First time to this place, went for lunch. The place was empty since everyone was at Hanks restaurant next door. The service was good and the prices are fair. I had the meatball special which came with a side salad. Cesar salad was very good. The meatballs were OK, very dense. I think they use a lot of filler versus ground beef. The place is a little dark inside with all the wood. I may have to try Hanks next time as I have not been there since the re-build. read more

I was here last week for a work dinner, and the food was absolute 10/10! I'm not big on pasta since it's too carby, but boy was their pasta dish delicious! We were a party at seven for adults and three children, It couldn't have went better. Have to ordering appetizers of meatballs and mussels, which were just delicious. The kids off ordered off the kids menu pasta, ravioli, and they hate it all up . The adults had an order of zuppa, Depeche pork cheese, cheeks with Tagliatell and an order of Gemelli Rapini all of which were spectacular. we finish off with double espresso, chocolate, mousse cake, a crème brûlée, and a tiramisu to go . Went to a Friday night dinner with our Son and his lovely wife. We were seated quickly as we had a reservation. The place is so warm and comfortable. Lots of people already! Service was perfect! We shared a bottle of wine and my husband got Long Island Iced Tea. Both were great. We started with calamari and bruschetta. So fresh and delicious! The bread with an oil with mushed beans was amazing! Our meals were; chicken parm, veal parm and two seafood specials. We all liked our meals and shared lemon cake for dessert. Antica has a very nice atmosphere, and the food is quite good. They have a great selection of classic/speciality cocktails. We started off with very large salads. My partner had the house and I had the Italian wedge. Instead of typical iceberg lettuce, the Italian wedge had 5-6 wedges of Little Gem lettuce. The Italian dressing was light and didn't overwhelm, and the Gorgonzola cheese and pancetta were a nice touch as well. We split the seafood tagliatelle. It was quite good, although the shrimp were a tad overcooked. As for the service, well that's a whole other story. From the moment we were seated, we were ignored. I was not asked if I wanted ground pepper for my salad. After a few minutes waiting for some to show up, I finally got up and got it myself. Hubby asked me out to dinner. He did some research and came up with this place because of the reviews and because it advertises as having gluten free options. There was no gluten free option for the dipping sauce that came with bread. I could have dipped veggies in if it had been offered. Our waitress could have asked the chef for a plate of veggies or they could keep some gluten free crunchy bruschetta on hand. It's really not hard to be accommodating. I ordered the chicken parmigiana. I know it seems boring but I love chicken parm and it is a dish I use to gauge a restaurant. Give me a good marinara sauce and I'll be back to be more adventurous. I asked for their gluten free pasta. They had exactly one choice: penne pasta. There's no reason why they couldn't offer a selection of gluten free pastas. If you are going to offer it then give at least one twirly option. They pan fried the chicken instead of breading it which was fine. The problem was the sauce. It was extremely salty. I usually salt EVERYTHING but not this stuff. Yikes! I ate the chicken and left 80% of the pasta. That sauce was eat to live. Hubby said maybe I put too much cheese on it. Nope. I always use that much cheese everywhere. My husband had a shrimp and risotto dish which he liked very much. The shrimp and risotto were cooked perfectly and were delicious when eaten without the sauces circling the rim of the dish. The rim sauce flavors were too intense for me. The green one tasted a lot like the green plop of stuff in the middle of the dipping sauce. The gluten free desserts were: lemon sorbet, tartufo, and crème brûlée. I'm sick of crème brûlée . That's generally the only dessert restaurants have to offer gluten free customers. I asked if the cheesecake with the blueberry brûlée might be gluten free if I didn't eat the crust. I got two answers from two different people: one yes and one no so I passed. I ordered the tartufo. It was made with half vanilla and half deep dark chocolate gelatos. If you love chocolate you will love it. I don't love chocolate and should have asked what flavors were used. That's on me. Hubby ate my chocolate. In the center was an uninspiring red dye #3 maraschino cherry. The cappuccino was excellent and my husband liked his espresso. The place is very loud. The ambiance was nothing special. The chairs are the second most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in. I actually have sore glutes from the chair 3 1/2 hours later. The parking is stupid. They have complimentary valet service but the spaces right next to the restaurant are blocked off. You literally have to walk further using a valet then if you could just pull in and park yourself. My husband is handicapped. He should have been able to park in a handicap space right next to the ramp to the door. I think valet spaces should be the ones furthest away that get used when the closest spaces are filled up. Honestly the parking made no sense to me but perhaps there is a reason for it. I had the house red wine which was okay. Hubby had a spritzer which he enjoyed. It was too sweet for me and quite bitter as if it had bitters in it or tonic water. At the end of the meal you are offered a complimentary shot of lukewarm limoncello. I prefer my limoncello chilled but I drank it and was thankful for it. For the money I'd prefer Casa Mia in Media, Tessa Rosa in Glen Mills, il Granaio in Glen Mills, or Piccolo Mondo in Coventry. I think there are much better Italian restaurants to eat in but I can't say how gluten friendly they are. I once brought precooked fresh gluten free pasta with me to Piccolo Mondo's and they wouldn't use it. Next time I go to an Italian restaurant I think I'm going to ask for pasta with the sauce in the side. I'll bring a plastic bag to throw their pasta into and secretly pour mine hot out of a thermos bottle and top it with their sauce. What do you think? In this day and age there is simply no reason why a restaurant can't offer high quality gluten free pastas. I went home hungry and ~$120 poorer. read more

