I do not live locally and was only in town for a short period of time handling the estate, so timing and communication were important. The home contains quality furnishings, including a Taylor King sectional, a custom Vanguard dresser, a large Restoration Hardware rug, and other high-end items. After nearly three weeks of back-and-forth communication, they finally were going to come out on March 13 and picked up only two items--a sideboard and a rug. To my surprise, after our conversation with the driver on his way, they then declined the rug. I decided to tell him not to even come, and I would not be doing business with them and that their business structure was extremely unprofessional and excruciatingly painful to deal with. During prior communication, they asked what price I hoped to get for the rug. I suggested $800 for a $3000 rug as a starting point, fully acknowledging that I did not expect to recover what I originally paid. I specifically asked for their professional input since this is their business and they know the resale market. Instead of providing guidance, I was simply told my price "wasn't their happy price." That was the extent of the explanation. The entire process was unnecessarily frustrating. Communication is routed through a receptionist who acts as a gatekeeper, making it impossible to speak directly with the person actually making the consignment decisions. Everything is filtered through short emails or secondhand messages, which creates confusion and delays. For a business that relies on consignors bringing them quality merchandise, the lack of transparency, poor communication, and inefficient process is surprising. Clearing out an estate is already difficult, and this experience only made it more frustrating. I would not recommend working with this company. Their communication structure and overall business approach are not consumer-friendly.

Downtown Furniture is my new favorite furniture store-and it should be yours too. Joshua was incredibly helpful when my wife and I wandered in looking for some very specific items. He jumped into action (literally-he's got so much energy!) and showed us a few pieces and clearly explained the pros and cons of each. We decided on a couch, a bed set with mattress and night stands-all to be delivered the next working day, which happened to be Labor Day. On the date of delivery, we got a phone call at the anticipated time and the movers arrived to deliver our purchases. Not only did the deliver, but they assembled the bed too-a chore I was not looking forward to, and was much appreciative of them doing. They were professional and took care to not damage the doorway with the heavy items. Our new furniture looks terrific and I'm so glad that I didn't settle elsewhere and continued my search into Downtown. I'll be back!

The sales rep was great to work with, (although I am told she no longer works there) and we ended up spending almost $8,000. Despite this, we still had to pay an almost $350 delivery fee. We had multiple deliveries due to items being back ordered. This is where my rating goes from 5 stars, as I think their furniture is good quality, to 3 stars, as the delivery people they contract out to are awful. Who delivers furniture at 6:15am? When I expressed my concern to Liz, her reply was "yeah, they like to get started early." Since we have already been waiting two months for this piece, we had no choice but to agree to an early delivery. Three different deliveries and not one was inside the promised time frame. The language barrier was also a bit challenging. We have more furniture to buy, but due to the delivery companies they use, and expensive costs associated, we probably will not buy from this location again. I asked the Liz to contact me about my concerns. I feel a credit of our delivery fee is the least they can do, but never heard back. Maybe corporate gives them a delivery budget, so they are forced to utilize cheap delivery services, but when someone spends this amount of money AND is being charged for delivery, they need to do better.
