Cobb salad with bacon, egg, turkey, Bleu cheese, avocado and greens.
Anita R.

Don't let the outside fool you. What a huge, fresh, tasty lunch was whipped up today. My husband had a chicken gyro with side salad and half pickle while I ordered this Cobb salad. It was almost 3, their closing time, yet no one rushed us. Bottom line- As regular visitors to Portland we recommend Toms restaurant for lunch. Not the Petit Provence, a touristy place. Toms beats others way out. Try a salad!

Onion rings, tasted great

I know it hasn't been that long my rating is right up there as it was on the previous order. Toms Restaurant comes thru the food delivered thru GrubHub. I am very happy with the quality of the food the delivery of warm food in the last 2 x times they're hitting 100. I called the restaurant to confirm the order and they were very appreciative of the feedback! Will be trying different things in the future since the menu is so immense. Confident that each one will be a good experience will keep you updated

Half of a Greek Omelette
Krissy H.

Food was very tasty. This place has been here For an easy 3 decades with that in mind it's an older place. Service was quick so we were in and out, they do have some fun drinks like killer coffee, mimosas and much more. we shared a Greek omelette it was plenty of food for the two of us.

I put $5 in the lottery machine after breakfast. Won $45.10. The bartender would not give me my 10¢. Should I call the cops????

The space is cozy and inviting, with an open kitchen right in the center as you walk up the slight incline from the entrance. There's a charming little café area to the right and restaurant seating to the left. The large windows overlooking the city from this beautiful old building create the perfect atmosphere, especially on a cold, rainy day. We were greeted with fresh, hot beignets to start, which was such a treat. My husband enjoyed the Mexican Mocha, and I had the London Fog, both were perfect for warming up on a chilly morning. We couldn't decide what to order, so we split the Huevos Rancheros, and wow... it was AUHMAZING too! It was loaded with zucchini, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, spinach, and caramelized onions. We added linguiça sausage, which took it over the top. Every bite was delicious. To make the experience even better, Georgia brought us a sample of the Portuguese Fried Rice, which was incredibly thoughtful and gave us another reason to come back and try more of the menu. By the end of our meal, our bellies were full, we were warm and cozy from our drinks, and we were already talking about our next visit. So glad we found this gem thanks to Yelp. We'll definitely be back! Thank you, Georgia, for making our first visit such a memorable one!

Epic fail. To the…read moreyoung woman who was running her a** off trying to take care of the few tables that showed up; you weren't set up to succeed and I appreciate you. Poor thing works in the admin office and helps out on the weekends in the restaurant. Picture this: Saturday morning brunch in downtown portland and a breakfast place in a hotel lobby. Empty. We watched two tables leave without ordering. We waited until our food arrived to receive a drip coffee and a hot tea. (And when it did arrive the coffee was a cold cup of machine rinse. I really wanted what many have posted as the Hawaiian Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 spam, 2 Portuguese sausage, white rice. But it wasn't on the menu. Our server accommodated my request (thanks to the pictures from Yelpers). But when it arrived it was 3 eggs, 2 spam and rice. Overall the menu is confused. Is it a Hawaiian theme or not. Scant options is rice. Lots of potatoes. Even the condiments were confused; no soy or siracha on the table but ketchup and Tapatio. The general lack of caring by the management is what sticks with me. The sad bowl of sugar packets, jam packets, creamers and stir sticks all thrown together on the table like a mistake. But when I asked for honey or soy our server had to go to the kitchen and get side dishes of these. C'mon y'all. Pay attention to the details. Your customer sure are.

Mothers is a great place to eat downtown, but I'd recommend making reservations or at least calling ahead. They get busy! Service was very friendly and our server checked in on us an acceptable number of times. Everyone we interacted with was also friendly and warm. The food came out quickly, hot, and prepared correctly. All items were quite tasty. It's not exactly gourmet in terms of you taking a bite and thinking it's the best thing you've ever eaten, but it's solid. I really want to try dinner there. Ambience is busy and bustling. Really it's what you'd expect for a downtown diner. This is the kind of place I would take people to who are coming in from out of town and I'm not sure how adventurous they are (mom & pop from Ohio for example) We will definitely eat here again.

But when our server was with us, they were very nice and patient with my questions and requests. It's a bit loud when the place is on the full side, making it difficult to have a conversation. I wouldn't bring my girlfriend who is hard of hearing, at least with a group. I'd be curious to try more of the menu. I was very much not wowed by the breakfast. The beverages were however very nice, and I recently had the cobbler dessert and it looked amazing and tasted better. We had the coffee (Extracto, love.), I had a really good hef and my mother a very well balanced Bellini that I was very pleasantly surprised with trying. From what I saw, the lunch sounds very good and I'd be more apt to recommend folks give that a shot if they happened to be going there too. I'm not sure if I'd recommend as a must go stop. Vibe wise, the ambience is overall really nice. I think having rolled flatware, even with just upgraded napkins, would better complete the aesthetic you initially see and feel. This would also connect with the price point of the food and quality of the beverages. As a fellow server, on that note I would expect more consistent stronger visual appearance standards with servers. (Sorry guys! But some of you looked great!) Overall, I'd definitely join a friend for coffee and lunch over there in the future. Just wouldn't be my top pick for a celebratory brunch or intimate dinner with a date or friends and fam.

A Cozy Hidden Gem with Warm Hospitality…read more Walking into this little restaurant feels like stepping into a cozy, homey retreat--part hole-in-the-wall, part rustic cabin, the kind of place that should have a fireplace crackling in the corner. (Seriously, if they had one, I'd probably never leave.) We settled in with a bowl of soup, a sandwich, and the absolute kindest woman I think I've ever had prepare my food. She made the whole experience feel personal, like we were guests at her own table. Now, let's talk food! The gumbo had a rich, hearty flavor with a little kick--though, according to my Louisiana in-laws, it would technically be a stew. (But hey, delicious is delicious!) My special order pastrami sandwich was a winner--like a Reuben's cousin, but with its own personality. The shaved meat was perfectly tender, pairing beautifully with my soup. The rest of the family (a mix of kids and adults) went for a variety--salads, a shaved ham sandwich, and tater tot casserole. No complaints from anyone, which, if you've ever dined with kids, is practically a miracle. Everyone left full, happy, and with just enough leftovers for a bonus lunch the next day. Bottom line? Great food, warm atmosphere, and service that made us feel truly welcome. We'll be back!
