How can I rate this a One Star with everything else 3 stars or better? Easy. Look at my bill and compare to their website. We arrived during happy hour prior to the Moon Tunes later that evening. We sat and ate at the bar. Having never been here before we asked the bartender what drinks were on the happy hour menu and he waved over the signature and classic cocktails, plus some beers on the inside of the menu, plus said any well drinks. We then asked about the appetizers and he read off a list. We decided on the cheese curds. The Crow website says "$5 Apps - $5 Taps - $5 House Cocktails" which included several the bartender showed to us. The appetizer was charged at $11.99- $4.99, NOT $5.00. The drink menu says nothing about our drinks being made as "doubles"'; however, our bill clearly reflects what we were charged which was not $5.00 as we were led to believe by the bartender. The menu says to pick one whiskey or bourbon of your choice and it already says it includes "sweet" in the drink, but I was charged an extra $2.00 for mine, plus full price for the liquor! After our meal with time to spare, we decided on 2 well whiskeys, which the lady bartender said was Old Crow, so we each ordered an Old Crow and coke. Low and behold, it is still Happy Hour and we were charged $6.00, not $5.00 each for our well drinks. Needless to say, neither of us will return to an establishment that is as dishonest as "The Crow" nor will we ever recommend to any of our many friends or relatives to ever visit this establishment with this type of underhanded pricing. The food? It was as good as any other place downtown, just a little different, just don't order anything to drink from the bar. read more

Just to be clear, I've never been inside this establishment, so my review is based solely on the food that I ordered. I got the opportunity to try their food when the office ordered take out for everyone. I ended up ordering the Cheesy Brisket Melt (with extra pickled jalapenos) and a side of combo fries. The meal itself was pretty good and the portion size was generous. The melt was very rich and cheesy because it had cheese AND cheese sauce on it. The brisket was nicely smoked and wasn't too overpowering, which added another layer of beefy richness. I felt the mushrooms were unnecessary and the fried onions added a nice textural contrast. The only thing balancing these rich flavors came from the acidity of the pickled jalapenos (I'm so glad I ordered extra otherwise the melt would have been too rich for me). I did wish that the melt had something else to balance the overall richness of flavors to make it even more balanced. The fries were well seasoned and fried to a perfect golden brown color. Overall, not a bad take out experience. Would recommend if anyone wants to try this place out. read more

In La Crosse for 3 weeks and have eaten at the Crow 5 times and can highly recommend the Mac and Cheese, the Monday night special. Generous serving, enough for a nice lunch the following day. I visited here with a colleague for a work lunch and, sadly, neither of us was impressed. But first the good stuff: The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food is reasonably priced: between $10 and $13 for lunch with a side. Two meals and non-alcoholic beverages before tip was $30. The second part, though? The food wasn't good. My colleague had a turkey and avocado sandwich with a side of turkey chili. The sandwich was kind of boring and the chili was almost too spicy to be edible. There are a variety of crazy burgers in the menu (fancy a burger with a glazed donut, perhaps?), and I ordered a Beyond Burger with their "crunchy nacho" fixings (includes nacho chips, fried jalapeños, and avocado). The burger was dry and fairly tasteless, and the size was teeny tiny. It came with fries, which were okay. But overall the meal was a disappointment. read more

Stopped here mainly because of 1 item.... donut burger !!! I had only seen one of these on Facebook videos and Bloggers posts.... well this restaurant had one !!!! My impression? Pretty dang awesome. Donut was like a Krispy creme, burger patty was thin but still good. Combination of sweet and savory was delicious. Not something I could eat every time out, but definitely worth trying !!!! I went there on Saturday 10-12-24 was seated at 12 o'clock though the restaurant was busy, it took 2 hours to get our food. When we did get our food, we were informed that the cream of broccoli soup was gone. We ordered onion rings that took longer and when we did get it all of it was cold. My sister in laws burger was completely under cooked. We sent everything back and even though they did not charge us, they wanted to give us free appetizers, if we returned. I can assure that would never happen. I tipped the waitstaff 20 dollars as it is not his problem, but the kitchen staff. Would avoid this restaurant at all costs. read more

