An unforgettable dining experience in Coeur d'Alene. As someone who spent over 15 years working in fine dining, I don't hand out five-star reviews lightly. From the moment I sat down on the patio at Midtown Bluebird, I knew this place was something special. The atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for on a beautiful Idaho evening, relaxed, welcoming, and effortlessly comfortable. I ended up chatting with the couple seated next to me for over 30 minutes, which says a lot about the kind of place this is. Great food has a way of bringing people together. I started with the house-pickled vegetable flight, and it absolutely stole the show. The presentation was beautiful, but what impressed me even more was hearing the story behind it. Our server explained how the vegetables are pickled in the cellar downstairs, and you could immediately tell this wasn't just another appetizer, it was something crafted with pride and intention. Every vegetable had its own unique flavor profile. If you're someone who loves pickles or even finds yourself sipping pickle juice after opening a jar, this is a must-order. It was one of the most memorable appetizers I've had in a very long time. I also ordered the seasonal salad, featuring beets, fingerling potatoes, pickled onions, cheese, and a light vinaigrette. It was incredibly fresh, balanced, and vibrant. Every bite showcased the quality of the ingredients, and it paired beautifully with the rest of the meal. It's the kind of salad that reminds you seasonal dishes can be every bit as memorable as the entrée. The warm focaccia with herbed butter was simple perfection. Crisp on the outside, soft and airy inside, and impossible to stop eating. For dinner, I ordered the chef's special, flat iron steak with chimichurri, asparagus, and grains. The steak was cooked beautifully with a perfect char, the chimichurri was bright and fresh without overpowering the meat, and every component on the plate felt intentional. Nothing was there just to fill space, it all belonged. To top it off, I enjoyed a couple of outstanding local Idaho beers on tap. The selection was excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. What really elevates Midtown Bluebird, though, is the hospitality. The service was knowledgeable, genuine, and passionate. You can tell the staff believes in what they're serving, and that enthusiasm makes the experience even better. Owner-operated restaurants like this are becoming harder to find, and they're worth supporting. This isn't a place trying to chase trends, it's a restaurant focused on craftsmanship, quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and creating an experience you'll remember long after you've left. Loved the ambiance and vibe. Very cute and tbh fried chicken and pickles are my jam so I came specifically to try that. My waitress may have been checked out. I said several times I don't eat butter so didn't wash Nashville, she said oh it's a dry rub then when I saw another plate arrive said oh no is that how it comes can we please not put mayonnaise on top of mine for the miso honey. Anyway my plate arrive arrived covered in butter and cheese. Who puts cheese on fries without saying so? So I obviously could not eat any of it. I didn't bother to have them remake it and paid for an un-edible meal but asked her what could I have done differently she said tell us about your allergies and I was like, well I did. I told you I don't eat butter and the cornbread still arrived with the biggest slab of butter I've ever seen. Like wtf? Disappointing. A cool little spot right on the old main strip through town. Seating in rather limited, but even so we were seated pretty promptly given the earlier time and a reservation. The vibe is upscale bar and the food options mirror that aesthetic. Our dining companions ordered some eggplant fries as an appetizer, and we got the chance to sample it. They came lightly fried and topped with tomatoes, feta, onions and drizzled with a balsamic reduction. Quite good! For main dishes, my wife and I split two options...the tater tot poutine and a Dad burger. The crispy tots were piled a mile high, topped with Cougar gold cheese sauce, bacon bits and a fried egg. It was so decadent! The Dad burger was not quite as impressive as it was overdone...waygu beef, LTO, American cheese, pickles and a bacony-mayo sauce on top. My sister and I went here on a girl's night out recently and it was unexpected! Based on the menu and the website we anticipated this place being a little more like a bistro than what we walked in to. When we walked in, the inside felt more like a pub or a bar than it did a bistro. We had reservations, and were sat quickly. We asked to sit outside, because it was a beautiful evening and they accommodated. The food: We started with a bottle of white wine to share and the Brussel sprouts with pork belly. They were really good! We both really enjoyed them! I loved the pork belly version way more than the bacon Brussels! I will say they def have a kick, so if you don't like spice - proceed with caution! For our entrees we got the parmesan crusted halibut and the salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the risotto was also cooked well. It had a very sweet flavor that I don't know I loved, but that