To be honest - I was a bit disappointed in this place near the water . Lunch came to $72 - for an Arnold Palmer cocktail , a local beer , 6 oysters , a scallop basket (no sides included ) and an order of Cajun fries . I know we are in NY , but that seems pretty steep , especially since the scallops were actually bay scallops (very small in size ) and didn't have any flavor . I will say my cocktail was tasty and the staff was nice and cordial (I got a compliment on my Buffalo Bills tee) . My sister also liked her oysters (I am not an oyster fan ) .I don't know if I would go there again though , as it didn't impress me too much. read more

This is the second time I've eaten here. The food is awesome! Last time I had the fried oysters--cooked to perfection, soft and buttery with a crisp exterior. From the food to the service, this is by far one of the best seafood restaurants in bay shore and by far the best of any by the ferry docks! As a big foodie I'm always looking for top notch seafood, and for such a small restaurant, they have always put out the best quality. Baked clams are to die for, calamari is always a banger, and the fresh oysters and clams are always delicious. They have great cocktails as well. Start with you have to pay to park. Asked for a drink they didn't have the mix.The quality of food was terrible cold had to send back food to be warmed up. Asked for salt and pepper they brought it over in a dish. It was served in a dish. was never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. The service was not bad they were trying. I was a little bit confused when I parked. I wasn't sure where the "sit down" part was so I ended up ordering from the takeout/walkup window. I had to get a lobster roll before the end of the summer! I had heard a lot of things about Nicky's Clam Bar on Facebook, and I work right down the road...I knew I had to stop in. The lobster roll was delicious. It wasn't swimming in butter and the roll wasn't soggy. A very generous portion of lobster too! It was served with fries and there was a crisp pickle hiding under all of those fries. Would go again - I ordered the seafood bisque soup and lobster roll, which comes with fries. The soup has tons of seafood in it. The visual is quite alarming as it is very pink. However, that seems to be due to the heavy pieces of seafood in the soup so it is acceptable. Although the soup is too salty for me which is usually the case for a bisque, the many pieces of seafood swimming through the creamy soup is tasty for a bisque. It tastes more homemade than a chef serving it which is expected given the casual nature of Nicky's Clam Bar. The warm lobster roll was typical and nothing different than normal lobster rolls. The lobster itself was the perfect amount of salty and tender with the juiciness from the butter. However, I expect a good lobster roll to be different and unique than just good lobster on a roll. The bread was fluffy and good. Not just a wonderbread like how many serve lobster rolls. I recommend adding some interesting and unique toppings and sauce to differentiate from just a normal lobster roll. read more

We got an order of the steamed littleneck clams, but they were tough, broth was WAY too salty, and not much flavor other than salt. Impromptu dinner tonight at Nick's Clam Bar in Bayshore! We were going for Mexican and when I told my husband that Nick's was open, he turned the car around!! Sooooo good! Their Seafood bisque is full of pieces of lobster and crab, and we shared steamers! Best steamers I ever had! Plump and sweet! With an iced mug of beer, I was in heaven! Their homemade pies are fabulous too! We shared cherry with a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Amazing! It felt like summer is around the corner! What can I say? We're suckers for good seafood with an even better waterfront view. So on this beautiful April evening Wifey and I set out in search of exactly that. Unfortunately being early April on a Tuesday many spots on the water weren't open just yet, and so we settled for being in proximity here at Nicky's. Located across the parking lot from the fire island ferry, Nicky's doesn't offer the direct waterfront views of its neighbors down the block, but the seafood offerings are plentiful, fresh & super tasty. Started with their seafood bisque which was spectacular, lots of lobster & crab inside this thick & hearty soup. Added a little black pepper to give it a small kick and it was truly over the top. Moved on to the scallops casino for my dinner - six huge sea scallops in an outstanding oreganata style sauce topped with deliciously crispy bacon and a very tasty bread crumb mixture. Wifey thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp parm dinner which I had the chance to sample as well and it was really great. There were a lot more dishes I'm looking forward to trying, particularly their fried offerings as we enter the summertime. Can't wait to come back and enjoy another great meal here with these super friendly folks. read more

Nicky's is located right next to the Fire Island ferry, making it a great option for some eats and drinks if you've got time to kill. A bit pricey, but to be expected given their location. We were a little surprised to see that wraps were $16.00 and cocktails were $15.00. But anyways... our group really enjoyed everything that we ordered! There are alot of seafood options on the menu like oysters, clams, lobster rolls and crab cakes. But if you are picky like me and really enjoy basic things like chicken fingers and french fries then you can order CHICKEN FRIES! I haven't seen these on a menu like ever and was really excited. The order comes with an absolutely massive amount of chicken fries, so I'd definitely suggest sharing. The fries also come with marinara dipping sauce. Seems weird at first but it works super well. Pro-tip is to also ask for honey mustard. The honey mustard (as always) changed the game. I snuck a bite of the lobster roll and the lobster was very fresh and tasty. There is also a very generous portion of lobster. Another pro-tip is that you can order a to-go drink to enjoy on the thirty minute ferry ride out to Fire Island. The strawberry coconut mojito was refreshing and delicious. Next time I find myself at the Fire Island ferry with some time to kill I'll absolutely hit up Nicky's. I can almost guarantee that this will also be the next time that I enjoy an enormous platter of chicken fries. read more

This is my third time here and chef keeps getting better. I got the Manhattan clam chowder for my first course, it had plenty of clams and very flavorful. For the main course I ordered the oysters platter, they were breaded lightly and cooked perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. Wifey ordered the bay scallop platter they were also cook to the T flavorful tender and sweet. And our two waitresses made sure we understood the menu and specials and made sure are drinks stayed full an we were happy with our meal. I will definitely be going back. read more

