Cheesesteak special and fries.
Donna G.

What a quaint old rail station. It has a great history. It has been lovingly restored. We stopped for lunch and a drink. I had the grilled Rueben and my husband has the special cheesesteak. The food was hot and fresh! Sweet potato fries were the favorite! Great service everyone was so friendly.

Awesome Bloody Mary! With old bay salted rim!

So fun! The excellent food, the friendly service and the Bloody Mary made for a great little lunch get away! Don't miss the grilled Reuben as it was delicious!!! I love the train station decor. The building has an amazing history too!!

Didn't have the kids with us for lunch today, so we came here as we were in the area. We had a nice lunch. TSR seems to be one of the nicer restaurants in Tamaqua and at least their entree prices reflect it. The other things on the menu seem to be more reasonably priced and I'm glad we came for lunch and not dinner. I included menu pictures as of today for reference. I had an appetizer of the soup of the day which was chicken quesadilla. How they get that flavor into a soup is beyond me but it definitely tasted like a thick chicken quesadilla. It was quite nice. For a main, I went with a Turkey Rachel which is turkey, Russian dressing, Swiss cheese, and coleslaw on toasted rye bread. It came with a side of fries. Wife had a side Caesar salad which was nice but nothing great, and a black bean burger which she liked a lot but was on the spicy side. The fries we both got were just enough portion sized and well done like we asked for. My sandwich was nicely crispy bread and tasty insides but I did not feel 100% on the way home; it could have really been the heat or the combo with the alcohol, but the taste of the Rachel was in my mouth so I was not feeling it. I ordered a Yuengling Flight expecting four 4oz pours of different Yuengling beers they had available, but really got a pint of their low-calorie beer, Flight. When I said this to our waitress, she did bring out three 2oz pours of a regular Yuengling, a Summer Shandy, and a Breakfast Stout. Two of the three I liked and she certainly did not have to do this, but I truly appreciate the effort made. I also had a mojito and the wife had a French martini both of which hit the spot. The restaurant is actually a converted train station, and there's memorabilia around to look at. There are active train tracks right next to the place and we were told trains still run along, especially the heavy coal trains. A rarity among restaurants, TSR brought a dessert tray to our table with today's selections. I chose a vanilla mascarpone cake, and wife chose a berry pie. Both desserts left us stuffed and were nice and fresh. Service was more than attentive and got a nice tip for going above and beyond with the beer issue. Just about $75 for two of us for lunch not including tip. Two cocktails, two appetizers, a beer, two mains, and two desserts. Quite enjoyable.

Small bar, major brands and Yuelibg beer brewed locally

Always trust a place that has almost 70 reviews and a near perfect 4.9 rating. The reviews don't…read morelie. New Yorkers love their delis, and if just half of them are like this one, I can see why. JJ Delicatessen has an excellent assortment of meats, cheeses and dried goods, many from European countries like Germany and Poland. My girlfriend and I ordered sandwiches on a Saturday morning. We had to wait a little over twenty minutes, and the woman advised that next time we call our orders in ahead of time because the hot sandwiches take awhile. So that's your tip for the day. But they were worth waiting for. Fairly priced, excellent quality, and came with a few sides. I got the Polish sandwich special and my girlfriend got the Mediterranean sandwich special. There is a small seating area in the deli, but we took them with us and ate them in the car. It was a great lunch that we ate right before an afternoon of hiking at High Point State Park in NJ. Highly recommend this deli!

I really wish I could rate this place higher than this, but all that comes to mind when I think of…read morethis place is 'salty.' It seems like this is something of an institution and even for first-timers like us, it's not hard to see why. It's a European-leaning local deli that is clean, well stocked with interesting goodies, and that's is a cozy dining room in the front end of the shop. The two ladies we interacted with were fairly friendly and helpful, and after an agonising few minutes looking at the menu, we decided on the Polish and Italian sandwiches (vs heroes, which are bigger, cost a bit more, and are served on a roll). What I liked was the fresh tasting pickle that comes with the sandwich. In fact, the pickle may have been my favourite thing, period. The macaroni salad and potato salad were enjoyable if not particularly memorable. Now, the sandwiches. They look great, delicious even. We could tell they were made with care. From the first bite though, so I could think was, why's this SO salty? To this day, we're not sure what the culprit(s) were. Without the saltiness, I think they could have been delicious sandwiches. Perhaps this is how the locals like it. Maybe this is some sort of traditional way to prepare these sandwiches. All I know is that it traumatised my taste buds so much that I didn't have an appetite for another meal for the rest of the day. And of course I was quite thirsty for a few hours afterwards. I hope they keep improving and stay open for many more years.

My Aunt lives in York, and I saw this spot on some Facebook groups. I knew I had to go and check…read moreit out when I was back there. I placed my order online and went with a Hefty size Classic Cheesesteak, and a Husky size Philly Special Hoagie. Total after tax/tip was $34.00. How were they? Cheesesteak- Fantastic! Nice seeded bread, tons of meat and cooper sharp cheese. Onions were cut a little big and laid on top, so they started to fall all over the place (eat this outside your car, trust me!) while I was eating. Flavors were great, though! Damn fine cheesesteak and I would definitely return to get another. Hoagie- This thing was packed with goodies! They also use the "meat blanket" technique that I have only seen at LaSpadas down in Florida, previously. All the ingredients were well put together, HUGE, good bread, but there was a lack of tang in the olive oil/vinegar dressing. It was basically absent. That's why the 4 stars. Maybe you need to order extra or more vinegar? Something was definitely needed though. It was pretty plain tasting. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good sandwich, but it could have been a GREAT sandwich with some extra flavor of the oil/vinegar. This would definitely be my sandwich spot if I lived in York!

The hoagie I ordered was exactly what I was expecting. I ordered the sandwich with everything on it (Yes, all the peppers!) It was out of this world! I definitely will be back to try their other sandwiches!