was just a personal preference. I am more of a savory person. My sister enjoyed the halibut itself, but it wasn't really what she was expecting when it said parm crusted. We had both envisioned a crust all around the halibut, more like a breading, but this parm crusted halibut had basically a parmesan chip on top. It really tasted like a cheeze-it. It wasn't bad, but not preferred. The service was fantastic. Our server was very sweet, helpful, and attentive. I think if we were presented with the opportunity we may try more dishes here. I honestly do not remember the flavors of the food after the first few bites, but what I do remember is that the presentation was great and the first few bites were delicious. The reason we cannot remember, is because the wine was great! We ordered from the wine list, but our waitress recommended ordering from the reserve list. Five glasses later, we were a little tipsy and enjoyed picking from our food and drinking wine. AGAIN, the service was AWESOME! The restaurant was clean, touristy, and very nice. I am making this the go to place when we are back through this area. You cannot miss! My husband and I have been dining here for almost ten years. It'd been months since we'd been, because inflation. It was disappointing, especially as it was for a special occasion. The smoked Caesar salad is now obviously pre-made and then refrigerated. It wasn't very smoky (have made a version of this myself) and it was smothered with an overwhelming dressing. Not great. My beef tenderloin was lovely except that its demiglace was made with straight Better Than Boullion, i think; unbelievably salty. We had a disappointing cheesecake that had a weird texture, and also seemed salty! We ordered a very nice, reasonably priced bubbly. We had to ask for an ice bucket. We also had to ask for water. Which brings me to the waitstaff. Both ice bucket and water were slow to appear. Our waitress has been there too long, maybe. She wasn't going out of her way for anyone tonight. To be fair, our table was ready when we arrived, with wine list and menus. And the place is starting to look rundown, I'm sorry to say, someone needs to sweep out all the leaves, etc, blows into their tiny foyer more often. Such a mess. We miss Greg who was formerly the house manager and host. He knew us by name and kept the place and staff in first-rate condition. read more

My husband and I were traveling through and stopped for dinner at the recommendation of a local friend. A perfect dining experience! Atmosphere is so pleasant - it was quiet enough to have a conversation, even when all the seating areas were filled. The food was SO good. We had the eggplant fries as a starter because it was different - oh, YES! I would definitely order those again. Our main courses were hot, fresh and delicious! I told my husband the food was definitely made by someone who loved to cook! You could taste it - thank you to our chef - good indeed is your gifting! We had a great meal at Bluebird. My friends and I came into Coeur D'Alene for a week's working vacation and this was our first meal in town. The wait was substantial (1 hr+) on a Friday night, so in the mean time we went across the street to Capone's Pub for some drinks and an appetizer or two. The atmosphere inside was lovely, and between the six of us we sampled a good portion of the menu. Reviews were great all around. My pork tenderloin hit on all the right notes, and the mushroom risotto underneath was perfectly cooked and delightfully rich. I had a side seasonal salad which had apparently just rotated on the menu. It was on the savory side but the soft boil egg was a great touch (we do wish we'd been informed it had bacon in it though, as my vegetarian friend ordered it but was not able to eat it). This would be a five star review if not for the speed of service. Our server was very friendly, but we were waiting well over a half hour (closing in on an hour) for our food to come out of the kitchen. Looking around the place it seemed other people were in the same boat - perhaps the kitchen was just backed up the night we came. The dietary restrictions are tended to by the wonderful caring staff but I do wish they offered gluten free bread of some sort, Or a lettuce wrap, and more GF meal options. Sometimes it was hard to get our waitresses attention but she was friendly and attentive when she was around. I recommend getting a coffee if you like dark French roast. They bring out a French press to your table for your coffee. I had the halibut and fries. The fries were well seasoned and shoestring. The salmon chowder was delicious and filling. This was a very cute spot to go to for dinner! The place is small, but not crowded. We sat at the bar so we can watch the Golden Knights game. The loaded poutine was amazing! It had pieces of juicy pork belly, a fried egg, and other great things. We ordered the burger and the duck. The duck was sliced into medallions and were perfectly tender! I very rarely give out TOP stars, but this place was kind of amazing. My dining experience started out with my greeting at the front of the {historic bldg. which had been previously a "brothel"} restaurant. Cheerfully greeted and {as I was with a "walker" because of my recent hip replacement surgery} she suggested if I