Super disappointed !! we came here to shoot some pool have some drinks & gamble and the dude bartender is so rude. Brandon and Ignored that I was standing at the bar for literally 10 minutes. He was helping everybody else and then there was nobody he didn't walk down to me and help me. He waited for the next people to come in the door really really really rude. I just wanna say !! Dive bars are a favorite haunt of mine for decades. They've been a source of finding a hidden jewel and a fun place to go. This was unfortunately a mixed bag. Hidden in a pretty sketchy neighborhood, this place has been there for a long time. The building is a good size and can accommodate a large crowd on a game day with two pool tables and lots of seating. Dive bar wear and tear, you'll have to hold your breath when you go to the bathroom. The food was good and filling. Service was only one person, and in general she did her best. Unfortunately, on my second Bloody Mary she got lazy, reused my glass and didn't give me a garnish. That's a technical fail in my opinion. I don't care what's going on. Good old local bar that I've been going to for years now. My mom and all my parent's friends talk about going to this place forever over the years. It was when I was little I guess. Also, it was called Tippers back then. I always hear all the old schoolers talking about it. I think it was live music and lots of dancing back in those days. These days it's pool, good food, locals and video poker. You have to know your audience and I feel they've catered to what the neighborhood is after like it or not. But I think that's why they've been around this long and why they'll stick around for years to come. read more

Stopped in mid morning for a meal. Found it to be a comfortable, welcoming local hangout with pretty good food. We ordered the classic breakfast (2 eggs, 4 bacon, hash browns, toast) and a bacon cheeseburger. Both dishes were quite good. The fries were fresh, the burger juicy, and the breakfast was cooked exactly as I ordered it. The Bloody Mary was spicy but not overly so. Table service was friendly and efficient. I actually really like this place! Yes, it's divey, barsy, and sits in a rather "sketchy" area but the food is plentiful, very tasty, and the taste buds are very appreciative when I come here for breakfast. I recommend the 1/2 Planet Cure. Sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, pork sausage, with 2 eggs, topped with sausage gravy (or salsa & cheese, if prefer a different option). More than enough food with a little bit of everything you could want in a breakfast. I personally get a biscuit on the side with the meal! Some of the downside, I have tried a couple of their burgers and they are decent but I tend to think they are little on the dry side (at least the times that I've ordered them). Perhaps the cook is smashing most of the juices out in order to get the burger to cook quicker. Still has some flavor, just a little dry and will have to rely on some of the condiments to get it down the pipe easier. Also, not a big fan of fresh cut fries. They are greasy, never crunchy, and get cold FAST. So, if that's not your thing, try their tots, onion rings, or a side salad (if you prefer the healthier option) instead. The service can be a little displaced. Sometimes it's on the spot and others you can be waiting a minute...or two...or five. It just depends on who's working and how efficient they are. Seems like the server is the "all-in-one" in bar-tending, taking orders, and cleaning at the same time. The only other person there is the cook. It can be a little frustrating at times, especially, if you're "hangry". The Daily Planet primarily serves up a solid breakfast at a very affordable rate and definitely worth a try, in my opinion, if nearby. read more

