This review is for dinner: Cute place, highly suitable for a date. Good service, paced well, no major dead spots. The highlights were a delicious beat and burrata salad, a lovely cheese board, and bangin' bread with whipped butter. We had mixed feelings about everything else. I liked the lobster roll but my companion was not impressed. The truffle cheese fries had unmelted shredded cheese on top; I have to believe someone forgot to put them under the broiler. I liked the quinoa fritters (they had a falafel-like herbaceousness), but my companion said they tasted like nothing. My companion liked the short ribs: I thought the meat was yummy but wasn't into the carrots or the gnocchi. (Dear chef, consider serving the short ribs with the truffle cheese fries; that would be an amazing combo if the cheese were melted.) Lastly, my English Garden cocktail was a little weird, like a cucumber bellini. I was expecting something else, I guess. I could be persuaded to try it again, though. What a disappointment. We've been to Terrain before but this time wanted to try their outdoor happy hour for our daughter's 22nd birthday. We made the reservations for happy hour specifically to sit outside and listen to the live music. When we arrived, even though we had reservations for their happy hour, we were told there were no places outside and they wouldn't even honor their happy hour menu inside. They later came back after realizing they were in the wrong and said they would honor the drink prices but not the appetizers on the happy hour menu. We saw an empty high top table with no chairs outside that we would have stood at, but that wasn't even an option. Instead, we were told we could purchase drinks and walk around outside. Since we were there for a birthday (indicated on the reservation), this was upsetting. We left and found a nearby restaurant with delicious food and all-day happy hour nearby. read more

The space is stunning and every corner you look is well curated landscape snapshot. We arrived around 4:58pm and wanted to order drinks, the kiosk was closed. The staff said they weren't open and then when we asked when they would open, they said 5pm. I feel like they could have provided that information without us asking. The entrance to the cafe is a bit confusing as well and the host table is somewhat hidden. It is also confusing whether or not you can sit down if you simply order drinks. We were simply looking for some guidance and direction is all! Matcha with ginger (5/5) - I cannot recall whether or not this was a ginger shot or syrup but it was really good, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will come back to order it. read more

We went on a lovely Sunday evening. The ambiance is stunning and it wasn't busy at all for our 7:30pm reservation. The menu is fresh and creative and the drinks were absolutely perfect. I would definitely recommend the Hibiscus and Melon Margaritas as well as the mushroom soup. Went to a wedding here 10 years ago now? But hadn't been back since. Which is a shame cause it's such a cool spot. I just never think of Glen Mills for anything. That was an awesome wedding too by the way. Great venue. So we were out at wegmens and that made us hungry. So we put in a reservation while we shopped. I was pretty tired so I got a latte. The proudly serve La Colombe. You can't go wrong there. It's really the best coffee around. We got the hummus platter for a starter. So good. Watermelon radishes, cucumbers, carrots. Mostly veggies and a few chips. I like when it's more veggies. I was for some reason really impressed with the cucumbers. They just tasted so fresh. They make you potted bread with maple salted butter. I didn't have any of the butter. I don't have a death wish. The bread was perfect though. Crispy in the edges fluffy on the midsection. My wife got the rolled lasagna and loved it. I didn't not try it. For my meal I got the lobster roll. Even though I was in New England all week having lobster on this and lobster in that. I'm not sick of it and this did not disappoint. It felt perfect. The sun peering through the skylight. I wore my sunglasses the entire time. We had the loveliest experience at Terrain. Our server was so sweet and well informed about the menu, she walked us through everything. The menu itself was much bigger than I expected with some delicious options. I went with the scallops and everything on my plate was delicious and complimented each other. My mom said her salad was a little dry unfortunately. My brother enjoyed his short rib with carrots (hadn't seen him eat carrots in a while, they must have bee good!) I was with a group of 6 who wanted to try Terrain, so I wound up here after just having been less than two weeks ago. With a group of 6 we were given the option to dine in a Woodland Tent, which I highly recommend doing if you have the chance! This truly elevated our experience, giving us a private place to enjoy our meal. I also want to applaud the staff for serving us in the tent on a very windy and cold day. The weather did not seem to phase them and they were pleasant every time they came to us. I am reducing a star on my overall rating though because of the food at Terrain. While the menu is creative and uses local ingredients, which I love, the food is not why you come here. On this occasion I