Extremely disappointing experience. The service was painfully slow and the staff came across as very impersonal. It took almost 30 minutes just to have our order taken, another 30 minutes for soup, another 30 minutes for the calamari appetizer, and yet another 30 minutes for our main dish, which was just a lobster roll. What should have been a simple meal turned into an unnecessarily long and frustrating wait. What made it worse was that our waitress didn't seem apologetic at all about how long everything was taking. In fact, she appeared much more attentive to the table next to us, who she seemed to know personally, while we were left waiting most of the time. To add to that, the water we asked for never even arrived. The experience ended on an uncomfortable note when we went to pay. Our card was flagged for possible fraud (likely because we're not from the area). While my husband was already pulling out cash to pay, a man wearing a beanie and chef jacket stood there in a pushy manner insisting we call the bank immediately while he waited. Between the extremely slow service, lack of attentiveness, and the uncomfortable payment interaction, the entire experience was frustrating from start to finish. I've had this place bookmarked for a while! Today was the day my friend and I visited for lunch. We both got the lobster roll lunch special. $24? Yes please! We were also able to get it whichever way we prefer, hot or cold. We both went with hot! I added a cup of soup to mine for $6. I went with New England clam chowder. Both my lobster roll and the soup were very good! Service was great today (2/18/26 at 12pm). I don't remember our waiter's name, but he was great. First time here for a quick light lunch. The Cull House is right by the Sayville Ferry , so convenient! The woman serving use was so polite and attentive. Thank you . The restaurant is rustic , with plenty of seating and it has a nice bar too. I ordered fish and chips off of the lunch menu . I was pleasantly surprised at the price as it was unexpected , only $15.00 ! The coating on the fish , which was cod , was so delicious , crunchy, crisp and not at all greasy. The fish itself was sweet and not fishy tasting . The chips were a surprise as I expected French fries but it was crispy bake potato pieces . They were absolutely delicious! Came here on a Saturday while family was in town for an early dinner. The outside looked a little run down but it was nice and clean inside. We sat down right away but staff was a little slow as we waited awhile to order drinks + food. Once things were ordered, though, everything came out in a timely matter. I think the only major disappointment was the food itself. Unfortunately, our baked clams were a little fishy and had too much garlic -- also, I'm pretty sure they served us a used lemon wedge which was off putting. As for the food, shrimp was undercooked and my chicken was definitely dry/overcooked. They forgot our baked potatoes and then when served, the plastic butter packages were INSIDE of the baked potato which is a little unsanitary. Not sure if I'll be back -- the staff is super friendly and hardworking but the kitchen just didn't do it for me. Good luck and I hope this pushes some improvements! read more

Went here last night and was highly disappointed. I started off with the Clams Casino (6) which were so small, nickel size. My husband started with 1/2 dozen Raw Oysters which he liked. All 6 of my clams (not including the breading) were the size of 1 of his oysters. For my entree I ordered the Tuesday special which was $28 for a boiled 1 1/4 lb Lobster which doesn't come with any sides. I asked for it stuffed with crabmeat stuffing and that added on $15. Not a big deal....however that Lobster was no way over 1 pound! It was very small. It was cooked properly, not chewy like some places I've been too that overcook them, too bad it was so small. My husband's entree was the boiled Captains platter $34 which he ate most of it except the Bay Scallops that were overcooked and rubbery. The Coconut rice and string beans that came with his dinner were delicious. We skipped on Dessert. Probably won't be returning here with all the other Seafood restaurants in the area to try. read more

