This is the BEST breakfast place in the area of 122nd between stark and foster this is the best place to go eat. It's a BAR so NO KIDDOS. But to those 21+ this is the best bar in the area for food and I've tried them all. The service is great! And great environment lots people enjoying food or gambling and minding their own business no crackheads and a friendly bartender who constantly checks on you

If ever find yourself southeast inner Portland Oregon neighborhood, make sure stop by hidden gem where fantastic customer service meets excellent interior design sense. From the moment, I walked through the door and knew would return sometime soon: dimly lit room filled, comfortable chairs, gave off cozy vibe, and perfect spot kickback after a rough day at the office. Friendly staff are always ready to lend a helping hand , refill drink orders, and answer questions about menu selection.

Was told they have been around for 50 years, but are reopening under new owners.

Apparently there is a new owner of the restaurant and they are doing a great job! The service and scratch made food was awesome. The prices are shockingly reasonable (like old school Portland). FYI minors are not allowed.

I actually really like this place! Yes, it's divey, barsy, and sits in a rather "sketchy" area but the food is plentiful, very tasty, and the taste buds are very appreciative when I come here for breakfast. I recommend the 1/2 Planet Cure. Sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, pork sausage, with 2 eggs, topped with sausage gravy (or salsa & cheese, if prefer a different option). More than enough food with a little bit of everything you could want in a breakfast. I personally get a biscuit on the side with the meal! Some of the downside, I have tried a couple of their burgers and they are decent but I tend to think they are little on the dry side (at least the times that I've ordered them). Perhaps the cook is smashing most of the juices out in order to get the burger to cook quicker. Still has some flavor, just a little dry and will have to rely on some of the condiments to get it down the pipe easier. Also, not a big fan of fresh cut fries. They are greasy, never crunchy, and get cold FAST. So, if that's not your thing, try their tots, onion rings, or a side salad (if you prefer the healthier option) instead. The service can be a little displaced. Sometimes it's on the spot and others you can be waiting a minute...or two...or five. It just depends on who's working and how efficient they are. Seems like the server is the "all-in-one" in bar-tending, taking orders, and cleaning at the same time. The only other person there is the cook. It can be a little frustrating at times, especially, if you're "hangry". The Daily Planet primarily serves up a solid breakfast at a very affordable rate and definitely worth a try, in my opinion, if nearby.

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

But the last few times I've stopped in for a meal, it feels like the food isn't quite as impressive as it used to be. Could be all in my head. Not sure. But it's always a nice spot to hang out and chat with friends, you can get seated quicker if you enter through Over & Out, which basically functions as an extension of the main Observatory, with it's own bar and pool tables.