ordered the stuffed portobello mushroom special, and found my meal to be very bland and cold. It was also supposed to be served with arugula and instead it was served with two small pieces of lettuce. My friend found her pasta dish to be served with too much oil, causing her stomach to hurt afterwards. Lastly, another person in our group was given a burger that appeared raw when asked for medium-well. Our server was accommodating after this mistake, but it is concerning that this could even happen. Delightful dinner! First time sitting near the bar--our table was very secluded and nestled between two plantings. We started off with some seasonal drinks and a charcuterie board which came with five different types of local cheeses and an assortment of usual and unusual accoutrements. The board easily feeds 2-3 as an appetizer or a meal for one very hungry person. The pot pie had flaky crust and ample filling while the crispy skinned salmon arrived perched atop a mound of lentils and charred broccolini. I decided to treat myself to a solo date today and have been wanting to try this cafe so I stopped by. I ordered the lavender white mocha latte with almond milk which was delicious. The coffee they use was good quality and the flavor was perfectly balanced. They brought me bread in a small terracotta pot with lemon poppy seed butter which was so rich and flavorful. For my main, I had the shakshuka with homemade tomato sauce, sourdough bread, and crispy chickpeas which added a nice crunch to the dish. The atmosphere was beautiful and I really enjoyed all of the plants. The pricing was also very affordable. My server was sweet and you can tell everyone likes working here. Terrain really is an amazing place. Beautiful greenhouses, a massive home wares shop that is beautifully curated, and a café with mostly delicious food. You really can't go wrong by coming here. This was my second time, so I have something to compare it to. We came as three adults and two babies with one highchair. We were quite the lunch crew. We ordered the seasonal French toast with pear to start, the chicken pot pie, and the burger. The French toast was absolutely fabulous. Maybe some of the best French toast I've ever had. The burger was a bit disappointing. Previously, they offered a discount to shop after you ate in the café. I was really excited for this, and I was planning on doing some serious damage. But apparently they no longer offer that discount.... Very sad. Like I mentioned, the store is gorgeously curated. But some things are unnecessarily expensive... Like the amaryllis bulbs dipped in wax. I'm pretty sure I bought three for $20 at Costco... One was $40. This is *obviously* not Costco, it's a different kind of craftsmanship, local suppliers, etc... But it does seem like a stretch. They do offer a lot of very pricey rare plants, like orchids and boxwoods. You get why you pay for! Their Christmas section is SO festive. Definitely stop in during the holidays! read more

Wow my friend just wanted to grab a coffee before Longwood so she googled this place and we were so grateful to have stumbled upon such a gem! We oredered to go iced blueberry pie chai lattes (with oat milk) that were heavenly. The restaurant is so cute - very open and green and inviting. The menu looks amazing. I definitely want to return for a meal. I love how it is attached to this amazing garden store with the cutest finds - from home goods to plants and pottery. The most whimsical place. When my husband and I walked in, the warmth of the botanicals and strings of white lighting melted us. We were taken to our table in the magical dining area surrounded by live botanicals. We ordered the exquisite mushroom soup to share. The best ever! Aesthetically, this place gets a star right off the bat. Lovely decor, beautifully thought out design, great gift shop and a sprawling garden store with fabulous options. The second star is for the French fries: those were the best part of our meal. The rest of the experience? Meh-not great. We had a reservation that we arrived a few minutes early for. We waited for quite a while to get seated since the hostess was MIA. When we finally did get seated, it took a while for someone to show up, but we were able to get a drink and appetizer order in (2 Bloody Mary's, one special cocktail, iced tea, fries and quinoa fritters). The bar was so backed up that our drinks arrived way after the appetizers...and only 2 of the drinks were delivered. The other two eventually showed up...and thankfully there was plenty of water on the table. Fries were great; fritters were OK. The main courses: -pot pie: reported back as OK -grilled cheese: "not bad" -short rib and eggs: potatoes were cold and the rest of it was lukewarm -shrimp and grits: cold, lumpy tasteless grits, slightly undercooked shrimp, lukewarm asparagus, drizzle of sauce along the side of a warm bowl. I wasn't going to say anything about the food being cold, but since someone else's was, I fessed up. The server brought over a manager who seemed irritated by us but he did offer to get me/us something else. I declined and had a few bites of grilled cheese. While our server was pretty nice, she disappeared for long stretches. The vibe from the manager was less than pleasant. Word of advice: MAKE A RESERVATION AHEAD TIME! We were in