While wandering through Leavenworth, we stumbled upon The Danish Bakery and couldn't resist popping in. There was already a line forming, so we knew we had to take a look. The display case was filled with tempting treats like strudels, classic apple turnovers, oversized pretzels, and plenty more. Plus a full coffee menu to pair with it all. I chose the apple strudel, while my cousin went with a plain pretzel. The pretzel was a solid, comforting choice and she enjoyed it. My strudel was good, with that familiar buttery pastry and apple filling, though not the standout of the trip. Came here for a sweet treat after doing a little hike. Staff was very friendly and around 12pm, they still had a decent amount of stuff available. Lots of great savory and sweet pastries. There are a few places you can get a German pretzel in downtown Leavenworth, but the Danish Bakery is the best place to get them! They have salted and unsalted options, a coffee with other hot beverages. The pretzel comes with either a side of mustard or cheese. I opted for the salted pretzel with ground mustard. It was perfectly salted, not too much like when you get one at a movie theatre, this was bakery level for sure. This is a small bakery with some high quality treats. The staff is very friendly and the shop is clean and well lit with overhead lighting and a large storefront window. There are several tables for taking a walking break while tasting the baked goods. We picked up several items to take back to our room, but that cream cheese danish didn't make it out the door. The flavor was an excellent lemon and the pastry was flaky yet held together well. There was an almost crisp crunch to bits of the pastry that was excellent. Considering we just stopped by for a quickie, I was floored by the staff's friendly attitude and the quality of the goods. We ended up staying and picked up more to take out. We haven't been here in Leavenworth for about couple of years, so I was surprised that I forgot this place and glad to have rediscovered it. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it fell far short of the hype. We ordered a Cafe Mocha and a Latte, and both were incredibly bland. The coffee felt diluted and "watered down"--there was no richness or strength to the espresso at all. To make matters worse, the bread didn't even taste fresh. Even at around 8:30 AM, when you'd expect everything to be coming straight from the oven, the bread had a stale quality to it. During a great holiday visit to Leavenworth, we tried out many great foods. The Danish Bakery was on the list of places to go. It was super crowded and there was a long line. I found a seat and my daughters went to get sweets. I got an almond Kringle and it was just OK. Pastries are so much better if they're warmed up. One of my daughters got a raspberry scone and the other one got a lemon scone. Not entirely sure if they were scones because they were wrapped in a circle like a typical danish. I think they said that's what they were. The lemon one was the best. The raspberry ones sadly wasn't all that. And again it was thin, hard and cold. Disappointing Food and Service @ The Danish Bakery in Leavenworth, WA. We tried a soft pretzel here the day before Thanksgiving and were disappointed indeed. Even though the line to order was long, it moved rather quickly. We ordered a salted soft pretzel with hot mustard and cheese sauce. After we paid, I asked the employee for a couple of napkins, since she didn't include any with our order, and were located directly behind her. Instead of handing me some, she told me there were napkins further down the counter, where I had to maneuver around other patrons and then back out across the narrow space. The pretzel itself was not warm, nor were we asked if we wanted it warmed up. It tasted like white bread with salt. Stale white bread. The cheese sauce tasted like literally nothing, but the hot mustard was good. The only good thing here was the .85 cent condiment cup of hot mustard. We had not read the reviews but now see that the soft pretzel is disappointing. It's bland, not really warm (even though they said it was) and the cheese is a side of orange nacho cheese. I bought a pretzel. It was $8.00. It wasn't probably worth that but I hadn't eaten one in a long time so made an exception. I live in Los Angeles and there are basically no bakeries like this anywhere around the city - at least not in the part of town where I live - so it was great to actually go into one again after many years. This pastry shop has so much potential and I wish they had more to offer. We were here during Oktoberfest on a Saturday afternoon looking for a snack after lunch. The pastries were good, but I wish there was more to choose from. I'm not sure if it was because they were sold out and late in the afternoon but the choices I had were limited to what an average donut shop would offer. To the right of the cash register there were cream filled desserts, and pastries that I missed. The cheese danish was meh, but would've been better if there was more cream cheese filling, so I would not order again. The cream bollen is basically a cream puff with chocolate frosting dropped on top and it was okay. They have seating inside which is nice, but we had our dogs so we sat on one of the three benches out front, which was nice. This place is fine for breakfast on the go, but if you're there for vacation, don't be on the go- find a nice place to have a sit down breakfast. Wish I could love this place, but I've never really found Danish pastries to be excellent, except for this one place called Neldam's in Oakland, but that's a story for another time. read more

Stopped in here after our drive from Seattle to Leavenworth. All were hungry - but not hungry enough for a full meal. Seemed like the perfect spot. Ordered a pretzel, a strawberries and cream Bavarian waffle and a coconut macaroon. Pretzel was decent, waffle was crispy, but the strawberries and cream made it super-slippery and difficult to eat (the top kept sliding off from the bottom, with all the goop in between getting all over my fingers). Tasted good, albeit it being a bit messy. The coconut macaroon was excellent. Not all macaroons are created equal, and this one was certainly amongst the best. Service was quick, polite and prices were reasonable for the area. Didn't sit inside, as we had other places to be. Took our stuff for take-out and we were on our way. A decent bakery, but we did notice selections were limited due to the time we arrived (mid-morning). I'm sure if you want to see their full line-up, you need to get here early. read more

The snickerdoodle cookie was the bomb. Great place to stop to get some pastries to take back to your hotel and have for dessert or breakfast the next morning. My husband loves danishes stopping at The danish bakery was a given. It is conveniently located within the center of of the downtown attractions. The selection of goods was vast and well displayed. He said the danishes were good, the cinnamon bread was drier than I'm accustomed too. The service is kind and they are very good about keeping the flow of the crowd. The pastry cases are lovely and inviting. However, my review reflects the complete lack of flavor in their baking. The cannoli shell is bland and soggy, the filing boring although I think it was supposed to taste like chocolate.
