It's all about the great view, cocktails and good music. I wouldn't say this is our go to place for a great meal but this time we were pleasantly surprised. Crab cakes were delicious without a ton of breading/filler, the chicken Marsala with garlic mashed was perfect for a chilly night on the beach, skirt steak was cooked perfectly and the vegan burger was tasty. Come for the atmosphere, sunsets over the bay or to watch the weekend warriors pour off the ferry onto the Island, but stay for a nice meal on the back deck - you may be as surprised as we were. read more

Food was really good! But our waitress could care less about us. We got there around 830 and they told us the kitchen closes at 10. By the time we got all our food etc is what 9:30. Still no big deal. We were finishing up and got the bill around 10. As we're figuring it out and still talking, they literally turned the lights off on us. The place was turning into a night time bar and we were in an eating section that they must have wanted to close. I was a bit hesitant to try this place out based on the mixed reviews but we decided to give it a try. We sat in the back patio which is nice since it's right by the water. Our server was very friendly and answered our numerous questions since my cousin is on a very restricted diet. We started out with the sweet potato fries, they were so good! I ordered the fish of the day with plantains. The fish was cooked in a nice marsala sauce and was very flavorful, the plantains were cooked perfectly and were delicious. The portions were very generous. We were stuffed but still ordered the dessert, which was some stuffed cannoli with ice cream that was sugary and delicious. I would definitely return to eat here again on my next visit. read more

It's fine? Hit this place for pizza and ice cream a few times. You might have as few as one worker handling pizza and ice cream so cut them some slack. They're here and they serve. That's all you can ask for. The pizza costs $30 a pie but if you're here are you really going to say no to that? The pizza isn't great but when it's hot, how can pizza be bad. Pies end up uneven with super thin dough in the middle and inch plus thick crusts. Like everywhere else, prices aren't marked so ask if you need to. My favorite hang out spot especially if you have a boat or a JetSki like me. Pull up to the dock and eat or drink at the bar. Watch your favorite game on tv while you get served your favorite drink. Service is fast when there are not too many people around. People and staff are very nice. I would definitely recommend. Food here is 5 star. read more

If I could level no stars I would.... I could find better pizza in a store freezer... The sauce just taste bad in the cheese it's not good mozzarella, the Dow is thick and at times it feels like it's uncooked... even though it looks that way zero stars, I know this is a hard review but maybe you need to change your pizza I've seen other reviews and they're not that pleasant sorry. Went here on a whim over the weekend knowing nothing about this place, but I'm so glad we came here! We went at 4:30 and did not know the dinner menu starts at 5:00. I originally looked at the menu online and saw they offered skirt steak - my favorite and asked if they could make it, which they happily did. It was DELICIOUS! One of the top skirt steaks I've ever had. My boyfriend had a burger and said it was amazing. Should we come back to Ocean Bay Park, we will definitely be eating here again! read more

We were so tired. No public restrooms at beach or ferry landing. Beach was waving and not for swimming. Staff was welcoming. They made a bad situation so much better. Thousand Thanks. Solid 3.5 stars. It's definitely a great place to people watch. You've got some typical bar fare and a few other seafood items. If you are ok with fried, the chicken fingers are solid (with honey mustard). Tuna tataki is a decent appetizer for two. You might not think to try the chicken platters (francaise or Schooner chicken) but they are some of the most solid "non-bar" food items on the menu. They have some amazingly fun activities and live music. All summer long, Monday- Friday at 8pm you can win a bicycle from their version of British bingo. You get a new card for every drink so you can up your chances. Earlier in the evenings you get raffle tickets for a chance to spin the ship's wheel and win some alcohol branded prizes. Wednesday nights are a kid's favorite. They have hermit crab races on the bay beach starting at 5:30. $5 will get you a crab to race and all kids get some little trinket even if they don't win. Extra bonus is that all kids that had crabs race can get $1 ice cream scoops - unheard of! Overall the staff is friendly with a laid back/beach vibe. They can accommodate large parties and also take reservations. Say hi to Lindsay at the bar for a smile & a strong drink or Kelsey on the floor - both some of our favorite servers. read more

Good mussels, clams, burgers and I've heard, pizza!

