Everytime I get a haircut the guy with the tattoo always put some wax product on my hair that can't be washed off with shampoo. It smells like really bad wax and it's stuck on my hair for the entire week even washing it everyday. So frustrating. This place seems to have reopened after their closure and loss of all their staff. I didn't notice what it was until I got home, but my barber didn't trim my hair down evenly on the top. In fact, he only trimmed the right side of the top, not the left. Omg! I am so glad I found this place and here are the reasons why: 1. Haircuts are super affordable... right now it's $15 for men's haircuts but after summer, it's $20. 2. And even though it's cheap, they do a really good job. 3. The place is clean and well ventilated and air conditioned. It feels nice getting a haircut in a cool temperature. I still like this Vietnamese hair salon in Rosemead, but not as much as it used to be. (1) Men's haircut used to be $10, but it is now $20 (as of Nov 2022). (2) I am fine with calling to set up an appointment, but I definitely agree with one of Yelpers below on how they don't always pick up calls. I actually visited two other random hair salons out of three times in the past 6 months because of Dat DG Hair Salon's inability to pick up my multiple calls for appointments. Please feel free to walk in and ask for haircut on the spot, but either (1) you will have to schedule an appointment on later hours or (2) you can get a haircut immediately if they have open spots available. It's a crapshoot if you try to call & make an appointment. (3) Men's haircut still includes complimentary hair wash and styling with gel, but I wasn't completely satisfied with my recent hairstyle done by one of their many barbers. I've been going to Dat DG for years and I decided it was time to write a review. There are really only 4 barbers, but I mainly get my hair cut from Rony (the owner). I like how he knows how to cut Asian male hair specifically and the styles around them. I usually get a "0" fade on the side and a slight comb over parted slightly to the back. I believe he is the most experience and came from a previous barber shop before he decided to open up his own business in Dat DG. I haven't got cut much from the other barbers, but the two other guys seem to cut pretty similarly too, which is good. At the time of this writing, the only women barber seems to be relatively new. She seems to do more than men's haircuts since I've seen her do bleach or perms on different occasions before, but I had my hair cut from her once when Rony was busy and she got my preferences pretty spot on as well (even though I don't think my haircut is that difficult). What I like about Dat DG specifically over other places I've been to is that they include a free hair wash with shampoo with every haircut (usually done right after cutting your sides and before trimming the top hairs). Really helps get a clean cut as well as get a lot of the small hairs that are left on your head post cut. BOOKING: highly recommend calling in before coming to reserve an appointment. Ive always done this and have been able to get same day appointments with ease. You can call in for future appointments too. I usually come on random weekday mornings, but they seem to get a consistent flow of people no matter what day it is. As note, Fridays and weekends are the busiest. They usually open at 9:30 am M-Sat, and then 10:00 am Sun. PAYMENT: they raised their prices starting 2022 from $15 to $20. I believe they prefer cash, but they now accept Zelle which if you're anything like me is actually a game changer because I seem to never actually have cash on me (the only use for my red envelope money). Make sure to add some extra for tip. PARKING: the store front is located on a pretty busy steet, but there is a little shared back parking lot. I've personally never had trouble finding parking, but I would imagine on a busy day the lot fills up fast. There is always side street parking too. You can enter through the back entrance. This place is just okay. Bae and I needed haircuts before CNY and my brother suggested so we called and got appointments. I believe they specialize in mens cuts but the lady there said she's do my hair no problem since I just wanted a trim. She fob hair'd me. I walked out feeling like I entered 2008 with the side swept emo layers. This wasn't just a tiny trim like I asked for. She gave me a hairstyle that most definitely didn't match my fine hair. When we made the appointment for bae, we made sure to ask for who my brother suggested. When we checked in, he told us we'd be next. Well.. 5min after we arrived one of his regulars walked in and he pushed bae to the lady that cut my hair and took his regular. I thought she'd be way better with his hair since this spot specialized in men's cuts. He came out with the squarest head ever! I couldn't stop laughing. We've been here a couple times now for my partner and I always go with him because he needs help with directing of how the cut should be. They were a little behind. Got there for a 2pm appointment and got seated at 2:20pm, but there was seating and the staff was extremely friendly. Place seems popular for male haircuts (haven't seen a woman come in for a cut yet). Price used to be $15 for a short haircut but it's been increased to $20 now. Hair wash and was styling is included for male cutes. Even put gel in to make sure it was styled how he liked. Came for a haircut after seeing all the good reviews. Asked for a comb over and showed a photo of myself with the hair I want. Asked to keep the length on the top long with a trim to the uneven parts as I usually like to use clay to slick back the hair. It is also easier to manipulate my thick hair when it is a bit longer. But I think I ended up with a partial bowl cut? Too much hair was cut off and the cuts were done with a straight scissor instead of a hair thinning scissor to blend in the edges. Terrible technique. Fade is decent though. Would not come back. Paid $25 before tips. read more

Prior to her, I was going to Hair Matters and deep down inside I disliked my haircut and the inconsistencies. I did not feel great. We are paying for this service in addition tipping afterwards. I would like to believe that after several cuts and always tipping generously, Ronnie would start to learn what I want and do not want to happen. I attempted to make an appointment for today but was unsuccessful because no one answered my phone calls for the past few days or responded to my text message. I thought to myself, maybe they were closed and or on vacation. I went in today only to find out that the shop was indeed open and Ronnie was there. I gave Ronnie my trust only to be disappointed by his lack of respect... 1. Refusing to pick up my call or respond my text for appointment 2. Blocking my number 3. When asked if he was still cutting hair - Ronnie stated my hair is too difficult since I ask him to fix certain areas so he did not "schedule" me. Don't waste your time and money as well as give your trust to a barber who only cares about: 1. Finishing the work fast (within 30 mins or less including a wash) 2. What he thinks is good over what you actually want 3. His finished work should be final, without touch-ups *His phone number is the main line to the shop. Been coming here pretty consistently for the past few years, and I've always gotten good fades. My normal barber is Win, who pays attention to a lot of detail. I like my fade a little more rounded out and keeping with the curvature of my head, while here they like to have a steeper fade. However after I told Win this, he remembers to round it out every time afterwards. The other barbers are usually good too, but some are better than others. Cuts used to be $12, but prices quickly increased to $15 the past few years, and now in 2022 it is $20. Still, this is one of the cheapest cuts you will get of this quality, and I will say their haircuts are of better quality than most in San Diego, and most haircuts in SD are $40. Not to mention they wash your hair during your haircut, which most places don't. The one thing about this place though, is that none of the barbers will talk to you, you will be sitting there looking in the mirror in silence for 40 minutes, so get used to it. Might be perfect for some of you Ron Swanson type introverts out there who hate talking, or it might be a living nightmare for some of you other extroverts. Make sure to make an appointment because the wait as a walk in can get long and you tend to get a barber who is newer/less experienced. read more

Read all the good reviews and wanted to try as the Mrs tells me I spend too much to cut my hair. I called a Saturday morning asking if I could come in. A man andwered saying to come at 2 (my guess is mornings busy) I arrived at 2 but came into 4 others being serviced. No one spoke to me but I just waited. It wss only about a 10 min wait until one finished and Lin/Lyn said she would help me. I told her what I wanted and the issues with the two cowlicks I usually have when getting my hair cut. She took a quick look at the photo and got to work. She seemed to really know what to do and didnt just go in with a 1 or 2 around the lower back like others Ive experienced. What I liked was that even when she almost seemed done, she checked the back again and seemed to redo it.