Tried them out today. Food was fine. My order was wrong. But manageable. The main issue is I have been here for almost two hours with a long wait to order and over a 30 minute wait for my check. I used to love this place when their waitresses were good. Today I had an unacceptable experience here. I sent my eggs and hash browns back because they were served cold. Instead of re heating or remaking my food, they simply served it on a warm plate and pretended it was hot. Now I'm hot!!!! This is our favorite local dive bar. It's such an enjoyable space that we've converted our friends who live in the west hills to regulars and they frequently make the trek out. Multiple pool tables, gambling machines, plus affordable drinks. It's nothing pretentious and truthfully, it's a breath of fresh air to get good food outside of the "Portland Food Scene". The bartender/server was just plain rude and did not seem to like her job. She seems to be annoyed that we asked for water alongside our beers, she didn't offer any menus we had to walk over & get them ourselves. She hardly checked up on us during our visit. She also disappeared outside for a good 10 mins, probably a smoke break. Although we left a 20 % tip, I did not agree with it, I would of left her little to none if it was up to only me. Food was tasteful and was quick. While I was using the ketchup another customer asked for Ketchup and the bartender/server pretty much snatched it from my space, closest to me. Very rude bartender on a Friday happy hour. Never have I ever felt so dang belittled by a bar staff to the point where I felt so inferior by my prensence. 1st, I waved the bartender because I was clearly ignored, then her response was "stop being rude and wait like the other customers." I had to wave a second time and she said "you still need to wait....." I didn't know getting the bartender's attention when the bar was NOT busy was considered rude. 2nd, when asking to sample an IPA, I get an eye roll and her saying, "you're going to have to wait until the SMALL glasses are clean" yes she emphasized the small glasses by yelling at me that the small glasses were not clean. 5 WHOLE minutes later she then gets small glasses that were ALREADY clean from the rack and provides me the sample. I felt this was a petty action for making her work? 3rd. Asked if I could have my nachos order with toppings on the side. She literally said to me, "the cooks in the back are going to LOVE your order......." Trying to make me feel bad about an order. She Made a HUGE deal about it by sighing and eye rolling, THEN telling the cooks in the back, "this customer wants a complicated nachos by having toppings on the side and chips naked." The cooks shrugged their shoulders and said " meh no problem" Never have I ever had a bartender tell me that this order was complicated. I ALWAYS order my nachos with toppings on the side and never have I ever felt so belittled. This bartender is not wanting to work and made my experience here so bad as a community member of southeast Portland. I will continually talk down about daily planet as this establishment made me feel like a inferior member of the community I live in, and I have lived here for more than 30 years. Daily planet, please reconsider the bartender that was working on Friday March 1st 2024 because they made me feel like a non member of my community in southeast Portland. Please expect a formal letter of complaint to the better business bureau for the way I was treated as a consumer in the community I am a part of. I will never promote this business to my colleagues who work in an establishment next to this bar. I have never felt so belittled in my life as a consumer, and I will ensure the BBB understands through a formal letter how this bartender has made me feel on March 1st, 2024. The best bartender works there, Heather. She is the best because she has put up with my shit for over 3 years now. Yes, this is my neighborhood Cheers. It really is exactly that too. You have the regulars, ponderers, gamblers and yes the tweekerz. It actually is a pretty decent family atmosphere. Kids are aloud until 9pm. Have ordered breakfast from them before. Their planet omelet is delicious. But today decided to also have lunch with them. We ordered fish and chips with clam chowder to go. When we got home the fish were small and greasy. The chowder appeared to be out of a can (certainly not fresh). We took the food back and we were told that it is cooked in a fryer and that it doesn't look greasy. They did nothing to rectify the situation. read more

About as good as youd expect any dive bar to be. Drinks are inconsistent according to which bartender is working. I personally dont like the way the younger gentlemen makes bloody Mary's. Everything is kind of dated. They do have an awesome welcoming vibe though, and decent prices on pool games. Everything seems like its different depending on whos working and what time of day it is. Not anything to write home about honestly. The older lady who bartends is awesome. She does a really great job. Food is decently priced for what it is. Pinball machine is fun, but it needs a bit of grease because it kept getting stuck. Stay away from the video lottery because it seems like the sketchy people all hang out over there. read more

All the signs for advertisement (including the one on the venue window) states BREAKFAST ALL DAY. We were so craving pancakes. I called to make a to go order but the phone just rang, so i actually went in to order and planned to wait for my food. Once i was finally approached by the bar tender (i sat at the bar for several minutes) i was told that the cook didn't want to make pancakes because they would take up too much space on the grill! After i begrudgingly changed my order, i was again told that the cook was not making ANY breakfast. Worst customer service ever. So disappointed. read more

This is probably my favorite neighborhood restaurant and watering hole. Kids are allowed here until 9pm. The food is always super delicious, the cook has been working here for something like 20 years and Laurie the bartender is always pleasant and happy to help. The nights this guy works, save yourself from disappointment and go somewhere else. He's slow, never even acknowledges you standing there waiting, only when he serves you. If you have a vagina you'll probably be just fine, as I'm sure it's the only reason he comes to work at all. He has no problem making you wait 5 minutes while he socializes with the female bar flys.