wanted a lower table it would be toward the back. She gave me a menu then momentarily disappeared to get me a room temperature water (delightful) and then we discussed the menu. I then ordered with her suggestions and waited. Not too very long thereafter, my lunch arrived - a lovely surprising portion, colorful, well presented and exactly as I was hoping for. The parmesan halibut addition to my seasonal salad (which BTW is not current on their website but my variation was DELISH) was tasteful and moist. The kale based salad was dressed in a cranberry vinaigrette, but I'd asked for a side of Bleu Cheese as well (my weakness, especially if it's a delightful house made version as this was). I only ate half & took the rest home, as it was large enough for two meals - and @ a price point which was reasonable for this day & age! We enjoyed the charcuterie board with our drinks and then took advantage of the great happy hour menu. Nice to see more than appetizers on the happy hour menu. Our party of four all had the halibut and chips. Delicious! Huge pieces of halibut in a light beer batter. Shoestring fries and homemade tartar and ketchup. Our server was great. We've been here twice when traveling and it's been exceptional both times. The tried and recommended: Cheesy Bread - we had a picky eater with us so we had to order it with just the cheese and meat, and it was great. Probably even better with all of the ingredients. Tater Tot Poutine - Excellent. We did not get it Chef style, but it's great as is. Brussels - maybe the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. Bad Dad Burger - my son was very complimentary of this burger and it did look great (he wasn't interested in sharing with me) Fried Chicken Sandwich - really excellent fried chicken sandwich Shrimp & Grits - This was fairly well-liked. Not my preferred style for shrimp and grits, and definitely a bit spicy (in case you are averse) Would love to get back there soon to try some more things. read more

Excellent food. We got there during Happy Hour, and we got the Poutine, Clams, and the halibut fish and chips. The chips were done just a wee bit too much, but that's my only real complaint. The clams were done up in a sauce with tomato, sweet peppers and chorizo sausage. I could have drank the sauce on it's own, it was that good. Since we had our dog with us we sat outside. They have decent shade, and even though the sun was going down we didn't feel like we were getting cooked. Our server was awesome, bringing us jug after jug of water as we were sucking down the H2O like we'd spent the day in a desert. She was the one who recommended the clams. She acted like she was too busy to serve us and instead of ordering lunch we had one drink and walked to another restaurant. We had been wanting to try this place for dinner but not anymore. Everything we had was five stars! We usually have a favorite or two, but we couldn't narrow it down! For *small plates*, they were quite plentiful too. Below, our order for two: - Kushii oysters ($2/ea): Fresh and plump and tasted like the sea. They make their own dressing each day. Ours was an oregano pesto. Yum! - Charred octopus ($15): Sweet and smoky and grilled to perfection. Even the arugula bed was nicely dressed and tasty. - Butter lettuce salad, starter ($6): Crisp and light. I loved the fresh peaches atop. - Baked clams ($16): Little morsels bursting with flavor. The broth was so good! I was happy they had croutons and grilled toasts to sop it all up. - Chef's poutine ($17): Go big or go home. This had everything but the kitchen sink in it. In a good way! My daughter and grandson were greated by a very friendly hostess on Friday night. We did not have reservations and she told us the wait would be up to 45 minutes. We were seated in about 20 minutes. Yeah! The atmosphere is casual and comfy and our server was so nice and informative. We ordered the cheezy bread, baked clams, fish chowder, French fries and octopus. Everything was so delicious, down to the greens that accompanied the octopus. The broth in the chowder and clams was amazing. Great for dipping the fries. It was completely blackened on the bottom and side. So gross. We told the waitress to show the cook and she just gave us a blank look. This should have been comped at the very least. Do better. After sitting in a parking lot deliberating upon what would satisfy our cravings the most, we thankfully decided to eat at Midtown Bluebird and, boy was that a great decision!! We decided to try a few different things and everything was amazing. First off, the pickle plate had four different cups of pickled fruit/veggies. Each one has its own unique flavor including one with raspberries, another with cauliflower, a third with apples, and finally, my absolute favorite, daikon with kimchi. The second was charred octopus with arugula and what they call "spicy love sauce" which I could literally drink. The octopus was cooked to perfection and the arugula/love sauce combo was incredible. Next up, tater tot poutine topped with Cougar Gold cheese sauce, pork belly, and green onions. I would come back JUST for this plate! Lastly, we had the duck. The roasted duck with raspberry teriyaki was accompanied by orange lentil salad and a citrus vinaigrette. Another amazing dish.
