On a dark and rainy night, we passed through Southbridge, Massachusetts and took refuge at the Fin and Tales. It was almost deserted, although a grand celebration was going on in the back. Service was really great, the atmosphere lovely rustic, and the menu nothing short of mouthwatering. Good beer and wine selection, too. Following bread with butter and an olive tapenade, my son had his usual cheeseburger (Angus), wife had a nice salad with shrimp, and I savoured a baked haddock stuffed with crab. Everything was beautifully presented, well seasoned and very tasty. Well worth the excursion to Southbridge.

We had a lovely meal at Fins & Tales on a recent visit to Sturbridge, MA recently. The menu is a nice balance of seafood and meats. The side vegetable was broccoli, perfectly cooked in a light butter sauce. The Sirloin tips were prepared with a delicious Demi glace'. My companion ordered the Fish and Chips, which arrived with a generous fish portion, fried to a beautiful golden color. The batter was light and crispy. This is a very nice restaurant. Prices are $$-$$$. The wine list is quite good and well priced. They also have a full bar. Our service was prompt and friendly. There is a large, rear parking lot. The decor is sophisticated and welcoming.

What a gem! I used to come to come to the window outside when they first opened to get a "rom's sauce" as well as a few other items I can't remember but haven't been here since I moved to California 11 years ago. And wow! I would definitely be here often if I lived local. The bar looked inviting and the entire place is beautiful and esthetically pleasing. We had a half circle booth where my family and I dined in the early evening. The menu has something for everyone. I'm not a seafood fan so I mean it's name, fins and Tales doesn't mean it's not for you, there's definitely something for everyone. I had the chicken parm and the chicken was perfectly fried with melted cheese and I loved it. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the sauce is the BEST, reminds me of Rom's but slightly different, in a good way, and the only thing that could make it better was homemade fresh pasta. And literally I would be back in heartbeat for fresh pasta. My son and mom got the NY strip streak that was cooked as ordered medium rare. One had mashed potatoes and the other French fries. Mashed was good, french fries not hand cut but were good. Broccoli was the veggie and they both ate theirs first, I didn't even get to try it so that's a good thing! The anancini was amazing and even surpassed my moms first thoughts about trying it which is a major win for her in the "trying new things" department. The bread was FRESH and amazing. The tapenade was good, tasting of green olives, capers and possibly anchovies, a little goes a long way. My son and mom were not fans but my son ate half a loaf of bread I think. The margarita was delicious. I'd love another! The fried cheesecake was the best I've ever had. I mean it. Wow. Sauce on the side though, I'm not a raspberry fan. Our server Danni was wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu. She was lovely and dealt well with my mom with patience, who is tough to please. I thank her for her great service. This is most definitely a local hidden gem and I'd love to return and eat here more often. Service, atmosphere and food that was all a knock out of the park. Way to go Fins and Tales!

Ate here 5/14/2022. Everything we had was excellent...the fresh bread with olive tapenade, fried oyster appetizer, and especially the seafood casserole special which had fresh scallops, shrimp, and haddock. Good local beer selection. Friendly service. Definitely recommended.

We enjoyed a family meal here between Christmas and New Years and it was excellent. Food and waitstaff were equally great. Will come back.

However, after our experience this past Sunday, I am incredibly frustrated to say that we will not be returning. The issues began before we sat down. We attempted to order the Valentine's Special as advertised, only to be told it wasn't available. When another member of our party tried to order a luncheon item, we were told it wasn't served on Sundays--despite the menu giving no indication of such a restriction. The service and food quality only declined from there. We ordered a large clam strip dinner, a lobster scampi, and a sea scallop dinner. After an excessively long wait, the food finally arrived, but it was a mess. My "large" clam strip dinner was relatively small, and instead of the lobster scampi, we were brought a lobster mac and cheese. When I informed the waitress of the mistake, she took the mac and cheese back, but it took another five minutes just for her to return and officially put the "rush" order in for the scampi. By the time my wife's meal finally arrived, the rest of us were completely finished eating. To make matters worse, the scampi was a total letdown--I've never seen a scampi served with a cheese sauce and no tomatoes. It was so unappealing she couldn't even finish it. To top off a day of errors, the waitress approached us after we placed the corrected scampi order to tell us we owed more money because she had initially charged us for the wrong item. Being asked to pay an upcharge for a mistake made by staff, especially after the kitchen failed to have the meal ready with the rest of the table, is completely unacceptable. We have enjoyed coming here in the past, but after the lack of professionalism and poor food quality we've seen over our last few visits, we have lost our confidence in this restaurant.

The french fries hold their own too. The remodel is beautiful--bright, clean, and the boat-inspired bar adds a fun touch. It's an order-at-the-counter setup with friendly, upbeat staff that make the place feel welcoming and relaxed. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but it's seafood done right, and everything I've tried has been well worth it. Bonus: their ice cream menu is massive and consistently delicious. A real gem for casual coastal fare inland.

Unfortunately, the hunt continues for good crab rangoons. The interior is quite large, and while the lobby has a nice fountain, the dining area rug is ratty and the seats are patched with tape. Like American Chinese food, the best years are behind us with this place. The service was super friendly and attentive, at least. I started off with a pu pu platter, for no other reason than it's been a long time. The experience is just a fun as I remember, and actually all the appetizers on the platter were great, with the exception of the crab rangoons which are the, now typical, all cream cheese and no other flavor variety. Also ordered was a rice plate with more of the same appetizers, pork lo mein, chicken mei fun, and scallion pancakes. The mei fun was the best thing we got all day. It was cooked just right, tasted fine, had a little slip to the noodles without being greasy. The lo mein was too heavy on the propane, so the wok hei was thrown off. The scallion pancakes lacked flavor, e even with the ginger sauce, and the texture was too dense. I've driven past here on trips to Old Sturbridge Village in the past, came here just for the restaurant today, and now will have to resume driving by it in the future.