I hate to leave a 1 star review for a small business but unfortunately I think this is necessary. I called in an order about an hour ago for 2 items- the warm lobster roll and fried calamari. I was not given a total when I placed the order so I was shocked to hear it was $74.25 with tax and tip- the price for the lobster roll wasn't included on their menu. When my partner picked up the order he was given no instruction to hold the bag on it's side so the food wouldn't fall out. As you can imagine, the bag was a mess when we got home. The lobster roll was decent, but I've had better for a fraction of the price. The real problem was with the calamari that could have been mistaken for 2 day-old cold leftovers, which you can tell from the image. To make this experience worse, the two women I spoke with on the phone were quick to blame me for the bag being right side up and for the temperature of the food. We picked up our order promptly (even though they didn't give us an estimated time for pickup) and yet the manager tried to tell me we waited too long to pick up the order. When I initially asked for a manager I was met with "how long is this gonna be 'cause we're busy". When I said our food spilled because THEY failed to let us know it was on its side, I was told that's "not the chef's fault" before even letting me finish explaining. The manager was immediately combative and completely unhelpful. I've worked in the service industry for 7 years and would never talk to a polite customer the way she did. I politely asked for a refund for the soggy calamari but I was only offered a 15% discount on my next order. If they could've at least been nice on the phone I would have never taken this issue to yelp, but they left me no choice. Very dissatisfied with both the customer service and food that ended up in the garbage. read more

Although I only got a bagel with cream cheese this time, it's always been great service and food - not gourmet but still pretty good. Lots of breakfast choices which is much appreciated. Been here many times and this visit was the worst by far. We were served a RAW hamburger which was taken back and supposedly cooked more but was still undesirable and put back on the same plate. $4.50 for 15 french fries is ridiculous and $7.75 for a plate of sauteed spinach unreally priced. Also, my all time favorite shrimp barge was 4 fishy shrimp! Unfortunately they have a captive audience who doesn't know any better but we will definitely NOT be back! If you've ever been to Fire Island, you probably took the ferry. And if you aren't one of those freaks that owns a car, you probably take the LIRR to/from Bay Shore to get back to civilization. Since the ferry schedule NEVER, EVER lines up with the LIRR schedule, you can choose to wait at the train station, or you can eat things at Nicky's, situated directly across from the ferry. I'm a fat boy, so I chose to eat things. First off, I love that Nicky's has a few local brews on tap. South Bay's Blonde Ambition is solid, and I'm a fan of Fire Island's signature Lighthouse Ale as well. Secondly, I will never go to a clam bar and not get baked clams. These turned out to be pretty mushy, but at least the flavor was there. A little lemon, a little hot sauce, I was happy. Beyond beer and baked clams though, I was stumped. The menu is huge, and I didn't know what else to get. I asked the surly bartender what was good, and she directed me toward the flounder wrap, which for some strange reason comes with American cheese. I like cheese on almost all things, but I tend to balk at American on seafood. So I asked them to hold the cheese. It came with the cheese. I would've missed my train if I sent it back, so I just ate the thing. And I want to go on record as standing by my original belief that American cheese has no place on seafood. read more

So this restaurant is located right outside the ferry, so I can imagine in the summer time how busy it gets. It has both table seating and takeout - definitely smart for the summer! You walk in and you can either be seated at a table or at the bar. The menu had a lot of options on it. I couldn't even decide. I was suggested the Sea Bass, there's options of sides you can choose and I went with the mashed cauliflower - delicious and such a big portion that I couldn't even finish it, I also had the fried calamari as an appetizer which was INCREDIBLE. They do provide bread for you as you wait. I also tried some Chicken Parmesan, which again - incredible. I don't know how I had room for desert but somehow I made it through. I was told they make the best cheesecake I'd ever try - wasn't holding my breath on that. So they had a Strawberry and Banana Cheesecake. I took my first bite and almost fell off my chair...... seriously. Their cheesecake is 100x better than The Cheesecake Factory - hands down. I had Joey's Rum Punch - which was really good! I've been going to Nicky's clam bar for at least 30 years now. You must start your journey on the ferry to Fire Island with a homemade cinnamon sugared donut. This review is for the CLAM BAR, since that is the heading under which this restaurant operates. This place looks like a sunny, friendly, potentially touristy (hence mediocre) diner, but is totally hardcore; they open every day at 6 a.m. and immediately start serving whatever is printed on their menus...including fresh RAW hard-shelled clams on the half shell! Cleverly located right across from the ferry port in Bay Shore Long Island, this place has an express window, proper seating, and chairs along a long, wooden bar. Though I had only 20 minutes until my ferry to Fire Island, I took a seat at the bar to avoid the to-go line and got a nice young waitress to serve me stat. In her effort to be enthusiastic, she accidentally chucked a laminated menu at me across the bar, then later, slid a plate with a dozen clams on ice so fast and hard that one of the big ones leapt off the plate (but, luckily enough for us all, stayed upright and edible). For $17-something after tips and tax (believe it or not, well worth it), I got four little briny cherrystones, four candy-colored littlenecks, and four sumptuous top necks. They were fresh, delicious, and cold as the sea, and left behind a comforting aftertaste that evoked clam chowder and a cold cup of cream. So no, it wasn't too early in the morning for raw clams. Clams are the new oysters, people!! Being a savorer of food, I deeply regretted bolting the sweet morsels down so disgracefully and even offloading a couple onto my scavenger friends before making a mad dash for the ferry. They sell t-shirts here that have the ferry schedule printed upside-down on the stomach (so you can look down at your belly and read it).
