You're right at National Harbor, so everything is walkable....restaurants, shops, the waterfront. It made the trip feel easy and low stress. I will say, while the suite is spacious and comfortable. They have made renovations but some areas could use a little updating. Things like the countertops and faucets felt a bit dated compared to everything else. Not a dealbreaker at all, just something you notice. There is a daily parking fee that guests are responsible for, $25 a day. Service was good overall, staff was friendly and check-in/check-out was smooth. All in all, I'd stay here again. Rooms are very tiny, even for two people. Mediocre experience overall, but relatively inexpensive if using Hyatt points and worth it for a short time due to its convenient location and proximity to DC.

When my sister responded that she could make the show I immediately looked for a hotel in Old Town Alexandria (VA). I've lived in Alexandria for 14 years and believe we're well served by the hotels operating locally. Because she would be arriving from New York on Amtrak, I looked for hotels in Alexandria that are within walking distance of the King Street Metro station. There's an Embassy Suites, a Hampton Inn, a Hilton, and a Hyatt Centric, all within a five-minute walk from the Metro station. Right from the start the experience was a good one. My reservation was quickly recognized, as was my membership in the World of Hyatt, Hyatt's loyalty program. I was able to cover the cost of two nights ($580.92, including taxes, total for the two nights) when I checked my sister into the hotel. The hotel is perfectly located for using the Metro bus and rail lines (a five minute walk to Metro's Yellow and Blue lines and bus lines) - including the bus that will take you across the river to the MGM Grand Hotel in Oxon Hill, Maryland. There's also a free bus and trolley circulator and free DASH buses that all share a bus stop directly across the street from the hotel. The bar is well stocked and staffed by friendly and courteous bar staff. There's a valet service (best to check first about the cost - I think it was $45 per night but I didn't need it so I'm not sure I have the price right). The Hyatt Centric Old Town is probably the newest of the national brand hotels located near the King Street Metro station. It's clean, reasonably priced for the area, and as far as I can tell it's a safe and secure option for visitors to the DMV (District, Maryland, and Virginia).

I especially liked that they had in-room snacks available for purchase as well as a Nespresso machine! Now that is a big selling point as I love coffee and I was able to enjoy it every morning from the comfort of my room. After I got settled in and put my clothes away, I decided to walk around the hotel to see what was what and when I say that this hotel is cute as hell, I mean that! The lobby seating area is very eclectic, and allows for intimacy for two or a group of four to chat. They also have a beautiful cream colored chaise that I'm sure so many Instagram people took photos on. They also have a cinema room which I got to enjoy all by myself and watched two movies. The bar area and the restaurant overall is absolutely gorgeous-very much so aesthetically pleasing. Love the little cafe where I had my matcha oat milk latte every day and the gym is absolutely incredible. They provide a refillable water fountain, as well as refrigerated bottles along with rolled up cooling towels as well as towels to dry off from your sweat. They had a couple of treadmills, bikes, ellipticals and functional weight machines for you to truly get your sweat on. I learned that they had a Pilates studio what I didn't indulge during my time there. I went to the bar every night for happy hour and enjoyed some libations and the food. The artichoke and the grilled broccolini were two items I've thoroughly enjoyed off of the menu and the Pinot Noir I had was so light and fresh- I wish I remembered the name of it. Lastly, I've loved where the hotel was situated. It is very walkable to the shops in Old Town, about a 12 minute walk and it's also close to the Potomac waterfront to be able to relax and take in the views. We made the best out of the stay but there are areas of this place that needs upgrades. The place could use fresh paint, carpet needs to be cleaned in the bedroom, Shower curtains in the bathroom need to be replaced and some dusting would be helpful. I quickly took an inventory of the items in the room that broken and poorly repaired, and realized that not only was this a setting for a mob hit, but a comedy as well: The AC unit had an extension cord running into the bathroom and would cut off if you turned the bathroom light off. The wooden flooring was missing a large chunk. The refrigerator leaked and stopped working mid-stay The front curtain was a bedsheet, allowing streetlight to cascade in. Cigarette burns on bedsheets Missing towel rack Missing handle on toilet, replaced with an old phone charging cable. A somewhat sketchy route 1 area, reminiscent of the movie Barfly or Mean Streets... ok, maybe not quite that bad, but you get the idea. With all this in mind, I was at first baffled as to how this place still had a 3.5 rating until I checked the dates of its reviews. It seems that 7 to 9 years ago it racked a number of 5 star reviews, with customers using words such as charming, quaint, and love. I can only surmise that it must have changed ownership and fell into disrepair. However, it is not all bad news. I did find some good things that saved this place from the abyss 1 star hood. The people working the front desk were nice and tried to help you out. It was clean. It didn't have any bedbugs. And finally, I wasn't murdered. All that being said I hold no malice for this wounded soldier of a motel. There is a sort of charm in its despair; it's like broken down boxer that with a Rocky-like work might deserve another shot at the title.

I found the lighted panel by the door to be very bright in the middle of the night -- shining like a beacon -- summoning me from the depths of slumber. But otherwise, the bed was cool (ALX temps in the 90s), comfortable and luxurious. A little stingy with the towels, but I didn't ring for more. Great location just steps away from King Street and shops and restaurants. We dined at Kiln, but sadly did not get a chance to experience the speakeasy nor the rooftop bar. (Our bad fortune). The outer appearance and entrance areas of the hotel are clean and inviting. The basement where breakfast is served has large panorama windows and is well lit. Breakfast was very satisfactory for our in-laws. The usual free breakfast IHG provides. These were the satisfactory attributes of the hotel. The unsatisfactory attributes of the hotel: You can see signs of the original VOQ building despite renovations done to make it a hotel. There was a stained crack wall area by the hotel room. One of the elevator doors was out of order. The hotel room was so so yet looked satisfactory. No problems. Overall, we were not highly satisfied with this hotel. We decided that we would book our in laws in the other hotel on base.

If you're headed too, or we're going to stop in Fredericksburg, Virginia then we highly recommend the Country Inn and Suites by Radisson at 656 Warrenton Road Fredericksburg Virginia. Why? Because you won't be so pleased with yourself that you choose to stay at this hotel. How do I know that? Because I spent over one hundred nights a year on the road in hotels for much of my over three decades professional career doing exactly that. First and foremost, is very friendly, and polite staff who accommodated our request for a quiet room away from the highway and away from the elevators. Secondly, our room was clean, and the bathtub shower, bathroom sink, refrigerator, microwave, and especially the TV, with a wonderful Samsung picture all worked well, as they all should! Although the pool area is indoors, it was a nice size for an indoor pool at a hotel. Three, I am a breakfast person, as I do not start my day without breakfast. Their breakfast is good, had healthy choices, and there was plenty for everyone who wanted to eat. Vivian, who was managing our breakfast on Sunday morning could not have been nicer, while being a real hoot to boot. We also want to let you know that we were visiting because a good friend of ours for over thirty-seven years passed away suddenly we were both quite depressed. So again, I cannot adequately express our appreciation, and respect we now feel for the staff of this wonderful hotel because they did not add any additional obstacles we had to overcome in our time of severe grief.