the area, and after doing a yelp review of lunch spots in the area, I really wanted to try terrain. Their page says to use OpenTable for a reservation, but sadly they didn't have any available. I signed up for the "notify me" feature and shortly after that got a notification that there was a dining tent available but it was 18+ and $35 for the tent.. anyways, long story short, we went there to buy a gift card and actually got there right as a spot opened up at the bar, but I didn't see any tents, so I would recommend calling instead of signing up for that on open table. Anyways.. the cafe is connected to a beautiful gift shop full of gardening things, and home decor like candles, flowers, and cook books. The cafe is decorated very nicely with earthy colors. The food was very good. The mushroom soup was very good and tasted like real mushrooms as opposed to tasting like cream and artificial things like a lot of places. Since they give you a delicious complimentary pop over with some yummy butter, I figured the soup would be enough, and it was! That's pretty much where the positives stopped. I sat at the bar, which is generally my preference, and the service was almost nonexistent. Unfriendly staff, no follow up after getting a drink (a bloody mary which was the only delicious part of the meal), and the food runners didn't even speak let alone ask if I needed condiments. All the salt in the world, when I did finally track some down, could not give the eggs benedict any flavor. With tax and tip, it was almost $50 for a disappointing one-person lunch. My husband and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary at Terrain Café and booked one of their Villas, and it was truly unforgettable! We did wait about 30 minutes past our reservation time, but honestly, it did not even feel like an inconvenience. Dan, the manager, went above and beyond. He apologized multiple times and even opened a bottle of wine for us while we waited, which was such a thoughtful touch that made us feel genuinely appreciated! Once we stepped into the Villa, it was worth every second. It was stunning, private, warm, and romantic, and the perfect setting for celebrating something special. The food and drinks were delicious, and the whole experience felt elevated. Our waitress Lauren was incredibly sweet and attentive. Dan came back to personally deliver our charcuterie board and took the time to explain each cheese, and little moments like that truly made the night. The staff made us feel celebrated, not just seated. We left feeling so taken care of, and we have already been telling friends and family that it is a must try for special occasions. I have to start by saying I love this restaurant. The atmosphere and the food has always been amazing. This last trip I was tempted by the lobster roll and truffle fries. Don't be tempted by these but pick something else. There was almost no lobster on the roll and it was covered in a ton parsley to cover up the lack of lobster. Then the truffle fries - the fries just had shredded truffle cheese on top. It melted mind you. Just shredded so it was nearly impossible to eat the fries and cheese together which defeats the point of truffle fries. For $5 dollars it was a disappointment. So still go and enjoy this restaurant but avoid the lobster roll and don't bother to pay extra for the truffle fries. read more

I must say that I am very happy that I did not read the reviews prior to going here or I likely would have chosen another place. My husband and I went here for our anniversary. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the tent rental or we would have done that when booking on Open Table. We didn't have to wait at all but it was also a Thursday so that could make a difference. We really loved the food and said we would come back and try the tent experience. I really enjoyed having to walk through the plants to get to the cafe. High five to whoever came up with that idea. Jazz was our waitress and she did very well with checking on us to make sure everything was ok. The only negatives were that I added a note on Open Table that I wanted them to bring a dessert without us needing to place the order and I absolutely do not like matcha crumbles but everything else was delicious. We had a reservation for 7:15pm. Hostesses were very rude and said they wouldn't be able to seat us until 7:45. There were more empty tables both inside and outside than occupied tables. Incredibly disappointing after making the drive there. Management should educate their hostess staff to say "we are more than happy to seat you at your reservation time, but service is a bit behind". This is usually one of my favorite spots to go when visiting Longwood Gardens, but our most recent visit was overall very underwhelming. Went for dinner with a group of five, two of which ordered the Crab and Shrimp bucatini. Had to ask our server about the crab meat, which was apparently microscopic and not plentiful or even visible to the naked eye. Service was super slow and several things we ordered were incorrect - added prosciutto to our sad cheese plate, but didn't get it and were charged for it (server had the charge removed) and no truffle cheddar on our fries. This was our first time going for dinner and we'll stick with brunch versus dinner from now on. read more
