I was looking for a milkshake made from hard-pack ice cream (not the soft serve aerated stuff). When I looked at the photos for Legend on Yelp, I recognized Rob Kennedy, the owner. There's a story. I'm an engineer of food-processing machinery now retired, and Rob approached me 14 years ago with an idea for using liquid nitrogen to make ice cream, a process developed by several universities. I was in the process of retiring, so couldn't help him, but the idea was genius! Now, these many years later, I'm delighted to see his perseverance and success. Nitrogen ice-cream is always rich and flavorful, made from the freshest quality ingredients, often within 24-48 hours before it's sold. And in many cases (like milkshakes) it's created while you wait. Another feature is, that flavor options are endless--there is an extensive menu of ice-cream flavors you will not find anywhere else. My 16oz chocolate shake was thick, rich in cream, and over-the-top in its depth of flavor. I actually couldn't finish it, Sherrie had to. She didn't complain . Be prepared to pay more and get more. THIS ICE CREAM IS TRULY LEGENDARY. This is our first time trying legend ice cream even though we've been visiting Wenatchee regularly for the last four years for some reason, it never came up on our visits located in somewhat of an awkward parking lot. It's tucked away easy to miss. However, don't let that stop you from experiencing some of the best ice cream will ever enjoy. Everything is made in house from the delicious flavors to the mix ins you can taste the quality and every bite, and you can tell how much thought they put into each batch. It truly is an experience that you cannot miss. The customer service was spot on. They were very warm and inviting and helped us with our selections. Bonus, they had a customer restroom, which I was pleasantly surprised about due to the size of the facility. They have freezers where you can pick up the size of ice cream you wanna take home and try as well as a drive-through. This is an all year round experience. 3.5 stars This was an interesting place. There are no samples and they have unique flavors already packaged in different sizes so we weren't sure what to get or how we'd like it. And it wasn't inexpensive. The person behind the counter was nice enough but no real customer service was needed since you get the container out of the freezers and pay for them. I got double strawberry - it was pretty good. Randy got something with spicy pepper and coffee in it. He says the flavors weren't very strong. And while I only had a few bites of mine, he ate his whole container. So he liked it but not enough to get it again. We probably wouldn't go back. After dinner I was looking for something a little sweet. Most of the bakeries were closed (5pm in the evening) so I decided on ice cream. Why not when it's 30 degrees outside with snow on the mountains. Followed my GPS, or I would have gotten lost. Legend is located in East Wenatchee,WA, across the river from my hotel. Not much to the building, on the left you have Legend on the right you have an oil change shop. There is not much parking, maybe 5 spaces (that I saw). They do have a drive through window but I did I not know what I wanted so I decided to go in. If the oil change shop was open there would be no place to park. So I got lucky. Walked into the shop and though I would see the mixers going making ice cream to order, but to my surprise they pre make a lot of the flavors and stick them in a freezer case. I was looking for the raspberry cheesecake flavor I saw someone post pictures of on Yelp but did not find it. What I found turned out to be better, blackberry cheesecake. They make the cheesecake in house and then crumble it up and throw it on the ice cream. Because it was sitting the freezer case for a bit it was rock hard. It was also a bit more than I wanted because I had no freezer in my hotel room. I did not want to waste the ice cream. The ice cream did not let me down. The flavor was well packed in the little cup. Love the fresh, whole blackberries. Large chunks of cheesecake. Creamy white chocolate ice cream base. Mi would love to try more flavors, just hope they make it fresh as I only ate half of my cup and felt guilty I wasted most of it. read more

On our 40-days road-trip from Chicago we stopped for an oil change at Valvoline - a non-planned stop and we got rewarded by Legend Designer right next door. Wow, excellent ice cream, very rich creamy and lots of deep flavor. They make arches throughout the day using liquid nitrogen.l and mostly homemade ingredients. We took with us a half pint of: 1. In the scorching heat with temperatures reaching triple digits we were driving from Wenatchee back home to Seattle. That's when we stopped here for some ice cream. And I am so glad we did! It's a quite place with 3-4 tables, husband making ice cream and wife taking orders. Very cute! They pre-make all the ice cream and store it in the refrigerator. After ordering just walked up to the refrigerator and take your tub. Even their smallest size is a pretty good size and shareable. When we were there they were making a fresh batch of the chocolate ice cream so we got to sample that flavor or else they don't allow sampling. I loved the Gold Rush wasn't too sweet, just the way I like it. Other one we tried was the chocolate decadence - it was good too , it had some bitterness to it. They also had ice cream sandwiches for the kids. The kids loved it! Overall, a perfect spot to visit on a sunny day or even when you are just craving for an ice cream. P.S. Came in on a Saturday. Warm day calls for ice cream. Coming from out of the area, we wanted something local which brought us here. The owner (I think) explained how they made the ice cream and how to purchase. Ice creams are