Early 6pm dinner on a Tuesday. Despite a nearly empty side dining room we were initially seated in the middle of the noisy bar area. When asked we were quickly moved to the quiet side room. I had the shrimp risotto which was delicious. The "little gem" salad was great but was endive and romaine not little gem. We are frequent diners here and always have a good meal. read more

We went there after a day at Longwood Gardens. Arrived around 5:30 on a Sunday and were seated immediately - 4 adults and one child. The service was wonderful as were the apps (mussels and Caesar Salad) and entrees - veal parm, seafood/pasta special, and a couple of others that can't remember the names of. Probably one of the best Italian meals we've had in quite some time. Oh, and the house made chocolate mousse cake and blueberry cheesecake brûlée were terrific as well. I've been coming to Antica for years. It's very easy to make a reservation and the space is really big. Service is great, waiters are attentive and fill up water when they notice it's low. Situated just a few hundred yards from the Brandywine River Museum in the shadow of Brandywine Prime Steakhouse, Antica (pronounced an-TEE-ka) sounds like some exotic Mediterranean port-of-call. In reality, however, the name is merely a playful nod to the area's long-running enthusiasm for antiquing. Owned by chefs Josh Friedberg and Gent Mema, also proprietors of the popular Il Granaio restaurants in Glen Mills and Phoenixville, Antica's three light & airy dining areas come replete with soothing colorations, a rustic stone wall, and framed prints by Andrew Wyeth, Chadds Ford's favorite artistic son. You sense immediately that this is a cozy, welcoming space... But it is the authentic, lovingly prepared and beautifully presented cuisine that makes this diminutive eatery worth a journey. Originally a BYOB, the restaurant now has a liquor license and boasts a diminutive bar that offers patrons a compact selection of wines by the glass and bottle, brews, and an interesting inventory of specialty cocktails. And although I had dined here on numerous previous occasions over the years, one aspect of the Antica experience that has changed not at all is the excellent quality of the cuisine. As an added bonus, the entrée portions seemed infinitely more prodigious than I remembered them... Leftovers abounded. To start things off, my dining partner and I decided to share the Roast Pork & Broccoli Rabe "Eggroll." A real winner, two crispy rolls are cut on the diagonal and filled with tender slices of pork, broccoli rabe, and kicked up a notch with plenty of sharp provolone cheese. But the real crowd pleaser comes courtesy of the accompanying mustard horseradish aioli... with just enough heat to tantalize rather than paralyze those delicate taste buds. When it comes to entrées, under normal circumstances, we undoubtedly would have chosen the seafood route, as the kitchen is quite adept at matters piscatorial and offered both Sautéed Salmon and Grilled Whole Bronzino on their printed menu. On this particular evening, however, some good old-fashioned down-home Italian fare looked mighty inviting... And my dining partner's Sunday Supper (pictured) - an evening special combining braised pork cheeks, ground sausage, and meatballs in a rich red sauce over homemade tagliatelle pasta - succeeded in warming both body and soul. My own Veal Parmigiana, topped with mozzarella and served up with linguini marinara, Italian comfort food taken to the max, was equally satisfying. The house specialties I've sampled over the years have all been incomparably delicious. So, when various items put in periodic guest appearances, be sure to take advantage of your good fortune. The Pasta Pomodoro, for instance, a deceptively simple dish, still managed to blow me away. It offered a choice of pastas - I ordered linguini - in a pomodoro sauce, which is made with fresh tomatoes, olive oil & garlic and, usually, basil. It is meant to be a quick, light sauce rather than a heavy one. And Antica's version was most assuredly light on the palate... but it was also alive with fresh flavors. On the other hand, the Spinach Fettuccini, a dish with a slightly richer consistency, definitely stepped up the "wow" factor. House-made spinach pasta was sprinkled with toasted pine nuts, tossed with a pesto cream sauce, and topped with shaved Grana Padano cheese. I generally find cream sauces entirely too overwhelming for my palate; but the pesto cream was both light and irresistible. The infusion of basil and garlic added a spicy, earthy dimension that both contrasted with and, at the same time, complemented the luscious consistency of the cream. And the toasted pine nuts contributed a most satisfying textural counterpoint. Among the side dishes, the Carote Marsala - freshly sliced carrots braised in marsala wine and flavored with thin slices of roasted garlic - is highly recommended. Carrots are rarely offered as a restaurant side dish, usually being consigned to some form of innocuous vegetable medley or nondescript garnish. But here, as elsewhere, the kitchen continues to weave its magic with a highly colorful presentation that is both tasty and tasteful. Homemade desserts include such favorites as cannoli, tiramisu, and Bundino di Pane, an Italian version of bread pudding. For my money, however, nothing quite tops the considerable charms of the luscious Lemon Cream Cake. This is a crowd-pleaser at both Antica and the two Il Granaio restaurants. After a substantial Italian dinner (like ours), this delightful denouement hits all the right notes... It's rich, but not cloyingly so. And, unlike some heavy, over-the-top sweet endings, it's also as light as a feather on the palate. The perfect conclusion to your evening at table. read more

We chose Antica to celebrate our daughter's graduation from college and we were not disappointed... the ambiance was warm and welcoming, the service friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the food ranged from very good to near sublime - particular standouts included Pulpo al Griglia, Sunday Supper pasta, and the Swordfish special. A fine selection of cocktails and wine added to the festivities. All in all, a great meal! read more
