On a dark and rainy night, we passed through Southbridge, Massachusetts and took refuge at the Fin and Tales. It was almost deserted, although a grand celebration was going on in the back. Service was really great, the atmosphere lovely rustic, and the menu nothing short of mouthwatering. Good beer and wine selection, too. Following bread with butter and an olive tapenade, my son had his usual cheeseburger (Angus), wife had a nice salad with shrimp, and I savoured a baked haddock stuffed with crab. Everything was beautifully presented, well seasoned and very tasty. Well worth the excursion to Southbridge.

We had a lovely meal at Fins & Tales on a recent visit to Sturbridge, MA recently. The menu is a nice balance of seafood and meats. The side vegetable was broccoli, perfectly cooked in a light butter sauce. The Sirloin tips were prepared with a delicious Demi glace'. My companion ordered the Fish and Chips, which arrived with a generous fish portion, fried to a beautiful golden color. The batter was light and crispy. This is a very nice restaurant. Prices are $$-$$$. The wine list is quite good and well priced. They also have a full bar. Our service was prompt and friendly. There is a large, rear parking lot. The decor is sophisticated and welcoming.

What a gem! I used to come to come to the window outside when they first opened to get a "rom's sauce" as well as a few other items I can't remember but haven't been here since I moved to California 11 years ago. And wow! I would definitely be here often if I lived local. The bar looked inviting and the entire place is beautiful and esthetically pleasing. We had a half circle booth where my family and I dined in the early evening. The menu has something for everyone. I'm not a seafood fan so I mean it's name, fins and Tales doesn't mean it's not for you, there's definitely something for everyone. I had the chicken parm and the chicken was perfectly fried with melted cheese and I loved it. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the sauce is the BEST, reminds me of Rom's but slightly different, in a good way, and the only thing that could make it better was homemade fresh pasta. And literally I would be back in heartbeat for fresh pasta. My son and mom got the NY strip streak that was cooked as ordered medium rare. One had mashed potatoes and the other French fries. Mashed was good, french fries not hand cut but were good. Broccoli was the veggie and they both ate theirs first, I didn't even get to try it so that's a good thing! The anancini was amazing and even surpassed my moms first thoughts about trying it which is a major win for her in the "trying new things" department. The bread was FRESH and amazing. The tapenade was good, tasting of green olives, capers and possibly anchovies, a little goes a long way. My son and mom were not fans but my son ate half a loaf of bread I think. The margarita was delicious. I'd love another! The fried cheesecake was the best I've ever had. I mean it. Wow. Sauce on the side though, I'm not a raspberry fan. Our server Danni was wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu. She was lovely and dealt well with my mom with patience, who is tough to please. I thank her for her great service. This is most definitely a local hidden gem and I'd love to return and eat here more often. Service, atmosphere and food that was all a knock out of the park. Way to go Fins and Tales!

Ate here 5/14/2022. Everything we had was excellent...the fresh bread with olive tapenade, fried oyster appetizer, and especially the seafood casserole special which had fresh scallops, shrimp, and haddock. Good local beer selection. Friendly service. Definitely recommended.

We enjoyed a family meal here between Christmas and New Years and it was excellent. Food and waitstaff were equally great. Will come back.

We recently tried the Dark Horse Tavern on a Saturday evening. We got there at opening (5 o'clock)…read moreand it was already dark out, it was confusing where the entrance was, but we found it. We entered and were immediately impressed by the decor and setting. You really feel like you entered a time capsule from a different era, everything is beautiful. We were seated in a cute little area. We ordered our drinks and we really wanted the fish chowder for our app, but they didn't have any (so disappointing). My husband decided on the chili and nothing caught my eye for an app, but I had some bites of the chili and it was very very good! For dinner my husband picked the Beef and Guinness Stew and I picked the Fish and Chips. My fish was very good, but it said it came with hand cut fries and there was no way they were hand cut, they tasted like everything other frozen fries I've had and they were really skimpy on the fries. My husband's Beef and Guinness Stew was awful, he said the meat was very grizzly and tough. We really enjoyed our experience dining in such a beautiful place, we might come back in the summer and give them another try.

My husband had the beef and Guinness stew and I had the classic wedge salad - both fab. Our server was so attentive. I recommend trying the cocktail of the day, if you happen to be a cocktail person.

SAVE YOUR MONEY....PLEASE... I sat down with a man and went…read moreover a contract for my October wedding.. I asked him if I was able to come the day before that way I can set the hall up.. my wedding started at 2, they didn't open until 12 pm that day so there was no way I could decorate the entire hall for my wedding on the same day.. he told me I was able to come the day before as long as they don't have another party on that day. He charged me $400 for the hall (which isn't a bad price). A week before my wedding I called the hall and asked them if the day before the wedding was still open.. and it was... then called about 2 days later to ask again.. and asked if it was still okay if I came in the day before to decorate for my wedding... ( I kept asking because I was so nervous a inconvenience would come up) so I was told multiple times that yes it was indeed okay if I come in the day before to decorate... fast forward to that day... I call AGAIN and asked if they where open and if they where okay if I came now.. the women on the phone ( the owners sister) says " I mean I guess for a few hours).. I get down to the hall and paid the rest of my deposit that I owed... she says " I don't even know if the tables are put down or not.. I'm sure he left that shit for me to do so you'll have to wait for me to put them down"... I said " it's okay, my fiancé said he doesn't mind doing it" she says " wow I shouldn't be swearing I'm really unprofessional "... it took a pretty decent amount of time to set up those tables and chairs..( if they where already set up.. it would've been faster)... 1 hour after decorating the hall the girl comes in and says " are you almost done... how much longer" we said um no im sorry it took us awhile to set up your tables and chairs.. she leaves the room.. ONE hour goes by she comes back in and says " how much longer... I need to leave" we said it shouldn't be much longer... half and hour goes by and she comes in and says " yeah.. im gunna need to charge you a inconvience fee... he didn't charge you the proper amount anyways.. we charge people $450" how are they going to tell you it's okay to come the day before to decorate yet harass you every single hour while your decorating... and again, if there table and chairs where set up.. that could've easily knocked a good hour/hour & a half out.. I could absolutely not believe the way that women talked to me.. her & I got into a screaming match and completely ruined my entire day.. I only had 5 people helping me set up and we where all rushing as is to hurry up and set up.. when do they expect you to decorate for your event when they open up so late.. please, save your money. There's other beautiful halls around that are cheap & have way more pleasant coworkers!!
