Food was good, not great, but definitely solid. Restaurant is very cool, but definitely a little too loud. Service unfortunately wasn't good at all, although seemed like they were maybe understaffed or missing someone because our server was running around non-stop. We went at 7:00 on a Saturday, so probably their busiest time. After checking in, we were seated and we were checked on right away (one or two minutes after sitting), but weren't quite ready to order. Took 20 minutes before anyone came back to take our orders (there was a clock by our seat so these are all actual times for waiting, not even guesses). Ordered a martini and an appetizer to have with it. App came out quick, but legitimately took 30 minutes for the cocktail and it didn't come out until after we were done with the app. Later ordered a bottle of wine, which also took ~20 minutes to get to our table. Ordered mains and a salad to share. Our mains were good, not great. Salad never came and we had to ask it to be taken off the bill. Would have asked about it but after the mains were dropped off no one checked on us for 20 minutes. Food was good, but honestly the whole dinner experience was ruined by waiting on drinks and service. Would have expected more for the prices. We got one cocktail, a bottle of white wine, one appetizer, and two of the less pricey mains (burger and vodka pasta) and our bill with tip was $200+. We won't be back and don't recommend The Davidson, although there are probably worse options in the city. read more

This was the best dining experience I have ever had in my life. I'm a little late writing this review, so I apologize for not remembering my server's name, but they were fantastic. However, I do remember all the other details clearly. I made a reservation at The Davidson to celebrate my girlfriend getting a new job in Columbus, so this would also be our final date night in Cincinnati. I mentioned this in the reservation notes, not expecting anything special, just hoping for a nice table to enjoy our evening and create a lasting memory as we wrapped up our time in Cincinnati. Well, we got more than just a nice table. I won't give specific details because I don't want people writing sob stories under every reservation. But I will say that the service we reecieved was phenomenal. Our server was so nice and personable, giving not only recommendations for each course but also for where we could wrap up the night after some plans fell through. My girlfriend and I have never felt more special or celebrated--truly seen and cared for by a group of strangers. It was incredible. Unbeknownst to the staff, my girlfriend and I both have extensive backgrounds in the food service industry (4-diamond restaurants, steakhouses, private clubs, etc.), and we also consider ourselves foodies. We've tried just about every high-end/fine dining restaurant in the Cincy/NKY area over the past two years (local/regional restaurants only). We've celebrated anniversaries at Bocca, birthdays at Sotto, holidays at a variety of Jeff Ruby's... we walked in with high standards. I don't know how else to say it: we were simply blown away. The food was phenomenal. I tried things I would typically avoid, and they all blew me away. Hamachi? Fire. Tuna Tartare cones? Give me 14 of them. Steak Frites? Scallops? Rigatoni? Order all of them and take it home with you. It was so good that it actually hurt me that Thunderdome doesn't do dessert because I was excited to see how good it was going to be. Alright, I've rambled enough. I write all of this to highlight the stellar service that The Davidson staff gave my girlfriend and me and to thank them for giving us that memory. I finally had a chance to make it to The Davidson for dinner last night. I've been traveling pretty heavy so timing just was not on my side. I was there for a business meeting and we often meet at Thunderdome spots. The food is always good and the service is great. The Davidson, blew away all of my expectations. We started with the eggplant appetizer. Are you serious?! A tableside presentation of a whole roasted eggplant with tahini and sumac and some nice toasted bread!!! My #1 complaint about any dish that has a bread for dipping or eating off of is that there is never enough of the toast (muscles or a tartare) not a problem here. The basket overfloweth. Had I not been there for a work meeting, I would have scraped the eggplant skin with my teeth like it was an artichoke leaf. Next up was the tuna tartare cones. 5 little ice cream cones filled with a delightful mix of tuna, tiny cucumber bits and a creme fraiche. So cooling and delicious. I opted for the double cut porkchop and my companion had the veal milinase. The squash and kale that came under my chop was absolutely crave worthy. it almost outshined the chop. But my eyes spent most of the meal staring at the milinase across the table from me. I will be coming back with the goal of ordering that dish. drinks were on point and exactly what you would expect. The server was delightful. Sadly I do not remember her name, or the team of staff that seemed to be right an ready at any need. Lets not forget about the space and prices, saving these for last as they are not really tied together the way you would think. All food has gotten expensive, so its not free. But, really way more reasonable than I expected from the décor and location. I feel like our meal was a fraction of the cost of what the food justified. Had we gone next door we would have easily double or tripled the bill. Super classy layout with cozy seats. I can't wait for it to warm up and be able to sit out at street side with the windows open. Not a white tablecloth sort of place. It's a corporate vibe - and if the food wasn't so completely off the charts amazing I'd go with 4 stars. So - the food is wonderful - homemade (daily) pasta - had the rigatoni - the best I've had and as a card carrying vintage person, I've eaten a lot of pasta! The salad was perfectly dressed with all kinds of delicious morsels and lettuces. Pros: loved the decor and cocktails. Cons: the music was aversively loud and out of place for what we expected to be a fine dining experience. The food had a number of missteps (the steak frites were drowning in an off putting sauce, and the pasta felt undercooked rather than al dente), as did the service (refilling water obtrusively and unnecessarily from a carafe on the table, while we waited half an hour for a fresh cocktail, no offer of dessert menu). We were disappointed, especially given the price and probably won't bother to come back except for a drink before eating elsewhere. read more

