On a dark and rainy night, we passed through Southbridge, Massachusetts and took refuge at the Fin and Tales. It was almost deserted, although a grand celebration was going on in the back. Service was really great, the atmosphere lovely rustic, and the menu nothing short of mouthwatering. Good beer and wine selection, too. Following bread with butter and an olive tapenade, my son had his usual cheeseburger (Angus), wife had a nice salad with shrimp, and I savoured a baked haddock stuffed with crab. We had a lovely meal at Fins & Tales on a recent visit to Sturbridge, MA recently. The menu is a nice balance of seafood and meats. The side vegetable was broccoli, perfectly cooked in a light butter sauce. The Sirloin tips were prepared with a delicious Demi glace'. My companion ordered the Fish and Chips, which arrived with a generous fish portion, fried to a beautiful golden color. The batter was light and crispy. This is a very nice restaurant. Prices are $$-$$$. The wine list is quite good and well priced. They also have a full bar. Our service was prompt and friendly. There is a large, rear parking lot. It's out of the way in a place you wouldn't expect a nice restaurant. The menu was really ok. They seem to try to deliver a superior product in a neighborhood that you wouldn't think would support it. But the place filled up quickly. Unfortunately, for whatever reason that particular night there were fruit flies all over the place. We moved from the bar to a table and the fruit flies were annoyingly everywhere. I used to come to come to the window outside when they first opened to get a "rom's sauce" as well as a few other items I can't remember but haven't been here since I moved to California 11 years ago. And wow! I would definitely be here often if I lived local. The bar looked inviting and the entire place is beautiful and esthetically pleasing. We had a half circle booth where my family and I dined in the early evening. The menu has something for everyone. I'm not a seafood fan so I mean it's name, fins and Tales doesn't mean it's not for you, there's definitely something for everyone. I had the chicken parm and the chicken was perfectly fried with melted cheese and I loved it. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the sauce is the BEST, reminds me of Rom's but slightly different, in a good way, and the only thing that could make it better was homemade fresh pasta. And literally I would be back in heartbeat for fresh pasta. My son and mom got the NY strip streak that was cooked as ordered medium rare. One had mashed potatoes and the other French fries. Mashed was good, french fries not hand cut but were good. Broccoli was the veggie and they both ate theirs first, I didn't even get to try it so that's a good thing! The anancini was amazing and even surpassed my moms first thoughts about trying it which is a major win for her in the "trying new things" department. The bread was FRESH and amazing. The tapenade was good, tasting of green olives, capers and possibly anchovies, a little goes a long way. My son and mom were not fans but my son ate half a loaf of bread I think. The margarita was delicious. I'd love another! The fried cheesecake was the best I've ever had. I mean it. Wow. Sauce on the side though, I'm not a raspberry fan. Our server Danni was wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu. She was lovely and dealt well with my mom with patience, who is tough to please. I thank her for her great service. This review is regarding my daughter's bridal shower at Fins & Tales on June 8th, 2025. Fins & Tales' staff did everything to make the shower awesome including accommodating food allergies, (GF and fish!!) The event room looked beautiful with the chosen tablecloth and flowers. I was given a choice of 4 different tablecloth and centerpiece options. Several people asked me where the fresh flowers came from; Angelique, the event coordinator did a lovely job of creating these centerpieces. They have a lovely brick wall which gives a romantic atmosphere to the affair. There was plenty of room for all the guests and plenty of time for everything that was planned. The food at the buffet was more than ample - I went up to the buffet after most of the guests and I saw there were a few portions left of one of the brunch dishes. I was going to ask the staff to refill it but before I got back to my table the staff had brought out a fresh tray. We had a breakfast buffet at our hotel that morning and they were constantly running out of food and with no personnel around to restock the platters. What a difference! Everything was delicious. The guests really enjoyed themselves. It was almost to the end of the shower that I noticed the coffee was low and I mentioned it to our coordinator and she immediately replaced it. We had such a great time- when things run like clockwork as they did at Fins and Tales on June 8th, it takes pressure off the host so that they can focus on other things. This is a place that we must go to on our journeys North from Texas. I like quality and consistency and I always find both features at this restaurant. The facility is in an old furniture store with the former name on the outside of the building. Inside has been converted to a comfortable and attractive restaurant. Our party of six arrived around five thirty on Friday and were immediately seated at a large round table. Drink orders taken and delivered quickly. Our server announced the daily specials and answered questions. I heard the word "Scallops" and immediately made my decision. In Texas, where we live, it is a great distance from where scallops live. Any way, I loved my dinner choice and tried to savor them slowly but that probably didn't happen. Found this restaurant on yelp coming home from Lowell toward home. A wonderful find! Awesome seafood choices including crab cakes X 3 that we shared. I had stuffed haddock with crab and hubby had New York strip. Very delicious. Shared a slice of cheesecake! Plenty fresh and not too sweet with fresh strawberries. Our server, Grace was pleasant and personable. We enjoyed our meal and the setting of a transformed vintage furniture ware room! Hidden gem in southbridge, very close to Sturbridge. Food is always delicious, fresh and they have seasonal specials which are always excellent, regular menu has great variety to appeal to all tastes. Staff is friendly and welcoming, drinks are tasty and made perfectly. Big beautiful bar with industrial feeling, cozy booths and tables. You'd be crazy to pass up a meal here. read more