made fresh constantly. You can't order by the scoop or cup from the menu. Just what is available from whatever they made that they put in half pint, pint and quart store in the freezer right next to the counter. There's also a drive thru :) We got the milk chocolate to share with our toddler as well as the caramel macchiato. The ice cream is made from nitro ice and is really really creamy! Was a bit surprised to find this place attached to a Valvoline shop. It even smells like a valvoline shop! We went in on Sunday evening, and there was a nice guy there. We asked how it worked and he said that basically the pints were all they have. From other pictures and reviews it seems like maybe they do a build your own during other hours? We didn't see any evidence of that. We got the peanut butter and brownie mallow flavor. Super dense and rice! Tasted good- brownies themselves were my favorite, and they had that fantastic homemade flavor and texture. Definitely can't eat too much of this stuff though! This is the place to go to for icecream if you're near the Wenatchee/Cashmere/Leavenworth area. They have a ton of different flavors to choose from so there's something for everyone. My husband and I walked in to get icecream and we ended up talking with the owner, she's the nicest lady!! She told us about how she makes the ingredients in her icecream from scratch and I instantly had to try an icecream with cheesecake in it because I'm a sucker for homemade cheesecake. First of all, let's talk about the uniqueness of this place. Every ice cream you get is handmade, and made when ordered. The ice cream itself is very good and unique. I truly enjoy every bite of it. The one thing they are lacking is on their menu, it's kinda boring. It's the same thing since they open, I feel like customer want new ideas, new flavors. The service was fine, just another ice cream shop. One negative side would be the time it takes to make the ice cream, since it's handmade, it takes a while and if there's a huge line, you would be waiting for a long while. Also, it's inconsistent at times, like the size of the scoop, sometimes the ice cream melts super fast and the flavor of it, all depending on who is making it, which is kinda unacceptable. They do NOT make the nitro ice cream when you order unlike other nitro ice cream spots. They make the ice cream daily, then put it in the freezer so you cannot customize your flavors or toppings (mix) or get it in a cone (waffle, sugar or other). It is also HARD. Wow. Just wow. They are truly Legends. When I first walked in the doors, they seemed a little busy, but I wasn't in a big hurry. I waited probably a few minutes for them to take my order, but again, no hurry. I got my usual: standard Vanilla with Chocolate chips. I waited maybe a good twenty minutes for my ice cream. So why do I sound like I gave a five star review, when I'm giving negative feedback? Well, I'm not. The ice cream process takes time. Especially since they are using liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen makes the ice cream, "instant." And makes a hard ice cream. And in my opinion, this is worth that wait. There are only 3-5 working in there, but they are doing their best to make your ice cream experience worth while. But, anyway. It is really delicious. I'm super impressed with the look of the store, and the vibes it gives. I'll admit I was really easy going with my flavor choice, but they will do tons of flavors you didn't think were possible! They want you to have amazing ice cream, custom to your taste. I loved it. Very creamy, and sweet, and awesome! We love Legends, and bring others so they can try it every time friends come to visit! Our favorites are: graham cracker brown sugar, loaded cooking monster (those are both must try to us!) and gold digger! But we haven't had one that wasn't good. Despite the lower reviews, I decided to come and check this place out for my own. It was delicious and they had dairy free options! Awesome when I walked in, I was the only one there. Greeted by 2 sweet girls and they were very helpful. As they were finishing my treat up, about 8-10 people walked in. It took a few minutes for my treat, so I'm guessing they will take about 20 minutes to complete the orders for them. This is not a scoop and go place, they actually have to make the ice cream. Great freshly made ice cream and a fun show to watch! We had the VIP which is strawberry ice cream with trimmings. We subbed Oreo for the cheesecake pieces and it was fabulous! My son loved watching the ice cream barista(for lack of a better term) make our concoction with the liquid nitrogen fancy mixer. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and explained the process because we were newbies. The decor had a good vibe and store was clean. As another reviewer noted service was a little slow BUT not extremely and given the end result it was well worth it. We specifically came to try out the Legend special & were slightly disasspointed.. the employees were not trained to create these quite just yet.. seems a little odd since the establishment is named Legend you'd think that before opening they'd have their signature item available.. Negatives: -limited seating -overflowing small trash can -short on staff -long wait for icecream to be made (my nieces were done with there ice cream before the 3 adults received theirs -overly sweet peach mango sorbet (asked to add some vanilla to make it less sweet, was charged for it... a little surprised by this because normally in my experience if a customer is not satisfied with their product it is usually remade.. just a thought as far as customer service goes maybe taking into consideration that quality of product is important & to perhaps be a little more tactful & tasteful with certain situations.
