out is their little secret. I love their seasonal menu and how they pair things up with an ambitious menu that changes all the time. If I lived in town, this place would be a big favorite, and I would probably come back at least weekly. To the staff - we can't thank you enough for your service and accommodation - bringing 2 kids to a "Wine Bar" is a bit challenging, but you met the challenge and absolutely knocked it out of the park. We hope that you shall not be met with an onslaught of brats or ill-tempered children, but rather presented with a deluge of foodie kids that know how damn awesome your food is. Very few places we ventured to in Harrisburg made such a tight clean plate with fresh quality ingredients and produce. My eggs Benedict with maple sausage was amazing, but the must try had to be the FRIED CHICKEN AND WAFFLES. Working in Harlem, Ive eaten my fair share of fried chicken and waffles and this chef has that recipe locked down. Waffles were soft and fluffy chicken was crispy and that gravy/sauce on top blew it to another dimension. We were so full and satisfied we couldn't even try there deserts but the food was so good I Think there deserts were most likely heavenly. This is the perfect place for a nice romantic brunch or dinner, there wine list is extensive and reasonably priced, menu is small and not overwhelming, staff is awesome, ingredients are fresh and the atmosphere brings it all together. The Bloody Marys were as good as our first visit. We shared a beet and strawberry salad which was good. Now for the Smoked pork belly eggs benedict. I actually questioned our server if there was a mix up from pork belly and the special which was brisket. Pork belly typically has a larger portion of fat versus brisket. It was rather bland and I gave half of it to my wife. I just didn't want to finish it. In all fairness we share a lot of food. Her grilled cheese was also with out flavor.