This was one of our last dining-in experiences pre-pandemic and now 2 years later meeting up again with our same La Crosse friend. They were accommodating of the toddler - crayons, high chair right away. Our drink orders were taken right away and our food order in a timely manner. We did wait a while for our food, at least 30 min it seemed. I got the honey mustard chicken sandwich which was a good mix of flavors with chicken, perfectly done bacon, and sauce were the most prominent on a soft white roll. The sandwich was just big enough, not overwhelmingly so. The mixed fries were seasoned well and crispy. I would note too there's not a formal changing table in the womens restroom (unless it was in the handicap stall). There is a generous amount of counter space by the sinks which is helpful if you happen to have your own changing pad with you. Overall, we were happy with our experience but for the wait. Great staff and service. Food took a minute but we had a party of 8. Had the cheese curd appetizer with came with ranch and marinara sauce. Their ranch tasted freshly made which was refreshing. The place itself is fine and the food is okay if you are looking for a sports bar/expecting bar food. We loved that the fries were a mix of different kinds! The service was super friendly and the menu has many many options . We started with chicken nachos and wine and then ordered the chicken honey mustard wrap with a flat bread pizza . Seriously WTF people. Aaron gave us a menu and cocktail and beer list straight away when we sat down, but for the next 10 minutes he never even so much is looked our way. Finally my wife was capable of flagging down the bar back who turns to the closest waitress and says, "those people want to place an order". She then continues to fiddle with her receipts for another minute and then walks directly towards us makes a sharp left and addresses somebody else. The guy to our left was laughing at our situation until he walked out. They were close to five people working the bar four of them engaged in conversation with a group that included someone's significant other. First time since bars and restaurants opened up that I've seen more staff than patrons I guess I understand why. Plenty of people wanting to make money and you have surplus of staff phoning it in. Bad day in La Crosse apparently. Sat down at the bar to have dinner. The bartender handed me a menu and took my drink order. Great start! After that it was a process of waiting and trying to flag people down for help. The bar back was way more helpful then the 2 bar tenders. Not like the bar was full it was less than 1/2 fill. Waited forever to place my order. Food came out reasonably fast delivered by a runner. No napkins and no ketchup for my burger. I was half done with my salad before I could get the bar backs attention. The bartenders had walked by (Again) several times with out noticing me waving. To cap it off I had to work at paying my bill. Never got my water filled or a new drink, I tried but just gave up. Be careful there is a 3% charge for using credit!!!! The bar tenders had something going on straight ahead of me because they spent a lot of time there. They have expanded their bourbon selection, and while they do have "rare and unique spirits" I would only apply that description to a few of their bottles. Also, I think their statement that they have "LaCrosse's largest selection of bourbon" is debatable (e.g. the bar at Charmant). The problems - service was very slow and at least two of the orders had issues (e.g. one sandwich had cheese on it but ordered without, one person didn't get a side order). read more

While I was in Wisconsin, I came across this place. Great atmosphere and decorated very nice. I ordered the Mac n cheese create your own bowl. Grilled chicken, tomato, spinach and garlic parmigiana cheese . It was very good and a very large portion. Had a spotted cow light beer. Place so good, I went back with some friends. read more

My friends really like the Crow and we have been here a few time. Our waitress happened to be a friend of us so I won't review the service. In term of food, I ordered a chicken bacon flat bread, a donut burger, and cheese curds. The cheese curds were really good. The outside batter was really crunchy and the cheese inside was melt-y and chewy. The bacon flat bread was good; the toppings worked together really well although the crush can be a little bit more crunchy. The glaze donut was, in my opinion, little bit odd. I didn't think the burger taste went well with the sweetness of the glaze donut. The donuts also tasted like cheap donuts from a gas station. In general, I would ordered the cheese curds and the flat bread again, but probs not the donut burger :p read more

Went back in the evening for drinks and snacks, they earned another star, although.... So, went back around 9pm for drinks and things with some co-workers. Place is busy, with lots of 20-30 somethings. They do have a great bourbon/whiskey menu, with even a couple of decent rye offerings (good for WI, not good for NY) Basically it was just having Rye that got them the extra star. Having said that, the cheese curds and the duck wontons were also very tasty. TOC was busy, but not too loud so you had to shout to have a conversation. Good place to go. Drink prices fair. Not cheap, but not stupid expensive. What's the downfall? Well, some may find this picky, but if your going to be a bar that really wants to be known for it's Whiskey/Bourbon/Drink menu, perhaps the wait staff should be better trained on those items. I mean, at least have a clue about some of the differences, or at least know what's on the menu. If I ask for a Sazerac Rye neat, perhaps the wait staff should know that is something your selling and not ask "what is that?". read more

The only thing I have to say is Cheese curds. The Crow has the best cheese curds in the area. The group I was with had never been to the state and we were super excited about trying the cheese curds...so...we ordered 8 servings of them... Seriously. So good! The service was excellent, I think the waitress was having fun with us b/c of our weird order, and we were also enjoying lots of great local craft beer, but either way, she was excellent. Visited from out of town, and stopped at the Crow for lunch. I think they had the best cheese curds out of all of the restaurants i tried in La Crosse.