This was my first time going to Fire Island. I was beyond hungry when my friend and I arrived at FI. As we were biking around FI we asked what was a good place to eat and we heard that you have to go to Schooner's! So Schooner's we went..... I ordered the lobster special that came with corn on the cob, bake potato, mussels and clams for $34. My friend she ordered crab cake and a vegetable quesadilla. It was recommended that we had the Rocket Fuel for our drink. The food came out within a reasonable amount of time as it was midday, preseason and not a lot of people were present (PERFECT). The lobster was cooked perfectly, tasted good and had a good amount of meat inside. My friend at the mussels and clams as that's not my thing but was told it tasted good. The quesadilla was very tasty and cheesy! The crab cake was a nice portion size, which came with a side of chips and guacamole or plantains. We opted for the chips and guacamole, which was an all around winner! Finally, the Rocket Fuel was a great drink suggestion and didn't disappoint! It's like a pina colada with a very good kick to it. Finally, the view of the ocean from this establishment cannot go unmentioned, as it was so beautiful as we sat underneath the tiki cabana. This is definitely a must return place. I'll ensure to stop by again before the summer is out. read more

I went for dinner at the Schooner Inn this past Friday night. It was raining, but that didn't stop us from having a great time. It's a huge bar and restaurant, very typical Atlantic Ocean beachy nautical vibe that runs through the island. I grew up going to places like this, so it's a terrific atmosphere for me. I have a soft spot for baked clams, so I started with that. It was delicious and the clams were huge. For my main course, I went with the scallops, which were cooked just perfectly, and accompanied by garlic mash and some veggies. Our waiter was really nice, and as we finished up our meal, Bingo started, and he passed us some Bingo cards. The Bingo prize at the Schooner is always a free bike, and I actually ended up winning the bike! It was really awesome riding around the island the next day, and I had a great night at the Schooner Inn. read more

5 of us went in for a late lunch after a day on the beach. We first ordered drinks at the bar. My margarita was probably the worst I've ever had. For lunch we ordered baked clams and 5 sandwiches. Let me start by saying there's a $4 up charge for anything other than regular fries. When the waitress took our order she rattled them off like they were all the same. We ordered a lobster roll, lobster po boy, southwest turkey burger, and 2 mahi sandwiches. The po boy had some green goo slathered across the top of it. It was avocado something, but looked terrible. The 2 mahi sandwiches were TINY and beyond overcooked. The turkey burger was edible at best. One of the guys tried to show our waitress how ridiculously small his mahi was and her response was "ok". She walked away and said "WOW" very loud like she's never had a person complain about their terrible food. I guess when you have lots of people with limited food options, you can serve garbage with non existent customer service. Do better! read more

Schooners is somewhere between 3-4 stars. 3 stars for the food, but I'd round to 4 for the views and the fun factor. If you are in the Ocean Bay Park section of fire island, there aren't a lot of restaurant choices. In fact, I only saw 2 restaurants in total. Schooners is a divey, beach bar-type place but they have an outdoor section that is pretty nice. We were seated on the outdoor section, off to the side, where it is more private and you do not have tons of people crowded over you. They have a tiny private beach. The view is very nice and there is live music playing with a dance area. On Friday nights, they have bingo at 8pm and the prize is a bike. You get a bingo card for each drink that you buy , including non-alcoholic drinks. The entree portions, including the kid's meals, are pretty big. We started with wings and chargrilled oysters. Both were very good. For entrees, we ordered the penne vodka with shrimp and scallop. It was decent but sauce was a little too sweet and greasy for me but decent enough that I'd order this again. Other orders were scallops with side vegetables (ok but a bit bland without any sauce or seasoning), kid's penne pasta with marinara sauce (sauce was watery), burger (ordered medium but came overcooked and gray-ish looking). There is also a 1.25 lb lobster steamer pot ($35) that we didn't order but sounded good. We had a good time but i wouldn't come here just for the food. read more

Had dinner here with my family and it was the worst meal I've had in a long time. Let me start off by saying that the beach atmosphere is very nice and I would go back for drinks but would never order dinner. The crabmeat stuffed filet looked like two crispy mini hot dogs on a plate next to some lumpy mash potatoes and sliced carrots and zucchini that looked like institutional food. The fish was inedible. My daughter had the crab cakes which were an interesting shade of gray but had no taste. It was all really bad. So bad that I was embarrassed for them. read more

Favorite bar on the island. The drinks are great, the food is great, and the service is excellent. We've been to a lot of bars in many towns on the island and have experienced many good ones but this place is our favorite. The live music has been good the last three times we've been here. Two things that keep drawing us back are the good pours at the bar and tables, and the excellent salads. My favorite salad was the Summer Salad with red grapes, melon, pecans and pumpkin vinaigrette. The crowds seem to vary at different times and days but any of them were not unreasonable to be around. I think that you cannot really classify crowd types at any bar in a tourist location because it will always vary. What I can comment on is the excellent customer service, though; they were not in your face and they were never absent. This goes for the bars and the servers. read more