To start off, the parking was a pain in the neck. There's is not enough parking for the amount of space they have in the restaurant and usually restaurants would then turn to valet, but they didn't offer that. The surrounding residential neighborhood streets had no parking signs all over. We were attracted to this restaurant because of its outdoor seating and variety of seafood. It also had a chill beach vibe rather than super fancy. The back patio was nice with a bit of a garden (bees were around sporadically). The food was ok, and the prices were affordable rather than outrageous,however, this certainly was not the best lobster roll on Long Island. For apps we had some delicious Long island Steamers. Tender and flavorful, served with drawn butter and clam broth in an iron skillet. Really good! We also had a nice wedge salad, a crisp and snappy favorite of ours. Cull House got this relatively easy salad right. (Sometimes other restsursnt miss on the easy stuff) For mains we had a lobster roll and the broiled fisherman's platter. The lobster roll was "cold style" with sweet snd flavorful lobster meat in light mayo with a small trace of celery. Nicely done. The roll was a garlic buttered brioche style hot dog bun. An interesting variation to the traditional plain white bread hot dog bun. The lobster roll came with 2 sides. We choose coleslaw and coconut white rice. Both sides were nice and the coconut rice was especially flavorful. We also has a broiled fisherman's platter. The platter had a generous portion of bay scallops, shrimp, flounder, a baked clam and a crab cake, really good! it also came with our choice of two sides. We choose coleslaw and steamed broccoli which had a delicious bonus chipotle mayo! Really good! After we finished our meal, Our server brought us over a desert menu with a really nice selection of house made deserts snd desert drinks. Note: dont skip the deserts! Totally amazing! Super good! We had chocolate espresso bars and crem brûlée, both exceptional. So good, Id maybe even come here just for desert! Also consider Cull House for catering! Came here last week with my husband in-laws. Our party of six was promptly seated in the back room. For an appetizer, we ordered fried calamari. It was good but did not have enough calamari rings. It had way too much "squid looking things" which we're not a fan of. I ordered penne a la vodka which came with a house salad. Salad was good but they had creamy balsamic dressing which I was not a fan of so I asked for oil and balsamic vinaigrette. Good basic fried seafood is not as commonly available on Long Island as I expected, being more used to towns in coastal North Carolina and on the Gulf Coast. So, I was pleased to find this place. Had the fried fisherman's platter - fish filet, clam strips, a few shrimp, tiny scallops, slaw and French fries. No hushpuppies this far north :-( Good service, even at 3pm after lunch rush is a distant memory and before dinner staff has arrived. Tasty, not soaked in grease. My famiy has been faithful patrons at the Cullhouse for over 15 years. It's close to our house and we obviously love the food. The food rarely disappoint. However, the service this evening was absolutely appalling. The entire waitstaff huddled at the bar and not one came over to our table. The one busboy never offered water. Worse yet, not one member from wait staff even acknowledged our presence. There were only five other tables at this time so they were by no means busy. We waited 10 minutes. No one came. So we left. My wife thought to inform host that we are leaving because no one came to our table. Host said nothing. It's as if these lazy workers want to get fired so they can collect an unemployment check. They really take the Covid situation seriously, plastic silverware, paper plates, salt and pepper served individually - I haven't seen that since Covid started so good for them. I came with my fiancé looking for steamers. We ended up ordering two orders of steamers, the oysters rockerfeller, and the seafood gumbo. Steamers were good which is why we ended up ordering another one. Everything else was pretty mediocre. VERY expensive overall. My fiancé says he'd rate the place 3.5 stars. This was our 2nd time at Cull house. Went once in late winter early spring. Wasn't great but thought we would try again. There wasn't many people there for lunch. I ordered fried shrimp and it was good. My husband ordered fish and chips. The piece of fish was literally 1.5 inches by 3 inches!! And super greasy! Not good. The service was nonexistent! There was maybe 2 other tables at most. No one came by to ask how our meal was and there was 2 wait staff there! Not going back. $60+a tip should've been a lot better lunch for 2 people! read more

As a local, I have been coming to The Cull House on & off for many years. Sometimes, the food and service is outstanding, other times it is mediocre at best. I can't give a higher rating because it's hit or miss. With that being said, my most recent visit was ranked a definite 5 out of 5. The food and service was spectacular! Located near the Sayville Ferries, there's a private lot for the restaurant as well as some street parking. The service is always unpredictable. During my last visit, our server was excellent. She continued to offer drink refills and was very friendly. At other visits, the service is slow and not very attentive. Maybe they have stepped it up, hopefully it's permanent. The prices are fair. For the area, the menu items are priced ok. This is certainly not a restaurant that is going to break the bank, but it may not be a cheap night out either. The food is always unpredictable as well. During my last visit, I was more than impressed. Over the years, I've tried a ton of menu items. I will be listing my favorites: Seafood Penne Alla Vodka, Steamers, New England Clam Chowder, Fish Tacos, Shrimp Tacos, Skirt Steak. I don't know what they did, but the cook should take lessons how to cook the service was very good but the food just sucked mostly all dishes send me and my friends had was not very good.
