This is my favorite place in Coeur d'Alene. It has a good location on the main downtown street. I like the decor inside and it makes you feel that you're in a proper English pub. The workers here were very friendly. They take your order at the bar and then bring the food over when it's ready. I came here for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, I had their bangers & mash. They make their own sausage in house and have rotating flavors. I tried their bratwurst & curry chicken sausages, both were great. My husband ordered their sausage roll, which came with a crisp puff pastry and sauce. He also ordered the chip butty, which are chips on a ciabatta roll. Later in the day, for lunch, we shared a scotch egg. The scotch egg was perfectly runny and had a crisp outside. We also shared the fish & chips and ordered the cod as the fish. It tasted very fresh and flavorful. All of our food was great here. I would highly recommend this place. read more

I asked for recommendations from the girl who worked there and she recommended one vegetarian item on the appetizers rather than being enthusiastic about the menu at all. The food was ok, but overpriced for what you got. I liked my fish and chips with mushy peas. The sausages were ok, flavor-wise, but kinda... soft... no sausage "snap" to them. What a great place! We were wandering around Sherman Ave on a Sunday afternoon after visiting the Coeur d'Alene Flea Market and my wife was feeling like fish and chips. After looking at a couple menus on surrounding restaurants, we saw The Crown and Thistle down N Fourth Street. I'm glad we did. She got the small plate fish 'nuggets' and chips (The Simon) and I ordered the Guinness Short Rib Pie and the side salad (The Rocket). Mine was incredible. The pastry was very flaky and the filling was nice and flavorful. Be careful, though, because it is extremely hot. Don't touch the bowl, break up the pastry and let it sit for a bit while you enjoy the salad. My salad wasn't overly dressed and had a lot of flavors and textures. Her fish was well cooked and they gave her a ton of fries. Sit and then order at the bar. It took a bit for the food to come out, but we were in no hurry. The bartender was pleasant and friendly. The building is one of the oldest in Coeur d'Alene and it was decorated perfectly. There are some really cute booths along the wall. Great experience. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant! Some family said they had the best fish and chips, which my husband loves, so we went to find out. I love that they are both very eclectic in styling choice and also very welcoming of all sorts. Their wooden booths that were wallpapered was definitely an experience (so unique!). My husband said they were the best fish and chips he's had in the area (dude, those fries are legit!) and I really loved my leek and potato pie. We have a tradition of visiting an Irish pub in every state or country we visit, this was our Idaho pub visit. It was such a great place to relax and grab some food after a long drive through Montana. The booths are so nice and cozy and great for helping keep our 3 year old contained. The pub has a great vibe to it, the bartenders were super friendly and happy to recommend both food and beer. The decor throughout was great, including the Clash wash your hands sign in the bathroom. Really cool that the bangers are made in house, so we ordered the flight of them. Can't go wrong trying them all, they were really good, I can't recall the flavors on the board the day we were there but they didn't disappoint. Ordered the fish and chips as well. It was a tad overcooked, but still juicy and not too oily. Good seasoning, fairly light batter, would have been perfect if pulled from the fryer 30 seconds sooner. Having HP sauce was a really nice touch as it is hard to find at most pubs in the US. Got a hand pie for our daughter as it was small enough for her and she really enjoyed it. It was a busy Saturday afternoon when I walked in. There was only one lady doing the bar, taking orders, waitressing etc. I can't believe how she managed to cope with everything. She needs a trophy. Anyway, the scotch egg was amazing. It sat on this bed of greens which had a delicious mustard vinaigrette glazed on it. We were not impressed and really question all of the favorable reviews of this restaurant. Lots of good reviews but we thought that the food and atmosphere was subpar. We tried this restaurant twice and both times we walked away with a poor experience. The atmosphere seems awkward and the staff seems unfriendly. The last time we were here (about a month ago) I had the fish and chips and my wife had bangers and mash and both seemed like reheated (banger and mash) or precooked (fish and chips) food. So. My boyfriend made me drive to Coeur D'Alene to go here from Montana. I am not kidding. We got the bangers and mash which was amazing. We got one of each- the Tim Curry was the best in my opinion. The mash was SMASHING. My mouths actually watering thinking about it. The gentleman working at the bar was such a rockstar, helped us order and had friendly banter. There are comfy couches, big tables, big tables with a more private feel and cushions, an outdoor area, and games free to play! You could spend all afternoon there. Definitely go here if I haven't convinced you yet. Good place for a group hang, a date, or just getting out of the house. Was screamed at by a waitress (tall, blonde, 40s) when we tried to sit down in a booth and the table hadn't been cleaned yet. Before you come for me, we had our toddler with us an its easier to keep him contained in a booth, and it was a Saturday so we wanted to grab it before someone else did. Nobody waits on your table so we didn't think it would be an issue. Anyway, she came over shouting so loud that the guy playing guitar stopped, and the other costumes turned to stare. Pretty embarrassing. I apologized to her, and she turned her back and walked away without response. I have worked in restaurants since I was 16, so I understand the annoyance, but not the shouting and scene making. We were gonna stack the dishes and move them to the edge to prevent any "confusion". Anyway, not coming back. Im guessing their business wont suffer since I see allot of references to the staff's rudeness. If you dont like rude/mean staff you'll be disappointed here. read more

I have to laugh at the people leaving bad reviews due to their own misunderstanding. First, this is not an Irish pub. It's a British Pub. Second, this is Idaho. The liquor license system is stupid so there are plenty of places that only serve beer and wine. Also, ordering at the bar is exactly how British pubs operate. Don't knock off stars and refuse to tip because of your ignorance. This place is quintessential British pub. Great bangers and mash, fish and chips, and the only full English I'm aware of within hundreds of miles. The beer selection is British too, with some local stuff as well, IIRC. The decor is on point for a British pub, as is the service. Don't expect the server to be your friend. They're there to work not listen to you blather on about your day. You're meant to meet friends at the pub and tell them about your day. So in summary, great food, great ambiance, and great service. If you're looking for a bartender to pour you a crappy cocktail and give you a fake smile, you might want to jog on. read more

Was attending a conference and came here for dinner. The seating arrangements are fairly "sit wherever you can," but the locals that frequent this establishment were very welcoming. The staff was attentive. The local library (?) was having a Christmas party so seating was at a minimum. The beers were great. A friend of mine wanted to meet at the Crown & Thistle and I am VERY glad he did. It definitely has the feel of a British pub. We enjoyed it enough that when family visited we took them there as well. This was our second visit and we arrived with a group of six, which was growing to eight. The owner was very quick to get us set up at a table as they don't have a table for that many set up. You order beers and food at the bar. They have a great beer selection and even have three cask ales on, which is not very common in the U.S. The food is really good. Mostly traditional British pub food including mushy peas with the fish and chips. The short rib Guinness pie is excellent, as are the Scotch eggs. I had a chance to meet Derrick the chef before we left and give him my compliments. Derrick your cooking as well as the ambience will bring us back regularly. It was my wife's birthday and we were in Couer D'Alene Idaho and we just took the awesome Lake Couer D'Alene boat cruise. We headed over to this British pub and they had a chicken brat on special. It was amazing. Super flavorful and they had a bunch of good beers on tap. The servers were cool and the atmosphere was pubish, if that is a word. I got one of my brother-in-laws fish from the fish and chips and it was wonderful and flakey and the tartar sauce was some of the best I have ever had. Super creamy and a great dip for the perfect French fries. If you like British Pubs, these guys bring it! read more