Upon arrival tonite we wired over 10 minutes for a server and had to find someone and ask for help Server was terrible and provided the worst experience ever Not attentive Never checked on us or asked if we needed anything Server actually told us she was aware of us but had forgot about us If your not in a large group the staff could care less It's too bad as we were weekly regulars and moving forward will never return and will let everyone know how poor the service is at this facility It's unfortunate because the food is decent Your only as good as the help you hire and in this case I guess that is good enough for the area Avoid this restaurant unless you prefer poor service. read more

First day of my family's vacation everyone was hungry, unfortunately most of the restaurants in Sturbridge were booked until 8:30. Going on Yelp we found Fins and Tales, who had only one table lefted at 6:30. Well the meal we received was good, but our waitress Debbie was great. Clam chowder was thick and creamy with a ton of clams. Chicken parm has 2 large pieces of chicken. Fully enough for 2 people. The price was reasonable for the amount of food we got. I've driven past Fins and Tales for years now and finally stopped in for dinner last night. I was pleasantly surprised! Expecting to be primarily a seafood restaurant I was worried about finding something I'd like. The server came over and told us the specials and I was sold. I started with some of the best clam chowder I have ever had! Then came more deliciousness when the braised short rib over mashed taters absolutely fantastic! Do they?Most other restaurants serve up GREASE and chips. Fins & Tales fish and chips are not greasy at all and it's a Texas size serving. Awesome!There French fries and onion rings are made from scratch , not frozen. That is what you expect from a fine dining experience My wonderful wife choose the steak tips with broccoli and roasted potatoes. Superb! I'm going to make a bold statement here. Start with a pulled pork sandwich(not greasy and leaking all over the place like Bts smokehouse ones) . Then wash it down with a can of Coke. I went for the sriracha salmon. It wasn't spicy but was sweet and tangy. I would typically say that salmon doesn't need a glaze but this was good. The side of mash potatoes soaked it up well (they were a little on the dry side) and the broccoli was well prepared. I had Chocolate brownie sundae for dessert. It would have been good to share. It was a little overload on sweetness but it didn't go to waste. I ate at the bar where they were friendly but the guy was sorta tweaking. It was entertaining more than concerning. read more

We had an amazing meal tonight. We love the olive tampanade to start! Such a treat. We had the seared scallops and steak tips for dinner, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. My husband and I visited on a Saturday night. They were short staffed and we waited, standing by the hostess, for over 45 minutes. We weren't even offered a seat at the bar while we waited. Typically that wouldn't have bothered us but when we called to make a reservation they told us that we did not need to if we arrived by 6. We arrived at 5:40. Always make a reservation! There were multiple large parties coming in and they were seated immediately. I actually felt like they looked down on us for not having a reservation. The food was good - about what you would expect for a local, non-chain. We ordered an appetizer and dinner at the same time but they never brought us our appetizer. We ate and left. I wasn't incredibly impressed, even considering all of the great reviews we had heard. I wont be back. For what we paid I would much rather go to any of the 5 star restaurants in Sturbridge or even Worcester. read more

They do not have many choices for a seafood restaurant. The crab cakes have a scant amount of crab. The baked stuffed shrimp is not fresh and dried out. Every single course was delicious and portions were more than we could have asked for. We started with the Fried Calamari appetizer and it was a meal in itself, nice and crispy, in a light batter with just enough red and green hot cherry peppers. I ordered the Sirloin Tips medium rare and they were actually medium rare, and the asparagus was perfectly cooked al dente, my second side of cheese risotto was to die for. My surf and turf combo, Baked Stuffed Shrimp were enormous and tasty. My husband had the generous portion of Salmon which was deliciously herbed and cooked to perfection, over a bed of sumptuous baked root vegetables, which seemed to be the perfect accompaniment for the mildly seasoned salmon. The desert menu was small but all of the items we sumptuous offerings, and favorites to most anyone making it hard to choose from but I opted for the Bourbon Bread Pudding "TO GO", and as full as I was when I got home I couldn't resist eating most of it, which truly called for an "OMG this is delicious!" They offered a good selection of beer and wine with a bartender that knew how to pour a Guinness properly according to my Galway sidekick. Our charming waitress was perfectly attentive without being overbearing and despite it being closing time when we were finishing up, there was no hint of being pushed out the door by anyone of the workers remaining. Offering a tastefully done warm and cozy atmosphere with fabulous food and friendly servers we will be going back soon.