My husband and I stop in the bar often for appetizers and drinks. Last time CJ waited on us. The food as always was wonderful, but CJ was outstanding. He was training someone, but it did not take away from the amazing service he gave to us and the other patrons. As usual, we had the eggplant. Food was marginal, service OK nothing special. Hosted two guests, the Mushroom soup was excellent as was the Itallian chopped salad. The Pasa vignole was thin and not flavorful nor filling. The veal was a thin, deep fried meat and was horrible. No warning that it was deep fied nor that bad. Finally, no dessert. If you go, stick to the appetizers, scallops and, maybe a pasta dish. I need to update my review. I received a call from the general manager Iona tonight after my 4th visit to this establishment . I sat at the bar, and I allowed my family to use my reservation for my sisters birthday this evening. I received a call after I left, stating that my tab under my reservation had not been closed out. I was extremely upset because I knew I had paid out my tab at the bar but I also knew that my family would not just walk out on their tab. To be honest, I was not very nice to Iona at first. I then called my family, and my brother-in-law stated that he had laid the credit card down for the bill to be paid and went to get the car because it was raining. I guess my sister picked up the card thinking the bill had been paid... It was a complete misunderstanding. I called Iona back after my family paid the tab and apologized profusely. I felt awful that I got so upset. Iona handled it with complete grace. I cannot thank her enough. I will always support and give my business to the Thunderdome restaurant group. Just dined tonight. We did not have a reservation and were warmly greeted and offered a high top. Service was excellent. Overall the food was very good. We started with the fondue, which was fun and a unique offering. For mains, we ordered the chicken and the scallops. Overall, it seems some refinement of the dishes may be necessary. The scallops were delicious but the large crouton it sits on does not fit with the dish. Would make the butternut squash puree more thick like a mashed potato (which is what I expected based on the description). For the chicken, it is cooked sous vide. When we raised concerns about how pink the chicken was inside, we were told it always looks like that with sous vide. I'm sure we aren't the first or last guests with that concern. read more

The Davidson is a beautiful restaurant with very good and unique dishes for Cincinnati. I have been twice now but probably will not go again, however. The service is just not good. So much so that it is really affects the quality of the evening. At the bar the drinks took 15 minutes to be made and there was little to no friendly interaction with the bartenders. When I asked for my drink to be made without something as she was preparing it I was met with dismay and annoyance. Even after many apologies on my part- which I honestly shouldn't even have said. At the table the waitress kept trying taking away food that we were not finished with over and over again. She also forgot about two things we ordered and did not seem concerned about it. We had to ask for her as she did not return to check in after our food was delivered by someone else. Overall the vibe and food make it somewhere that could be great, but I just can't see how with this uncommitted and annoyed service staff. read more
