*** CASH ONLY *** Normally I would go to this mom-and-pop Asian salon for an inexpensive haircut, but this time I decided to give this barbershop a try because most places are closed on the Labor Day. The Cutlery accepts walk-in and a haircut is $20 plus tip (or $30 with appointment). I got here at 5:45 PM and I didn't have to wait at all. My barber was very friendly and asked what style do I want. The setting was very relaxing (with a TV to keep you busy) and we had a good small talk about sports. My barber wasn't rushing (I will admit that it could be an issue when you are in a hurry and there are few other customers waiting ahead of you) and meticulously trimmed edges using warm shaving cream and razor at the end. After my haircut, not only did I feel like a new man - I actually smelled good after I walked out of the shop! I like the cut I got and it was well worth $20. Recently moved into the area. Hard to find a good barber for my 5 yr old. First time I took my boy, it was packed but they had like 6 chairs working. We're usually down to wait and save the extra $10 for appointments. First time, we got lucky I guess cuz Henry whipped my son's hair up something proper! With younger kids, its hard to find barbers that can do smooth blended low fades on their small heads. Then half the time, when you find someone who's fades are slick, they might not know what to do with the top for like a "gentlemen's cut". They end up clipping everything on the sides w a comb and end up with the Navy/Cop look lol. Second time wasn't quite as good. Henry couldn't take my son and the rest of the guys were booked til closing w appointments. So I knew I couldn't really complain, being that (1.) Another homie reluctantly said he'd stay and hook it up for my little dude and (2.) My son had school pics the following morning so even a rush job was better than nothing. It wasn't a hack job, just kinda rushed and went up higher in the back than I asked. So he ended up with that military look rather than the more current "gentlemen's cut" steeze. When i first step in, i was immediately greeted by a shock of nostalgia; that barber shop that everyone hangs out with, bunch of people talking about day to day events, watching sports, cheering for their favorite team and best of all talking about complete random topic that anyone can relate to. First time going to this barbershop I got my haircut by Pete not sure if he is new. I clearly told him to re-shave hard part and it's visible because of my last haircut the next morning when I woke up to comb my hair i noticed he did another hard part underneath the original one. He knew what he did when he combed my hair he made sure to cover up his mistake as I noticed he was just focusing in that area of my head for a bit but I thought he was just concentrating. When i would show up the barber would be eating or on his phone while i waited. During my cuts he would be on his phone looking at random videos and stop completely. Came here today since my usual barber was packed without any appointments. Luckily to my surprise, I'm a total fan! This place is located in Rosemead-- across the street from the (old) Fresh & Easy, like literally next to the gas station. Parking can be done on the streets-- or "illegally" in the Rite Aid lot. However, don't park near that asian clothing store-- I saw a sign on a car today that said "Next Time Park here, Tow away!" (Lol) Literally. Anyways, upon arrival-- this place was pretty hip, simple, and dope. It gave me this hip hop vibe from the infamous show on VH1 - Black Ink Crew. All the barbers seemed pretty chill with their attire, piercings, and hashtag swag. I ended up with the guy with two piercings near the lip -- didn't really get his name (and there was no wait). I told him what I wanted -- and like a good barber, he did exactly what I asked for! Although there were a few twirls on the barbershop chair during my haircut, it was worth it. I never got the idea of tapers/fades (which I still have no idea about)-- but they definitely do a good job on hair cuts (especially on the sides). Although the top of my head wasn't the best-- the sides were definitely the best that I have ever encountered (not sure if that made any sense at all). For the price (~$20), it was worth it. The barbers seem to definitely pay attention to deal and even add in some cool yet warm shaving cream to your haircut. I don't know what was it exactly-- but it definitely felt good. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here. I would definitely come back since it is so close to my house. I must admit, I was pretty intimidated when I first came here-- but I'm glad I did because my barber was pretty nice and they have decent music playing too. ASK FOR PETER Came here couple weeks ago walking in, first time I was in for a last minute haircut because I was heading to a trip to Vegas. One of the barbers told me that it's appointments only and I was bumbed out. Until Peter came up to me and told me he can squeeze me if I come back an hour. Came back, and let me tell Peter is the best barber. I haven't had this special barber experience before, the fade is really clean, detailed, and nicely tight. I would definitely come back again soon, usually a lot of barbers doesn't know my hair style or how to work in my hair but After explaining Peter hair my hairstyle is and he got it on point. I haven't been to a barber in many years since I decided to go bald. But once I decided to grow my hair out I need to find a good place that would do a good job. I found this place not too far from my work, They stay open fairly late. I get there and all the chairs are occupied and these guys are taking their time making sure that every here, every follicle is cared for. So I get Tommy, who knew exactly how to cut my hair and beard after Showing him a picture of what I want. He took his time, I don't know how many different blades he switched after each run. But he was professional, methodical, obsessive about making sure everything was cut properly. I enjoyed my time being there, I think Tommy did a fantastic job and really gave me what I wanted. But if you do come, remember too set up an appointment first. I sat here for an hour with one of the barbers reminding me that I will be next. I wasn't. I came in as I had found this spot was highly rated on yelp. There was a decent amount of people waiting in line so I figured that these barbers were skilled. They were taking quite some time with each customer which showed that they really wanted the best look for their customers. The line starts dwindling then some guy sits next to me to wait for his haircut as well. He chats it up with some of the barbers and I start getting this hunch that while I've been wait for 40 minutes this guy is going to be picked before me. And I was right. I come to cutlery whenever I need a good cut. This time is was for my wedding because I know they'll get me looking sharp. If I trust them to cut my hair for my wedding you gotta know they are good. I've gotten cut here a couple times before and I usually just walk in. The wait can be looking at times without an appointment but if you are getting cut for a special occasion or can afford the appointment then I would just make an appointment. My hair is almost bald so in usually just buzz it at home if it's nothing special. I booked an appointment with Henry to get my sides tapered and lined up. Called a bit before their posted time, the guy on the end of the other phone said come on by, so I did. I've been looking for barber shop closer to home and decided to do the unthinkable and step out on a limb and go to a new place..without a referral. My first impression was good. The shop is small, only 4 chairs, barber chairs, but anyway it is nicely done up. Each giant mirror behind each chair dawns that barbers Instagram, so you can take a second to see what's really good if you want. The staff was welcoming and seemed legit. David cut my hair and I have to say it was beyond my expectation, I'm picky (who isn't) and my hair is kind of hard to cut. The price was fair, $ 25 for my head and beard. I've been living in the San Gabriel area for about 6 months now. Haven't really ventured out but I needed a haircut bad. Walked in and there was three barbers cutting hair. I got there around 12:30 and walked out at 2:15. Marcus did a great job on the mid bald fade I asked for. t. One thing I will say is that I noticed one of the barbers stopping to checking his phone quite often. To me that's just a little unprofessional, especially since all the clients having been waiting a while to get cut. We don't want to keep waiting once we're mid cut.
